Since I was heading to San Giovanni, Italy on a pilgrimage, I wanted to get to know this man a little better. Fascinated by saints who have received the stigmata, I yearn to know more on what their life was like. This is a 20th century saint unlike those that seemed to live so very long ago. Another reason to dig in. This detailed book was an interesting read as it contained many details of St Padre Pio’s life. The controversy surrounding him was believable as the Church questioned (as she is responsible for doing) and the people sometimes got out of hand as people do. I found the details in the testimonies interesting and believable. The testimonies - and there are many - made the book an extra read. I’d recommend for anyone who doubts his story or who wants to know more about what happened during his life. I’ve picked up another book to study more his spirituality although this was discussed in the book as well with some notable quotes of this holy man.

Exceptionally well researched. A very thorough look at this saint's life from birth to death and cannoniztion.
