Stranger Things Omnibus Volume 2

Rate this book
The second massive collection of comics based on Netflix’s 80’s-nostalgia-fueled Stranger Things. Sci-fi horror at its best, including demonic creatures from other dimensions, mad scientists, secret agents, and so much more!

Includes three complete series and three additional one-shot issues.

The Voyage tells the story of Captain Jacoby, whose freighter ship is chartered by a group of Russians looking to get from Alaska back to Kamchatka. But when a ship mate gets butchered at sea, the captain and his crew must root out a monster while a vicious storm rages all around them.

In Kamchatka, a leading Soviet scientist is abducted to work on with the Kremlin’s new ultimate weapon—a Demogorgon! What the doctor’s captors didn’t count on was the resiliency of his children, who embark on a harrowing and perilous journey to find him. Their only hope of success is a retired but deadly KGB agent.

Tomb of Ybwen is set in the aftermath of Bob Newby’s death. Will Byers, still grieving his friend, discovers a mysterious map left behind by Bob. He resolves to follow the clues despite an oncoming blizzard, and Mike, Dustin and Lucas rush to stop him. The ensuing treasure hunt leads somewhere they never could have expected!

Also collected here are all three Stranger Things holiday specials!

This action-packed volume features stories written by Michael Moreci, Greg Pak, Chris Roberson, and Keith Champagne and illustrated by Todor Hristov, Diego Galindo, ABEL, and Caio Filipe.

There's a punch of more heart in this collection of stories than in the previous. Pak shifts the attention of lore-building and history-charting, for the most part, back to the kids. Part of the reason for reading comics or extra narrative like this is not to expand my bonafides as a fan, though it doesn't hurt, but rather to spend more time with the characters I love. It's what makes the Tomb of Ybwen such a touching tale amidst the "Aliens" at sea spin-off adventure, which colors in some backstory, and "Kamatchka," which serves the same purpose. I want to see these kids interacting when their town is not under siege from the Mind Flayer and Vecna. I want to see them catch up and spill the beans about past adventures, and see their reactions as they understand how much everyone has really endured under the ritualistic, separate-paths narrative structure of this sci-fi, 80s-stylized horror-adventure series. My friends are being held hostage by delays, expensive reshoots, and career commitments; these comics and books are my secret tunnel back to them. It's a hand-drawn picture, not a live-action reflection, but it's enough to warm the soul in the cold. That's what I want from these kinds of books: a proverbial phone call from a long-distance friend. Or in this case, a radio call through Cerebro on top of a field before breaking out into a duet of NeverEnding Story -- whichever floats your boat.

I was excited to read this, especially coinciding with the staggered release of Season 5, but the stories included were markedly less enjoyable than those appearing in Omnibus Volume One.

Enjoyed the stories in this collection a little more than volume 1. Some good little extras for the Stranger Things universe.
