Over 3,000 pages of nonstop action! INCLUDES TWO BONUS STORIES AND AN EXCLUSIVE AFTERWORD"Like Starship Troopers on CRACK!"-Goodreads reviewer
The name's Lance Corporal Lucky Lee Savage. I've survived 157 missions, not because I'm good—because I'm lucky. But now my luck's wearing thin.
What started as a standard op turned into a nightmare. My squad's decimated, we're stranded on some backwater planet, and we're facing an enemy with weapons that can slice through Empire destroyers like they're made of paper.
Worse, I've learned these freaks are pawns of something ancient—the Da'hune, aliens planning a full-scale invasion of our universe. And somehow, I'm connected to them through a darkness inside me called the Hate.
With only Rocky—my smartass AI copilot—on my side, I'm facing an impossible unleash the monster inside me or watch two universes fall. This darkness might be our only hope—if it doesn't devour me first.
If you like your military sci-fi brutal, your heroes damaged, and your stakes cosmic—welcome to my universe.
"This sucker is a grab your ass and hang on ride! Full throttle action from page one through the epilogue." -Goodreads reviewer, 5 stars
"A great military sci-fi novel! ... The fight scenes are fast-paced and intense. There are lots and I do mean lots of twists and turns in the plot. Nothing is quite as it seems." -Errant Dreams review
"One of the things that marks this book out from other military SF novels is the twists and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out, the author throws another one in. In hindsight, you can see how it all links together and how it drove the characters." -SF Crows Nest review
"Do yourself a favor if you love sci-fi with nonstop action, great character depth and environments that are off the charts, read this series!" -Goodreads reviewer, 5 stars
I have to admit that I stopped after a while in the first book. BORING. Oh sure, lots of action - maybe too much action - but little real character development and WAY, WAY too much “nanobots’ and “regeneration” crap. There was no real jeopardy for the main characters. Get torn limb from limb - hey - a new leg in minutes. New spine might take a little longer. Half a head blown away - the AI is on it. Real casualties stay casualties to some extent at least. It’s clear that the author had no military background. The most character development in it was the AI - and that’s fair enough. It’s coming. Some of the other stuff may be coming - whatever someone can dream up, it seems that at some point someone can figure out how to do it. But there was too much of it, too concentrated, with little else carrying the story line for my taste. Maybe it got better in the later books, but I just didn’t care to finish it.
Good imagination, vivid descriptions, good action, I just didn’t care for the tech volume and mix.
Lucky, Jiang & Malby are now household names here. My husband loved hearing what I had read each day. I'm going to miss these characters.
It's creative, fun & filled with edge of your seat action. The characters are well developed & crazy. The Empire is just that.....
Thank you Mr James. This book will forever be in my heart & mind; occupying the space that Jiang, Malby & Spider will always have. And I doubt that I will ever forget Rocky's frustration with her meatbag. 😉
I love a good space opera series and this one is a blast to read. Lots of action, great characters on good and bad guy sides, battles, drama, intrigue and so much more. I laughed at times, moaned at times and was entertained throughout it all. And of course a great main character and his crew just keep getting in trouble and find chaos so easily. Plus aliens to keep things entertaining too. Had to see it all play out.
This series is action packed! Found a few grammatical errors but those appear due to the translation to E-Book. Some of the story lines were a little predictable when reading the series start to finish but still entertaining. Will Lucky ever catch a break? If you like interactive AI's, aliens good and bad, and cyborgs you will enjoy this series.
A cracking read keeping you on the edge of your seat(figuratively speaking), when would Lucky’s luck would run out permanently or kill the unkillable I enjoyed it from start to finish.
A traditional old style science fiction series just like in the days of the greats. Amazing stories would have snapped it up and published it one chapter at a time. Pohl, Asimov and even Arthur. C. Clarke would have been proud.
