A self-professed chocoholic and coffeeholic, Lee Clark is a North Carolina native with family ties in Virginia as well. Originally from Raleigh, Clark still resides in the piedmont of North Carolina with spouse, two mostly grown children who are in and out, and a small petting zoo of dogs and cats.

Clark attended Campbell University, obtained a degree in Journalism from East Carolina University, and then a Master’s in Technical Communication from North Carolina State University. After working in the software technology industry for over 20 years, creating and building highly technical user information for software developers, Clark decided it was time to pursue a true passion: fictional writing.

Though the Matthew Paine character in the mystery series is fictional, he was inspired by two very important men in the author’s life, brother Sean and son Will. Both will see characteristics of themselves in the character and identify with some of Matthew’s struggles.

Lee Clark has certainly made her mark on the Christian fiction genre as this is her seventh Book in the Matthew Paine Mysteries series. The books have gotten better and better as the series progressed and I must say that, in my opinion, these last two books Forbidden Relics and Killer Convergence: A Classic Murder Mystery Novel (book 7) are excellent mystery / thrillers. There is a lot going on in this book and I won't try to summarize it, but the description is below.

Description:
They lied about everything. He won’t stop until he gets to the truth.

Twenty-two years ago they said it was a murder-suicide. They lied. It was just murder. They assassinated his parents as a warning, and now Detective Warren Danbury will stop at nothing to uncover who annihilated his family – and destroyed their reputation.

As young physician Matthew Paine assists his close friend Danbury to tenaciously reexamine these murders, evidence goes missing, memories can’t be trusted, and witnesses start turning up dead.

Paine and Danbury race against the clock to uncover the conspiracy that has not only survived for more than two decades, but grown in power and violence over time. The key to unlocking this deadly scheme and learning the truth about the murder of Danbury’s Kenya.

Now past and present; truth and lies; survival and murder all collide in a deadly and action-packed climax that finally answers the two questions that have haunted Danbury for twenty-two Who murdered his parents and why?

My Thoughts:
This was a complex and compelling story that must have taken a great deal of research. The book has themes of political corruption, faith, loyalty, friendship, and honor. There's even an international aspect with the Masai warriors. Matthew more than proves his worth in helping his friend Danbury find what really happened with his father. His loyalty and skills along with his faith and courage are evident here. I enjoyed how Matthew's friend, Justin, played such a supportive and important role in this story - I like Justin as a character and would not mind seeing a spin-off that centers on some of his adventures (maybe in the future Lee?) The plot provided good movement and kept me flipping the pages to a most satisfying ending. This is an excellent mystery/thriller and I would recommend it to anyone who likes that genre.

Thanks to Lee Clark and Cypress River Media for an advance copy.

Lee Clark has done it AGAIN YALL!

Oh how I forget how much I love an MP mystery. As soon as I crack open a latest book, I’m quickly reminded why I love this author and series so much. Killer Convergence by Lee Clark is the final book in the Matthew Paine series and it’s a fantastic way to end the 7 book series. Though, I really feel this won’t be the last of him - not sure why but that’s my feeling. Haha.

A deadly cold case, a detective that won’t stop, and the physician who will risk his own life to help his friend solve this mystery. The mystery and suspense just keep building until the satisfying ending. This was a great read and I fully enjoyed diving back into the world of Paine.

Clark’s writing is engaging, witty, and will keep you reading long past your bedtime. This time we are thrown back into a cold case where they said it was a murder-suicide, but they lied. The slaying of Detective Danbury’s parents was a message, not a tragedy. But looking into this case doesn’t come without risk because bodies are dropping and evidence has gone missing. But who is responsible?

Such a great read filled with twists and turns. It’s impossible to put down once you start reading. Loved it so much. The setting, characters, and mystery are some of the finest I’ve ever read.

This was a really good thriller! The interesting characters, intriguing plot, and fast pace kept me turning pages! Even though this was the first book I’ve read in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone.

The pacing of the story and all of the action really kept my attention. There were also so many twists and turns in this story that kept me guessing throughout, which I always love in a story like this.

I really appreciated how the story ended, as everything came together and I wasn’t left with any questions.

Thank you to Lee Clark and Cypress Media for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first novel I've read in the Matthew Paine series, but it was easy to fall into the story even though I was learning about the characters. This action-packed thriller follows Paine and his friend Warren Danbury as they try to uncover the truth in a cold case that is over 20 years old. This book offers great character development, lots of action, and heart-pounding scenes that keep you wondering what is going to happen!
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a well-laid-out storyline and lots of detail that helps you piece things together. I appreciated the epilogue that helped tie together all the storylines and did not leave any loose ends.

They said it was a family tragedy.
Warren Danbury never believed that.

Now, more than twenty years later, he’s finally ready to uncover the truth. With his closest friend, Dr. Matthew Paine, by his side, he reopens the case that shattered his childhood—and discovers that some secrets were buried for a reason.

I was completely drawn into the connection between Danbury and Paine, and their path through loss, loyalty, and the need for answers. There’s action, yes—but what really got to me was how personal this story feels.

Although this is book 7 in the Matthew Paine series, it works perfectly as a standalone. And now I’m genuinely tempted to go back and read more from this exceptional series.

If you love well-written mysteries with compelling characters, emotional weight, and plenty of tension, Killer Convergence absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR.

This is the first book of the Matthew Paine Mysteries that I have read but know I will go back and read the rest of the series as this was an excellent written book and keep you wanting to continue to read until you finished it. There were lots of twist and turn all the way threw. Matthew Paine work very well with Detective Warren Danbury & his best friend Justin. The author seem to now how to keep everyone interested in the story. There were lots of different elements involved as the story started 22 years before so the main characters had to find all the people who would have been around at the time of the crime. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys books written by Lee Childs.

Dr Matthew Paine had decided to quit his consulting job with the police. His best friend, detective Warren Danbury, asked him to help him solve one last case; a 20 year old cold case involving the murder of Danbury's parents.
Danbury's father was blamed for the murder-suicide of his wife. Danbury set out to prove that wrong. He and Dr Pain set out to uncover the truth.
Their hunt for the truth was noticed by others . There were secrets that someone in high places didn't want found out.
Danbury & Matthew found themselves racing thru the woods in a high speed chase being chased by trained assassins.
Danbury was captured and it was up to Matthew to save him.
It is a fast paced, action packed book filled with cover ups and corruption, one of the most exciting Matthew Pain books written yet. I couldn't put it down!

Some thrillers keep you on the edge of your seat. Killer Convergence doesn’t just do that—it shoves you right off and leaves you scrambling to catch your breath.

Detective Warren Danbury has spent twenty-two years living with a lie. They called his parents’ deaths a murder-suicide. But he knows better. They were executed, and now he’s tearing through every dark corner, every buried secret, to find out why—and more importantly, who did it.

With his trusted friend, Dr. Matthew Paine, at his side, Danbury dives into an investigation that’s as dangerous as it is personal. And let me tell you, Clark does not take it easy on these guys. Evidence disappears, memories blur, and anyone who might have answers starts turning up dead. Every chapter tightens the noose, pulling you deeper into a tangled web of corruption, cover-ups, and killers who don’t like loose ends.

And then there’s Kenya—the key to everything. Just when you think you’re piecing things together, the story explodes into a high-stakes, heart-pounding climax that had me flipping pages like my life depended on it.

Clark’s writing is fast, sharp, and relentless. Killer Convergence isn’t just a mystery—it’s a full-throttle chase for the truth, packed with tension, action, and twists that punch you right in the gut. If you love thrillers that keep you guessing until the very last moment, don’t even hesitate. This one’s a must-read.

Killer Convergence is the seventh book in Clark‘s Matthew Paine series, though it can be read as a standalone, too. In this book Dr Paine helps his friend Danbury clear out his father‘s name who allegedly killed Danbury‘s mother and then himself 22 years ago. Only it seems that the case isn’t as cold as they thought when new bodies start showing up, and it looks like someone is trying to scare them off the investigation. Set back in 2020, covid lockdown is used as a backdrop for the story.
What to expect:
📖 fast paced action
📖 mystery
📖 friendship
📖 Christian themes

Another awesome read by Lee Clark! Transported back to the days of Covid and the fears and panic we experienced felt real. I love these books because I am able to see in my mind the story of Matthew Paine and the trouble he gets into with Danberry as they go around solving the problems/mysteries. Lee does such a good job with her descriptions and details that my attention is held.

Killer Convergence

To be Published on April 22, 2025

Killer Convergence, the last book in the Dr. Matthew Paine 7-Book mystery series means we get our final installment into the on and off romance between Matthew and CeCe. Will they finally get their happily ever after? Or will it be stolen in the midst of a 22-year-old murder investigation that quickly becomes deadly.

This time it’s a personal investigation into the past for his friend, Det. Warren Danbury and Matthew can’t refuse his help. As Warren buries the grandmother who raised him, we learn that Warren’s parents were killed when he was young. It was ruled a murder suicide, which Warren never believed but his grandmother refused to discuss the deaths. Now he decides it’s time he stepped up to investigate the closed case for himself. Discouraged by his department he takes some personal time and enlists the help of his friend to learn what really happened to his parents.

More death by what seems to be a well-organized killer only encourages them and draws them deeper into the mystery. Through several life and death fire fights and explosions that surprise us and continue to threaten their lives, the story delphs deeper into a long ago mystery that takes us to Africa and back and keeps us turning the pages.

One of the fun parts of being a prolific reader is getting to participate in reading (ARC’s) Advance Reader Copies. That just means getting to read and review a book before it’s publication date and helping spread the word to other readers. Authors are always open to filling this role by fellow writers and hungry readers. I’ve read all of Lee Clark’s traditional mystery novels, the first three after publication when I first met her, but the last four I’ve enjoyed as ARC reads. She never disappoints. I can’t wait to see what she is working on next – I heard it might be a female protagonist.

Killer Convergence

Lee Clark has done it again. She has brought us directly into the world and the every day lives of Detective Warren Danbury & Dr. Matthew Paine. We are not just sitting, reading about them. We are there with them in the midst of their ever evolving mysteries! While at first glance they may appear to be an unlikely duo, they quickly came to depend upon their unique friendship and professional partnership to solve the many mysteries that seem to keep cropping up in the sleepy North Carolina town of Apex.

Killer Convergence is a little more personal. Pack your bags and strap on your hiking boots because this one is going to take you into the dark woods and leave you wondering if you’re going to make it back out! Warren begins the search for what REALLY happened when he was taking his first steps out of childhood, into what should have been his carefree teens. Matthew joins him on a search that spans decades, leads across several states, and leads them to the middle of international coverups that have been successfully buried since Danbury’s childhood. They have been buried since that day he walked home from the school bus to a yard full of police cars and his grandma whisking him away from it all. She never let him look back.

Warren had a good, solid life with his grandmother but she had always evaded any questions about the death of his parents. When her time had come and her body was laid to rest, Danbury picked up his spiral pad, enlisted his reliable police consultant friend Matthew and set to the immediate task of solving the mystery of his parent’s deaths. The same police department that he worked for, that his father had worked for, suddenly seemed unclear as to whether they would help solve the mystery or whether they were an integral part of the international coverup!

Killer Convergence is the seventh book in the Matthew Paine Mystery series by author Lee Clark. It is an action packed dive into the dangerous world of conspiracy, intrigue, friendship and faith.

In this last installment we are introduced to Detective Warren Danbury, raised by his grandmother after the supposed murder suicide of his parents. His grandmother remained silent about the tragic event and the Detective’s memories are vague, having been very young when it happened.

It’s been 22 years and their deaths have never sat right with the Detective. After his grandmother succumbs to COVID, Detective Danbury, no longer bound by veneration, asks his newly trusted friend, Dr. Paine, to help uncover the truth about his parent’s deaths, however painful it may be.

This begins a sequence of events, for as they sift through the evidence and circumstances—trying desperately to fill in the missing pieces—they open the wounds of a well crafted cover-up that goes beyond the borders of North Carolina.

Clark is a fantastic weaver of intrigue and mystery, and the more answers this duo learns the deeper each secret becomes and more people wind up dead.

Clark has the ability to draw you in and keep you invested in this action packed whodunit without feeling rushed through the storyline.

I truly enjoyed Paine and Danbury’s friendship and tenacity while finding out each nail biting truth. It is an interesting tale with an international cover-up and twists that tests them at every turn.

This is my first Matthew Paine book. I was skeptical to start after learning it is the last book of the series, but it faired fantastically as a stand alone.

An easy five stars and great ending to a series I am now eager to begin from the start.

A great crime book with a mystery killer, gruesome deaths, and 90s timeline. The beginning of the story is what drew me in with a boy coming home from school, his parents dead, a grandma running to grab him so they can leave for their safety. Then years later that boy became a detective like his father. I believe he has every right to find the truth about his parents death. Matthew is detective Danbury's friend is one partner in crime you need, a doctor for what is helpful in the crime and evidence they had to collect, he has his back on any situation, and even though the case Danbury was on became more dangerous with the more evidence they found, Matthew didn't back down, he stuck by his side. When finding out how his father really died, it was sad because his father had important info that got him killed. I won't go into detail about it to ruin the story for any readers. When Danbury and Matthew go on search for his dad's good friend Manchester. I will say that man is smart when it comes to hiding away from others with caves, no phones, backup bookbags, back vehicles. And a hideaway lair. When Danbury finally gets the truth he was looking for, he then gets kidnapped. Matthew is like a superhero, you can knock him down so many times, make him bleed, and chase after him. He will continue with his mission and he is loyal to his friend. I was happy that all of them went out there alive close to the end but what is really raging my mind is who the heck is the killer. I am dying to know. It just means I need to read the next book. I do recommend this if you love crime books, bombings, government stuff, and past cases. Thank you for the opportunity. I enjoyed the story and will be reading more.

Far from the average murder mystery!

After over two decades of silently grappling with the questionable details involving his parents’ death, detective Warren Danbury is ready to go after the answers he needs to finally move forward from the tragedy responsible for destroying his childhood.
With the help of his friend, doctor Matthew Paine, Danbury intends to uncover what truly happened the day it was determined his father killed his mother before turning the gun on himself. Leads, however, soon prove to be anything but easy for a case that gets more personal by the page.
Missing evidence, cryptic messages, witnesses found dead. The farther they dig, the more questions arise. And the question quickly making it to the top of their list:
Will they make it out of this alive?
Paine and Danbury put their unique friendship to the test as they face something far bigger than just any suspicious murder-suicide in this must-read thriller. Killer Convergence is the seventh book of the Matthew Paine series, but I can fully support this can be greatly enjoyed as a stand alone book as well. If you enjoy fast paced mysteries, loyal friendships, and immersive descriptions, this one is for you!

This is the second book I'm reading by the author, featuring main character Dr Matthew Paine. This time, the book takes a very personal turn as Matthew helps investigate a cold case that directly involves his law enforcement bff, Warren Danbury. Specifically, his parents' tragic deaths. Unfortunately in their investigations they entangle themselves in something much darker and deeper, and far more sinister and high stakes than any other situation they've been in before.

I enjoyed this story, which started off like a typical murder mystery, and then finished with non-stop action and layers and layers of suspenseful secrets that Matthew has to uncover. We're brought to several locations, including some very rustic mountains in Virginia, and introduced to some very interesting characters (like Conrad and Justin).

All in all, a thrilling and enjoyable read!

OMG this was a marvelous thriller mystery. I really enjoyed this book. It was a page turner and the suspense was so intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down. The lives of Detective Warren Danbury and Dr. Matthew Paine. And all the chaos is going to be crazy and mind blowing. They have to solve the mystery of danger and everybody lives. With the case is being to looking into this moment. Will the truth comes out in time. Many twists and turns and even the suspense will shocked you in the moment of madness and pain. Will the truth come to the light in time.

Detective Warren Danbury never believed that 22 years ago that his father murdered his wife and then killed himself. He was only a child but his grandmother took him away and didn't want to talk about this tragedy. Now, he is asking his friends Mathew Paine and Justin to help him look through all the evidence and find out the truth.

Now, something that he thought was a cold case is having witnesses turning up dead. The past and the present have a way of colliding in a cover up brought to light. Just what did his father discover?

This works as a stand alone even though it is book 7 in the series.

KILLER CONVERGENCE - A new author to me. Although this book is part of a series, it did not matter that I did not read the previous books. There were slight mentions of previous happenings. The characters are realistic, the story lines interesting and it was easy to be immersed in the intrigue. Source: The author. 4*

Twists and turns galore in this page-turning cozy thriller. A good part of the story is set in 2020 which added a slight historical fiction vibe to the story. Although it is part of a wonderful series, this book can be read as a standalone. It would make an excellent movie!

I had the opportunity to read this murder mystery/thriller as an ARC and it DID NOT disappoint. And I’m not just saying that - I was so pleasantly surprised.

Killer Convergence is the last of the series (book 7), but full disclosure: I did not read the rest of the series. I did not read the blurb. I went in blind and honestly that’s my favorite way to approach a new author and new book!

This book follows Matthew Paine, a general medical practitioner who has a bad habit of getting involved with the murderous side of people. In this novel, his good friend and detective Warren Danbury is finally ready to face the mystery that is his parents’ deaths. Their journey to answers becomes harrowing and so much more than they bargained for. I honestly had no idea where it was going to end up. That’s a win!

I also appreciate when an author can bring forth a character’s personality and demeanor simply through dialogue. You could glean the differences between Matthew and Warren just by how they talked. Great writing!
