Summer is upon Five Island Cove, and that means beach days with friends and family, an explosion of tourism, and summer reading programs!
Tessa Simmons has just taken a job as the Assistant Director at the library in the cove, and she’s been charged with all of the adult programming. Her ideas are big, and she brings in her new friends for focus groups to truly expand the reach of literature in the cove.
Robin and AJ have ideas and plenty of opinions, as do all of the other women. They don’t always line up, and some voices are louder than others. But as Eloise has taken a step back to spend more time with her family, she becomes instrumental in helping Tessa establish smaller library branches on all five islands in the cove.
Kelli is busy with her yoga studio and her job as a new mother, but she also brings the idea of more books and better literature to both Pearl and Bell Island. Jean suggests a “lighthouse little library,” and Tessa takes in all the ideas, trying to find the right things that will reach everyone from 18 to 80.
Robin’s daughter and Alice then come up with a brilliant idea to unite generations throughout the a bicycle book club. Maddy, Julia, and Clara quickly jump on the idea, and it takes shape like nothing else has. Then Tessa decides to look into the past to help shape the future, what she finds in the Five Island Cove library archives could bring them closer together…or splinter them forever. Escape to the beach this summer with your new best friends! Join the women in Five Island Cove as they navigate friendships old and new, romantic relationships past and present, and bring new ideas that could last generations to the quaint island town you’ll want to visit over and over again!
I enjoyed the book and all the updates on all the characters.... It's been a minute since the last book came out, so getting caught up with everyone felt great. But there didn't seem to really be a "reason" for this book.... no plot, i suppose. Or not one of significance I guess. Lots of side stories, but didn't feel like there was one main story like the other books in the series have. Im super excited for her new 3 book series spinoff though about Mandie!
I have read all these books in the series and know the characters so well. Once again a really nice story of friendship with this group of women and what each one goes through and how they are there for each other. Nice read.
Not one single star. When I chose this from the library e-books, I did not realize that this was a sequel to many before. Obviously, one needs to read previous episodes in this series to have any idea who all these characters are. Not my piece of cake. I got to page 36 (with difficulty) and I already have a list of 13 women (I guess AJ is the same as AvaJane and El is Eloise), 7 men (kind of male names), and 9 children (seemingly of those men/women) ranging from almost adults to a toddler and a baby. I have no patience to try to sort these out in the next 100 pages … not sure if I even could… or read the previous books. Why in the world do people write these sequels? Why not write a “real” book that tells their story from day one till the end? Not one episode after each other like in the soap operas?
⭐️⭐️⭐️ All characters seem interchangeable and one dimensional. There was nothing special about any of them. In fact it was hard to make out their ages. It was only by gauging the ages of the children that you could kind of get a picture. It seemed they were consumed about their place in different friendships groups. There were just mundane basic problems.
The bicycle book club was a good idea. The intern/volunteer teenager (Mandie) did all the work. She came up with the idea but Tessa helped flushed out the rest of the details. The pacing was slow going. The coastal area was a nice setting. The writing and plot were just mediocre. There was no serious intrigue unless you count Mandie moving in with her boyfriend Charlie and his twin sister, who happened to be her best friend.
I really thought that there was going to be intrigue with the finding of the love letters and the recipe cards. But that didn’t go anywhere. The whole novel ended with one friend telling all the others why they were good friends. I really wanted to like this book, number ten in the series, but I have no desire to go back to read the other nine previous books.
“Her mom was a master worrier. Held a black belt in it. Gold medals. Wore a crown.”
“Sometimes regular life can just feel heavy. It’s the monotony of it.”
“The dragonfly is a symbol of adaptability, as it can fly in six different directions.”
…jade,” Kristen said. “It’s a stability stone, and it’s meant to remind you that you’re our grounding presence. It has protective properties…”
I found it difficult to even continue read this book series due to the errors at the beginning of this book. The biggest glaring error was stating Claire and Reuben got moved when they are brother and sister, Ruben runs the lighthouse. It should have been Claire and Scot. It seems as though the author was getting bored with the storyline of the series. The plot line should have drawn a better conclusion to the blood relationship between Aaron and Robin and Robin's grandmother's current status (deceased or other definite location). I also want to know what happened to Eloise's brother (from the first book) after he stole money from her that her father intended her to have due to how it was hidden. It was not clear if her brother was arrested for his actions, he should have had consequences. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
I love the ladies of Five Island Cove. Jessie Newton has created such a wonderful community of women who live life together, supporting one another with encouragement, unconditional love and a well-timed kick in the backside when needed. We should all have such a sisterhood to help us through life’s challenges. Get this book - no, get this series - you won’t be disappointed! I’m an ARC reader, and I am honored to leave my voluntary review for this amazing book.
"The Bicycle Book Club" is book 10 out of 12 in the 'Five Island Cove' series by Jessie Newton. It is a good book with a solid 4.5 stars out of 5. As the 'Seafaring girls' have grown, we are now adding their families into the storylines. I enjoyed reading this series. You do need to start with book 1 and work your way through the series, as characters from the previous books show up and make the story easier to understand.
What an amazing group of characters! At first I had a difficult time as there are so many of them. Once I started reading the book I realized how intricately their personalities interacted. They each bring a special bond. The Bicycle Book Club was an absolute blast. As diverse as they were they had been there for each other even though they were all in different stages of life.
I really wanted to like this book as a cyclist and a reader…there wasn’t enough cycling and there were far too many people with tenuous relationships for me to engage with any of them. It was cute, a little trite…full of the inner dynamics of small town relationships, but not what I wanted.
I prefer to read historical fiction and this foray into contemporary fiction just cements my literary choices.
This book is so good! It's a wonderful heartwarming story about a group of women who stick together through thick and thin. This book is a great addition to the Five Island Cove series. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. I received a complimentary copy and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I just love the depth of the books in this series! The characters are so well fleshed out and the community seems like one I should be able to visit and meet all the people we're introduced to. The storyline of this particular book is so original, and I enjoyed how it connected different communities together. Another wonderful addition to an incredible series!
I love this series so much! All the characters feel like old friends with new ones coming along also. This book adds a Book Club which is a lot of fun. A must read! You won't be disappointed!
I’m loving this series - feel like I know the women and would love them as my friends - I can picture them all and the places they live It’s just a feel good series that will make you smile , laugh cry and all feelings in between ❤️
The 10th book in the Five Island Cove series. I enjoyed catching up with some old friends. The only problem I have with these books are the numerous characters. More are added every book, and it becomes difficult to keep track of who some of the newer women are.
This has been a really great series following a wonderful group of high school friends who reconnect as adults due to death.. it shares what true friendships are like. Great, interesting characters who pull you in. Excited to see what JN brings to her future writings.
I have so enjoyed the Five Island Cove books and this one was especially sweet. I enjoyed how the women all supported one another and remained true to who they are.
I really enjoyed this book. The friendship that the women in the book developed is so strong and resilient. They will do anything to help and support each other. They’ll do whatever it takes to keep their friendship strong even as their group of friends increases in numbers.
Great book - always meeting new friends, but still the original 5 are together! They work like real friendships - sometimes you are very close and other times you are not as agreeable!
This delightfully captivating story portrays real friendship among a group of women who actively participate in each other's lives with genuine curiosity and assistance!
I don't know that I an finish this book. I find the writing style confusing, circular, and full of errors. There are way too many characters and if I don't read several chapters all at one sitting I lose track of who is who. I want to like it. I want to finish it. But I also have so many more books on my TBR pile. Maybe I'll try again after reading the first books in the series?!?
