Not bad for a free Kindle Unlimited book about aliens from a female-depleted plant looking around the universe for mates because, you know SCOURGE disease.

Man, I love this kind of shit.

description

Two things did kind of make me look...askance at this thing though....

description

1) Jenna got down and dirty with Ra'kur pretty fast considering, you know, they JUST met, and you know, because ALIEN.

2) And - most of all - the description of Ra'kur's appearance - namely his "ridged" forehead - left me with visions of...well...

Re-read because I'm missing this world so much, I wish we had info on when/if the next book was coming out.

4 1/2 stars, this book was just what I was looking for and just what I needed. After reading too many ok books and several just plain bad books, I have finally found a book that left me fighting putting it down and excited every time I was able to pick it up and read some more. I almost passed this book by but my desire to find great PR/alien book had me taking a chance and I'm so glad I did. This book was everything I have been looking for in a great alien romance. Yes this book needs editing but with how great the story is, the great world building, and story line the author created, as well as the amazing charters Willow Danes created and it was easy to look over the editing.

While at her grandfathers cabin preparing to clean it out and sell it after his death Jenna thought she heard a plane crash from the neighboring plane strip what she found instead when she went out to investigate was a huge scary alien who when she tried to run shot her. Waking up chained to her bed Jenna is terrified and when she see's the huge alien she can't think of anything but escape.

When the Alien continues to push Jenna to eat, and drink, and follows her all around her house she soon see's that escape is impossible. Even though the alien is scary Jenna can't help but admit that he is also handsome and sweet the way he tries to care for her, and almost seems to purr but with a language barrier that they can't get past Jenna finds it hard to find out what the huge alien wants.

The more time they spend together and the more he seems to pick up her language the more Jenna starts to think she had the alien all wrong. When they finally get a change to talk Jenna finds out that Ra'Kur thinks she is his mate and all he has done has been to woo her and show how strong he is. When Ra'Kur tells Jenna he wants to take her home she knows she will have to refuse even if not seeing him again seems to cause her pain.

And then the choice is taken away from Jenna, and as she and Ra'Kur start their new life they soon find the obstacles set up against them are piling higher by the day,con Ra'Kur's planet Jenna is something all the lonely men want even if they have to take her, and worse Jenna may not be safe in a world with so few woman left.

I really, really like this book from begging to end so much so that I dreaded seeing the percentage on my kindle continue to creap higher and higher. The second I finished I looked up all the information I could find on this series and quickly moved it to the stalk author pile/impatiently wait for book two pile. Willow Danes did an amazing job creating a world I easy became a part of and she created characters that I could help but love. Jenna is a smart strong woman who though she is strong isn't irritatingly tough. Ra'Kur was a magnificent hero. He was everything I look for in my perfect hero, strong, possessive, jealous, will to do anything to get and keep the girl, while also kind and loving.

And the side characters were just icing on the cake that added even more to this story and the world created making me want more still. We get a nice sneak peak into the next hero for book two as well as a small snippet of book two that was nowhere near enough but still left more all the more excited for book two.

This book was cheesy-sweet af. I'm not one to often read sci-fi/alien romances other than Laurann Dohner's books, but this one worked pretty well for me. The hero, Ra'Kur was a total alpha male for a virgin alien and I totally loved his character. He was very protective and possessive of his mate, Jenna and he growls a lot too. And did I mention that he was a freaking virgin? Jenna's character was also fun to read. I love heroines with a good sense of humor and reading her inner monologues cracked me up at times.

As for the sex, the scenes were quite descriptive but I thought it wasn't erotic or arousing in some way (since it didn't get my panties soaked and all lol). But this was a really enjoyable read. Ra'kur and Jenna had lots of cute and funny moments especially during the first few chapters, and I couldn't help but smile throughout the book. This was my first Willow Danes book and will continue to read more from this author.

If you're looking for a sweet paranormal romance with a possessive/protective virgin alpha hero and a funny endearing heroine, then this one's for you.

PS. To all Grammar Nazis out there: Yes, this book might need some editing. But I was too caught up with the story that I just didn't care anymore if it has typographical/grammar errors. Peace out!

Rating: 4 solid stars.
POV: 3rd person. Both from the MCs.
Series: 1st book in Warriors of Hir series. Can be read as standalone.
Cliffhanger: No.

In consideration of space porn – I've read better. Much, much better...

The sexy alien guy..???

Check...

Unsuspecting human woman/abductee/lonely chick who hasn't have had sex in ages (why do they always do that?)/ chick who has no more family (and that?)/ chick who lives in a cabin in the middle of nowhere (especially that?)...???

Check....

Plot ???

tumbleweed animated GIF

Er.....

Who would have thought that the most difficult genre to write would be erotica? It's like the authors themselves don't give a shit about what they put in there. Sometimes it's as painful as if somebody is making you to read an actual porn narrative written in purple prose. Hint-hint if you want to make good money – write good scifi erotica – it's rarer than blue diamonds.

Jenna and Ra'Kur. It starts out as your typical 'Mars needs Women' trope, but the world building was better. Ra'Kur is on an Odessay to find a mate. Due to war with some malevolent species, almost all women on their planet died or were rendered infertile. So Ra'Kur takes his space ship out and about to find love elsewhere. He ends up crashing on Earth in the back yard of his mate. Jenna came home to the mountain to help her grandfather in his last days. Dealing with grief, she isn't expecting to have to deal with the love 'hunting' of an alien. For the first part of the story they labour along in their miscommunications because they don't speak the same language. You would thing that once they are able to speak the same tongue, that things would be hunky dorey... but things actually get worse because now they realize just how wide their misunderstandings are. Fortunately they both are pretty level headed. Still, things spiral out of their control and the saga continues on his planet...
I didn't expect much going into this story and was surprised how much I enjoyed it and look forward to the next story. It's not really a 4 star read, but that's how much I enjoyed it. (I especially liked that the alien women weren't vilified. )

Re read via audible. It was fun listening but the male narrator is not appealing to me. He sounds like Bane from the last Batman movie. Not sexy.

Prior comments:

4.5 stars. I loved this book! Maybe my rating is a little high because I have read some real crap lately, but I totally enjoyed this book and rushed on to the second in the series. The hero is great (totally devoted and protective male) and I liked the heroine. It was hot and steamy. Totally safe read.

I love alien romances - I feel no shame! I just do.

And I really enjoyed this one. The typical alien romance plot of some Extra hunky male alien, needing a "mate" as his race is dying out as for **insert reason here** females are scarce on his home world.

This has really been done a lot, some good, some not so good (in my opinion anyway)

And this was one of the better ones. I liked both characters, Ra'Kur as a character was almost endearingly cute! For an alien. That roars.

But, a great start to a series, and I am excited to find a new alien romance series for me to enjoy. I will definitely be carrying on with the series.

The only thing, that stopped it being a 5 stars, for me (and I know I said these type of things seem to follow a theme, and really they would, there is only so many ways you can do it) but there were one or two bits, that just reminded me a little TOO much of some other alien series I have read. Nothing major, the odd detail here and there, but enough for me to notice.

It could have been a touch longer and flowed a little smoother but, all in an enjoyable 4 stars.

3.5 RATING- Am I the only one who is slightly embarrassed to read about alien romance? Hmmm. Oh well, I know my GR friends don't judge...that's why I hang here!

I usually don't read much in the sci-fi/fantasy genre but when I heard this book compared to one of my favorite Kristen Ashley books, Golden Dynasty, I had to see what the deal was! Unfortunately, the book wasn't similar in my opinion but it stood on it's own as a pretty solid romance, as far as alien romances go =) The story drew me in and while it wasn't amazing or anything to write home about, it was entertaining and I will read the next book in the series, when released. I guess I'm a sucker for sweet alien lovers. Go figure.

I'm not usually a fan of PNR but based on a recommendation from a trusted friend, I read this book (it's available on Kindle Unlimited) and I'm so glad I did. The book tells the sweet love story of Ra'Kur and Jenn. Ra'Kur is from the planet of Hir where biological warfare has wiped out most of the female population. He has traveled many years searching for his true life mate. Due to mechanical problems he has to crash land on earth, specifically on rural land that Jenn now owns due to her grandfather's death. Ra'Kur recognizes that Jenn is his true life mate immediately upon seeing her. He's strong, uber possessive and sweet. This book reminds me a little of KA's Golden Dynasty. The love story between Ra'Kur and Jenn brought tears to my eyes during certain parts of this book. I like this author's writing style. She has the ability to draw you into the story and actually feel the characters' feelings. Even if you're not a big PNR fan, I recommend this book if you looking for a love story that will make you fall in love with the characters and anxiously await the next in the series. 4 1/2 stars for me.

So sometimes I get bored with all 900+ books on my TBR shelf and sometimes I get on Kindle Unlimited and search for hours and sometimes I add 17 more books to my TBR shelf and sometimes I read what I thought was going to be alien smut but it's really an alien mate book and sometimes that's alright.

If you are wanting an alien smut book then put this back because it is not smut. There is a story.. not a totally great story but there is definitely a story line. There is very little smut. I wouldn't even call it smut.. it's like YA smut. :(

but I actually still enjoyed the book. I think that she gave in way too easily. The guy purrs and you go all goo goo but hey whatever works for you. I love that hey couldn't understand each other at first.. idk why I always love this. It's usually pretty funny and it really only lasts a day.

Okay so there is a storyline, there really isn't smut, the chick is kind of a push over, the dude is stubborn but sweet and the book is short.. pretty decent actually. I'll eventually read the second book.. on another day when I'm bored with all my unread books ;)

Side note.. my laptop is sitting right next to me.. Why did I type all of this from my phone??? WHY?!

Not great not bad.

I loved the beginning and the insta attraction of the mc's and of course the loving scene was excellent! Especially the nose rubbing. I also liked how the h guided the H through his first experience. It was creative and didn't take away from the passion. Bravo to the author.

I was disappionted that all the loving scenes were in the beginning then I think only one short one later on. I wanted at least another more detailed. If so, it would have been more balanced IMHO.

It's too bad this promising beginning kinda started falling flat for me about 1/2 way through. I supposed it is because I expected more sci-fi ness. Yeah we get aliens and a space ship and another planet but all felt so flat and one dimensional. Clearly this author is a romance writer not a sci-fi writer. She did pretty good considering... writing sci-fi is no easy task, but I guess my expectations were a little higher then they should have been.

The hero was perfect I completely adored him, and the heroine was ok, although I felt her dialogue made her seem childish.

The story was too short and I wanted more backround about both characters. I wanted to see more than be told. And I also wanted more technology.

Overall I enjoyed it. It was a nice quick easy low angst read.

I would definately recommend to others. I do not plan on continuing the series for personal preference reasons.

So this one was more an alien romance than alien smut. But I still enjoyed it. More than most of the other alien smut that has been filling my status updates lately.

Things I didn't like:

1. Aliens were not alien like. Just tall humans with weird color eyes. I mean really. Why do all aliens look like humans?
2. He couldn't go back and grab her a single picture of her Pap? What is the point of being able to create wormholes?
3. She tried to attack his face with her tongue all of 2 minutes after meeting him. While she was cuffed to the bed!!!

Things I did like:
1. This alien romance began on Earth.
2. Mutual language understanding was not immediate. Ra'kur was so cute learning English.
3. New alien BFF Si'hala. She proves no matter the race, all 2 girls need to bond is a little retail therapy.

I will agree with my fellow GoodReaders, this is one of the best futuristic romances out there. Unfortunately, when the vast majority is *sorry* trash, it doesn't matter that much.

Captured is very nicely written, and it had a good editor too. But when you write genre fiction you have to follow the rules, and in "science" they are pretty strict. So no valid world-building on the scientific side. But also not much of a romance either, at least for me. First, because sex at first sight with anybody, above all, an alien is beyond stupid. Then because there was no romance, out side what I was told. There wasn't much depth to characters either, but at the end of the day it was my minor nit.

Overall a well written terrible blandness.

So this was a fun read in the MARS NEEDS WOMEN trope. There's not a lot new here (the alien race is dying out, the woman is captured, they are biologically compatible, etc etc) but it was still fun and entertaining and if you dig this sort of trope LIKE ME, then you should know this is free on Kindle Unlimited. I'm just saying.

I did take a point off because the heroine was from North Carolina, right? Half the time she talked totally normal, and half the time, she talked like the hickiest hick that ever hicked. It was odd. But I am totes on board for book #2. BRING IT ON. The hero of that one will be R'har, which in my mind, is RAWR (complete with mock scratching action).

I decided to check this out based on Val's review. I mean a KU that is worth my time? WHAAAAA? I was beginning to think I was more likely to find a unicorn or that Mark Zuckerberg was actually going to give me a million dollars for sharing his pictures or...

The motherlode!

Anyway, I thought I should check this out.

It's pretty standard alien-meets-girl, alien-falls-in-love-with-girl, alien-kidnaps-girl-to-his-planet fare. But it's an odd thing for KU -- it's like the author had talent. I'm not saying no KU books feature talented authors, but... well...

No lie, these two bang -- like a lot. In that sense, it's the standard KU version of romance. They pretty much start having sex the first day out and most of the book is banging. But then something interesting happens -- once they leave Earth (and come on, we have a Klingon alien/human romance, you know they are going to leave Earth), a plot starts to happen. It's not a great one, but the author did a good job and she actually used things heretofore mostly unseen in the KU universe -- things like editors (that don't consist of merely pressing the spellcheck button) and grammar, and reactions that held true to the characters. It boggled my mind.

So why didn't this book rate higher? Purely subjective on my part -- I'm not a huge fan of alien-meets-girl. I'm not saying I don't enjoy them at all, but they aren't a huge go-to for me. I just didn't see me wanting to read this. However, if I ever check out this author and see that she's branched out into another genre, I would totally and eagerly pick her up again. Because, to belabor a point... she's a unicorn in the KU world.

This actually has a story! And I kind of liked it.

Even though it's been done before I was intrigued enough to finish it and read the next in the series.

Sexy alien crash lands on earth and meets a pretty earth girl. Fate steps in and he takes her home. The villain of the story is the doctor! But I understood why he did what he did.

I didn't really like the heroine very much but I did love the hero...and that is what is important...lol.

4 stars! Hehe.

Lots of cute moments especially in the beginning! Loved how the hero supposedly "courted" the heroine according to his customs/tradition. That was funny. ;p

I liked the hero a lot. The hero was just a big teddy bear. Sigh. He was so sweet! <3 On the other hand, I didn't like the heroine that much. I hate it when the heroine can't decide, doesn't know what she wants, blah blah.

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the story overall!

The first book in the Warriors of Hir series by Willow Danes. Ra’kur crash lands in the mountains of North Carolina and finds his lifemate. Only Jenna McNally isn't convinced. But Ra'kur takes her to his planet anyway and hopes to convince her.

Okay, I'm one of those weird people who likes scifi and love romance so what could be better than to combine them? Not the best but it was good and kept my attention.

I love Sf romance and alien abdution stories! And here we have a very good addition to the genre!

The story is nothing new, but still it is interesting and I felt involved with it.

I liked that here the aliens are not a gorgeous greek-god types, but they're slightly Klingon-like, but they come in different colours: blue, green, etc. I enjoyed it very much!

I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

Captured: Warriors of Hir was ok. It was supposed to be like Golden Dynasty by Kristen Ashley.

Alien crash lands on Earth. Alien finds girl, chains her to the bed, and they have lots of sex and eat pancakes.

It was your typical alien meets human story.

I actually really enjoyed this book. There were no big editing errors, no characterization issues that bugged, the sex scenes (though few) were hot and I even got the ending I wanted (though brief). Why three stars? Well, I had the nagging suspicion from about the 2nd chapter throughout that I had already read this story before. Not just a couple things but the whole thing read like a slightly altered book that I also enjoyed in the past. I checked my ereader and didn't find another by this author or title. I automatically one star a book that been republished under a different name without warning but I have no proof and details were a little different so I can't do that here. It would have been a four star if I hadn't had that feeling. Sorry, author, but this story has been done before.

Quick Rundown: Chick who recently lost her only relative, is clearing out their winter retreat when a great crash outside the cabin sends her to the floor. Upon investigation, a battle cry is heard, Dude jumps out in front of her and basically stun guns her. When she wakes, she finds a barbarian like alien who does more than just growl at her. A connection is made and a choice has to be made. Stay with him and hide him or leave with him? Her choice gets taken away and she finds herself in a situation where more danger is imminent.

Characterization: This was okay. But it wasn't really necessary. The relationship between these two are what I really enjoyed and while there wasn't a lot to this chick as far as background and personality quirks, I didn't feel the loss of it. Secondary characters were hardly touched on but I have a feeling they will be further explored in the next novel...or maybe not. The Big Bad is still kinda unknown though there are pawns that have to be dealt with.

Plot: Again, I've read this storyline before and wish I had better recall to give comparison but I will say that the beginning half when the two are trying to communicate and getting to know each other is right up my alley and I loved every minute of it. The author tries to set up a booby trap in the plot that makes you think a certain thing is going to happen but you end up being surprised when something completely unexpected happens instead. That was a plus (even though it still felt like I had read it before). The sex scenes were hot but a little short and too few. The ending was a smidgen abrupt but I still go the ending I wanted. Next book is supposed to be released Winter 2014 but since it's December 29, 2014, I don't think that's going to happen. Hope I remember to check it out because I'm looking for another good book in the alien abduction genre.

Worldbuilding: Very low, thumbs down but for the amount of time spent on another world and with the fast paced plot at this point, I can understand it. I just had to make it all up in my head on my own, though.

Overall: An enjoyable read. It was also on Kindle Unlimited program so a free read for me!

Jenna McNally is closing out her grandfather's estate in remote North Carolina when she hears what sounds like a plane crash. Searching for the crash site without success, Jenna is about give up when a larger than life male alien appears out of thin air growling and flashing his fangs at her. Running, Jenna is soon caught and at the mercy of an alien who doesn't seem to know what to do with her.

Ra’kur was his planet's last hope to find lifemates for the warriors of his dying race. Returning without having found any compatible females, his ship is attacked by a Zerar warship propelling him through a wormhole to crash on the primitive planet Earth. Fate may have played a hand as a goddess of a woman appears at his ship who is receptive to the mating rituals of his people. Ra’kur has found his mate and a potential salvation for the males of his planet.

New to me author and series. Has the flavor of S.E. Smith's Dragon Lords of Valdier series and Evangeline Anderson's Brides Of Kindred series, so if you're a fan of either this is a series to check out.

For the most part this installment set up the world building and circumstances setting up the need for Earth women to populate the Hir planet. This may be why I didn't connect to the actual main character couple as much as I would have liked. My basic issue was that if Hir was a planet of warriors who were striving for survival of the fittest, which included guarding and protecting their limited number of females, I would have expected more alpha behavior and attitude from the Hir warriors. These guys were too 'nice' and gullible for my tastes.

As for the adult content scenes. There was a sweetness to these scenes but this actually was a positive for me. From the initial "ggggrrrisss" I giggled my way through their first coupling to their after sex chocolate. Of course there was some sensual scenes that had me squirming but I do think they should have been a bit more descriptive and indepth.....

My issues were more that the scene cuts were abrupt and the overall story didn't flow in a cohesive manner. I did put this down to this being a first in series installment and that the author will improve as this has so much promise.

Pure fantasy contemporary erotic romance that I accidentally came across, I'm looking forward to to seeing what the future holds.

I really enjoyed this book. We meet Jenna who is packing up her grandfather's cabin when a load explosion rocks the place. She does the smart thing and calls the Sheriff to report a plane crash. Well, she didn't see the crash and can't see smoke so they think she is out in the woods hearing things.
Jenna goes exploring in the woods looking for the plane crash. What she finds instead is a huge 7' muscle bound alien that roars at her like a lion scaring her to death!
Ra'kur of course thinks he is going through a standard mating ritual instead of chasing down a woman running a screaming for her life.
Captured was so funny in the way these two struggled to communicate. Her talking him growling. I almost wish they would have spent more time like that.
There attraction was instantaneous the sex scenes were pretty hot. I like they way we got both hers and his POV. Some people don't like that but I do. I like to know what is going on with both leads in a story.
This was a very enjoyable Alien romance and I will be reading the next one Taken ASAP....Sara

This is one of the better scifi romances.

For one, it's not erotica. I thought it would be, because they always are. But this had one scene near 25%, and after that it's just angst and plot.

This book was a winner for me, until they reached the alien's home. Then the book fell flat. It was dull.

I love how the author wrote! I'll definitely read more.

I especially loved how this didn't promote rape culture and had a woman who, even after waking up in another world, still wanted to return home. And that doesn't change (mostly). I feel like most of the books I encounter with similar plots have the woman stolen and kidnapped, but within a chapter she quite likes the new planet. Which is ridiculous. Especially since a lot of the time it's because these women feel pressured or guilty if they don't stay. They're usually physically and emotionally manipulated.

But this story doesn't do that.

It was great!
