About the Peruvian Amazon and its wonders. Using as a starter two trips in the Amazon area?one in the river itself and one into the jungle?the book is both an enjoyable travelogue for armhair adventurers and a handbook full of information for those planning an Amazon expedition,
I find the Amazon basin fascinating. Among other things, the Amazon River is the only river in the world which has a natural connection with an entirely different river – in this case, the Orinoco. There are quite possibly Indian nations in the Amazon jungle which remain undiscovered. Yet this book managed to make the subject somewhat boring.
Hidden Amazon: The Greatest Voyage in Natural History by Richard L. Lutz (Dimi Press 1999)(508.8544). I did not care for this book at all. It reads like a vanity press publication. It could have been very interesting. 2/10, finished 3/29/11.
I have been reading Dick Lutz’s Hidden Amazon: the Greatest Voyage in Natural History (1999). It’s a very interesting account of a fancy boat trip excursion in the upper reaches of the Amazon. - R. H. Helmholz
