I was born and raised in the small town of Klamath Falls. It is there that I met my husband and had my first two children. In 1999 we left Klamath Falls, headed towards Portland. I have since had one more child and have settled in Newberg. I worked as a waitress in a French Bistro for nearly five years before quitting to help care for my ill grandmother. It was during my care of her that I decided to go to school for Medical Assisting. I had planned on continuing onto nursing, but landed a job with a Dr. I highly admire in a practice that I love, that has trained me beyond my schooling. In the nearly five years that I have been employed there, I have spent a large amount of time commuting. During those times I would spin many stories in my mind with the intention of writing them down. I have always loved to write, but have ventured away from it due to lack of time and life. The story of Neveah and Lilly stuck with me and I decided to write it down. I never intended for it to go this far, or become a full fledged story that I would be so proud of. I look forward to seeing where this journey leads me!
Great read if...you enjoy suspense, romance, thrillers, fast paced stories, details, drama, excitement, plot twists, rekindling love, and a HEA.
Side Note: Let me start by saying I don't usually head straight for suspense books, but this one I just couldn't pass up! The way you watch the story unfold and the plot thicken, you feel like you've been sucked into one of those old movies and constantly should be checking over your shoulder! The thrill was extremely refreshing for me. There heroine is strong and smart as well as very feminine, while the hero felt was perfect with one flaw that could make or break him for many people. I felt the flaw was refreshing as was the struggles they faced together as well. Somewhere between falling in love with their story and chewing on my nails in suspense, I lost track of time and devoured this book in one sitting!
This is my first review for Angie Merriam and I hope it won't be my last, she did a great job keeping the readers interest peaked with You Are My Sunshine.
In the first part of the book we meet Matt and Sunshine Everly. High school sweethearts, best friends, they have two kids and oh by the way, they are divorced. Matt was a total scumbag and slept with another woman which ruined his marriage. Sunshine was the bigger person and let Matt stay in her life for the sake of her kids. At least that is what she tells herself, as it's hard to imagine her life without Matt in it.
Matt is a cop and is truly sorry for breaking Sunshine's heart. So sorry that he will wait however long it takes to get his Sunshine back. Playing best friends is hard with the love of his life, but he owes it to her and hopes one day she will change her mind.
Matt and Sunshine live in a small town where everybody is all up in each other's business. Unfortunately for Sunshine, the entire town knew what Matt did to her and who he did it with. Even after divorcing, everybody knew who Matt and Sunshine dated and reported it back to the other. Not until a couple of girls very close to them are found dead do Matt and Sunshine realize just how much they need each other.
This is where the book splits into two stories for me. Now that Matt and Sunshine are sorted out a bit, we have some murders to solve. We are given the killer's POV as well as Sunshine's which I really enjoyed. As I read the killers chapters, it reminded me of the TV show Dexter. There is a dark passenger that needs taken care of and death is the only way it's satisfied. The killer was written well so you really weren't sure who in the heck it was-at first. The town is small and intertwined, it made sense for a few people to want those girls dead as mean as that sounds.
The book is well written and a great read, a nice mix of romance and suspense without feeling drawn out. Angie Merriam wrapped things up, but also left a tiny opening in the end for something more.
I was instantly hooked on this book and I'm not going to lie, was instantly trying to figure out who did it. Yes, I'm the person who tries to figure it out before everyone else in the book, lol. It's why I love mystery/suspense writing and authors. At any rate, I digress.
I LOVED this book. It was full of twists and turns, and nope I didn't get it right, even when I changed my mind several times, ha. You love both Matt and Sunshine and can't help but hope they get the killer in time. You fall in and out love with each of the characters the creates, feeling their pain and their love. Falling just a little deeper into their story with each page that you turn.
The book reads easy, but still has the intriguing, twisting story line that we all love. It's a whirlwind of surprises, twists and turns, that you'll thoroughly enjoy :)
I am giving this review for author Angie Merriam. This is the first book I have read from the author but it wont be the last.
Sunny Everly is divorced with 2 kids and she finds out some truths about her past when someone murders a few women in the city where she lives. Matt Everly knew the women who were murdered and with Sunny by his side they find out who the killer really is.
This has action, murder, drama and suspense along with romance. The interaction of all the characters was great. The story flow line was so smooth from start to finish. The author brought in the twists of the story with care so you did not get mixed up.
This book is a great addition to any thriller/suspense romance library. Because of some adult language and conduct this book is for mature readers. This book hints that there is a book 2 in the future which I hope there is.
'You Are My Sunshine' absolutely blew me away!!! It was so much more than I expected!! This book is full of emotion, I held my breath through most of this book and even felt sick at some points...Angie really takes you on a journey!! You fall in love with Sunshine and Matt Everly from the very beginning and pull for them throughout the book...but just when you think you know what is going to happen, THINK AGAIN! This is a suspense romance that everyone will love and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I guarantee you wont be able to put the book down! Definitely a 5 STAR read that will leave you wanting more!!
HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!!!!!! BEYOND 5 STARS!! I received an ARC of You Are My Sunshine by Angie Merriam in exchange for an honest review. WOW This book was a page turner. Talk about when you think you know who did it YOU DON'T!! I mean Shannon totally blew my mind with the letter she left behind. Sunshine and Matt a couple who had it all until Matt told Sunshine about his affair with Keely the town whore. This book has all sorts of twists and turns and you can't guess things cause onces you think you got it the next sentences proves your theory WRONG!!! Angie thank you for the chance to read and review You are my Sunshine cause MAN OH MAN IT WAS AWESOME!!!! THRILLER THATS FOR SURE!!
This was a really good book. I am not a fan of cheating so I really wasn't on board with Matt, the ex-husband at first. He does spend a lot of time with his kids and tries to make up for his infidelity. Sunshine is pretty good. She has a back bone and doesn't really sit around complaining about her life. She loves and takes care of her kids and you can tell that she is hurt by Matt. I think that the author did an awesome job of keeping the identity of the killer a secret and I was seriously trying to figure it out the whole time. Great job of keeping me guessing. This was a very quick read and I was not bored at all.
I am giving this book 4.3 stars. I think most people will like it.
Sunshine is a remarkable woman. She has managed to make co-parenting with her cheating ex-husband work really well. It isn't every person who can put their ego aside and do what is best for the children. That is a tough pill to swallow, for sure.
Angie Merriam did a fantastic job creating well-rounded characters. She went against type and wrote a story about a spouse who cheated without turning that character into a one-dimensional hussy (lol, I love that word for a cheater).
I also feel the book ends wide open for a possible sequel. While I do enjoy stand-alone novels, I would love to revisit these characters.
Wow…just wow!!! This is my first Angie Merriam book, and I can tell you right now, I will read another. You are my Sunshine, had so many twists, and tuns, once I thought I was on the right path…nope, another twist. It was intriguing, it held my attention the whole way thru, and the emotions these character brought out in you…some you want to hug and some you want to throttle!!! Superb writing, and an excellent story line. Cant wait for more!!
Wow!!! I loved this book!! It has you guessing at every turn. And just when you think you have it figured out you couldn't be more wrong. And Matt oh Matt. My heart beats for you. What an amazing man. This was the 1st book I've ever read in the genre and I loved it. I can't wait for more from this author
This book had my attention from start to finish! I sat down thinking id just take a peak at it while waiting at the DMV this morning then before i knew it I was sucked into Sunshine and Matt's story and was almost pissed off when my number was called and it was my turn at the DMV and i had to put my kindle away lol. I rushed home and turned off my phone and hid away for hours til i finally finished You Are My Sunshine.
I wasn't sure at first what i thought of seeing things from the bad guys point of view, then i was pulled into his messed up way of thinking too! For a while i actually pitied him and was going along with his thoughts of he was doing the world a favor by ridding their lovely town of the riff raff....then he pissed me off again and i was back to knowing he was a bad guy for sure lol....and he only got worse from there lol.
Love can be amazing and you can see that in Sunshine and Matt. Love can also be stupid and painful which they also show us lol. Watching the love that Matt has for Sunshine makes my heart melt and gives me flutters. Watching Matt mess up that love made me want to kick him in the nards lol. Watching Sunshine struggle to put her children first and try to still have a relationship with Matt for their sake makes me smile. Watching Matt fight for Sunshines forgiveness reinvents my faith in the male race lol. Watching Sunshine become friends, then best friends, then once again lovers with the man that broke her heart but then put it back together again gives me faith in Love and its ability to heal.
Matt and Sunshines love was never in question in this book. Matt made a mistake and hes willing to spend the rest of his life making it up to his wife, no matter if she agrees to take him back or not. Just when Sunshine starts to let Matt back in evil forces start trying to threaten to take her from him permanently. NO WAY will that happen on Matt's watch. Sunshine and his kids are his world and he will do anything possible to protect them, and if that means spending lots of time with his wife and possibly getting her to forgive him then thats just a great bonus.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I've read by Angie Merriam but it certainly won't be the last. Sunshine and Matt were married but got divorced when he cheated. They remained friends and were raising their two children together. Then when women's dead bodies started showing up outside of town they leaned on each other even more for support and safety (as Matt is a police officer). I really enjoyed the twists and turns this story took as we not only got to see Matt and Sunshine try to figure out their relationship but also trying to figure out who the serial killer was. The flashbacks allowed us to see the murders happen as told from the killer's perspective, but yet didn't give away their identity. At times the timeline got a bit confusing between the flashbacks and current time, but by the end it turned out to be a good thing as it created more mystery as to the killer's identity (as you couldn't eliminate suspects as easily). There were many great twists and turns and I found myself wanting to read faster just to get to the conclusion, but yet I didn't want to miss any detail. This was a great story and I'm so glad I read it. One content warning though - there is a lot of swearing in the story and graphic murder scenes (not bloody though). It doesn't bother me at all, but if it bothers you then you may want to skip this book.
So from the start I had a whole heap of respect for Sunshine Everly. She had her heart broken by her first love and husband Matt. Worse still the fact that her Matt slept with another woman in the small town so everybody knew the reason behind their divorce. But Sunshine sucked it up and still maintained a good relationship with him for the sake of their two children.
It took me a LONG time to willingly accept Matt as cheating is just wrong. But Matt was a man who did everything that he could to try and right the wrongs that he had done and win Sunshine back so that his family could be whole again.
The best thing I liked about this book was the side story which eventually took over from the love story turning the book into a gritty suspense with a dark edge when a serial killer starts taking out women that can all be linked back to Matt.
A fantastic novel and I will definitely be reading more of Angie’s stories in the future.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Diana.
This is my 1st book by this author, but it wont be my last... Sunny and Matt where married but have now divorced, they have two small children and are now best friends, they are still in love with each other, but Matt cheated on Sunny and now she doesn't feel like she can trust him. We also have a killer on the loose, who is killing young girls.... This is written in Sunny's pov. Matt who is a police officer is on the case and he's determined to find the killer..... We get a pov from the killer also which I enjoyed, I thought it was a brilliant idea to see and know what the killer was doing and thinking... I thought I knew who the killer was a couple of times, but I was wrong. I will admit i didn't work out who the bleach killer was, grrrr. Which for me is the sign of a great book... If you want a romance with a thriller kick then this book is right up your street, you wont regret one clicking this book.
"You are my Sunshine" is what Matt would say to his ex-wife even after they were divorced due to his infidelity. Due to that infidelity some readers may not find this book of interest but it still kept mine despite my personal opinions n cheating. Reason for that is the pure fact that the writer made the story plot believable. Reading this book will have you feeling the betrayal (not just about the cheating), the truth, and the cover-ups that have existed throughout Sunshine's life. How she handles those betrayals and the suspicious deaths of two local girls will keep you on your toes and have you rooting for Sunshine to overcome it all.
Looking forward to adding this author to my must read list.
I loved this story. I read a lot of books for review, I finally had a chance to read one for me and dug into my kindle for one that I have been waiting to start. It is so refreshing to read a well written story that can take you for a ride. I did not want to put this one down. Very suspenseful, fast paced, with drama. It has deceit, betrayal, murder, and love, all wrapped up in a very good book. Thank You Angie for writing this story.
I enjoyed this book, the characters were engaging, and I found them to be believable. One thing about any romance mystery is they are fairly predictable, however including the killer's point of view definitely improved on this difficulty. There were some surprises in this book, and it's very well written, but not entirely my style, if you like Romance Mysteries, this is the book for you.
This was an interesting story. I loved the plot and the characters. I did feel it moved a little fast in some places, but really enjoyed the simplicity as well as the intricacies involved. I will be keeping an eye out for more from this author - I see great things in her future!
This a fantastic story full of suspense, intrigue, sexiness, and enough twists and turns to keep you hooked. The characters are well developed and interesting, each bringing something new to the plot. It's very well written.
Great storyline... just didn't feel it!! I wanted the angst over the cheating, the shock of the parentage and the horror over the murders. What I got was meh....
3.5-4 stars. Sunshine Everly has remained amicable and friendly with her ex-husband Matt. She might not trust him with her heart, but she does trust him with the children and everything else. Matt knew he made a colossal mistake about 2 years ago and has regretted it ever since, making sure to be there for Sunny in every way possible, even more if she'd let him back in. In the meantime, there's a serial killer in the town of Lincoln, whose targets happen to be females and Matt has every reason to worry about Sunny's safety. I really liked the angle of Matt and Sunny being exes and raising their children together without any open hostility. I completely understood why Sunny didn't want a relationship with Matt again and how Matt wouldn't stop giving up hope that Sunny would change her mind. The story moves a bit fast although given the history of Matt and Sunny, there's obviously a lot of build up in the past that it doesn't take away from their relationship progression. There are other twists and turns included to show that not everything is black and white, which added to the drama, but I liked the complexity in this scenario.
Honestly, what did I just read?. It was like one minute I thought I might have it figured out and then BAM I get slapped in the face with a crazy new piece to the story. I LOVED IT!!! I'm not going to sit here and say I loved everything about it. I found at times I was shaking my head at some of the events that were happening or something someone was saying just because it seemed a little bit unrealistic. Overall though, I really did enjoy this book. It also deals with cheating, something I generally shy away from and have a hard time getting through, but even though I have such strong feelings on the subject the main way it was involved in the story did not really offend me the way some others do. I have to admit, I started this book not liking the leading male character, he was a cheater, she deserved better, I was very biased against him. By the end I think I liked him more than the heroine. The heroine was great she was smart, independent, and determined not to fall back into a relationship she wasn't sure she could ever truly trust again. The background characters were great, Dane and Trish were great supporting characters I looked forward to seeing them appear throughout the story.
“Have you been working out Matt?"
“I will never hurt you again. You are my Sunshine. No one can take my sunshine away.”
"Do you crave my touch anymore?”
So the story goes like this. Sunshine Everly loved her husband, in fact she's certain that she still does. Matt Everly loved his wife, but he made a horrible mistake that ruined his marriage. Sunshine swears she will never be able to trust Matt again, how can she give him her heart again when the last time she did he broke it. Matt swears he will do WHATEVER it takes to make her see that they can start again and that they can overcome what they've been through. I loved watching the relationship build back up between these two. They were just sweet you just want so very much for everything to be okay. However while this is going down, and Matt is working to get back into Sunshine's good books murder, secrets and lies attack the small town of Lincoln. At a rather good pace the story unfolds for you and has you guessing over and over again. As I said at the beginning, there were a few times in the book I found myself shaking my head because something I was reading wasn't very realistic, but it was minor enough for it to not really effect the feel of the story for me. Anyways if you enjoy a good case of "Who Done It" pick up this book by Angie Merriam you won't be sorry you did.
I was given an ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.
WARNING: CONTAINS MATURE AND ADULT CONTENT & MAY CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS
This book was wonderful! If you are a fan of suspense/thriller romance, you will love this book!
In the beginning of this book you meet Sunshine and Matt. Sunshine and Matt are divorced, but remain best friends. Matt and Sunshine are high school sweethearts. Matt cheated on Sunshine one time ending their marriage. Matt continues doing everything in his power to court his best friend and prove to her that he still loves her and wants to make up for the one time of infidelity. This is where our killer enters. At first the killer is killing whores that break up marriages. The police are trying to find out who it is. When the killer starts targeting good girls, the whole town gets scared. The twists and turns in this book will constantly keep you guessing on who the killer is. The author did a great job in writing in Sunshine's point of view as well as the killer's point of view. Even with having the killer's point of view, you will never guess who the killer is! Does Sunshine and Matt get back together? Is the killer caught?
This book will have you laughing, crying, and in total shock! Thank you Angie, I look forward to reading more from you!
This was the first book I have read by Ms. Merriam, but I am quite positive it will not be my last. I will admit that when I was asked to read and review this one, I was a little hesitant only because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE romantic suspense and find that I am really picky about them. I am very happy to say that this one definitely delivered in all aspects. I was hooked in the very first chapter and was instantly trying to figure out who did it. Yes I am that person that wants to figure out who the bad guy is as soon as possible and then I can say oh I knew it! This one took me on quite the up and downs. I would think I knew and then I didn't and then the same over and over again. I really love Matt and Sunshine. Like really really love them. Matt is most definitely the "real" kind of guy. I mean he makes a huge mistake and knows he did and admits to it even though it cost him everything. I really respect a writer that can make a hero a real person and still make you fall head over heels in love with him. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be looking into reading her other books. This was a 4.5 AMAZEBALLS stars for me!!
