Katherine May is the romance author of light, HEA stories that tell about that first spark of love and the journey that came along with it. She currently lives in a small rural community in Colorado. Her life has an abundance of cows, laughter, love, and the sound of little feet pitter-pattering across her kitchen floor.
Blackhill Ranch A Lifetime Love is by Katherine May. The characters are well rounded and the plot is interesting. It was a good book. It takes place on a tourist destination ranch in Western Montana. Coming home from college to help around the ranch until she decides what she wants to do, Lexi is thrilled. She always knew she would never stay in California and being back just confirmed it. She begins helping around the ranch doing whatever she could to help. She was to help her brother’s friend Rhet redo the website, help Tina with the menus, and provide nighttime entertainment for the guests. She had ideas for all of them. However, all ideas, talk, and even movement came to a sudden halt when she first glimpsed Rhet. She had never met him before and her first view of him was a naked chest as he was working. She was entranced! What was she to do, she already has a boyfriend? Cole, her brother, ran the ranch with authority and worked hard all the time. Part was to expand the ranch and part was to blur his emotions on losing Sarah. Lexi wants to help him; but how? Can she figure a way to get Cole to move on? Can she ever forgive her best friend for hurting her beloved brother? Lexie’s best friend comes to visit and work for a few weeks. Can this loveable but definitely city girl Chloe ever fit in on the ranch? She shows up in brown and purple cowboy boots thinking she fits the ranch style. She just wants to be loved. How in the world will she ever find love on this family ranch? Lexi and her family enjoy having Chloe and watching her learn to clean the stables. Rhet is coming off a relationship and has come to the ranch to help Cole and his father. He has heard of Lexi for years; but their paths never crossed. Now he gets a chance to meet Cole’s sister in person. He is thinking of getting his own ranch sometime in the future. Will there be a future if he becomes involved with Lexi. It is a fun book to read.
Lexi is our main character in this novel Lexi has just finished college and making tough decisions. She has moved home to help on the family ranch until she can decide what she wants to do with her life. Rhet has been her brothers mythical best friend for years. Any time that she is supposed to meet him, suddenly he is MIA. The story of the book is the epitome of contemporary romance. After reading the synopsis and author bio on Amazon, I was expecting a much grittier story that what was written. For a debut novel, it is a great introduction to the scene. This book is simplistic, in that you don't really have to track a lot of information all at once. It is pretty fast paced as well. One of the issues I had was that for a college graduate, a lot of the interactions with Lexi, Rhett, Chloe were more indicative of high school aged characters. That being said, I think that this author shows some great potential in the writing world, if she can adapt her writing to match the age group she is representing in her books, lose the timid nature in the sex scenes and clean up some editing issues. I give this four fangs.
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve always thought a vacation around horses, trail rides, and beyond hot ranch hands would be a good time! I haven’t read many ranch style books, so I found this aspect of the book interesting. There ended up being way too many relationships to keep track of for me, though. I would’ve liked so much more of the book to be focused just on main characters, Rhet and Lexi’s, relationship. I didn’t really feel like I knew anything about Rhet, and then very little about Lexi by the time the book was finished. I need more focus directed towards the romance. More interaction was needed between Rhet and Lexi, especially steamy scenes. For a significant part of the book, it felt like I was reading about high school kids with crushes. I found the climax of the book to be a huge disappointment. It didn’t have anything to do with Rhet or Lexi. As mentioned before, there were too many people being focused on.
There was also lots of repetition with word choice. The word blush, for example, was used 33 times. It drove me nuts. It’s cute to see a big, tough guy blush every once in a while, but with how many times Rhet blushed, it seemed like he needed a confidence boost. I was informed I was being gifted an updated, proofread version of the book, but there were still many grammar, spelling, and missing/extra word errors.
I really wanted to like this book, but it ended up being more focused on family bonding than actual romance for me. I needed something to keep me on edge, as well.
Spoiler:
I wasn’t remotely interested in the love triangle between Carol, Tina, and Chris; and then Carol, Tina, and Byron. Chris coming to the ranch to hunt down Carol seemed to be the climax of the book, which was a let down. With how the book's description read, I was surprised/disappointed so much attention was given to these characters.
Also, Brian randomly stopping by to announce his engagement to Chloe's cousin was unnecessary. An ex making an unannounced trip to his former lover’s ranch to tell her he’s engaged and there are no hard feelings about his and Lexi’s past relationship ending? I was hoping it would be Brian coming back for Lexi, not Chris coming back for Carol. That would have been a much more intriguing climax.
With all of the characters being followed throughout this book, it was unbelievable for everything to work out perfectly for everyone, as well.
Okay first off I loved this whole story! I'm a sucker for happy endings so when everyone got some happy ending in this book I was thrilled!! I loved the way she wrote this book and I definitely will be reading more of hers!
Blackhill Ranch: A Lifetime Love is a sweet story constrating on "Second Chances at Love'. Our story starts out with Lexi, who after graduating from UCLA decided to go back home and help out on the family's ranch. By being back on the ranch, she will be be able to help her dad and brother with all necessary tasks but falling in love wasn't in the plans. Lexi, who is just "Taking a Break" from her boyfriend in L.A., meets ranch hand and her brothers best friend Rhet. The last thing she needs is to have a attraction to this man but with one look she is a goner. With her father asking Lexi and Rhet to help with the ranch's website they start to get close and a flirtatious relationship starts. Lexi just isn't sure that her brother would be happy with her having feelings for his best friend, but with his blessing she soon jumps in. With the visit from her spoiled college roommate Chloe, Lexi and the crew start to get in the groove and discovers that sometime love deserves a second chance.
I really enjoyed this story. I was able to read it in one day and was totally surprised how sweet it was. I am usually a fan of gritty stories but it was nice to have something that was different. The story is somewhat fast paced but with that said the author has covered all the necessary information in order for the reader to fully understand each characters feelings. I also enjoyed that not only is there a HEA for our main characters but also for the supporting characters as well. Each character balanced each other out and at times I found myself blushing at some of the sweet moments in the book. I would defiantly recommend it to other readers and would love for this book to be the start of a series.
If you are looking for a quick read about country living and sexy cowboys this is definitely the book for you. This was a wonderful debut novel from Katherine May. I enjoyed the story line and each character and I am giving this book a 4.5!
Lexi just moved back home to help her brother and father with the ranch after being away at college for the past 4 years getting her degree. Lexi lost her mother at a young age so being back at home made her realize how much she missed her family and the ranch. When Lexi finally meets Rhet she is drawn to him right away. There were so many cute laugh out loud moments focused around Lexi’s weirdness towards Rhet.
Rhet is also drawn to Lexi right away and knows there is something special about her. He has been through his fair share of loss and is looking for someone to heal his heart completely. These two hit it off right away and are amazed by how fast they are falling for each other.
One of my favorite things about this book is it also focuses on the secondary characters too. Lexi’s brother, father, and best friend all play a huge part in this book. I loved this quick read book and look forward to more from this author.
For starters I received an ARC for an honest review.
Blackhill Ranch is about a family. While the basis of the story is regarding Lexi and her connection to her brother's best friend, it also includes the stories of other family members on the Ranch. Lexi had left college and her college sweetheart to return back home for the summer to Blackhill Ranch. Before leaving her boyfriend they decided to take a break from their relationship and see other people. Will Lexi's instant connection she has with Rhet be her lifetime love or will a summer break from her college sweetheart show her that he is that lifetime love? Read this heartfelt love story to find out what ends up being Lexi's happy ending and what happens to all those at Blackhill ranch.
For those who love a HEA ending, you will get that in this book. There wasn't a cliffhanger for those who like to have a complete story. It is an easy read but there are many facets to this book and remember that the book may be about Lexi but she is on her family ranch so her family member's stories will play into hers.
Katherine tells a fun, energetic, and masterful story. Lexi heads home for a much needed break after graduating from UCLA to help out on the family ranch. She doesn't know that she is FINALLY going to meet her brother Cole's seemingly invisible best friend Rhet until she gets there. Her summer is supposed to be about figuring out where she wants to go now that college is over, but Rhet had ideas of his own. Can he overcome things from his past AND convince Lexi that they might have something real? Can they all make Blackhill Ranch a HUGE success? And what about Lexi's friend Chloe - the free-spirited girl who likes her creature comforts - a lot? Although there are a few small grammatical errors here and there they certainly do not detract from a truly wonderful story. If you like romance and beautiful western settings - this is a book you don't want to miss!
I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lexi is home from college to help with the family ranch until she decides what she wants to do. She finally gets to meet her brothers best friend, Rhet, as he is currently working the ranch. There are instant sparks. Lexi is a bit hesitant to become involved with her brothers friend because of past relationships but the attraction is too hard to resist for either one.
I enjoyed they story, it was an easy read with very little angst and a HEA.
I received an ARC eBook in exchange for an honest review. This was a fast paced, breezy romance. There was some profanity but not too much. Mild sensuality without being overly explicit. A few misspelled words and an occasional wrong grammatical tense used but in my opinion it did not distract from the story that much. There were three other romances blossoming between sub characters besides the main romance between Lexi and Rhet that were a sweet added bonus. Overall, a quite enjoyable read!! I look forward to reading more from Katherine May.
Lexi has come home from college to help her brother Cole on the family ranch. Lexi is currently on a break from her boyfriend and not looking for anything new. Well you know that does not last long when she meets her brother’s friend Rhet who is also helping out on the ranch. Sparks fly and love blossoms but is Rhet her happy ever after or has she left him back at college? This was a great story about love not just between two people but a whole family. I loved this story and the characters were so sweet and genuine.
I enjoyed this sweet little story of Lexi and Rhet, along with her cRaZy friend Chloe, wounded brother Cole, and the mysterious relationship between her dad and Tina the cook, or is it Carol the accountant? I definitely laughed, I teared up once or twice, and let out a sigh more than once at how sweet Rhet could be - and blushed a few times when things got steamy! Blackhill Ranch the vacation spot will take your breath away and its characters will make you want to move there!
I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this book. When I first picked it up, I only read a page or two and I wasn't so sure if I could get into the setting. It's not my usual pick, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance! The second time I picked it up, I started from the beginning and read the entire book in one sitting. It's a quick and easy read, but a good one. Now, where can I find myself a Rhett?
Oh how I loved this! It was so sweet, and funny, and has some wonderfully steamy moments, I was laughing like crazy and smiling like a weirdo in the early morning hours thinking a family member was gonna come and yell at me. I'm really looking forward to reading more of her books!!!!!
I was given a copy for an honest review and I'm definitely gonna have re read this book <3
I enjoyed the story and characters. It's different and neat to read an author you actually know. Good job Katie, it was heartwarming. Smutty and with morals. Reminded me of a couple of my girlfriends from college. Happy ending was nice for a change. Good luck Katie on your next book, I will be reading it as well.
I received a complimentary e-copy of Blackhill Ranch in exchange for an honest review.
Lexi returns home to her family's ranch, upon her graduation from UCLA with a degree in Business. Her dad has a few health concerns and it's time for Lexi to join her brother Cole to help run the family tourist guest ranch. Cole's best friend, Rhet, is helping out for the summer as well. Lexi has never met Rhet until she returned home and sparks fly immediately. Is this going to be just a summer fling with Rhet or could it be something more lasting?
I have mixed feelings about the book. On one hand, it has one of my favorite romance plots - girl falls for her brother's best friend. And I also loved all the secondary characters and their relationships with one another. Lexi's friend from college, Chloe, was a riot and I'm glad that she was given her own summer romance. Cole was a little hard to figure out - he wanted to help both his sister and his friend be happy with each other but then he also didn't want to know that there was anything romantic going on. He'd had his own brush with love with Lexi's best friend which didn't end well, so it was a little strange to me that he would be ok with Lexi and Rhet getting close. The plotline progressed well and I'm glad that everyone involved had some kind of closure with their relationships by the end of the book.
What I didn't like was how immature Lexi was. She had just graduated for college but honestly some of her actions and words made her sound like she was still in high school, so I found myself getting annoyed with her fairly often. There were also quite a few spelling/grammar issues that had me stumbling over the words. I can usually overlook these kinds of things as I read, but I think because I was already annoyed with Lexi, these issues really jumped out at me.
This book is a light and easy read, something that will make you feel happy and excited about love.
Lexi, the main character, hails from a ranch called Blackhill Ranch, which has converted from a fully functional ranch into more of an all-inclusive bed and breakfast getaway destination. She went away to UCLA for college and has returned after graduating. Upon her return home, she is reunited with her big brother and finally gets to meet his elusive best friend, Rhet. Sparks fly and it's apparent that Lexi and Rhet are going to end up getting together. Of course there's drama and ups and downs. I liked the ending. It's a standalone with an HEA.
At times the plot was predictable but it was good in that perfect I-want-to-escape-reality kind of way. I found myself smiling a lot while reading this book. As a debut novel by this indie author, there were a few rough spots that the editor missed, but I enjoyed it regardless. If you're looking for a fun and easy read about life on a ranch with cowboy romance, don't let this one pass you by!
This is a really sweet read, set in the mountains of Montana so of cause there are some pretty hot cowboys. Lexi, returning from college to assist in running the families ranch finally gets to meet the infamous Rhet, the best friend of her brother. After never actually meeting him she had finally decided that he was her brothers imaginary friend at college. After Cole returned to the ranch, his friend Rhet joined him. Her father always did have a soft spot for people who needed ‘a break’ in life. Cole loves both Lexi and Rhet and seems to think that they would be good for each other. He pushes them together, knowing that technically Lexi is only on a ‘break’ from her boyfriend Brian back in California. Rhet is hot, who wouldn’t be attracted to that? Rhet, always has his guard up, that is until Lexi. His walls come crashing down for her. She learns more about him than most people know. But can they make it work for them? Throw in a crazy best friend from L.A. and it gives you a good laugh too. It is a read suitable for everyone. Really good read.
This book is a great short story, the perfect length love novel. One of the things that I liked most is that the characters face many real struggles when being in love, and in life period. Some of the outcomes were good and some were as they really happen to many people. I loved that by the end of the book everything is wrapped up in a tight bow and you know about every character, you are not left wondering. Many real life issues were faced here with a great sense of love, support, and comedy. I would definitely recommend this great book.
I actually won a copy of this from goodreads and so I made sure to review in compliance with winning!
The narrator really pulls the reader into the ranch and her world, though at times I did find myself wishing that we learned other characters point of views as things unfolded. I found Lexi to be a genuinely upbeat personality which moved the flow of the story along quickly. I did feel as if some events unfolded a little too quickly and that one or two things might have been deserving of a book of their own, but all in all, I did enjoy the story, it was very lighthearted with a lot of warm, fluffy feelings.
This is a fun read that will have you laughing out loud. There is enough drama to keep your interest, but also some light moments that will leave you smiling. Lexi, your main character, is a sweet/strong girl that is going through what any early twenty-year-old is.
I thought this was a fun and exciting book to read. Every time I stopped, I was looking forward to reading it again. I wish there was a sequel so I knew what happened to Cole and Sara, and also Chloe and her Denver boy. I recommend this to all of my friends.
I really enjoyed this book. I fell in love with the whole family. The characters were believable and engaging. This was my first book by Katherine May and I look forward to reading more of her work.
