Before diving into this book I really recommend to check the Trigger Warning List. If I have to choose a book about psychological madness and a “perfect” state/facade outside of insanity for the people who interact with, this book is the winner. I think this book is a good example for studying this field.
This book is insane!!! It follows the story of Miles and Kate, they know each other from the people who work for. Miles is Ana’s bodyguard, the girlfriend of Charlie who Kate is working for. They know each other and thirst over themselves for a while and the tension is insane!! But it’s not a simple age gap love story. Miles is actually a stalker who pins Kate for a while, even blackmailing her with pictures about her affair and from this point it becomes at each page more crazy.
Miles is really unhinged. Not just a simple stalker, but worse. The darkness is his second mask, he embraces it and can’t really control it. He doesn’t respect some boundaries and it kinda terrifies me.
Kate is as worse as Miles (ok not really that bad BUT her mind is). She fell hard for Miles, accepts everything from him and becomes obsessed with him. She embraces his dark urges and sometimes I wanted to scream at her for some bullshit she believes in.
The thing she annoyed me with the most it was when Miles needed to kill a witness and he refused but she took care of it until Miles really decided to do it. Then she went crazy, afraid that Miles wanted to finally kill the witness and maybe he wouldn’t come back. This moment she was on my nerves like I got her but girl you urged him to finally make the move.
They are really complicated people. She struggles with alcoholism and he is a psychopath. Both of them don’t have a family but they find each other in their madness. I love the flow of the story, the storyline went really well (the context was great, the details on point). The epilogue made me mad omg I was hoping for progress for evolution for both of them to heal but no I was shocked.
The best way to describe this book would be horrifyingly exhilarating. Like this book had so much messed up stuff, I was not only disgusted and horrified by what happened in this book, but also horrified that I kept on reading and thought it was good. It was very clear that they are two incredibly fucked up people, who have insanely intense sadism and cnc kinks, and there’s nothing wrong with that had they not been so fucked up. I try not to swear in my reviews, but at this point messed up can’t even cover the level of dark stuff in this book. Both of these characters look fine to the outside world, but Kate is an alcohol addict that feels hollow inside and happens to have a very morally dark, serial killer of an obsessed stalker. In terms of stalking I actually wouldn’t call him super extreme level, it’s the fact that he loses control very easily. And I’m gonna say this once, the safe word is ignored because he loses himself to that dark space in his mind, it’s no excuse but I’m putting it out there, this book is pitch black. It’s like there’s this monster inside Miles, that bless his soul he tries so hard to control but can’t. In a way it’s very sad, or maybe it’s just me sympathising with red flag characters again. My one problem or the thing that makes this book crazy is that Kate doesn’t get character development, she drops, she becomes absolutely insane. I mean it to the point where she doesn’t care if he’s killing innocent people just as long as he continues to be with her. And she keeps provoking his “monster side” to the point where I felt really bad for him because he’s trying so hard. But because of his past his self esteem is very low, and I guess I appreciate Kate accepting him for who he is. Sometimes I feel like he's not that bad, like he’s obviously terrible but he at least feels bad about what he does, I’m wrong. I get brutal reminders every time that I'm wrong. Like there are some things that I find out at the end that make me go, wow this man is insane and rethink the entire story. Like I think he’s terrible at covering her tracks, but what if.. he went not to… So yeah this book was a crazy ride and I’m really still processing it, but it’s a ⅘ for me, just because of the mind blowing experience
Book 3 in the Forbidden Blooms series: Miles and Kate. This is an interconnected standalone, age gap (42/27) bodyguard, substances abuse rep (alcohol), CNC, childhood neglect past, morally black MMC, morally grey FMC, OTT MMC, touch her and d!e, stalker romance. Kate, having an accomplishing career struggles to cope with the stresses of life and leans heavily on alcohol to cope. While being on the road with Miles for work having a flirty work relationship, she hopes for more but didn’t expect what happened next… To say Miles is over the top is an understatement and Kate soon learns not only does she crave that but she also relates to it. They were perfectly matched for eachother darkness. Definitely a fast paced read with a lot of spice. A great read and will continue this series.
Okay Cassandra you done it again!! I cannot believe the perfect miles and Kate relationship! I need to find me a miles asap a stalker daddy with some primal urges yes please 😭. Sweet miss kate so sweet and precious with a drinking problem in the beginning that starts all of this 😏. He stalks her to make sure she’s safe and she his long before she gives the okay! And he will go at all lengths to get what is his!
His Yellow Hyacinth is a dark over the top age gap romance between Kate and Miles. Both have some secrets and tragic pasts they are hiding from. When they come together, their chemistry explodes. Their broken pieces fit together and they learn to love and support each other.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Four stars for me! If you are a fan of the Netflix series You, then this book might be perfect for your TBR. It was dark, twisty, and like all great dark romances had me questioning if I should go back to therapy. This isn’t a cheesy dark romance, this is the story of obsession and two broken people who can’t/won’t fix each other and yet still somehow love each other. I found this to be very raw and it made the story even more compelling.
There were parts I liked and parts that I felt dragged a bit. Overall I did like the setup and appreciated that the flawed nature of both characters was not brushed over.
The hold this story had on me from start to finish. My god, I went through a roller coaster of emotions. I felt like I was on the edge of my seat as I read through their story. Miles & Kate have chemistry they seem to walk around at first, until Kate needs his help. When they give in to their feelings for one another, that’s it they’re both all in. When certain demons and secrets come out, it’s a battle between them to try and figure out where to go from there. We also get to see old characters from previous books, which I always love - they seem like a little found family in a way. Miles and Kate are really just two broken pieces that found one another, and fit together perfectly. They see the best in one another and know what the other needs, and they’re both willing to do what it takes to make sure it happens. Their love is raw and toxic, but most of all it’s real.
This book was one that you can’t help but read all the way through ‘cause of how intriguing it is. The way it was written has like a push and pull element there’s moments where they have you questioning “what am I reading?” And then you just get sucked in. It was an odd feeling but not negative.
One thing I will say for anyone reading this book is to please please check the trigger warnings because there is many in this book if you are not comfortable with that.
This book is considered dark romance which I am personally okay with but it is darker than the ones I’ve read before which I was like “woah.” But again I was in a good head space to read it so it was all good.
The main characters for this book had a charming way of bringing you in and wanting to understand them especially since they both struggled a lot with their personal issues and mind sets. I did feel bad a lot for Kate since she was pushing through and fighting with things that felt comfortable for her or kept her grounded although it wasn’t the safest vice out there.
Miles was also struggling with a lot especially when it came to what he liked to do in his free time. I also felt bad for him because he really didn’t like himself and didn’t like what he was which was I guess understandable. Mainly cuz his actions had me shocked at times.
I really did like how they were two very flawed characters so it brought an element of wanting to understand them or at least understand why they acted the way they did.
Cassandra Vega doesn’t just tell stories—she creates living, breathing characters and then sets them loose in a world of shadows, desire, and dangerous devotion.
His Yellow Hyacinth is a hypnotic blend of psychological suspense and unflinching emotional vulnerability. Kate is unraveling. Haunted by trauma and teetering on the edge, she’s a portrait of quiet desperation. And then there’s Miles—who doesn’t appear by accident. He stalks her. Watches her. Wants her. But when he steps in to “save” her, it feels both invasive and intoxicating. His protection is possessive. His care is controlling. And somehow, it works.
Miles isn’t just morally grey—he’s enigmatic, obsessive, and steeped in shadows. His dominance and devotion are both red flags and green flags wrapped into one. Vega wields tropes like breath play, age gap, mental health rep, and power dynamics, but also dives into the deeper, darker waters of consensual non-consent (CNC) and somnophilia. These elements are handled with unnerving intensity and deliberate nuance, never glorified, but explored as extensions of emotional trauma and trust.
The suspense coils tightly around the romance, with every chapter pulsing with tension—both psychological and physical. You’re never quite sure what Miles is capable of—until you are.
Mile’s and Kate’s relationship is obsessive, filled with magnetic chemistry, and altogether unforgettable. Vega never romanticizes their brokenness—she lays it bare and lets you decide how deep you’re willing to sink.
If you’re drawn to the murky edges of love and the kind of tension that leaves you breathless, His Yellow Hyacinth is your next obsession.
A huge, HUGE thank you to Cassandra Vega for the early copy! I am obsessed with the stories she writes - they are filled with raw vulnerability that bleeds between the lines leaving you absolutely wrecked.
Oh lord, where do I even start? I am flabbergasted and have no words. I know I shouldn’t condone Miles’ behavior but come on! I may as well be in Kate’s shoes bc who doesn’t have demons in their closet? This is the story of Kate, who works for Charlie, a famous rockstar. His girlfriend is Ana, who has her own bodyguard named Miles. And that’s how Kate and Miles know each other, by working alongside each other.
Kate is struggling with life and the choices she makes when she goes out, while Miles just pays attention to her. Makes sure she is okay and keeps an eye on her whenever they are out with their respective parties. It’s obvious these two have so much tension between each other but no one wants to make the first move without feeling embarrassed.
However, Miles is done waiting around for Kate and realizes that she is sinking deeper into her demons and needs someone to pull her out before it’s too late. He gets a little creative and Kate ends up having him as her own bodyguard 🤭
These two literally compliment each other in the sense that they are two broken people who rely on one another. There are trigger warnings at the beginning of the book so you can fully understand what this book is about. At times, it can get intense, but in the best possible way ever :) Another great aspect of the book is the dual point of views from both Miles and Kate. I love reading both of their inner monologues, especially when they are together !!
Thank you to the author for this gifted review copy. I really enjoyed this story!
This is definitely the darkest one by Cassandra Vega that I’ve read and I love that. lol if dark romance isn’t your thing, this probably isn’t the story for you…but if you like brooding, eerily quiet men with Scandinavian heritage who have questionable morals at best? And women who make you wonder if stability is a subjective thing? This is perfect!!!
Miles was not exactly what I was expecting but he reminded me a lot of Alexander Skarsgård and I adore him, so this was good for me. I was gasping, shaking my head, and “oh my gosh” ing almost the entire book! It was…INTENSE!
I really felt for both Miles and Kate. Addiction and childhood trauma are so important to shed light on, and while it wasn’t pretty, the hardest stuff never is. It felt…beautiful in a way that’s kind of hard to describe accurately. The best way I can think to say it is two quotes directly from the book.
“I masked it perfectly. That’s the thing about anxiety and depression: You can’t always see it, especially when you’re skilled at hiding the pain. So no one ever really knew.”- Miles
“And maybe that’s what real love is. Not the promise of light. But the quiet, unshakable truth that even in the dark, you stay.”- Kate
I liked this one better than book 2 (his nightshade) but not as much as book 1 (his red carnation)! Readers should definitely refer to content warnings for His Yellow Hyacinth-there’s some HEAVY stuff in there.
Have you read stalker/kidnapping type books where the FMC eventually says, "Why didn't you just tell me you liked me? I would have dated you the normal way!"? Well - this story is what it's like when the unhinged stalker MMC gets the girl the "normal" way and she goes into everything willingly.
Here, the MMC is morally dark grey to black - he's a murderer, but he usually only kills people who "deserve it." The FMC knows him from their jobs, and instead of being stalked and kidnapped, she falls for him, darkness and all. There are so many twists and turns, and the MCs are forced to confront their darkness at every step.
I loved the use of some BDSM aspects here - and the safeword and its use are very well done. While I don't usually seek out CNC in particular, those scenes were very spicy and enjoyable, and the consent is clearly outlined (no dubcon/NC here). The somno scenes are SO GOOD. Again, clearly outlined consent, but the helplessness aspect is emphasized as well.
Trigger-wise, aside from the tropes above, there is some drugging and plenty of alcohol use, so be aware of that before reading.
Overall, a unique story with a fun twist on familiar tropes, and very well written.
Thanks to the ARC team for an advance copy of this book!
Check your trigger warnings. Some dark and twisted scenes.
I am obsessed with this triliogy! Yellow Hyacinth is book 3 of the Forbidden Blooms Triliogy. I couldn't get enough of Miles and Kate. Miles is Anna's bodyguard, and Kate is Charlie's manager. They meet during Charlie's tour and develop an attraction to each other.
Miles needs to have her, but he harbors dark secrets. One that makes him into a monster that he can't control. She harbors her own demons, drowing them with alcohol, one night stands, and overall bad decisions. They are both broken and perfect for each other.
He is 15 years older than her and is not only obsessed with her but protective. If someone hurts her or even touches her, Miles will unleash his monster on them. Kate craves his darkness, but he tries to keep that side of himself under control, not wanting to hurt her. She loves pushing him because she desires and needs his dark side. They complete and need each other.
Miles ends up getting into trouble, and Kate can't picture her life without him. She will do anything to save him. This read is full of dark, spicy, and even touching moments. I loved every moment!
More than ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this was definitely my type of read! The spice! Miles and Kate may be seen as toxic, but their love and intimacy towards each other are definitely perfect for their relationship! He gives into her desires and every steamy fantasy🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶!
If you love a morally grey/bordering on pitch black MMC, possessive, age-gap, trauma-filled romance… THIS BOOK IS IT.
Miles & Kate work around each other. Kate works for the famous rock star, and Miles is the rockstars girlfriend’s bodyguard (she’s the former First Lady, if you’ve read the 2nd book in this series, you know her and the rockstar)
They exchange flirtatious words every now and then but never go too far. Until Miles can’t take it anymore. He stalks her, puts cameras up in her place, & stops at nothing to keep her safe. She falls for him, & falls hard. They both have demons they work hard to suppress, but can they accept each other for who they truly are?!
They are two pieces of a broken puzzle, and together it’s them against the world!
“Kate belonged to me. The idea of her leaving made something tighten in my chest, something dark and violent.” “She saw me—really saw me. Not just the mask I wore for the world, but the man beneath it.”
SUPER STEAMY!!! Please check the trigger warnings before reading. Some scenes get intense (but in the best possible way).
Twistedly dark, emotionally deepening and morally black ride!
Miles moves through Kate’s life like a shadow she can’t escape—quiet, watchful, always there. His fixation runs deep, unsettling in its intensity, but Kate refuses to see it for what it is. She's mesmerized, ignoring every instinct that tells her to run. As his grip tightens and his secrets begin to surface, Miles finds himself in serious trouble with the law. That should be her wake-up call. Instead, Kate digs in deeper—willing to cross any line to keep him close, even as the walls start closing in.
This isn't a love story in the traditional sense—it's a collision. Two fractured people, drawn together not to mend each other, but to feed a need neither fully understands. Their connection isn’t clean or comforting; it’s messy, obsessive, and impossible to shake. The relationship simmers slowly, built on tension and quiet, intimate moments that feel painfully honest. Gritty, unflinching, and unapologetically dark, this story doesn't just draw you in—it consumes you.
If you are a fan of the show YOU - this is right up your alley, but laced with more darkness.
What a way to end the series. Here we are just slowly learning the different shades of grey that are available. Yet Cassandra Vega managed to write 3 different shades. We slowly got darker and darker. I was thinking ok, no one was going to top Charlie. That man was unhinged. Nope. No, I was wrong. Miles entered the chat and taught me a lesson. Ok my good sir, I am sat and listening!!!
Author Cassandra Vega has really been upping her writing style and darkness level. I appreciate how this series has progressed but I wasn’t thinking this book would be so dark. It was exactly what I wanted but I had to take a moment to sit back and applaud Cassandra on this progress! I was in love with Charlie and still am, but Miles just walks in and owns this place. Please do check the trigger warnings as their smut times are dark. I personally have read darker topics but I do not want anyone going into this thinking it’ll be a light read. The smut is very smutty! But for all my dark romance lovers, we gonna love it!!
Oh Cassandra, thank you for this delicious read!!! You will catch my CNC review soon!
I received this book as an arc reader and absolutely enjoyed it. This is my second book by Cassandra and she did not disappoint. This is a dark story so check your triggers as there are some themes and moments that come up. With that, get ready to see how two people fall in love in the most unhinged way and expect yourself to just be immersed in them. Kate and Miles are both in dark places and find love and understanding in that. I loved being able to see characters from the earlier books as it adds a layer of comfort throughout the story. Going into the book, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the ending and the epilogues were just the perfect way to end the story as it doesn’t take the turn you would want it to take. I liked that story doesn’t go the direction you hoped for as I felt the flow of the story was to show how dark and dysfunctional both Kate and Miles were. And in their twisted way, they got their happily ever after, we, as the readers, are left with the emotional damage of their love.
The best way to describe this book? Unhinged. Hot. Beautifully written. (And did I mention absolutely unhinged?)
We’ve got a damaged duo here: Miles (42) and Kate (27), both deeply traumatized, both obsessively drawn to each other. They meet through "work," and the thirst is instant and intense. The tension? Off. The. Charts. But it doesn’t stop there…
Miles isn’t just dark, he’s pitch black. He stalks Kate relentlessly, watching her 24/7. His desires are twisted and all-consuming. And Kate? She’s so obsessed with Miles, she’s blind to the giant red flags waving in her face. When Miles ends up in legal trouble, Kate will do anything to keep him by her side.
Tropes you’ll find:
Age gap
Stalking
“Touch her and ☠️”
Over-the-top obsessive MMC
CNC
I really enjoyed this book. It’s fast-paced, unique, and deliciously dark. Best of all? It ends exactly when it needs to. No dragging, no filler, just pure, twisted intensity from start to finish.
His Yellow Hyacinth is book three of the Forbidden Blooms Series.
Miles is a bit of a wildcard. He meets Kate while they are working on a music tour together. He wants her and will do whatever necessary to keep her in his life. He does a lot of sketchy things to accomplish this goal. But we also see how protective and caring he is towards Kate. There are some bad moments, so read trigger warnings before reading. However, even with his crazed thoughts and actions, his one main goal is protecting Kate.
Kate is going through a lot and doesn't know how to cope the best with her situation. She relies heavily on alcohol to get through life. She needed someone who would be there to help her through this and that is what Miles did. Did he cause her some setbacks with his actions. Yes, but he also then helped to propel her further ahead.
There is a lot to this story, but it didn't feel overwhelming. You really get immersed in this story.
Reading this I found myself exhilarated and disgusted at the same time. This series has a way of finding the best and the worst in people and having them find the crazy that matches their own crazy. Miles and Kate were no exception to this. On the surface they both appear to be perfectly normal, functioning adults... until we get to know them and see they are both spicy disasters. The book is dark, the tropes are dark, the triggers are dark, and morally gray may be a bit of an understatement. However, the chemistry between these two is undeniable. I enjoy the way it bounces between POV and we get some scenes told from both Kate and Miles POV. It adds a depth and understanding to each character that made the book more enjoyable for me. I don't think that would have been the case if it had been all one sided. I completely recommend as long as you understand that you're mentally walking into a very dark story.
🌶️🌶️.5/5 Dark, Gripping, and Incredibly Well-Written
His Yellow Hyacinth is another standout from Cassandra Vega. The story dives deep into the complicated dynamic between Kate and Miles, and it does so with sharp writing and strong character development. Their relationship is intense, messy, and layered — exactly what I’ve come to expect from this series.
What I really appreciated was how Vega never rushes the emotional beats. Every interaction feels deliberate, and the slow unraveling of each character’s past keeps you invested. The tension between them isn’t just physical — it’s emotional and psychological, too, which makes the story hit harder.
This isn’t a light romance, but if you enjoy morally gray characters, emotional depth, and a darker tone, this book delivers. A strong addition to the Forbidden Blooms series.
Cassandra always puts everything she has into her books, and this was NO exception. This is book 3 of the series, but my second favorite!
This story follows Kate (Charlie Ashford’s tour manager) and Miles (Charlie’s girlfriend Ana’s body guard). Kate is an alcoholic and uses alcohol to cope through life. Miles has a dark side very few know about. They are about 15 years apart in age, but lemme tell you 🥵🥵
Miles has this burning desire to be with Kate… and he will do any and everything to have her. He just doesn’t know she has the same feelings about him.
Without being too spoiler-y, this book is decently dark with some CNC, stalker vibes.
If you like dark romance, definitely give this a read!
Wow, I love Miles and his unhinged, morally grey & unconventional tendencies of protecting what’s his--Kate--and personality. yes, some of his actions are questionable but it alaways comes from good intentions. I feel like their personalities mesh well with each other, they have some things in common and some not, like with secrets hidden away and tragic pasts. This book was very good, I loved the story, characters, bonds, unhinged madness and steamy sexy scenes. Oh, and the age gap, god am I a sucker for those, and this one had a 15 or 16 year age gap! First book read by Cassandra and I gotta go and read her other books now.
Holy wicked twisted! The obsession is intense, the need is all consuming, and the love is the kind where there is no such thing as going too far, and it is all kinds of delightfully dark. Miles and Kate pretty much blow your mind with their intensity, these two are not messing around when they say they can’t and won’t live without each other, and everything in this read backs that up with stalking, manipulation, and justification, they push each other’s boundaries, they crave the darkness inside each other, and the heat, beads of sweat dripping down your face multiple times. An excellent dark romance that you can’t put down.
Honestly not sure what I read. This book had a chokehold on me. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE READ THE TRIGGERS BEFORE READING THIS BOOK. Reading the trigger warnings immediately had me stopping this book. I assumed this book would trigger me. Somehow it didn’t? I was reading and enjoying it. I got to the part I was worried I would get triggered so I decided to stop. I started reading another book but couldn’t stop wishing it was this book. The best way to describe this book was a “what the fuck did I just read and why was it actually good?” If a book could be a car crash that you know is disturbing but you can’t look away from that would be this one for me.
Cassandra's latest Forbidden Blooms novel is a dark, thrilling, and spicy masterpiece! Perfect for those who need a good dose of morally gray characters and emotional depth. This book sucks you in from page one with her captivating twists that bend your thoughts. This is not a light romance, but a gripping, intense read. Please remember to check the trigger warnings. All in all, this is a STELLAR addition to the series! I'm excited to see what comes next for Cassandra 🖤
His Yellow Hyacinth by Cassandra Vega is a tender, emotional story that quietly pulls you in. Her writing is sweet and poetic without being too flowery.
You can see the thought she put into each of the characters and she adequately shows how each one carry’s their own hope and pain. The romance is a slow build… but it is laced with moments that feel intimate and real.
There are parts where the story lags slightly, but the depth of emotion conveyed more than makes up for it. Overall this is a touching, reflective read that lingers in the heart. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Miles is Ana's bodyguard. Kate works for Ana's boyfriend ,Charlie . they silently drool over reach over, their tension is 100%. Miles takes stalking to a whole other level . He does do anything halfway... its all or nothing ... once she becomes the subject of his obsession its over for her . lol Kate has it just as bad for him .. she falls for him and accepts everything he gives ... she struggles w an alcohol addiction and he is a psychopath its sooo good both ways ... they teter on the edge of insanity
Kate and Charlie work together & they have some tension. She has to have Charlie watch her because she is afraid of a stalker. Their relationship starts to get a little more physical and she starts to see he has a dark side she didn't know about. They are both broken and have some pretty intense past secrets. I love this series and this was the darkest one of them. You definitely need to read the triggers for this one. I'm so excited for the next adventure!
