Underlight: City of Dreams — Golah’s Adventures immediately stood out to me because of how much depth there is beneath the fantasy story. The world of Underlight feels like it has a real history behind it, and I loved the tension between freedom and control, dreams and reality, and the question of who gets to define the world around us. Golah’s journey feels like more than simply defeating an enemy; it’s also about identity, choice, and learning who you are when different people and powers are trying to pull you in different directions.
The atmosphere was another thing that really caught my attention. Underlight feels dark, mysterious, beautiful, and slightly unsettling all at once, and you can tell a lot of imagination and personal history went into creating this world. Knowing that the story grew out of a community and a world that existed long before the novel makes it even more meaningful. There are so many interesting ideas woven into the story about belief, power, resilience, and choosing your own path. It’s the kind of fantasy world that leaves you thinking about the ideas underneath the adventure, not just the adventure itself.
