I enjoyed Zoar Blue; I had read this story a couple times previously. I decided to pick it up again for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Zoar Village, Ohio is now an Ohio Historical Society Site. It was formerly a settlement of German Separatists, who were pacifists, much like Old Economy in Pennsylvania and their Amish neighbors. I grew up about 20 minutes north of the village - it is a wonderful place to visit. The garden is just lovely. Zoar Blue is an interesting tale about the outside world intruding into a community holding itself apart from society and about several of Zoar's members being caught up in the life-changing events of the times.
