I wish I could give this one more stars but it just went off the rails about 3/4ths of the way through the book. And, honestly, I even low key predicted the plot twist but kinda hoped it wouldn’t happen and it did.

I liked Roman and Waverly for each other. I think they had good chemistry and a nice slow burn and there were a lot of valid things keeping them apart.

I even appreciate that their romance didn’t really take off until a solid year after they lost Patrick. I felt like the romance wasn’t coming too soon in her grief and the fact that they had been close before Patrick’s death just helped.

But then. But then when all that delicious teasing and slow burn goodness was primed to reach its pinnacle… JK Patrick is alive! 🙄🙄🙄 It was dumb when Pearl Harbor did it and it’s dumb here.

That MFer disappears for a whole ass year and never ONCE called his family??? And ok, fine, amnesia, but he even admitted he remembered around 7/8 months and he STILL didn’t call his family?? Instead he had an affair.

And everyone kept repeating how he was “good at heart” NO HE WASN’T. He treated Waverly like shit from start to finish, he purposely dangled her in front of his brother, after blatantly making a move when he knew his brother was interested, and continuing to know he was interested, and then forced them apart when the inevitable happened and Roman told her how he felt.

AND THEN leaves his family in mourning months longer than he needs to, and goes on to have an affair and a FAMILY despite denying that to Waverly for years.

Like, fuck Patrick. He’s not a good guy to anyone.

The ending of this book was just too over the top for me. Add to that the MULTIPLE editing errors (there were so many times the POV switched mid sentence to the point I couldn’t always tell what was going on) and this book’s only rates a 2.5 for me.

A great second chance romance! Mildly spicy toward the end. Waverly was devastated at the loss of her fiancé to a freak tsunami. As time passed and she healed from her loss, she realized that he may not have actually been the love of her life. She analyzes the relationship and discovers it may have caused her to lose herself. As she rediscovers who she is, she finds that she is drawn to another man, her fiancé’s brother. Roman has always been attracted to Waverly but has doubts if they can ever be more than friends. Will they find more than friendship? Will his family accept Waverly without Patrick? What happens when a wrench is thrown at them?

Such great writing, I had trouble putting it down. I can’t wait to read more from Kellie Storm!

I received this book in my monthly book box. I loved it. It is a reverse age gap if you will. The FMC is older. I loved the storyline. The MMC he will get your heartstrings tugging. He is the perfect book boyfriend. I highly recommend this book. There is some spice but its minimal, but the yearning is out of this world. The sexual tension can be felt through the pages of this book. You will not be disappointed.
