When a written document reaches its audience, it needs to be word-perfect because spelling, grammar, and overall structure speak volumes about a writer's aptitude. Most standardized tests require that test takers write an essay or complete a short written section. It is important that writers take the time to learn how to find and eliminate misspelled words, correct grammar, and organize thoughts.
I checked out "Proofreading, Revising, & Editing Skills" from the library with a stack of other books on editing. The other books I grabbed were aimed at professional writers ranging from journalists, bloggers, and fiction authors. I am studying in an attempt to write stronger first & second drafts that require less editing. My first novel manuscript went through six drafts before it felt ready to be pitched.
This book is a review of the grammatical rules we study in k-12th grade. I am teaching myself to use less passive voice, so I appreciated that section. The rest of it was a quick review of stuff I'm familiar with. This would be a good reference for a middle school or high school student who wants to brush up on their writing skills.
