Seven minutes in . . . holy heck, what have I done?!
What happens when I return early from a work trip to find my son throwing yet another party?
Annoyance. Exasperation. Temptation . . .
I'm tired, yearning for my bed, but I hadn't counted on the games my son and his friends play—or the one person who'd be waiting in my closet after everyone else is gone.
The guy who's been haunting my fantasies lately.
He's too beautiful. Too young. Too off-limits, being one of my son's best friends. And . . . on his knees for me. Oh god.

I really liked all the glimpses we got of Kevin & Garrett in previous books so I was excited to read this, but I don't think best friend's dad is something I really enjoy or will be reading in the future.
3.5 rounded up because it's not the book's fault this trope just isn't for me and I think people who like best friend's dads books will enjoy this
- age gap - best friend’s dad - opposites attract - size difference
After three weeks on the road, truck driver Garrett is ready to come home and relax. Instead he finds his house full of people, thanks to his son Darren throwing yet another party while he’s away.
Garrett soon finds himself shoved into a closet, unaware of the party games his son and his friends play, and soon finds himself in a lip lock with none other than his son’s best friend Kevin. The very guy who Garrett has been secretly fantasizing about for months.
Wanting to forget another failed date, Kevin shows up to Darren’s party aiming to get drunk. He suggests a game of Seven Minutes in Heaven and eagerly awaits his turn, only his partner never shows up. Instead Garrett, the man he’s been harboring a crush since childhood, gets shoved in with him and Kevin decides to shoot his shot.
Things get steamy and Garrett can’t get what happened in the closet out of his mind. It’s so wrong to want Kevin knowing he’s Darren’s best friend, but there’s just something he can’t resist. He and Kevin start hooking up on the regular, but things don’t stay simple for long. Garrett wants more…
To be honest, so did I. I’ve watched Kevin moon over Garrett through the last several books, but their story was a bit underwhelming. Sure the chemistry between them was off the charts, but their story just didn’t hook me in like I’d hoped it would.
This poor guy had a first row ticket to one of his best friend's hardcore pining for his dad for years to eventually them getting together.
He wasn't an asshole about it, he was actually pretty amazing and Darren was and still is my favourite character in the series.
This is Kevin's story and let me tell you, it was a really good, very much emotional story. Best in the series. Well earned 4⭐.
This book came quite close to that quirkiness Granville had in Lyle's book and it also had depth, it had one undertone, one big and loud message and that was : acceptance.
🟢 Age gap of 20 years 🟣 Younger MC is an unapologetic Femboy and a Drag Queen 🟡 Older MC's bi-awakening 🔵 Long-term pining 🌶️ Good spice, both vers ❗ Slight homophobia
This story was beautiful.
I'm usually not enthusiastic about age-gap books, but here it was Kevin, the younger MC, who had a really intense, 10-year long crush on Garrett, who knew Kevin liked him, but didn't react or take advantage of it. 10 years after first falling for the guy and Kevin still very much wants him.
Another thing I liked was there was no daddy/boy dynamic! That's so, so refreshing, since most of age gap books I come across have that "daddy" lurking in there somewhere, but this one wasn't it!
This was my Kevin. According to the book, he has sandy blonde hair and blue eyes.
Kevin is Darren's best friend, he's 25, a femboy and a baby Drag Queen. He's had a crush on Garrett, Darren's dad, since he was in puberty, so we're talking about 10 years of pining, of crushing on someone and everyone knowing about it, hand in hand with being effeminate and getting lousy sexual and love experiences because of it.
Kevin and Garrett finally come together when Kevin plays a game and is waiting in a closet for someone else to come kiss him, but that someone is Garrett this time.
They're both shocked and end up hooking up multiple times, with Garrett worrying about being 20 years older than Kevin and Kevin being afraid of someone finding out about them, since that would really complicate things for Garrett, mostly.
This was my Garrett. He's a big man, a truck driver, a hairy delish.
I loved the fact that Garrett is a blue collar worker, he's a simple, nice, honest guy, who's been married for 20 years and is divorced, has kids, he's also a grandpa at 45. He's a really great person and Kevin is very much attracted to that, to Garrett's personality and character. He feels accepted and very understood by Garrett.
They have a beautiful budding relationship, where they both honestly want to be with each other and what impressed me the most was, again, Kevin feeling out of place for most of his life and Garrett just completely accepting him.
The spice was really good, with some of it being off-page, which I definitely didn't appreciate, but the rest was very good. Not only the spice, but the intimacy, the taking care of each other, the emotional support and both just finding that freedom together to be whatever they want to be.
This wasn't like the many age-gap books I've read so far, it's really good, you don't get that older/younger dynamic at all, they're both open, talkative, the have fun together and what surprised me the most was Kevin going on Garrett's work trips with him, they basically lived in that truck for 3 weeks, travelled, slept together, just had an amazing time.
I absolutely loved Kevin's story.❤️
I'm going to read the last novella in the series and I'm absolutely excited for Hunter's book that's in the spin-off series, it's called Don't date a DILF and I can't wait to read it. I'm not done with Granville yet.
I enjoyed this so much. In this we get the romance between Kevin, 25, one of Darren's best friends, and Garrett, 45, Darren's father.
This also starts where the last one left off, and when Garrett opens the door of the closet as Linc suggested, Kevin is in there, which results in Kevin kissing Garrett, and pandora's box is opened, especially after the kissing then escalates to a blow job.
They try to stay away from each other after that, because the complications seem too great. Kevin being 20 years younger, and oh how the town's tongues would wag over that, and oh yeah, Kevin being Darren's best friend, and also Garrett is on the road 3 weeks out of a 4 week month, and that hd put such a strain on Garrett's marriage to his ex-wife, he's scared it'll do the same to him and Kevin.
And Kevin is also worried about the backlash Garrett would face being with someone "like" him, as in a femboy, who wears feminine clothes a lot of the time, and wears make-up on the regular, and now also does drag.
So all these things that are seemingly agains them, has them trying to stay away. But now that they've been together, they can't stay away, and soon they give into the passion they feel for each other.
Kevin is the biggest hold-out between the two. He is the one to suggest they keep it "casual and sexy" and Garrett agrees only because he's not ready to tell those closest to him yet, and he's still worried about his trucker work schedule interfering if they had a real committed relationship.
But of course, as much as Kevin tries to keep it casual, he's in love with Garrett, and Garrett's on his way soon enough. Even when Garrett is away for work, they talk, text, video call on the phone all the time, and with the week Garrett is home and they get to be together physically, it just makes them fall for each other all the more.
They still don't tell anyone, as Garrett's work schedule makes it so that a few months go by before they're ready to tell anyone.
But it gets to the point where Garrett is ready for others to know, and Kevin just needs to let go of his fears as well and trust that Garrett won't run from the relationship, even if people are judging their relationship. Even if Darren has a problem with it when he finds out.
Which, he does. I liked that it wasn't just all easy peasy for these two when people found out. It was still perhaps a little too easy - while Darren isn't sold 100%, he gets over his anger within the day they find out, and while people do stare and gossip a little bit after it happens, Darren comes out in support of them and then it dies down pretty quickly after that.
So, more than the previous 2 books, for sure, but still not enough. These are potentially "scandalous" relationships, and this author makes it too easy for the MC's at every turn. There's barely any drama or problems to work through, or if there are, it's settled way too quickly and easily.
That's my reason for giving this .75 stars off, because even in this, where it should have been the most scandalous relationship, there's barely any drama they have to face. And Darren gets reprimanded for the wya he reacts, but why wouldn't he react that way? It's his best friend and his dad, together.
Yeah, he's still uncomfortable with it at times, but he's largely okay with it after like one conversation.
Let at least Darren, who has a right to be upset about it, be upset about it. Garrett didn't even feel any angst over his own son being upset. Kevin felt more angst about it than Garrett did.
And Garrett's a great character and I love his character, but what was with his lack of worry over his son being upset about it?
It just didn't ring true to me. It made things too easy.
Now, I loved this story a lot, overall. I loved the relationship between Kevin and Garrett. But I guess after 3 books of it being too easy after the relationships are "revealed", I reached the end of my rope with this one, which should have bene pretty scandalous.
And sure, I'd eventually want everything to be be okay and get that wonderful hEA, which we do get, but I wanted more drama first. I wanted a little bit more realistic reactions. I wanted Garrett to be a little bit more concerned with his children, especially Darren, finding out.
I loved Garrett being so secure and in love with Kevin, and showing that he wasn't afraid to love Kevin out in the open, but I think the author went a tad too far in trying to show Garrett was super okay with it all in order to make Kevin feel loved, that on the other end of the spectrum, it felt like he didn't give much of a shit about what his kids thought.
Which, this man loves his kids. He spent so much time trying to repair his relationship with Darren. I feel like he would care more about their reaction.
I think, just at the end, a better balance could have been shown of Garrett showing his love for Kevin, but also showing he cares about Emily and Darren's feelings about it all as well.
So, that frustrated me, and I hate to give this less stars, but it bothered me enough that I couldn't let it go.
Still a strong showing coming from this last book in this series, and still a wonderful series overall, and I will definitely read more from this author. I just want a little more drama and hurdles to overcome in future books, at least if they're about what should be scandalous relationships.
Definitely recommend, for sure though. Two thumbs up from me! And while this is the end of this particular series, I'm happy that we'll come back to Granville in another series. I do want to see Kevin's brother, Hunter, who is now a single dad, fall in love with a guy ;).
Sadly this book it’s my least favorite on this series I did not connect with either of the MCs or with the small town, I did not like the development of the relationship either and call me toxic but their relationship was too perfect and correct I need some tocxiness.
I’ve said it before and I still believe it: DJ Jamison’s writing just keeps getting better and better. Now, mind you, IMHO there was nothing at all wrong with her earlier works but her latest ones are longer with a bit more depth. I’ve been reading her books for over 6 years now and I don’t plant to stop any time soon.
Kevin is a femme guy who doesn’t like to conform to gender norms. He enjoys wearing skirts and dresses, make-up and nail polish but he identifies as male. The small town where he lives hasn’t made life easy for him. He faced a lot of ridicule growing up and it hasn’t all gone away now that’s he’s grown up. He’s had a crush on his best friend’s dad, Garrett, for a long time but he never dared to dream that something could actually come of it someday.
Garrett is a long-haul trucker who’s gone 3 weeks each month. He believes that this absence contributed to his divorce and he’s not sure he’d be good boyfriend material. He’s been inexplicably drawn to his son’s friend, Kevin, for a while now and he’s having trouble understanding why. When he gets shoved into a closet with Kevin, and they kiss, his mind is kind of blown. It’s time for him to admit that he’s bisexual.
This book is so good. It doesn’t gloss over hard topics – like Kevin’s love of wearing skirts and dresses – and it treats the subject matter with respect and kindness. Kevin and Garrett agree to keep their growing relationship a secret – mostly at Kevin’s insistence – because they don’t want to be the subject of gossip in town and because Kevin is afraid of Darren’s reaction to him dating his father.
Garrett is a great guy. He always treats Kevin with respect and loves everything about him and his alter ego, drag queen Sassy Solo. When Kevin takes on the task of arranging Granville’s first Pride celebration, he’s not sure he can pull it off. He has a lot of support and the event is a success (in spite of one of the headliner drag queens being injured and unable to fulfill her role. Sassy steps in even though Kevin is really uncomfortable about performing in front of his hometown neighbors and friends. His performance is a hit.
When Garrett and Kevin’s relationship gets outed things go better than they expect with Darren giving them a bit of a rough time at first but he eventually comes around. I enjoyed the epilogue set one year in the future. It was nice to find out how their relationship was doing and how they’d fashioned a routine that works for them.
A copy of this book was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

I was very much looking forward to this book and was not disappointed! It's such a sweet bi-awakening, age gap romance. I loved both Kevin and Garrett and thought they were absolutely perfect for each other. Great chemistry, lots of steam, and just a wonderful relationship full of never ending support and a lot of love. These two each had to grow in their own ways, and I thought Jamison showed that beautifully and it just worked. Very sad to see this series end, but looking forward to what Jamison comes out with next!
I have been waiting for Kevin and Garrett to get their story and get their story they did! After a novella and 2 other full-length books with unrequited longing on Kevin’s side and confused, more than friend-of-my-son feelings on Garrett’s, these two finally come together (ahem) in their own game. I’ll be honest and say that I have no idea how to review this book. I want to recap it. I want to rave about it. I want to recommend it until I’m blue in the face. I usually try to write reviews in a way that if another reader hasn’t read what’s come before, I can KISS so that they’re able to pick up at the book I’ve reviewed instead of having to go back and read the previous books in the series. I’ll do my best to do that here.
Kevin has been lusting after his Gare Bear for a few years now. He knows that Garrett is straight and therefore thinks that his flirting is harmless because, as much as he’d love to play games with Garrett, he knows that Garrett doesn’t see him as anything but one of his son’s kid friends – even though he’s 25. Kevin works a few jobs and is also a Baby Drag Queen – a Drag Queen-in-Training, if you will. Sassy Solo is snarky, shmexy, svelte and says & does things that Kevin doesn’t always feel comfortable putting out there. He’s watched all his friends, Garrett’s son Darren included, find love and he wants to find his, too. However, the one man he wants is unattainable, or so he thought. Garrett has 2 kids, 3 grandkids and an ex-wife. He’s a long-haul trucker, usually gone for 3 weeks at a time, home for a few days and then back out on the road. He’s recently realized that, while he spent 20 years with the woman he married right out of high school, he’s not as straight as he thought he was. He simply got married so young that he never had a chance to discover that side of himself. He’s found himself looking at his son’s friend differently the last couple of years, but he knows Darren and knows that he wouldn’t be happy if his dad and one of his best friends started hooking up.
But love always finds a way, whether it’s out of the closet… or in it…
As much as these two realize that their relationship likely wouldn’t be accepted or understood, their chemistry is explosive, the draw to one another too strong to ignore. They start out as FWB, strictly on the down low, but as is usual – love waits for no man, Queen or GILF.
The Games We Play series went out on the best note and, as sad as I am to see them go, I loved every page of Kevin’s longing, loving and sassing. I love Garrett’s desire to be everything Kevin could ever need, despite their age gap, roadblocks and the long separations with his job.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and, as always, my review is unpaid and honest. 7 Minutes in Kevin D.J. Jamison
4.5 stars. Kevin knows there’s no chance for a future with Garrett, his best friend’s father, so he offers a fling, a secret one. Kevin swooned over Garrett for years already and now there’s action. Garrett is happy with everything he can get from Kevin, it’s not fair to ask for more, and oh god does he want more.
Kevin, also known as drag baby queen Sassy Solo, is organizing Granville’s first Pride weekend. It’s super stressful because it’s really important. Garrett is one of the volunteers. He supports Kevin where he can.
Garrett is serious about his feelings, can’t speak them out loud, Kevin is twenty years younger than his forty-five, he may find someone of his age. Only his feelings are growing and getting more sustainable. Little does he know, Kevin feels so much the same for him.
What a sweet, kind, story this is, Garrett and Kevin are hot between the sheets, and sweet on the couch. Sassy playful Kevin and steady warm supportive Garrett had great chemistry, I loved them. For me, the amount of time spent on the side story was too long, I’m more a relationship in a bubble person. Still, those stories were captivating and made sense.
The characters had body, the story volume, the atmosphere friendly and mindful, the sexy parts delicious, with other words… a wonderful read!
• Games We Play Book 3 • Age-gap (20 years) 😏 • Younger MC is an androgynous beauty Femboy, who doesn't like to conform to gender norms and he's a fearless Drag Queen. • Older MC's bi-awakening. • Old crush, good and hot spice 🥵, sweet. • Size difference (I love it) 🥰
🤗 I was so excited to read Kevin's book, yeah... I wanted to know Kevin's HEA. I have a sweet spot in my heart for him. He's sweet and resilient. The big bad word, Homophobia, is so present in Kevin's life... I felt the need to comfort him, hug him, and tell him he's beautiful and perfect just the way he is.
Gareth is really a great person. The honesty and budding relationship are so precious and beautiful for both of them. They needed the validation that they're perfect just the way they are. They complete each other. 🥰
I felt so emotional with this book. I loved reading it and listening to the audiobook (John Solo).
Next, I'm going to read Don't Date DILF, Hunter's book, Kevin's brother, which is in a spin-off series. I love Granville 😍.
I read the prequel and then skipped to this one because I'm made of chaos.
Garrett comes home to find his son throwing a party. His son's partner casually directs him to the coat closet to clear out partygoers and ends up hooking up with his 25 year old son's best friend. As one does. I thought these two were sweet together and I liked that they've been building a friendship for years so this whole thing wasn't as unexpected as it could have been. Garrett was who Kevin called when things hit the fan in the past so they already had a solid foundation of trust and affection before the relationship even started.
I am DYING at the thought that Kevin could be Darren's stepdad and grandpa to his future children.
This is the third and final book in this series but it’s such a great ending.
I loved Kevin and how free he was with who he wanted to be. He was dedicated to his family but also fiercely independent and so strong. Garrett was also dedicated to his family and I loved how Kevin managed to balance him out a little.
The two of them were just so amazing as a couple and I loved this book so much. I can’t wait to find out more about the town in the future series and hope we get to see these two again.
7 Minutes In Kevin is the last story in the Games We Play series. I’ve been anxiously waiting for Kevin’s story and what a doozy it was. He’s been crushing hard on his best friend’s dad forever. Garrett is a long-haul truck driver and is gone for weeks at a time. But when he’s home he likes to have friends over and Kevin is always there. I floved these two, they were sweet, steamy together and so protective over each other. I loved the way Garrett accepted his sexuality and the way he treated Sassy! This was an epic conclusion to the series, and I cannot wait to see where the author takes us next. Overall, fantastic!! Well written with pacing that kept me engaged and reading well into the night hours!
7 Minutes in Kevin is the third book in the Games We Play series by DJ Jamison. This book is about Kevin and Garrett. Kevin has a crush on his friend's father, Garrett feels attrackted to his son's friend. When they end up in a closet together anything can happen......
I really loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written.
Garrett and Kevin have an age gap, best friend's dad, kind of bi awakening love story. And they're both super hesitant because they're worried for all that can go wrong. And what people will think, and the fact Garrett is gone for work so much. But the heat and sweet are all there, and Kevin's story hit home for me because I have a loved one that doesn't fit gender norms and people in small towns are sometimes small minded. I've enjoyed this series, and the titles amused me.
Can I just say that I absolutely LOVED this series! And I am SO glad we’re not done with Granville, NE. I really love when authors let their settings be characters unto themselves.
I always feel like there aren’t enough genderqueer/femboy main characters in romances. So often they’re the “quirky” best friend. I was very excited that Kevin got his own book and I think Jamison did *such* a good job with his character.
As someone who identifies as genderqueer but still uses my assigned at birth pronouns, I really related to Kevin’s story (just from the opposite direction). I also loved that Jamison made the distinction that Kevin isn’t “fearless” because he still has fears just like everyone, but he doesn’t let the fears stop him which makes him brave.
I’m usually not a big fan of large age gaps (I can’t help but think how the older one is likely to die long before the younger and that makes me so sad!), but I appreciated how mature of a character Kevin is and how it helped balance out the relationship. I also found it refreshing that it was Kevin who was reluctant to start a real relationship. It’s often the other way around in these kinds of age gap stories.
And I gotta give a massive shoutout to the dark horse MVP of this book: Linc! I already loved him from his and Darren’s book, but he has solidified his ranking amongst my favorite characters for his sneaky nudges to get Kevin and Garrett together and his devastating one-liners that never fail to shock his bf.
Best Linc Lines: - “Of course you’re a catch, babe,” Linc protested. “Otherwise, why would you be with me?”
- There was a crunching sound, and Linc looked up guiltily, a taco shoved halfway into his mouth.
- Just as everyone started to drink, he added, “I’m so happy for you, Daddy Garrett and Daddy Kev!” Darren and Garrett both choked on their beer. Emily snorted a laugh and high-fived Linc.
- “At least your dad is hot.” “What?” Darren shook his head. “Oh my god. I’m trapped in a nightmare.”
- “Aw, look on the bright side,” Linc said. “It’s very likely you’ll be a DILF one day too.”
- Darren turned toward Linc, eyebrow raised. “Am I going to be a dad?” “Well, I’m not pregnant,” Linc said dryly, “but I believe that one day you will be. When the time is right.” Then, leaving us all gaping, he sauntered off, confident as hell in the future that awaited.
SPOILER BELOW . . . . It would’ve been so easy for Jamison to have Garrett quit his job as a trucker to be with Kevin but I’m so glad they didn’t go down that route. I honestly expected it at first, but it really added something unique to Kevin and Garrett’s relationship that you don’t see in a lot of romance novels and is a great reminder that there are so many different ways to have a happy and healthy relationship.

Shannan – ☆☆☆☆ 7 MINUTES IN KEVIN is the third and final installment in the Games We Play series. It can be read as a standalone, but I feel you need to read the series in order to get a complete picture of the attraction between Garrett and Kevin.
Garrett has noticed Kevin, more than noticed, but he can't act on those desires since Kevin is twenty years younger and his son's best friend. But something about Kevin calls to Garrett in ways he never expected. Being with a man is something that Garrett has never done but has been questioning himself about recently. Can seven minutes in a closet change everything he's known about himself?
Kevin has been obsessed with Garrett for as long as he could remember, but anything more than staring and flirting with Garrett was something he never saw coming. When Kevin is given the chance, he jumps on it; but how long can it really last? Can they keep what's between them a secret from the people who mean the most to them? What happens when they find out?
DJ Jamison saved the best for last with this series. Kevin's character was amazing, embracing his fem side and doing what makes him happy. Garrett loved everything about Kevin. While Kevin was worried what people would think of them together, Garrett just wanted to love and protect everything about Kevin.
I can't wait to see what's next from this author!

It’s another great entry in this author’s Games We Play series! I love Kevin’s character and how open and true to himself he is. A budding drag queen he may be, but he is also a selfless and thoughtful person always willing to help friends and family when needed. He’s such an easy person to like.
Garrett is Kevin’s best friend’s father, and therein lies the wrinkle in the relationship he and Kevin embark on after they have a steamy but quick encounter thanks to the Seven Minutes in Heaven party game. There’s also that twenty-year age gap to consider, and the fact that Kevin doesn’t conform to gender norms when it comes to how he dresses—makeup and all…and not just when he’s doing drag.
The wonderful thing though is that neither of them cares about all of those things when it comes to each other. They only have eyes for each other, it’s mostly overcoming their own doubts that gets in their way. Thankfully they both have good heads on their shoulders, and a lot of faith in what they each feel for the other. It’s obvious when they’re together that they’re a fantastic match.
7 Minutes in Kevin was a solid 4-star read for me, with my only niggle being that it felt longer than it needed to be to tell the story. That said, this is a really good read and while it’s part of a series and characters from the series do play important supporting roles, you can still read this as a standalone. This story is for readers 18+ for adult language and steamy sexual content.
— best friend’s dad — age gap — queer awakening — pining — secret relationship — feminine clothes and makeup — rimming
Soooo I think my issue with this series has been that even though these are fairly long romances, the relationships feel very surface level to me.
Considering how long Garrett and Kevin have known each other, I don’t understand what switch magically flipped (besides some accidental action in the closet in like the first chapter) All of a sudden Garrett was “seeing Kevin differently” but WHY??
I just needed more in order to believe in their relationship. And I just don’t see how these two will actually be together long term. Not even because of the age, but they live vastly different lives. Garrett was like Kevin’s hype man. He clearly cared about him, wanted him to succeed, but it felt more like a friend/father figure than a boyfriend to me. . .
ARC REVIEW ❤️Age gap ❤️Awakening and coming out ❤️Friend's dad (Darren's dad) ❤️Femme + Drag ❤️Size difference! ❤️Long time crush and pining
And like the rest of the series: ⭐️Small town ⭐️Lots of good friends, family and town people ⭐️Awakening during a game
This series is low angst, but in this story we have to wait a bit more for them to take steps forward or admit their real feelings, compared to Darren's story where he wanted to date Linc from early on, here we have a friends with benefits situation for a while because things are too complicated for them to be easily out.
Kevin has already had feelings for Garrett for a long time, and Garrett has been attracted by him for a while too. There had been a lot of silent mutual pining. After their "7 minutes in heaven" they can't ignore their chemistry anymore. But they are scared by the age gap, the fact that Garrett is Darren's dad, and that Garrett has been "straight" his whole life, and married, Garrett's job on the road. Kevin is scared that being a femboy and a drag, Garrett is confused and doesn’t see him as a man (but it's clear that's not the case). So for all these reasons Kevin tries to keep things as just sx and push Garrett away.
Kevin is a bit insecure but also assertive, Garrett is selfless, protective, caring. (that must be whom Darren got it from)
Finally their feelings are too strong to ignore and what others might think becomes unimportant.
I have loved this series. If you haven't read it yet, start by "Two Truths and a Lyle", the childhood-friends-to-lovers prequel still available for free as part of YBBB (I LOVE Truman and Lyle)
This is a best-friend’s dad, age-gap romance for Kevin and Garrett, and it offers a nice combination of sweetness, heat, and character development. They’re both good for, and to, each other and it’s easy to see how well they fit. Watching them figure out that 1) the feelings are mutual and 2) how to make it work against the backdrop of small-town scrutiny, Garrett’s job as a long-haul trucker who’s gone a lot, and the whole “Garett’s son is Kevin’s best friend” conundrum is easy to get invested in. That their relationship arc unfolds against the backdrop of a small town with some pretty dynamic (some quite familiar, if you’ve read previous books in the series) supporting characters adds depth and interest to an already compelling narrative.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is my favorite book of the series. Kevin has been crushing on his friend's dad, and Garrett has been noticing Kevin as well. Then a game of 7 minutes in heaven pushes them together. They both worry about what their friends and family, as well as the town in general, will think of their relationship. They try to keep it causal, but feelings get involved pretty quickly.
I absolutely loved Kevin. He is the perfect mix of bold and vulnerable, and is never afraid to be himself. He had a lot of obstacles to overcome, especially regarding planning Pride. Kevin met every challenge, and showed a ton of maturity and growth. Garrett is a total cinnamon roll, and I enjoyed watching him learn to put himself first for a change. It was also great to see him embrace all aspects of Kevin, especially Sassy Solo. There were some great story arcs, and the secondary characters and world building were phenomenal. And who doesn't love Drag Queens lol
Overall, a fantastic read. I'm sad the series is ending, but glad there is another coming set in the same town so we can revisit some of our favorite characters
I received and ARC of this book from Neon Rainbow Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
This is the book I was most excited about in this series. I have loved Kevin as a side character throughout the series, so I'm so glad he has his own book. There was a lot of introspection between Kevin and Garrett as they learned more about themselves, and I really enjoyed seeing that. Some best friend's dad stories are cringey, but this was not one of them. Kevin and Garrett are opposites that just work together somehow. I loved the Pride celebration planning going on in the background of the story, and the drag queens were amazing. I was so happy to see Kevin get his well-deserved HEA after so much pining. I can't help but chuckle at Lincoln's matchmaking. It worked. Overall, a fun read that is my favorite in the series.
It has age gap of 20 years and I was sooo here for it! Kevin is 25 and basically in love with Darren’s dad, Garret, and these two just have the best relationship. Garret is such a sweetheart and perfect for Kevin.
I noticed the author delayed the release of this book to portray Kevin in the best way and I think she did do that.
I’m sad this is the last book of this series because I enjoyed it so much, but there will be spin-offs so I can’t wait!
