Using an allegory of two historic maritime disasters (The St. Patrick and the Titanic), two Utah pastors challenge their LDS neighbors to consider whether their church restored the gospel and the true church, or if its members have abandoned a faithful vessel in favor of a glorious coffin. Carefully and compassionately, Dave Mallinak and Brandon Vaughan examine the teachings of Mormonism to see if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored Christian church, or if it is a radical departure from Biblical truth.
I will be writing up a more comprehensive review and recommendation of this book on my old book blog (time to get that back up to snuff, FWIW, prolly, not much, ha!). What an excellent book. The authors demonstrate great love and concern for our friends, and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mallinak and Vaughan did a great job presenting the true and powerful Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, and many other related issues of doctrine and practice. They do not (and you can tell that they are careful about these things) mischaracterize or even demonize the LDS Church. What a great read! Both authors show us the best ways of dealing with our "religious but lost" friends. Bravo! Four stars coz. five in my book would mean perfection. I have very little (yea ever so slight) disagreements BUT substantively speaking this book is very good.
