God I LOVED this. I forgot how much I love comics, graphic novels, webtoons etc.
I will say, the webtoon was better than the series (naturally), as the drama left some major things out and it was a lot different from it’s source material. However, I really like that they’re two separate things that can be equally enjoyed in different ways. IMO the show is not BASED on the webtoon, it’s just inspired by it.
The romance was top tier I’m not even kidding when I say that. Hari’s struggles felt real and the main couple was so tender and loving towards eachother my ass was literally screaming into my pillow. Ahn, you’re hot, but Mr. CEO is on another level, SORRY! Webtoon writers/artist really do hit different. Read this if you’re beyond empty inside and just wanna feel something. It is rated “older teen”, but the spice was still solid and pretty hot tbh.
All in all, this revived my love of graphic novels and I’m already making a list of new ones I wanna read.
I am happy that the series wasn’t stretched into 40+ volumes unnecessarily, but I do wish it was just a tad bit longer. I absolutely loved this entire series. It’s funny with beautiful art, and I don’t care about the “predictable” nature of it all. I loved the story, characters- main and side, and loved the ending, but the final volume saw Yeongsuh and Sunghoon have their baby plus another, Taemu and Hari have twins, the younger brother announces he’ll be getting married, to Taemu and Hari’s tenth anniversary coming up. It’s just far too much in one volume. I still loved it though, but I wish we had maybe another volume or two to break it up rather than it feeling so rushed in this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Everyone got a happy ending! The art is beautiful, the story is just so much fluffy lovely romance. Everyone is the GREENEST of flags! We got the finish of the younger brother side story and went back to our main couple who had some babies!
The only part I didn't like was the dads and brother being overly protective of the daughters. One of them kabedon the guy she likes. SHE IS GONNA BE FINE! Just support her!
This volume featured the epilogues. I loved the first few volumes in this series (especially vol. 3) and had high hopes for this series to be really good, but unfortunately, it went great to silly and boring (although vol. 9 was fun, probably because it was focusing on other characters besides the main 2 couples). I really enjoyed vol. 1-5, 9, and still not sure how I feel about vol. 8. Vol. 6 was boring, vol. 7 was meh and this volume was disappointing. It’s not the people who adapted the novel’s fault considering what they had to work with, in fact, the artist did an amazing job with the characters, they all look so good. I can’t think of a single character that looked bad. I would definitely try other projects that the artist has worked on if it sounds interesting to me.
I’m going to include something from my review of vol. 8 because it applies to the whole series. Explaining one of the biggest reasons why I’m not a fan of the main couples and why I got bored of some of the later volumes. I like my fictional couples to be more than just cute and lovey dovey, there’s got to be something more to it, otherwise they are boring, they are not memorable, and it’s too sweet and annoying for me. In fact, the two main couples felt cartoonish to me and not in a good way, they had no substance to them by the end. Some of my favourite fictional couples are: Noah Wynknight x Raeliana McMillan, Edward Elric x Winry Rockbell, Jinshi x Maomao, Hak x Yona, Arnold Hein x Rishe Weitzner, Motoharu Kaburagi x Satoshi Onoe, etc. Some of these characters have become a couple and are still interesting and fun to read about. So you can see why I’m not a big fan of either of the couples in this series. I liked Hari and Taemu in the first 5 volumes but then they got boring, Hari went from being an interesting and fun female lead to “my only character is that I’m obsessed with my boyfriend,” and I need more from characters to like them and their stories. In fact, in this volume, she’s so pathetic that she can’t even live 5 days without him! Girl! Don’t you have any hobbies besides admiring and sleeping with your husband? Or does your whole life and character revolve around him?😑 I hate these kinds of couples. I hope I don’t end up like her when I find the one. I kind of understand why some people love the secondary couple but they’re just not for me. This series is kind of like Horimiya for me. I loved it in the beginning but once they were an official couple, things got boring and annoying. One of the reasons why I like books, manga and manhwa with unhealthy couples is because they always keep things interesting, not saying that you can’t keep characters in healthy relationships interesting (like Ed x Winry, Kaburagi x Onoe, etc), but it’s just not as common. I also like couples who tease each other a lot. These two and Hari's friend in her relationship are so boring and sickly sweet that you could get diabetes from reading these last few volumes. These kinds of relationships are great in real life (though unrealistic), in books and shows, they're boring and unmemorable. I’m not saying that relationships should be miserable, I’m just saying that there should be more to it. I don’t think Taemu and Hari have ever even had a fight before. This is the first story I’ve read where a couple hasn’t had even one fight. I remember reading comments that they wish they had a guy like Taemu. I don’t, because he will do whatever she wants, that’s not a good thing. Too much PDA, I’m someone who believes these things should be kept private, why can’t you wait until you get home? A little peck on the cheek is fine but that’s about it. I find it gross hearing and seeing these things. When I was in high school, a girl who had a locker next to mine always had her boyfriend go there and they kissed after school every day, not caring that someone was right there. I could hear the kissing noises, it was disgusting, after that I can’t tolerate it near me. So these two kissing and stuff in public was annoying to me. Yes, they didn’t more than kissing and yes I have seen way more in erotic graphic novels and tv shows (and love those series) but it’s still not something I want to see and hear in public places. Despite other women being jealous, I was the opposite. It’s funny how the secondary couple started as the more boring and annoying one, but it ended up being the main couple that was worse. I read a comment for the novel, that they liked the drama better because the characters were more well rounded, so I might give that a shot someday.
As for the other couples, I was hoping that Hamin and that girl would be a love-hate relationship or one with lots of teasing but unfortunately that didn’t happen. I still liked that better than the two main couples but they still didn’t have enough going on with their characters. I felt like grandpa finding a woman was not needed. It felt like the author was scared to leave anyone single, like in Horimiya and Love is an Illusion. I agree that Hamin deserved someone after his heartbreak but I don’t think we had to find someone for Taemu’s grandpa. I’m not sure how I feel about Hari having kids as well. I was hoping that there would be a couple that is married with kids, a couple that is married, a couple that is engaged or thinking about it, and a couple that’s just dating. But like with Love is an Illusion, we didn’t get that. Although, that’s more of a personal thing, so I really can’t fault the author for that. I also think it’s weird that characters in romcoms are so obsessed with their children looking like their partners. Why can’t the kid have a mix or look unique? Maybe I’m thinking too much about that one. It’s still weird how much couples want that and kind of creepy. Although all of the kids are adorable. Still, the only characters I really really liked in this series are Taemu’s grandpa and Hamin.
It is December 26 as I’m writing this review, I finished this volume yesterday (I can’t believe I read something so mediocre on a Christmas night) and thankfully I finished this series before the new year. Funny thing is, I read vol. 1 in January of this year. I don’t usually finish series in the same year but since I only had a few volumes left and wanted to be done with this series, I decided to get it done this year so that I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
After all this, I need to read a non romance book, but I had already decided that I would read certain shojo manga series vol. 1s before the new year as well, so I’m going to watch Bleach Thousand Year Blood War episodes since I’ve read lots of romances lately and I think I’m finally burnt out and need a break from that genre, which I kind of had before vol. 8 but I really need it after this, and I’m pretty sure that watching a bunch of deadly fights and hearing lots of witty banter and fun interactions between characters (many of them my favourites), will be what I need right now and then after a few days or weeks, I can get back into romance and especially 18+ romance again.
perhaps it is time for me to get back into my romcom era because genuinely this was so good? the pipeline went like this kpop demon hunters > ahn hyo seop > omniscient reader > a business proposal (drama) > this.
i loved how different from the drama the webtoon is. sure some of the emotional beats such as the rain and Taemu's grandfather's illness were removed, but i really liked how played up the romance is instead. i was rooting for Hari and Taemu from the beginning and their fake dating that eventually turns real. yes this is PEAK chaebol romance!! okay i admit the story dragged a little when Hari was hesitating on marrying him, but her public proposal to save his reputation was amazing and well worth the wait. honestly i am just really happy that they have their happy ending and family in the end.
the same goes for Yeongsuh and Sunghoon. i can see their appeal and why people think they totally steal the spotlight. the way they communicate is genhinely so healthy (albeit with a few hiccups here and there) and i liked that they were the 'functional' couple throughout most of the story.
i admit that some of the side couples felt a bit much. Chairman Kang and Yeonja felt added in so quickly and a little forced with the chicken deliveries but were still cute. i liked the build up between Secretary Yoon and Suhjin but i wished there was more conclusion to that since his feelings are finally reciprocated.
and honestly my favourite character throughout the manhwa has gotta be Hamin. ngl he was just an annoying brat in the drama, but i loved how his character was development in this so much. his relationship with Hari is always entertaining, and seeing his one sided crush on Yeongsuh is genuinely heartbreaking, especially when he has to let her go.
i just wish they added Yooju in a little earlier. though even in just the last two volumes i really liked how their story progressed. from meeting him crying at the wedding to working part time dressed as a dude at the chicken shop was just so cute?? yes we love bisexual Hamin here and he finally got his happy ending!! power couple expanding the chicken shop into a franchise and getting married is real guys.
4⭐️ ! (For now) Leaving an overall summarized review of it all on this last one because I don't remember sht and I can't divide thoughts by volume, seeing as I read this as episodes. SO fun and heartwarming with low stakes yet not as many dull moments as you would've expected. Loved the 2 main relationships and was able to root for them both individually. I will say though, sometimes characters ( even main ones ) could come across as a bit 1-dimensional from my recollection, but I also may be comparing too much to the drama. I appreciated that love-triangle and unrequited romance subplots wouldn't stretch out an unsseemingly amount of time and that while we waited for Hari and Taemu to get their shit together we had (more quickly established) Yeongseo and Sungwoon to be happy and cute (even tho later on the angst comes in). I love them and their happy families in the end, and this was just overall cute and nice. May reread one day seeing as it's already been 2 years, and I was able to get through all of this in about 2 days. I do wish some plots like marriage and such didn't take as long compared to others but it worked out for the pacing in the long run I think. Loved the art too! Shoutout to Belly for reminding me I read this !
Personally, aside the wedding in vol. 8, I think vol.8-10 are redundant and pure fanservice making sure everything is looped up in a happy ending. Vol. 10 is one big jumpy timeskip mess. In my honest opinion this series should have ended in a thicker vol. 7 with the wedding of both pairs. No nothing about kids, everyone else getting a love interest etc. I'm sorry to sound cynical like that, but story wise it felt dragged out from the beginning of vol.8 onwards. It was so good and fun and it had been a good ending with their marriages and no additional side stories. But these 3 last volumes soured the joy I had from reading the first 7 ones not to mention som dubious choices storywise which could be vied in a negative light depending on how you looked at it. And I'll not forgive the emotional manipulation from vol. 8. I'm sorry I'm jaded. I also don't usually read these kind of stories and I definitely don't read them for the romance but the overall plot/story line. And this one was genuinely fun and good until it wasn't.
***This review was written in 2023 when I originally completed this story, and it is meant to be a review for the series as a whole, not just this volume
I loved this. The beginning was a tad strange, but it really picked up after. Taemu really is the perfect man: he's sweet, upfront with his feelings and really hot (seriously, good job, artist). Oh, and of course, ridiculously wealthy, as is the standard in this genre lol. My one gripe with the manhwa, though, is Hari's brother's love story at the end. I didn't think they did his story justice, he definitely deserved better. And having it after the main couple's story has already ended, with little to no focus on the main couple, didn't do it any favors... (This is the one thing Positively Yours did better, the interweaving of the side characters' romance with the main story). Still, I loved Taemu and Hari's story. My favorite contemporary manhwa by far.
Series plot: After Ha-ri goes on a blind date for a friend, she ends up pursued by said date, CEO Taemu Kang, who won't take "no" for an answer to a marriage proposal.
Hijinks and hilarity, romance and sweetness. I loved the whole series deeply. It was a light treat to read, that left me feeling warm and fuzzy. No high stakes or saving the world. No major conflicts, just popcorn for an overworked brain. The art was a gorgeous treat, to boot. I loved how the characters were drawn. Every character was fun and unique (Grandpa, in particular, always made me grin).
Unfortunately, since I read this episodically through the Tapas app (in English), I can't review each individual volume on its own plot and merits, so I'm doing one review to cover the whole thing.
I really liked getting the conclusion to Hari and Taemu's story. I really liked seeing their story come to a lovely end. However, the start of this volume wasn't my favourite because I didn't care about her brother's romance and if we were going to get another couple I would have loved more of Taemu's grandfather as he made me laugh in the other volumes. I loved the talk about pregnancy and parenthood as it had real emotion behind it. Overall, though I did really enjoy this series, I am glad it has come to an end as for me it was starting to drag ever so slightly. In the end this was a good series ending but also wanted more.
