Rate this book
Sabre Brown’s phone rings at 2 a.m. It’s her brother Ron. After seven years in the Witness Protection Program, someone has discovered his whereabouts, and has tried to kill him. He’s called to warn Sabre that she is in imminent danger.

Sabre and her private investigator, J.P., leave sunny San Diego to search for her brother in the cold, wintry Northwest. They soon discover that the six felons who Ron testified against, have been released, and are being murdered one by one. Ron is the number one suspect.

As Sabre and JP continue to seek Ron’s whereabouts, they have to determine if someone is trying to kill Sabre’s brother or protect him. Or is the unthinkable happening: Has Sabre’s beloved brother, Ron, changed and is he now seeking vengeance? And if so, why?

Sabre and JP race to stop the bullet meant for Ron, stop her brother from firing the next shot, or stop whoever is behind the slaughter. And, before it’s all over, Sabre discovers there may be a bullet with her name on it too.

Hooked on This Series

I am reading these books one after another in order. Usually, I need to take some breaks when reading a series. Each of the Advocate books is so different and new characters are added, so the reader doesn't get bored. This was one of the best to me. I enjoyed the change of scenery. There was a lot of action. I am recommending this book to friends who enjoy mysteries.

Teresa Burrell’s "The Advocate’s Felony" is one of a series of eight books featuring lawyer Sabre Brown. In this episode, Sabre is blasted out of a blissful sleep by a phone call at 2:00 am from her brother, Ron. Having given evidence against a number of wise guys, all serving lengthy sentences, Ron is in the Witness Protection Program. Problem is, someone has caught up with him and has murder on their mind. Ron fears that Sabre and their mother might also be in the firing line and he tells her to leave immediately, drive to their mother’s place and vanish — their lives depend on it. Sabre doesn’t take too much convincing and in the early hours she leaves her home in San Diego and heads off to warn her mother. Sabre has a boyfriend, “JP,” a private investigator and later the two of them commence searching for Ron who they believe is hiding out in the wintry Northwest. It is on this journey they discover that the six gangsters Ron testified against have been released and are being murdered one by one. Could Ron, the person on the run, actually be their killer? Or is some Good Samaritan looking out for him? And if so, why? As the story unfolds the answers to these perplexing questions become clear but there are many twists and turns along the way.

You would expect the sixth book in a series of eight to be of high standard. After all, the author has by that time become intimately acquainted with the principal characters. This book disappointed in a couple of small aspects, however, in that I didn’t have a clear mental picture of what the characters looked like. This could well have been because they have been described so often before in earlier books but this was the first one I have read and there might be many readers in the same position. I also found that in some cases the dialogue of certain characters sounded the same, as though emanating from the one person. Despite these relatively minor peccadillos the novel is otherwise well crafted and I was hooked straight into the story from the outset. "The Advocate’s Felony" is written in a no-nonsense, straightforward style that I found easy to read and I never lost track of each character’s role as the story unfolded. Visually, I could effortlessly keep up with the action in each scene. It’s an intriguing story, a real adventure and author Teresa Burrell keeps you guessing until virtually the end.

This latest book in Teresa Burrell's Advocate's series is narrated by John Bell. Her heroin Attorney  Sabre Brown receives a call from her brother who has been in Witness Protection for the last 7 years. He believes someone knows where he is and that they are trying to kill him. Apparently he has been moved around the country from place to place trying to stay safe and hidden. After the latest incident he is on the run. He doesn't trust those protecting him any longer. So Sabre has to juggle her defence of children in juvenile court as well as find and protect her brother. Since no one can know where he is, including Sabre, she must use her Nancy Drew like Skills and her trusty Private Investigator J.P. to find where her brother Ron is hiding. Unfortunatly She is not the only person looking for Ron. Apparently every where he has been moved people connected to his case have been found murdered. Some in law enforcement believe Ron is the killer, Sabre must save her brother and prove his innocence without getting killed herself. This is by far the most thrilleresque book in the series. All the books have been great mysteries with danger and intrigue but this one takes Sabre and crew to a new level. I enjoyed listening to this book and narrator John Bell did a good job telling the stories. This is the first time a Male narrator has been used in this series, and maybe that did raise the level of intrigue in the listening, but I have to say I prefer hearing a female voice narrating this series. Overall the author was kept me interested in the characters and I am ready for the next book where there might be a little romance in store for Sabre Brown. I will have to wait and see.

This book was given to me as a gift for an honest review all six of Teresa Burrell's Advocate's series are available at Audible.com and reviews are available at PerryMartinBookReviews.Wordpress.com

The major thing I found to fault about this book is that it is the sixth in a series - now I have to go find the first five! It is a quick read, well written, featuring a female attorney who specializes in children's issues. It stands alone as a good read because there is little carryover from the earlier books. Burrell created a delightful pushy female who is not afraid of much but shows her ineptness in various ways. The book opens with the heroine, Sabre Brown, being awakened from deep sleep - something that happens often in her defense of children's rights - but this time the caller is her missing brother who has been in the witness protection program since he testified against mobsters and sent them to prison. He refuses to tell her where he is but pleads with her to get their mother to a safe place since his identity has been compromised. A scary situation indeed because the mobsters are getting out of prison.
Sabre and her brother use games with coded information from their childhood and now both are on the run. No more information! A great book. I received a review copy from Goodreads.

The Advocate Series [1-6]

I just completed #6 and each story is better than the last. I like Sabre and her friends and her "children" she is appointed to defend their rights. Our Children need to be taken care of while the circumstances involved is worked out for all parties. This is a good series and gives great courtroom drama most of don't ever see in regular courtroom s.. Try this series and start where you like but I prefer to start at the beginning so I don't miss anything..

I love the Advocate series and this book does not disappoint. I don't feel like I can say much without giving away any spoilers but if you have enjoyed the other books in the series, you must pick this one up.

The story line is phenomenal. The character build up is real good and the most interesting part was the Tuper character & the peek into the Hutterite community because it was new and different.

But I really can't tolerate the teasing and non romance between Sabre & JP. It's boring and it's pretty irritating when you find yourself reading the same line over and over again after every 50 pages, where someone else or other is mentioning "everyone can see you guys have something going on there" or stuff like that for the last 3 books.

Also, just because it's the Advocate's Series, doesn't mean it has to be named after that where the advocate Sabre has little to do in the entire plot ; the story line is completely based on Ron (Sabre's brother) and JP is the main character in 90% of the book. All Sabre does is hanging around with JP and eventually ended up with shooting someone.

To summarize, the story line is fantastic, but can't give more than 3 stars because of :
- boring chemistry between Sabre & JP and
- name of the book has nothing to do with the story line

The Advocate's Felony: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 6), my sixth read from author Teresa Burrell. An 8-hour 21,-minute/323-page legal thriller featuring Sabre Brown as a child advocate attorney whose taste in men appears to be improving. John Bell's narration adds to an excellent book's enjoyment. Each book is complete although questions are posed that lead a reader to believe they'll be addressed in future books. “I received a free a free Audible copy and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I own 11 of this author's works in this series and look forward to reading more, The Advocate's Geocache: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 7) is next on my TBR list. I guess I'm on amission to read all the books I own in the series, they're that good! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

The Advocate’s Felony follows the characters from the Advocate series, but this book is a bit different. Instead of focusing on the courtroom and the children in the lawyer’s cases, this book centers around Sabre’s brother who has been in witness protection. The story has a lot of action and twists and turns along with interesting characters and settings.

There is a new male narrator for this audiobook, and while the old female narrator was not my favorite, it did take a bit of getting use to the new voice. He does a good job with reading the story and giving the characters voices, though I feel like he does tend to make them sound a bit old.

Keeps cranking out winners

Wow. Mr Burrell just keeps writing good stories to fill this series. Here she takes the Advocate out of the court where she takes on children's best interests. After getting a frantic warning call from her beloved brother who has been in WITSEC's protection program, Sabre takes her mother and runs to her safety zone. From there the action begins and it carries out till the end. Really entertaining read. All her books are clean of typos and grammar errors, which is another plus.

This book is #6 in the series-----I am going to read the books that came before and the ones that are after it.

Yes the book has a lot of chapters but it is a non-stop roller coaster ride that also has twists and turns that I should have seen coming.

I already figured out who Gina was early on---and wanted to see where she was up to.

OK I admit it----I like Tuper and JP.

If you are looking for a story with mystery, history, great characters, a dog, and a mix of situations this is the book for you.

I wouldn't exactly call this a "legal thriller". There is a small amount of legal drama, but it has zero to do with the main plot of the story. It was just ok, I really think 2.5 stars would have been more appropriate. Perhaps I was disappointed after recently reading a legal book by Aime Austin which had a very realistic account of the legal processes.
I know jumping into the sixth book in a series can be difficult, but I just didn't see the character development that would make me interested and involved with the characters in the story. I was bored.

This was a rather long tale of a man fleeing because he feared the mob members he sent to prison were after him. He got his sister involved when he told her to leave town with her mother because he was afraid that they too would be killed. Of course, his sister didn't listen to him and got even more in danger.
It was a very detailed story that described blow-by-blow, all the action. For me, it was a bit too detailed! Perhaps other readers would appreciate it more.

A good read.

This is another good story with Sabre, JP and Bob. Sabre gets a call from her brother Ron that sparks off a series of events. Why is he on the run having been in WITSEC? It is up to Sabre and JP to find out what is going on and why mobsters are being shot at every place Ron has stopped at.
We also get introduced to Tuper who assists them in their quest but is a dark as to who he is.
I enjoyed this story from a reliable author.

A stubborn sister saves the day !

Save a gets a call from out of the blue from her brother who has been in the witness protection program for 7 years telling her to take their mom and get out of town. This cryptic call sets her on a convoluted journey of danger and confusion. Good story with interesting characters and lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed it from beginning to end.

Full of unexpected moments

I discovered this Teresa Burrell series this summer and have read Books #1-6. I enjoy the interaction of the 3 lead characters. I’m intrigued by how the author is able to create multiple plot lines and weave them together with unexpected twisting turns. Sabre has uncanny ability to get herself into serious/dangerous predicaments. The endings always have an unexpected moment On to Book #7.

Fun mystery

Advocate's Felony takes place in Montana, Idaho, and Arizona, but not near civilization, way out in the wilderness. Saber and JP try to save her brother, Ron from gangsters which leads to many interesting altercations, including being rescued by sp? Huttonites. Highly recommended. Read the series beginning with the first book. This is a great series.

Great story and characters.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I'm no good as a reviewer because I can never think of anything to say, but if you like stories with some action, a little romance, likeable characters and plenty of plot twists, Ms. Burrell delivers

The Advocate’s Felony is action teamed with humor

A great book filled with a good bit of action, family humor and outside groups that built a fast moving story with some surprises thrown in. Involving people other than criminals and law enforcement added to the mix bringing some family values into play. An enjoyable book.

I enjoyed the book! Author Teresa Burrell is a master in creating a storyline, plot, and believable characters! I loved the "word pictures" of one of the characters. Kind of makes you want to be able to describe situations and feelings the same way.
Because of her knowledge in law, and working with children and an interest in where geography the story is set, you have a very believable read.

Another 3.5 rounded up. I enjoy this series, and like the characters (though they are not as fully developed as I would like). The main character lives in San Diego, so it is nice to recognize some of the place names! I was glad to see the introduction of a new character, Tuper, who I believe has a spinoff series. I am definitely going to look into reading those as well.

Too long. Too predictable.

The plot dragged on forever. If JP wasn't dummed down by the author he would have found the tracking device earlier! Every book is the same: Sabre doesn't listen yet manages to save the day and learns nothing from it. This series is like a Cozy mystery with more guns. Blech.

I absolutely love Teresa Burrell's books. She has become my favorite author. Her books are exciting, well-written and wholesome. I hate books that are sexually explicit, and Teresa's books are good and don't need the sex scenes! So far I've read all six of the Advocate series. Well done Teresa. Keep them coming.

Good vs evil

All the characters are likeable even some of the bad guys. Some bad guys are good guys or posing as good guys. Almost want to be sympathetic toward them but there is the occasional thought that they may not be who you they think they are. Good read.
