“I knew I was in mortal danger. But I was finally able to breathe again—with him by my side. Then dangerous eyes bore into mine, and darkness overtook me . . .”
The last thing Abigail Everett thought would happen over spring break was having her world shift into an entirely new perspective. Unfortunately for her, that’s exactly what happened.
Between struggling to master her newly-formed abilities, coming face-to-face with dark, deceiving mind tricks by those that seek her leadership, and learning of a mythical world that she never deemed possible, Abigail risks everything with the future of mankind and the safety of its’ people in her hands.
Andy is an urban fantasy/fictional writer that loves a healthy dose of character development. She's a true Potter-head at heart with a deep love of nature, cooking, and comfy clothes. Andy is constantly plotting and pondering her works to come, and has many exciting things in store.
During spring break Abigail Everett's life is forever changed. She must learn to master her new found abilities. She comes face to face with dark beings and must learn to fight them because the future of all mankind lies with her.
The Review
This is a wonderful read! The writer took a typical story and turned it in to something more. There are so many unforeseen twists and turns. This book keeps you guessing till the last word. This unique story also had a great ending, he wrapped everything up nicely but still left you with enough curiosity to want to read book two. The characters are beautifully written and he writes them as if they could be real people in an ordinary life. This story is great for young adults and takes them on a sense of adeventure filled with lots of magical elements. Thank you for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thrilling, romantic, and filled with magic and adventure, GIFTED was such a fun and fast-paced read. The story starts off on a bit of a mysterious and (intentionally) confusing note as Abigail’s world is changed forever: not only is she part of a special race of beings called Valens, but they (and consequently her) are gifted with extraordinary powers. Tasked with fighting dark and sinister forces, it’s a race against time for Abby to learn how to use her powers because the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of the Valens. No big deal, right? Right.
GIFTED is a rather short book, clocking in at just a little over 200 pages, but what it lacks in length it completely makes up for with characters and plot. I’m not normally a fan of instant attraction between characters, but I actually (gasp!) liked the relationship in this one. The characters were all dimensional and interesting, and I really liked Abby. She was definitely a character you could root for and I loved that she had such incredible balance — she may have gotten stronger over the course of the book, but she still maintained her vulnerability and that made her much more relatable.
Bottom line — GIFTED was a short and sweet read with plenty of action, mystery, and magic. Perfect for readers who like their fantasy on the clean side. 3.5 stars.

This is a very mixed review, I'm afraid. I loved the story, and there's clearly a lot of work gone into the backstory and into making it all make sense. However, the language choices, in my opinion, weren't always great.
At times, I thought this read like the author had written it with a thesaurus open at the same time. It threw me out of the story every so often. For instance:
I took the notebook from his grasp and placed it on my lap, searching his features for answers he wasn't giving me.
It just feels more complicated than it needs to be. However, scene and place descriptions are brilliant, really evoking the feeling of a place. The descriptions of Abby's emerging powers were also really well done. (It may have been slightly on the nose to have Nicholas and his friend, Azrael, as one side of the triangle, though.) The backstory, parts of which were pretty complicated, were well thought out, but it took a while to get them because everyone was playing the "don't tell her anything including all the things she really needs to know, then yell at her when she makes decisions based on what she knows" game. Eventually they started to be more open, though.
All in all, mixed but definitely more positive than negative. I'm interested to know what happens next and I'll be watching out for more books in the series.
This is a fast paced young adult paranormal romance that will suck you in! The author does a great job of creating tension throughout the entire novel that keeps the reader wanting more and to see the secrets revealed!
Can't wait to see what happens next in the series!
This is a MUST READ if you enjoy Young Adult, paranormal, coming of age, and romance because this has it all! The story is unique, the characters are well imagined, and I like the descriptions given to Abby's impressions of herself and experiences. Andy Lewter is a new author and I think her books will only get better. I definitely want to follow up with the next book in this series!

I lost sleep to finish this book! My eyes were burning by the time I read The End. I love the characters that Lewter has created. They were real and relatable, well except for the gifted part! Blending reality with fantasy, the gifted race of Valens is one I cannot stop thinking about. I need more of Nicholas, Miles and Abby! A bonus for this reader is that the supporting characters were just as interesting as the main characters, especially Navi and Damien. When all is said and done I am itching to get my hands on the next book! Seriously this girl needs the rest of the story! A YA novel you won't soon forget, Gifted will grab your attention and hold it until the very last word! I received a copy of this book for free, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This books was good, I was a bit surprised by all the raving reviews and none of them stated that it would include insta love. So that was a disappointment. I may read the second one but I'm am not really counting the day.
