Cam Shaw is an out-of-work ghost writer who places an ad in the newspaper looking for a new client. When she gets a reply and meets the client, she gets more than she bargained for. She's thrown into a 60-year-old mystery, but somebody doesn't want the truth to come out, and they are willing to go to any lengths to keep that from happening...even if it means killing Cam.
I’m the daughter of a semi-retired Methodist minister, and have spent most of my life living in Texas and New Mexico (no, I am not a native Texan; I was born in the state of Washington). I graduated from West Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in 2000. I taught school for a couple of years before realizing that I really wanted to spend my time writing.
I’m a daughter, mother, wife, sister, granddaughter. Currently, I live in North Texas with my husband, and my son has gone off to college. I have a wicked sense of humor and find almost anything funny.
That’s about it. If there is something else you want to know, ask me!
This was a fun book in that many people could actually see the ghost in question. In fact, not only could they see him and talk to him, they all accepted him without running out of the house screaming! Apparently these people are pretty accepting of things they don't understand!
Cam Shaw is a ghost writer, and has advertised for work when she is requested to go to the Ashton house for an interview. Only it turns out the one who wants to hire her doesn't understand that a ghost writer writes a book for another person, and is not a person who deals with ghosts! However Cam is intrigued, and in the guise of writing about this family, decides to try and figure out who killed Stanley Ashton III.
From this point, Cam researches and uncovers more questions than answers. She also ticks off the Chief of Police (a friend of hers) when she steps on his toes during investigations. Learning about a death that took place more than a half century ago is difficult, but fortunately Cam has a research librarian, a physic, her best friend, the former police Chief (who happens to be the current one's grandfather) and her grandmother (a friend of the Ashton family at the time) to help her out. As the bodies mount up, the explosions and trips to the hospital also increase. Soon police Chief Penhall (Mike) and Cam have joined forces as he struggles to keep her from getting killed as well.
Some major twists and surprises await as you race to find out how all the pieces fit together! This cozy mystery is great fun to read and has some distinct qualities you won't find in other mysteries. I like the way the author made Cam a strong person, but not a stupid one who ignored advice and warnings. Interesting reading and one that I am happy to recommend.
Camille was a ghost writer in desperate need of a job. Then she gets a mysterious note asking her to come to a house about a job. Thing was that house had a haunting mystery. Oooh!
She goes there and meets the man that wants to hire her—only he’s been dead for 60 years. Yikes! Great, now she’s talking to a ghost—and a chauvinistic, arrogant one at that. The ghost claimed that he never shot himself—he was murdered, and he wanted Camille to solve it. For some reason, a ghost from the 1950’s thought a ghost writer dealt with…you know…ghosts.
The mystery was set: who killed the ghost in the library?
Looking into the old murder sounded interesting at first, but then it tapers off as you get more involved in it. Turns more into her helping him resolve his unfinished business rather than figuring out who killed the guy.
I received a free copy of this book from the author herself in return for a review. I enjoyed it very much! A very fun and fast cozy that is easy to follow, yet has you guessing and trying to solve the mystery. I also loved the paranormal aspect to it with a ghost wanting to have his murder solved. That was a nice and unique twist. I hope she will write another novel with the same characters, because I would like to read more about them, and see what's in store for them! I also want to mention that I read this book with two of my favorite book buddies and they also enjoyed it, so I believe I can speak for all three of us bookworms when I say we would recommend this book!
Not a bad book. I am not big on mysteries, but I do occasionally read them, and this one was a solid, funny, different version. I would recommend to anyone who likes the supernatural and mysteries in one fun combination.
This all started when Cam posted an add trying to get more work as a ghost writer. The back story on the house is pretty standard for a mystery I feel. family missing without a trace no one’s know what really happened, a man was murder no one knows what really happened. This books kicks off fast with Aggie and Stanley the 3rd living on the property in question. The banter is pretty funny because it’s a 1950 ghost going on about 1950s things. And between mother and daughter and friends. Cams grandma quickly became my favorite character with her always trying to leave the house in manipulating ways. 8 chapters in there’s another murder which was a twist I wasn’t prepared for but clearly someone doesn’t want the murder of Stanley the 3rd solved. This book is as a whirlwind of mystery and the most important people to the case cam is working on were already dead, killed or went missing. There are so many twist and turns it made my head spin. There’s also a weird love triangle between cam, Mike and Randy. And the ending was chef kissing I never say it coming. And I will definitely be checking out the second book because this one ends on a bit of a cliff hanger.
This cozy mystery was exciting and a love story too. After starting to read this I thought, “oh, this is a waste of time”, but I was wrong. This story had all of the excitement, love and mystery you expect in a cozy mystery. Cam’s best friend and part time employer, Randy, was a rock for Cam through her trials and he stood up to protect her from the Chief of Police 👮♀️, Mike. Mike and Randy had some type of secret or understanding that we did not learn about in this book but I’m sure it is a secret that may come in a follow up book. I enjoyed ready this book 📖 and look forward to more great reads from this new author.
Yes, there was a ghost in the library, but the fact that he had been dead for sixty years did not make him any less "alive". Stanley certainly did not behave as if he was dead. I enjoyed reading this story, the characters were great, Cam was a riot, so was her grandma. I couldn't quite understand Randy 's relationship with Cam, didn't really buy into the " loving like a brother" relationship, his devotion felt deeper. I liked Mike so, I was not sorry when he declared his hand. I enjoyed reading this book, the only fault I had with it was that I felt it could have ended long before it did, the initial suspense sort of waned. I kept reading because I liked the characters and wanted to continue spending time with them.
Camille Shaw is hired in error by a ghost who assumes that a ghostwriter is a "ghost writer" and asks her to solve a mystery from a bygone time. With the help of her friends, Cam sets out to solve an ancient cold case.
I really wanted to like this story, and some parts of it did work for me. The ghost was an actual character who had a personality that tracked with his history. The other characters held their own, each with his or her individual quirks and traits. However, the bickering between the friends felt forced and eventually grew irritating. Additionally, there was so much violence - it felt as though something was blowing up every time the main character turned around. I may read the next one in the series, but I'm not in a hurry to revisit this group of people.
The book surprised me by being really interesting and engrossing; I expected something silly and somewhat half assed do to there being a literal ghost in the story. However, it was lacking in any twee, having instead a solid plot, likeable, intelligent characters and the kind of scandal that small towns are known for and a ghost that was not there to be a Deus Ex Machina. It did, however, need another read through by someone who was unfamiliar with the story as the characters wasted a lot of time wondering why one character did something when they had already been told why by that character. Some 20 or 30 pages later another character said "Well we know she did *insert thing they were wondering about for the previous chapter* because of XYZ."
A reader confused me with this author. I am also Teresa Watson and write as Terry H Watson. I was intrigued to see what my namesake wrote, and read Who Killed the Ghost in the Library? It was a fun book, a page turner with good characterisation. I figured out 'who dun it' quite early on but it did not spoil the enjoyment of the story.
I was intrigued as to how a ghost would be with an amature detective but found it very good. It made me laugh and kept me wondering about the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone as it has a nice mix. I do hope she writes another and can't wait to read it when she does.
A fun and engaging read. I like paranormal books that remind me of the Ghost and Mrs Muir--though this one is a murder mystery. The characters are great--ghost and human. The plot runs at an easy pace with a twist thrown in. I enjoyed this book so much.
I read the book all the way through. I enjoyed the basic plot. However, I found it to be monotonous. I don't like being g critical because I have no talent as a writer.
I've read this book before which means a lot for me. More actual talking among the characters which kept me turning the pages late into the night. Loved the candlestick involvement....
I really enjoyed this book.there were really cute parts that made me smile n/or laugh. I appreciate that! I like how intricate the story was to leave u a lil in the dark. It wasn't too much of anything. It was just the right mix. Thanks!
A fun, page-turning read. It played a bit loose with the facts, but it kept me engaged (and hungry - every chapter seemed to involve food!). I'll definitely be checking out others in the series.
I really enjoyed this story, great idea for a ghostwriter to write for ghosts! Lots of twists, good characters and fun background history! Good job author!
