"Bloody" Joe Mannion is back, battling bullets and burying secrets, in Peter Brandvold's latest action-packed western series installment.
As Bloody Joe Mannion transports the notorious prisoner Buzzard Lee through the rugged mountains of the New Mexico Territory, a chance encounter with a young woman shrouded in mystery thrusts him into a whirlwind of danger and intrigue. The woman has no recollection of her past, only vague memories of a harrowing escape through wind and rain.
When Mannion delivers Buzzard Lee to the ageing, alcoholic marshal of Battle Mountain—who claims he doesn't recognize the girl, either—he vows to embark on a quest to unravel the mystery behind the woman's origins, certain she might unknowingly hold all the answers they're searching for.
But as the noose tightens around Mannion's bloody neck and bullets draw nearer, he stumbles upon a devastating secret that could spell doom not only for himself, but also for the woman and those she cares for.
Battle Mountain is a heart-pounding saga of western intrigue, danger, and discovery that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last moment.
Peter Brandvold has written well over one hundred action westerns under his own name and his pseudonym, Frank Leslie. Born and raised in North Dakota, he has lived all over the West. He currently lives in western Minnesota with his dog. Follow him at Amazon and here peterbrandvold.blogspot.comand here: facebook.com/peter.brandvold.
This is your typical Brandvold great story telling, filled with action, intrigue and some laughter. Where this book deviated from all the "Bloody Joe" series in the past, is that this is the first book in which Bloody Joe wasn't in Del Norte, and subsequently there was no interaction with any of the regulars (wife Jane/son/daughter/Doc/Deputies etc etc). It was for this reason, and that it was a shorter novel, that I gave it 4 stars and not 5. After all, the last we knew his wife Jane was nearly on her death bed at the end of the book, and thus left one hanging to find out more in the next book.
Looking forward to Book 9 in the Bloody Joe series which should be delivered on Feb. 27th. In the meantime I just started "The Revenger" however didn't realize it was a collection of books nearly 1200 pages. Will read a couple of the books and go from there as to whether I continue on or switch over to book 9 of Bloody Joe.
When Joe captures ruthless gang leader Buzzard Lee, the closest place to take him is the worn down, criminal infested rat trap of Battle Mountain. On the way he encounters a young Mexican girl who is covered in mud and has lost her memory. She is in his care and he is bound to get to the bottom of it. No one in town will admit to knowing her. The trail leads to a rich mine owner, a large rancher who seems to only hire gunmen and his son, who has had enough. Another exciting Bloody Joe Mannion installment.
When Bloody Joe finds a young mud covered Mexican girl in her night gown in a wash miles from town it starts the action going. Joe gets involved with rich powerful people in the town and that causes many problems and action. As usual Joe has to fight his way through and settles the score. This is a good read and I enjoyed it very much.
I reckon this has been one of the best western series that I’ve read. The main character “bloody Joe” wasn’t always the smartest whip but certainly a survivor that kept the each book more than entertaining and nothing really redundant. Nice work.
Great story. Had good meaning and a right good outcome. I just wish the father would have earned more of a demise. It was a great story and recommend it to all. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
