Indecent Dukes #2

The Duke's Indecent Match

Rate this book
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a duke in possession of no fortune must be in want of a rich wife.

Miss Kalina Little is not the debutante that Nathanial, Duke of Hereford, needs for his wife.

What he needs is someone with a dowry hefty enough to pay off the debts left to him by his late father and skilled enough to help repair his family’s reputation and guide his sisters through the ton. As the head of his household, it’s his duty to provide that stability for his family, and the sisters who rely on him.

The last thing he needs is to have his head turned by a woman who’s own family is mired in scandal and who, after spending most of her life in India, has no clue how to navigate the tricky social politics of high society.

But no matter how he tries to avoid the temptation that is the beautiful Kalina, he can’t seem to put her out of his mind.

And when scandal erupts at a house party, there’s only one honorable way forward for Nathaniel… even if it means making the wrong woman his bride.

The second Indecent Duke is here,or should i say tragic duke?
Nathaniel, the duke of Hereford is looking for a bride, like the others.
And lucky for me,Golden Angel was there to see who he found, and how….
Because his story was most tragic, interesting, delicious and wonderful to watch!

Nathaniel needed a bride, but not just any girl would do.
He needed a wife with a large dowry to help him pay off the debts his father made before he so tragically died.
But she also needed to have a good reputation, and be able to guide his younger sisters through their lives, and Society.
Having been invited for a small weekend gathering by the Blackstones seemed like a good opportunity to get to know a few of the debutantes he was considering likely candidates.
Knowing a matchmaker would be joining them could prove to be helpfull…..right?
Because even though he couldn’t keep his eyes off one debutante in particular,he knew she could never be an option….

Kalina was so very glad to finally have friends in her life, and they were friends that mattered in Society, too!
She loved her parents and her little brother, she did really….but she never belonged.
Not with the Indian children, for whom she was too white, too British.
And not with the English children, for whom she was too Indian.
They’d returned to England now that she was old enough to marry, and she was hoping to find a Duke.
Because her father still hoped to reconcile with his father, the Marquiss of Stilton.
And if she married a proper Duke,he’d have no choice….right?
Being invited for a weekend at the Blackstones sounded like a good opportunity to get to know a few of them a little better.
Knowing a matchmaker would join them, would be helpful in making a good choice, right?
If only the Duke of Hereford would consider himself a candidate….but sadly,he didn’t seem to like her as much as she did him.

Fate has it’s way to make things work, even if it doesn’t seem right at first.
And this time,Kalina’s father was the one to give fate a little hand….
He knew why his daughter was set on marrying a Duke, but he also saw the spark between her and Nathaniel.
And he wanted her to be as happy as he was with her mother.
But it almost turned into a disaster…..because Nathaniel didn’t appreciate being forced to do the right thing!
Even if it was with the girl he secretly wanted most….

And in the meantime the mystery of the deaths of the Tragic Dukes’ fathers still wasn’t solved.
Who was behind it,who wanted them dead, and why?
A few clues were given throughout The Duke’s Indecent Match, but they need a lot more to get to the bottom of it!
Maybe they’ll learn more in The Duke’s Indecent Purchase???
The Lord of Luck,Matthew’s story??
I can’t wait to hear who,and where,he finds as his bride,thát’s for sure!!

My favorite author Golden Angel has written another great read with The Duke's Indecent Match. This is the second book in the Indecent Dukes series of historical romances. They tell the stories of 7 Dukes whose fathers were tragically killed - thus unexpectedly inheriting the Duke titles along with all the responsibilities involved with their ducal inheritance. For Nathaniel, the Duke of Hereford and the subject of this second book, his inheritance includes the scandal of debilitating debt caused by his father's incessant gambling. Nathaniel must marry - before the end of the Season - a wealthy woman with a huge dowery to pay off his father's debts and to help reclaim his family's honor - and honor is of paramount importance to Nathaniel. His bride must have the gravitas and connections to guide his sisters through their coming out debuts and through the ton, and help Nathaniel and his family to rise above their scandalous situation. Only in this way can he provide for his 3 sisters.

Protagonist Kalina Little was born and raised in India of an English father and Indian mother. Kalina's parents were a scandalous love match and are estranged from their families, with much scandal still surrounding Kalina's immediate family. Despite his clear attraction to Kalina, Nathaniel finds Kalina to be completely unsuitable as a match (despite her great fortune) because of her family's estrangement and the scandal attached to it, as well as her complete ignorance of and inexperience with English society. The story progresses from there, and includes tidbits of the mystery surrounding the deaths of the 7 Dukes' fathers, which occurred just prior to book one in the series, and which the Dukes are trying to solve. And I imagine those mystery tidbits will be cropping up in the subsequent books in the Indecent Dukes series.

Golden Angel is fantastic at writing historical romances with some kink in them. This one delivers - with characters and relationships that grow on you. As with so many of Golden Angel's characters, they become like family and you really care what happens to them and between them.

The book is well written; the last few chapters feeling a bit slower than the first half - I think because, for me, there may not have been enough "suspense" around the family-related scandals? Not sure. I didn't like Kalina's father, Mr. Little, and his actions - though they are integral to the plot and somebody had to do it! lol! And there were a few times I wished Kalina would stand up for herself a bit more - but then she may not have been as submissive as she needed to be... Still loved the book! And I love how, in the Epilogue, Golden Angel brings in a very brief mention of characters from another of her Victorian era books (The Lady - Dirty Heroes #14).

Though you will have a more in-depth understanding of the group dynamics and relationships, and the mystery surrounding the deaths of the Dukes' fathers if you first read the first book in the series (The Duke's Indecent Scandal - another great read), this book can be read on its own, as there is some explanation of characters and relationships at the beginning.

I will be re-reading each book, in order, as new ones in the series come out. Can't wait for more of Matthew's story in the next one - The Duke's Indecent Purchase!

I received an ARC of this book. The opinions and thought expressed are completely my own.

I absolutely loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. These historical books by Golden Angel are definitely my favourites!
Kalina and Nathaniel are a perfect match, although it may not seem so at first. I devoured their story. The scene at the ball in one of the final chapters touched my soul, giving me goosebumps. I absolutely loved it!

~~This was their family. The people who stood beside them, no matter what. She finally had a place where she belonged.~~

The epilogue is a preview of the next book, the story of Matthew, in The Duke’s Indecent Purchase. Can’t wait to read that one as well!

I received an arc and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I loved this second book! Kalina is so sweet. She just wants to help her dad get his father back. But she gets as much trapped by her father as Nathanial does. I loved these two together. Loved the friendships and family. I can not wait until book three! Have to see what happens to more of the Duke's.

Very enjoyable read....
I am loving this series so far! The characters and world building are fantastic. I enjoyed seeing this couple find their way to each other's hearts. I do think the conflict lasted a little longer than needed, but it didn't detract from the story. I couldn't put it down until the end. This read holds your attention, and the pacing is such that there are no lags to lose momentum. I am looking forward to all the Dukes finding their matches. You need to start at the beginning of the series as their is a storyline that continues through each book so far. Great read, definitely recommend this book and the first one.

I received an ARC of this book, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Omg the way I shockingly laughed and couldn't stop?! I know what Kalina's dad did was wrong. But it was also so scandalously perfect! These two needed that kick. I don't know how I would have felt if this book had gone any other way. Nathanial and Kalina were meant to be!

I love this series and cannot wait for more.. These little hints are driving me crazy!!

Nathanial needs a rich wife but she also must be well-accepted in society to help his younger sisters find husbands. Kalina needs a duke for a husband to outrank her father's estranged family. She's rich, but not well-accepted. Too bad their attraction to each other is undeniable. As the title implies, a scandal happens but the specifics are unexpected. The result is both frustrating and satisfying in all the best ways. So good in hot/cold/hot, will they or won't they? fashion.

I received an advance reader copy and this is my honest review.

Nathaniel and Kalina may not have started in the best of circumstances, but, after some struggles and strife, some intimate moments and shared experiences, they finally managed to not only come to terms with their future, but eagerly anticipate what will happen next.

There is a connection with Bridgeton in this story. It is undeniable. And I enjoyed that connection very much. Because, it is there, but it's not all the story.
The author did have the inspiration for her characters from Anthony and Kate, but Nathanial and Kalina have a mind, a soul, a story of their own.
And I liked it very much.

With the death of their respective fathers by mysterious means there are now seven reluctant dukes looking for their prospective duchesses at the debutante balls. Miss Kalina Little, granddaughter of a marquis and with a more than sizeable dowry, should have been everything Nathanial, the Impoverished Duke of Hereford was looking for in his prospective duchess but growing up in India meant she has no idea of how the ‘ton worked and, due to her father’s estrangement from his aristocratic family, lacked the high society connections Nate needed if he was to see his three sisters launched in the manner they deserved.

Kinky historical romance teemed with a delicious murder mystery as the series subplot involving the deaths of the previous dukes continues to gather pace, I’m loving this series from Golden Angel. I felt so sorry for Kalina, always being judged and found lacking. For the Indians she had been too British and vice versa when she reached London. All she’d ever had was her immediate family who she would do anything for so to achieve a reconciliation with her grandfather; she set her sights on landing a Duke thinking it would then make her family more respectable to him. Unfortunately for Kalina, her father decided to help her achieve this, not realising the damage he risked, not only to her reputation but her future happiness especially when Nate believed she was part of this scheme.I loved the development of their relationship as he introduced his virginal bride to all things marital including some light BDSM and discovered she had a taste for spanking. Their chemistry sizzled and gradually, as he got to know her, he began to realise she was innocent and Kalina blossomed under his hands, growing in confidence. And even better he delivered the ultimate insult to her evil grandfather on her behalf proving to her once and for all she wasn’t lacking in any way.

I fall in love with each new duke Ms. Angel introduces.
Well, eventually I do!

Is it admirable of Nathanial to be doing what he is?
Or for that matter, Kalina?

Thank goodness Kalina's parents were a love match, and that is what they want for their daughter!

Ms. Angel's descriptions are always full of color!
Excellent dialogue.
Characters you grow to love and want in your life!

This is a story you don't want to miss and you'll be waiting impatiently for who will be next if you're like me!

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this story, but all the names of all the dukes are killing me! If I were reading all the series from book 1 to the end, it would not be a problem... But months in between stories, I am dying here!

Ok, moaning over, now onto the story. Nathaniel was really a dumb little shit! He really got on my nerves with, first, being so sanctimonious about her lack of connections, and then when he refused to talk to her! He wasn't perfect, but he really expected it of her...

On the other side, Kalina was practical, and she I really admired from start to finish. She was attracted to him, she was open with her dreams and desires, and when he wasn't the one for her, she didn't try to change his mind, she found another suitor. I wish more historical heroines were so pragmatic and with a bead on their shoulders.

It was interesting to see non white characters in I want to say Victorian England, but I really don't remember exactly when the book was set. Unfortunately, it's not hard to swallow that racism hasn't changed and people will always be judgemental a-holes...

The overreacting plot was added to, but not by much and it felt a bit like an afterthought. I am so curious about Astrid and Drake and I wish theirs was the next book!

This is book two in the Indecent Dukes series, and just like the first, it completely delivered! The absolute longing and angst between Nathaniel and Kalina was chef’s kiss . . . steamy, emotional, and at times made me want to knock their heads together for being so stubborn! It’s such an enjoyable read and, like the first, one you can easily lose yourself in for hours. The writing just pulls you in. I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series!

wonderful Historical Romance 💘

Oh I just love Historical Romances and this one by Golden Angel meets my expectations easily. It also has an on going mystery that I am sure will only be solved in the last book in the series, so book 6 or 7. This particular book is number 2 and I really loved the characters and the story line and there is a wonderful HEA at the end.

Fun story about a marriage that starts with a match that that was not what was expected. Nathanial liked Kalina but had convinced himself that she is not what his family needs. But when circumstances make their marriage a necessity we get to see if their chemistry can overcome that.

The Duke's Indecent Match is a compelling continuation of the Indecent Dukes series. Golden Angel has truly outdone herself with this second instalment, bringing forth characters you can't help but root for, even as they grapple with their own internal and external struggles.

Nathaniel, the Duke of Hereford, is a man driven by duty, burdened by his family's financial woes due to his late father's reckless spending. Faced with mounting debts and the responsibility of providing for his younger sisters, Nathaniel's sense of duty overrides any desire for a love match. His pragmatic approach to finding a wife—a woman with a large dowry who can also help him manage his sisters' debut—feels as cold as it is necessary, highlighting the rigid expectations placed on men of his status. However, what makes Nathaniel such a fascinating character is the underlying vulnerability that surfaces when his world is suddenly upended by his attraction to Miss Katrina Little.

Katrina, fresh from India, is a woman with her own motivations and desires. Just like Nathaniel, she's hoping to find a match that will help her family, though her motives stem from her father's dreams of reconciling with his own estranged family. The tension between duty and desire is palpable, and you can feel the sparks fly when Nathaniel and Katrina are thrust together in a compromising situation. It’s a classic trope, but Golden Angel infuses it with emotion, making you empathise with both characters as they navigate the aftermath of a decision that was taken out of their hands.

One of the most striking elements of the book is the complexity of Nathaniel's internal conflict. He feels trapped by his circumstances, furious that the choice of his bride has been made for him. His pride and sense of control are in direct opposition to his growing feelings for Katrina. This tension keeps the plot moving at a brisk pace, with moments of passion and introspection that make the eventual romance between them feel earned and satisfying.

The secondary plotline involving the mystery of who killed the fathers of the Dukes continues to add an intriguing layer of suspense to the story. While it doesn’t dominate the narrative, it weaves through the main plot, giving it an edge of danger and uncertainty.

The spicy scenes are sizzling without ever feeling gratuitous, adding heat to an already intense storyline. The chemistry between Nathaniel and Katrina is undeniable, balancing sensuality with emotional depth, making each intimate moment feel like a natural progression of their connection.
Overall, The Duke’s Indecent Match is a wonderful addition to the series, creating characters caught in the web of duty, family, and love. Nathaniel and Katrina's journey is one full of tension, growth, and heart, and the book leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next instalment. If you're a fan of historical romance with a dash of mystery and plenty of passion, this one is a must-read!

This second book in this series is a brilliant read. I was totally hooked right from the beginning of this story. It had an interesting twist with a bi racial MFC who is desperate to make things right for her father to make him happy and a MMC who is so desperate to right the wrongs of his father’s making that he can’t see what he really needs.

Nathaniel, the Duke of Hereford needs a rich wife because of his late father’s debts that he inherited but the rich woman he is so attracted to not on his shortlist of wealthy women to marry. Nathaniel takes his responsibilities very seriously. He is a very serious man unless he’s at his country estate with his delightful younger sisters. He is a bit of a jerk at the beginning of the book because he can’t see beyond his father’s deliberate mishandling of money and his responsibility to his siblings and the people of his estate.

Miss Kalina Little has a huge dowry, is drawn to Nathaniel and wants to marry a duke so her father’s family will have to acknowledge him again after disowning him years ago. Kalina always wants the people she loves to be happy. She grew up in India so Nathaniel had discounted her even though she takes his breath away every time he sees her as she has not grown up in the ton and he has responsibilities to consider.

When they both attend a house party held by mutual friends, they have a connection that is seen by many. Before the end of the party they are forced to marry due to being found in a compromising situation, Nathaniel is resentful his choice of wife was taken from him, little knowing his perfect wife has been in front of him all along. Kalina is a beautiful, gentle soul and Nathaniel is thoughtful and kind when the weight of his responsibilities is lifted from him.

This book has a wonderful plot that kept me up into the wee hours of the night. The characters in the story were all engaging and memorable. The only confusion I had was with the indecent dukes themselves. This might just be my own problem but I found when they were called by their Christian names and their ducal names separately throughout the story it had me wondering who was who. I had to match them up and write them down to keep track of them. That being said, all the dukes, who were as close as brothers were integral to the plot, along with Kalina’s female friends who all support the couple throughout the book. There were also friends from previous series’s who pop up too!

I really love reading the spicy scenes. They are so well written and hot that I needed a fan to stay cool while reading them. Every Golden Angel book I have read has a ten chilli pepper heat rating to them.
I have loved reading this series so far and cannot wait for the next duke to find his duchess.

I received a special copy from the author. I’m voluntarily leaving this review.

The great skill Golden Angel has is in creating characters that are real to you and who you come to care for like the best of friends.

Nathanial, despite his attraction and admiration of Kalina’s intelligence dismisses her as his potential wife because he does not think she will be seen by society as a proper duchess. This is disproved once she does indeed become his duchess but boy how that comes about (chapter 12) I yelled internally oh no they didn’t. By ‘they’ I mean both the author and the character who did the thing. In book one the ‘girl gang’ led by Lady Astrid provided a sisterhood and support to Tiffany that was wonderful, and we feel Kalina’s pain when Astrid believes she was involved in trapping the duke and behaves coolly towards her. We also feel her ache when Nathanial acts coldly towards her and I really did not like the way he consummated the marriage. However, this is realistic considering the circumstances and when a racist incident occurs in the village, he backs his wife without hesitation. Kalina wants so much to give Nathanial her love and for him to forgive her for her perceived actions. The journey to him catching up to her in feeling love leads to some spanking fun moments. You will be gasping further at the set up for the next book in the epilogue. There are some cameos from well-loved characters from previous series so while you wait, I recommend going back to read those if you haven’t already (Bridal Discipline and Deception and Discipline).

This is the 2nd story in the Indecent Duke Series where our next Duke, Nathaniel knows he needs a bride with a wealthy dowry along with her being accepted in society with his 3 younger sisters needing good matches. Kalina has the expectation from her father to marry a Duke with the hopes his family will accept him back after marrying her mother against their wishes. These two have the same problem on the opposite sides so when they spend time together at a small country weekend they both feel the attraction but they both worry for their own reasons they will not be a good match. Nathaniel is a serious man who has taken on the responsibility of his father’s debts and will do what’s necessary to ensure they can rebuild their home and lives. Kalina has grown up in India and now England never seeming to fit in with an English father and India mother. When her father sees what they don’t during the weekend he takes fate into his own hands causing a compromising situation where Nathaniel has the choice to step up and wed Kalina or they both suffer the consequences. Kalina is upset at what her father did and Nathaniel believes Kalina was part of the deception and resentful of not having the choice to pick his wife. It’s beautiful to see how these two navigate the tricky social life in this historical love story and with a bit of steam, forgiveness, finding your true family and friends and genuine love. What will the Duke of Luck, Matthew find himself doing to gain a wife!

This is the second story in the Indecent Duke Series, featuring Nathaniel, the next Duke. He needs to secure a bride with a substantial dowry and societal acceptance, especially for the sake of his three younger sisters. Kalina feels pressured by her father to marry a Duke, hoping it will reconcile their family after his marriage to her mother defied societal norms.

When Nathaniel and Kalina spend a weekend together in the countryside, they feel an undeniable attraction but are unsure of their compatibility. Nathaniel is determined to resolve his father’s debts, while Kalina struggles to fit in due to her mixed heritage.

As the weekend unfolds, Kalina's father intervenes, creating a compromising situation that forces Nathaniel to decide whether to marry Kalina or face serious consequences. Upset with her father's actions, Kalina and Nathaniel grapple with trust and choice in their relationship.

This historical love story boldly explores societal expectations, themes of forgiveness, and the quest for genuine love. What steps will the Duke of Luck, Matthew, take to find a bride?

I grew up reading Georgette Heyer and this series by Golden Angel reminds me so much of them albeit Golden’s are spicier. It takes me to a world where the class system reigns supreme but it doesn’t annoy me like it does now. It seems like a genteel world full of manners and protocols for living. It should be wrong and yet it seems so idyllic the way Golden writes it. Kalina is thrust into this world with the expectation of finding a Duke for a husband and thanks to her father’s interference she does just that, but at what cost. Nathaniel spends so much time arguing with himself that if left to his own devices he would have never offered for her. Thankfully Juliette pointed out the errors in his argument. There are so many great characters in this story in addition to those we have met before. There is the ongoing mystery of who killed the Duke’s and now we have a teaser for the next book that could have been a situation from any headline in today’s news. I love these stories and I am so looking forward to the next one.

Nathaniel, the Duke of Hereford, is in desperate need of a rich wife. But he also needs someone who can guide his sisters during their debutante Seasons. But he keeps thinking about Kalina Lake, a debutante of mixed English and Indian heritage. So when Nathaniel got drunk at a house party and woke up in the wrong bed, he had a big decision to make that would affect both him, his family, and the Lake household. So after the deed is done, Nathaniel and Kalina need to learn how to get past circumstances and live together. And then there is the slowly unraveling mystery of the deaths of Nathaniel and his friends' fathers. A nice addition to the series. Now I just need to wait for the next volume to be published!

Nathanial, the Duke of Hereford, needs to marry to repair his family’s image while restoring their fortunes. Despite his strong attraction to Kalina, she is not a good match due to her background.

It’s been some time since I have read a historical romance and this book has an interesting premise. Despite Nathanial’s reservations, an incident soon forces his hand and he ends up marrying Kalina.

As I prefer my heroes to be more decisive, I found it a little hard to root for Nathanial who vacillates between being attracted to Kalina and hating himself for being unable to resist her. Things pick up though once they are married, and he finally learns to trust her.

4 1/2 stars. I enjoyed this story. I loved the aspect of diversity within as well as acceptance by some. Kalina was from India, British father and Indian mother. Most overlooked the wealth of this family, basing their opinions on appearance, even Kalina's grandparents. Nathanial was more concerned about whether she was educated in the ways of the ton. Deception brought them together, and despite mistrust, they made the best of the situation and found a strong, true love. Definitely plenty of steam and wonderful friends to keep this story intriguing. I look forward to the next to follow the background mystery. Well worth the read.

Book 2 in the Indecent Dukes series, Nathaniel's a duke looking for a wealthy wife with connections to pull his family from financial ruin after his father's death. Kalina's needs to find a husband that will help her father's status with the ton and make his family acknowledge him. Kalina and Nathaniel's chemistry is beautifully crafted a perfect match for each other. I love Golden Angel's Regency romance series if you haven't read one please order it now you will enjoy this as much as I did.
