Hot as Hades.

description

So at the end of the last issue, Diana gets sucked into the ground in front of her friends. And now we know just who did the sucking.
She's been called to the carpet by Hades for escaping The Wild Isle in Hell. And yet, she retains her sass in the face of this god. Right till the end, at least.

description

But this issue gives us some flashbacks to the time she met (and was granted some magic bone and flesh from) Prometheus, and how she ended up with Pegasus.
This was another great story. Maybe my favorite so far.

And can I just say how much I love Mattia De Iulis art?
There's also a Lil Diana story with art by Dustin Nguyen. <--cute
Highly Recommended.

Of course she has three lassos. Of course she has a huge axe. I can’t get over how cool the Absolute Wonder Woman is. Be buff and tattooed forever please.

A perfect book, really. This Diana is motivated by compassion in all that she does. It’s so nice to hear her stories told in her own voice. Wonder Woman is a legend— but at the same time, Diana is so human. The addition of the backup stories, while short and cute, further support this theme. And the art is beautiful! Just awesome. Absolute Wonder Woman is surely the best thing I’m reading right now, if not one or the best books I’ve ever read.

Beautiful art and a wonderful story describing not only Diana's power, but the strength of her will in the face of the Gods.

Immediately missing Sherman’s art, but it’s nice to see WW in bad-ass hyperrealistic style too. I love how Thompson continues to bring in Diana’s mythological background in interesting ways. Hades beware.

Absolute Wonder Woman #6 shifts gears hard—new arc, new threat, and a totally different art style that’s rougher but full of energy. It’s a big change, but it kind of works with the tone. Really liked Diana’s interactions with the gods.

I’m so glad there’s an alternative to what that hack Tom King is doing to mainline Diana. I’m loving this version of the character. Kelly Thompson really found a unique but familiar voice that’s fundamentally still the core of Diana

PHENOMENAL!! I only wish this was the regular series artist! 🫤 But, seriously, Absolute WW is the BEST Absolute title, hands down.

Another incredible issue of this run. Kelly Thompson once again makes great use of Greek mythology while still maintaining what makes Wonder Woman a compelling character in the first place. Her freeing Prometheus was a great example of this, peacefully asking the eagles to stop tormenting him. This issue had a different artist from the previous issues, illustrated by Mattia De Iulis, and his art is absolutely stunning. He has a great sense of scale. The shot of her first encounter of Prometheus and her first encounter with the Basilisk are some of my favorite shots of the issue. The Basilisk scene especially was great, referencing Wonder Woman's fight with Medusa in the main continuity by blinding herself. I really curious how the next issue will conclude this portion of the story.

Continues to hit on all cylinders

I’ve dropped both Absolute Batman and Absolute Superman as neither title holds any appeal. But this book continues to be amazing! Maybe it’s the mythological aspect, maybe it’s darker themes, maybe it’s just not Tom King’s WW. Whatever it is, it’s one of the best books out there right now.

I'll give this one four stars simply because you get a interesting view of Greek mythology through the eyes of Diana.

This issue seems to be more a background issue, explaining what has been and what currently is.

If you enjoyed Greek mythology in school this one will be entertaining.

Wow that artist change was a surprise but a welcome one, I love the usual artist but this style fits so well with this new storyline because it looks like I am staring at portraits of green myth. It’s amazing and this series continues to be my favorite. Last we left Diana she had just defeated the monster and was surrounded by friends…only to get immediately dragged into hell. We now find her on her knees in front of the Hades siting on his throne. I really love hades style here, a red floating crown while he himself is covered in blue flames. She was not supposed to leave the underworld at all, and they will get to that point later, but first…hades started to belittle his demon, Diana did not have her weapons removed!! The demon is confused, she doesn’t have any weapons, only her armor. Hades points out that he is a fool, and everything on her is a weapon!!

Hades asked if she would disarm herself, which meant WW has to take off basically every piece of armor. She left her boots on to make things easier, but she is now down to just rags and bandages. One thing I love about this scene is the bantering between Diana and Hades, she delicately dances on the line of making fun but not making fun of him, and hades even points out that Circe sharpened her tongue too much. But once thing Diana neglected to empty was her magical bag, hades could smell the stench of it and made her take everything out. This included her awesome sword and three lassos. One green, one blue, and one red. We’ve already seen the red one in action, the nemesis lasso. And its one hades is particularly interested in. He tried to get his demon to pick it up, but it shocked him away…only Diana can use it.

And now from hades prodding, we get to go into the history of the nemesis lasso and what it is made from. In part it is made from Prometheus! The god who is constantly tortured for giving fire to humanity. Diana scaled up to his mountain and granted him a respite from his torture. By freeing his chains, and asking the hawks that feed on him not to come back and they will be in her debt. They actually agreed, and Prometheus was glad to have the help…even though they died not guarantee a new creature won’t come. In return for this help, Diana humbly asked for a vial of his blood, with the promise that its power will only be used for good. Prometheus accepted, reminding her that he can also see into the future and wants to help her on her path. He even asked her to strike at the tip of his giant finger, and to take a bit of his skin as well in case it comes in handy later. And as one final gift from Prometheus, we see as the one and only Pegasus rises from the ground!! This is also how Diana came to know Pegasus, I love this so much and Prometheus is such a real one!!

But hades senses more than just Prometheus on the nemesis lasso. Diana confirms his suspicion, it is also basked in basilisk blood. Hades is surprised that she killed the last basilisk. But she confirms it was not as a trophy, the basilisk soul was soaked in the blood of the innocent and Zeus sent it after her to kill her…so she struck it in its lair instead. But the legends go that the basilisk eyes mean certain death. Unknown is this is just a story about its danger or something real, she decided not to take the chance and to temporarily blind herself while fighting it!! Hahahaha, that’s insane, and so awesome!! She also removed her sense of smell in order to exploit the basilisk’s strong sense of smell and use magical potions that throw its sense of smell completely out of whack. In doing so she was able to get the upper hand she needed to slice its head off.

Naturally Circe and Diana used every piece of it, as a matter of conservation. But hades now would like to turn that idea of conservation on its head, as he reveals that he has Circe in chains before them!! We all have weaknesses…and now he has found and chained hers. You’ve got to be kidding me?! Crap, okay she left, what’s the big deal?? Dang this series is so good. This issue also has a few backups. Two cut mini stories of “Lil Diana,” showcasing her time as a child in hell. The first story shows Circe trying to teach her transmogrification, but instead of turning the creature into what they discussed…she turns it into what it always wanted it to be and turned it into a happy little fire bird. “Now that he’s happy maybe he won’t be so naughty!” The second story shows Diana kicking the butt of a worm like creature, the opening its mouth to her all the creatures it tried to eat out of it. Hahahaha, I’m sure it won’t try that again.

Okay, this was a really, really great issue. I feel like this might actually be the strongest one so far this is the sixth, right? Yeah, definitely the strongest of the last five. I really liked how it leaned heavily into the Greek mythology surrounding Wonder Woman.

One thing I’ve noticed (or kind of had as a slight complaint) is that Wonder Woman doesn’t always embrace her Greek origins as much as she could. Not that it's a bad thing exactly, but there’s so much potential there beyond just fighting Ares or Hades all the time. Though, to be fair, she does face off with Hades in this issue.

One thing I appreciated about Hades here is that he doesn’t come off as overly evil or hot-headed. I’ve always preferred versions of Hades that stick closer to the original myths, where he’s actually one of the more chill gods compared to the others.

I also liked how this issue had her interacting with different gods, facing Greek beasts, and going on a classic mythological-style quest. It just felt so authentic and fun. This whole run so far has really shown me how much more compelling Wonder Woman can be when she leans into her Greek roots her magic, her mysticism, all of that.

I mean, if you’re the daughter of Zeus, you should definitely know spells and have some magical ability, right? Even if not all his kids do, it feels like something she should tap into more. And here, she really does. It was just a really solid issue, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Princess Diana is back in issue #6 after her first 5 issue run, and this storyline and artwork is not letting up.
The “Absolute” series is an amazing treat for me as my first foray into reading comics seriously.

Diana is found at the Throne of Hades recanting her journeys from past to present. Hades is not pleased and is not thrilled by any of her actions. As you read more into this, you will find out what is at stake, and kind of see the trajectory of this 2 part journey that we are beginning in issue #6.

Beautifully drawn, with seemingly more detail than the last 5. The story/dialogue is fitting for the Princess and a nice call back to things we did not know happened in the background for her to get to this point. Easily a 5/5 star issue, and can’t wait for more to roll out the in this series.

I enjoyed this issue, but it feels like the weakest entry in the series so far. I do like the art, although it is very different from Hayden Sherman’s style. The artwork is still fantastic, but the overall vibe feels a bit different from the previous five issues. The story is fun, yet it mostly comes across as a fetch quest that serves to provide backstory for the items Diana has. I definitely enjoyed reading it, but it clearly feels like a fill-in issue between arcs. I still recommend this issue.

Was a bit disapointed by how the last arc ended.
But this one begins in FIRE.
Change of artist, yeah. OK. Not a fan of this wanna-be-real art style.
Until I saw Diana blue eyes worring, damn.
Not to my like, but capture this Diana perfectly.
Also, all the gods design are fire! Love Hades
And lastly, love to peak at how they made the weapons.
And Lil' Diane.

This issue was good in a way that really challenges how i think of good writing but not really. On the surface it’s just talking but really it’s the way the writer speaks and uses diana wit and clever thinking and expressing herself that really stands out and is a very enjoyable read. I very much enjoyed this issue and hope for most stories like this in this series plus maybe following this specific writer, they have proven themselves to be very talented.

Another great issue, Hades pulls Diana into the underworld to interrogate her on her exploits and how she made her weapons. The change in artist is really cool and fits the feel of this issue since we are exploring Diana’s flashbacks. That and of course…..Diana is both absurdly badass in this series and sexy as hell.

Also adorable little mini stories at the end from back when Diana was a kid. Very wholesome.

thoroughly enjoying this series integration of greek mythology & it’s masterful characterisation of Diana (the “L’il Diana” bonus story in particular) but i cannot get down with it’s tone! WW pointing out the absurdity of Hades watching cartoons doesn’t make it any less absurd that Hades watches cartoons! theoretically this is my favourite iteration of Diana *ever* but the contrast of dark subject matter & brutal violence with this Saturday-morning-cartoon vibe is counterintuitive

This issue started the two-part arc, "The Lady or the Tiger", a breather after the first arc, The main artist took a break, too.

This issue also has two one-page gag stories of Li'l Diana, with art Dustin Nguyen. These two fun pieces continue the theme of hashing out Diana's childhood, while the main story revealed the origin of the Nemesis lasso.
