one of a select group of titles which deals with the institutional abuse found in churches and this explores very recent ones. It is a theological review rather than an analysis of what went wrong socially and organisationally because it is often the theology which is problematic and which gets pushed to one side. If your beliefs are toxic then don't be surprised if some powerful individuals use it to abuse when they have the opportunity. This is an academic book so a solid read. Recommended.
The consideration of power by Selina makes this book worth reading just for that - but there's a lot more to it than that as well.
The book considers how some theologies could enable abuse and create an environment where it would make it hard to report. However this is also a positive book that gives suggestions about what a positive community could be like.
