She was a small-town girl with a crush. He was the guy destined to make it to the NFL. Twelve years later, he doesn’t play football anymore, and he’s a single dad.

But more importantly… he’s back in town.

Lizzie
I had a not-so-secret teenage crush on my older next-door neighbor. Even when he went off and became a Hall of Fame-worthy football player, got married, and had kids, he still felt like the one who got away. But now that he’s back in Brantley Falls, things have changed. Turns out he might have a crush on me too this time, and while I may be setting myself up for heartbreak, I can’t seem to stay away from him or his adorable girls. But how long can we toe the line between friendship and love before I lose my heart to him forever?

Cameron
My life is falling apart around me. My NFL career, my marriage, my family. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to keep my head above water. Moving back home to Brantley Falls is the new start my daughters and I need. Until Lizzie. The neighbor girl who used to watch me from her treehouse with stars in her eyes has grown up and is still next door. I should stay away. I have enough on my plate. She deserves more than me. But our chats under the stars are a balm to my soul, and no one gets under my skin the way she does. Do I have it in me to go all in, or am I going to let my past hold me back and lose the best thing I ever had?

Under My Skin is a spicy, age gap, childhood crush, single dad, small town romance with no cliffhanger and a guaranteed HEA!

Okay, this one hit all my small-town, single-dad-loving buttons. Like, if you told me I’d be swooning over a man who used to be the NFL dreamboat but now gets tackled daily by his two adorable daughters—I’d say, “sign me up and throw in a HEA, please.”
Cameron had me gritting my teeth in the beginning (sir, PICK A LANE), but once he made up his mind? Game. Over. The man is hot, emotionally available and throws out grade-A dirty talk. And don’t even get me started on the “mine” energy—possessive in the hottest, non-toxic way. Yes. Please.
And Lizzie? I loved her. She’s strong, grounded, doesn’t take any BS, and I wanted to be her friend instantly. She knew her worth and wasn’t about to let anyone—even her long-time crush—treat her like a backup plan. We love boundaries AND spice in this house.
This book had me giggling, soft-sighing, and fanning myself all in one sitting. The friend group is tight, the town is cozy, and the epilogue made my heart melt into a puddle. Also, can we get a slow clap for single dad rep done RIGHT? I already can’t wait for more in this series.

The vibes it gives:

“You got under my skin, made your home in my heart, and I don’t want you to leave.”

This was a great debut novel with characters that were down to earth and relatable. I was hooked from beginning to end.

Lizzie was my absolute favorite character. I loved her, she was a kindhearted soul and just a sweetheart. Her vulnerability about being enough for someone like Cameron was something a lot of people can relate to. I loved her journey and she 100% deserves all her dreams coming true. She has some growing pains to deal with before she can see herself as the amazing, talented and worthy person that she is but she gets there and loved her journey.

Cameron ran a little hot and cold but he's been burned in the past and with so much change in his life, it was understandable why he was so cautious to open himself up to love again. His feelings for Lizzie take him by surprise and it definitely overwhelmed him. But his bruised heart needs a little healing before he can take the plunge .

Lucky for them, they have a friend group that's there to support them and knock some sense into them, when needed! I fell in love with Brantley Falls and can't wait for the rest of the series!

If you like small town romance with a sweet heroine, light age gap and a protective alpha Hero, Under My Skin will not disappoint.

DNF

received this one as an ARC but cannot bring myself to finish it, unfortunately. This may be one I come back to in a few months because I do like the premise but it feels very cookie cutter small town romance and making me feel book slumpy so for the sake of my reading sanity, putting as DNF for now :/

“You got under my skin, made your home in my heart, and I don’t want you to leave.”

ARC Read

Thoughts: Who doesn’t love a small-town romance featuring two people who are meant to be together? I was thrilled to receive this book as an ARC, and it did not disappoint. It’s the debut of Brittany Bennett, and her writing and character development truly captured the essence of a small town. I felt there was a strong connection among the characters throughout their journey, which really made this book enjoyable for me. I loved the dynamic between the two main characters, who had liked each other for many years but were too afraid to express their feelings. However, fate had different plans for them. I appreciated how Cameron was a bit hot and cold, while Lizzie was warm-hearted and kind. They complemented each other beautifully. The level of spice in this book felt just right, not too much and definitely not dull.

Favourite Moment: I especially loved the stargazing scene. It’s something I have always enjoyed, and it really touched the romantic side of me.

Notes: Although the story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, I've been thinking about the other characters ever since I finished. I can’t wait to see what Brittany Bennett does next!

I received an eARC from Naughty Nook PR but all opinions expressed are my own.

If you love an age gap romance with a single dad set in a small town then have I got the perfect book for you! I absolutely loved this book and am obsessed with a second chance romance style story so going into this I had high hopes. I wasn't expecting the amount of heartfelt growth that we go through in real life to translate so well, and so beautifully, as it has in Under My Skin. I was honestly shocked that this was Brittany Bennett's debut because it was so well written that I assumed Bennett was well established and I had been sleeping under a rock (lol).

When I read the premise for this book, I was definitely intrigued and looking forward to reading it

Sadly, this book did not really hold my attention or I didn’t really enjoy it

The story felt very rushed and repetitive to me…The communication between Lizzie and Cameron was non-existent and gave me very childish/high school vibes

I guess the one decent part was the spice wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t rate it very high

Under My Skin by Brittany Bennett is a contemporary small-town romance that delves into themes of second chances, healing, and rediscovered love. Set in Brantley Falls, the story follows Lizzie, a woman who once harbored a teenage crush on her older neighbor, Cameron. Years later, Cameron returns to town as a single father, his NFL career and marriage behind him. As they reconnect, their bond deepens, leading them to navigate the complexities of past wounds and the possibility of new beginnings. This novel offers a heartfelt exploration of love's resilience and the courage it takes to embrace it anew.

The beginning when Lia and Lizzie were talking about Cameron, hooked me immediately, creating intrigue about our MMC who we haven’t met yet at this point. Cameron’s indecision and penchant for making decisions on behalf of Lizzie drove the entire story forward. I wished Cameron had to work a little harder to win Lizzie back but it was satisfying when he was finally able to discern his feelings. Lizzie and Cameron’s slow-burn romance, sprinkled with just the right amount of spice, felt natural and heartfelt, with touching late-night conversations and strong chemistry.

Must-Mentions:
Stargazing/Lying underneath the stars
Friends who call you out are the real ones <3
I hope a future addition to the Brantley Falls Series is about Ellie and Liam. I found their struggles to be interesting and worth exploring!

What Could Be Improved:
Renee's character lacked the nuance she deserved, reduced instead to a caricature of the "evil, cheating ex-wife." Her most pivotal moment in the story was so over-the-top that I actually laughed. It’s a shame, because there was real potential in exploring the complexities of a stay-at-home dad and a career-driven mom dynamic. Renee could have been written as a woman whose ambition and demanding career left her with little time or energy for her family — making her and Cameron fundamentally incompatible even without the affair. That would have added emotional weight and realism instead of relying on a one-dimensional villain trope.

I received a free advance copy of this novella for review purposes. I was not paid to write this review, and all opinions are my own.

What a DEBUT, Brittany! FIVE STARS… all of them.

Under My Skin officially put me into my small town, spicy, single dad era! This book is nothing short of amazing - it made me feel all the things. Especially a good “fuck it” moment to get me all riled up.

Lizzie Montgomery is your definition of a small town sweetheart, the one everyone loves and adores - and I mean how could you not? She’s the perfect mix of gentle, kind, giving, and the sassy attitude she can bring out sometimes is everything. Then enter the towns ex-NFL star, Cameron Dylan - the best girl dad who is afraid of failure after so many tough hurdles life has thrown his way with his divorce and his father’s passing. It’s been 12 years since Lizzie’s crush for Cameron started, and boy oh boy is it a deep soulmate crush.

Lizzie and Cameron’s story is so pure and heartfelt that I couldn’t even put it down. The amount of times I felt the need to squeal out loud at this book, was more times than I could count. I love that they basically grew up with one another, and got to experience one another before and after the fame. But getting to experience Lizzie with Mackenzie and Addy - there’s just nothing better. To take on a role that means so much to those girls, was a huge risk that Lizzie was willing to take, and she would have done anything for those girls and their happiness. Cue the mudpie animals…

Now what we all really love about Cameron Dylan… his FILTHY mouth. There’s nothing in this world better than a dirty talking (ex) NFL player… you can’t convince me otherwise. I’ll take a million more chapters of his filthy words!

Overall - Brittany, you wrote a book of perfect small town romance! I cannot wait to continue this series as it comes out! Thank you for sharing Lizzie & Cam with us!

OMG Under my Skin by Britany Bennet was everything I was hoping for.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Cameron Dylan has become one of my book boyfriends! He’s such a good single dad who cares deeply for his daughters. He’d do anything and everything to protect them from including the possibility of pain and hurt from the possibility of a failed relationship with the girl next door, Elizabeth Montgomery.

Elizabeth, Lizzie, is the town sweetheart. She’s a few years younger than Cameron but she’s always had a crush on in. She’s never left her small town and is afraid that she may not be enough for Cameron.

Throughout the story, their desire for one another is evident. Cameron cannot stand any other guy looking at his girl. Meanwhile, Lizzie is in disbelief but willing to risk it all. Their affection slowly burns into they can’t control it. The romance was there, the love was there, the SPICE was definitely there!

I loved everything about this book. I highly recommend it.

MMC: Cameron Dylan (single dad/2 daughters)
FMC: Elizabeth Lizzie Montgomery

⭐️Stars-4.5/5
🌶️ Spiciness-2/5

Under My Skin by Brittney Bennett is a Spicy, Age Gap, Small-Town Contemporary Romance with a guaranteed HEA!

This second chance romance was a lighthearted, engaging, funny, and enjoyable read.

Lizzie, a 24-year-old small-town sweetheart, had a teenage crush on her older next-door neighbor that wasn't much of a secret. She was raised in a loving and supportive household by parents who only wanted her to be happy and fulfilled in life.

Cameron has returned to Brantley Falls with his two young daughters, seeking to provide them with the simple childhood he and his sisters enjoyed. Having experienced several life-altering events prior to his return, including the end of his NFL career due to injury, a failed marriage, and the loss of his father, he struggles with change and commitment due to anxiety about failure.

Includes-
Meetups for stargazing,
Intense Alpha Male outbursts,
Girlfriends who put you first,
Friends who give you straightforward advice.

Thoughts-
-The hot and cold became too much at times.
-While Renee's appearance was necessary, I felt that her character development was incomplete and needed more nuance in terms of her characteristics and motivations.

I loved Under My Skin and eagerly await Brittney Bennett's future projects.

I just finished Under My Skin by Brittany Bennett, and I absolutely loved it. ✨❤️ Brantley Falls is an adorable small town. I was rooting for Cameron and Lizzie the whole time. His daughters were so adorable, especially with how they kept trying to push him toward Lizzie.

Cameron kept going back and forth, unsure of his feelings, and at times I felt bad for Lizzie—it almost felt like he was stringing her along. But I also understood that he was trying to protect his kids and make the right choice for them. Their friends-to-lovers romance developed so beautifully, and I especially loved their late-night talks under the trees. Those moments really showed how deep their bond was.

My favorite part of the book had to be when she went on a date and that guy told her to cover up her freckles because he didn’t like them and then Cameron said it was one of his favorite parts of her. 😭 I hope the next book is Liam and Ellie.

Review:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I love a mature story and characters that overcome insecurities, heartache and grow together through their life storms. Lizzie is the small town sweetheart and has a lingering crush on her much older neighbor. She’s also a talented artist who owns her own pottery studio. When Cameron returns to town divorced and a single father of two sweet girls he searches for new grounding. He just inherited his father’s farm and homeownership headaches. Lizzie steps in to lend a hand and wins over his daughter’s hearts…and his.

The swoony retired NFL man is the only man to spark Lizzie’s heart and give her butterflies. I love that she never compromised her goals and didn’t engage in frivolous relationships. She’s a self made businesswoman and artist. Her time for love, marriage and motherhood has arrived and you’ll get a front row seat. So happy that Lizzie and Cameron had an HEA and new found family!

I really enjoyed this book, it had that perfect mix of angst, sweetness, and emotional moments that kept me hooked from start to finish. I couldn’t put it down once I got into it.

Cameron drove me a little crazy with all his back-and-forth on Lizzie (seriously, make up your mind, dude), but when he finally got it together, he became such an amazing character. Totally worth the wait.

Lizzie? Adored her. She was sweet and maybe a bit naive here and there, but she had a backbone and didn’t let Cameron walk all over her. I do wish she’d made him grovel just a little more, but I respect her choice.

The side characters were gold, especially Addy and Mackenzie, they added so much life to the story. The writing was easy to sink into and flowed really well. Nothing too flashy, but it totally worked for the vibe.

Overall, Under My Skin gave me all the feels and left me with a happy heart. Definitely a win for me!

Thank you so much to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving a honest review voluntary.

This was my first Brittany Bennett book and definitely not my last! Under My Skin gave me everything I want in a small-town romance...emotional depth, sweet moments, a bit of angst, and characters I actually cared about.

Cameron had his frustrating moments (sir, make up your mind!), but once he finally stepped up, he really won me over. And Lizzie? Loved her. She was kind, genuine, and quietly strong, someone you can’t help but root for. I do wish she made him grovel just a bit more, but I respect her heart.

The chemistry between them was so natural and heartfelt, and the late-night convos under the stars? Yeah, those got me. Also, Cameron’s daughters totally stole the show! They were adorable and brought so much warmth and humor to the story.

The writing was engaging, and had a really nice flow. Nothing over-the-top, just a solid, cozy read that tugged at all the right emotions.

Final thoughts: If you’re into second chances, single dads, and sweet-but-complicated love stories with heart, Under My Skin is a must-read.

*I was provided a free ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.*

4.5 stars, but 5 at the top because we still don’t have half’s.

This was an absolutely adorable story. It was my first and definitely not last story from Brittany Bennett. It was well written and the FMC Lizzie, was extremely sweet and likeable. I loved her immediately. Cameron, the MMC, I liked immediately because of how he was with his daughters, I was starting to not like him due to his ability to immediately stick his foot in his mouth at any given opportunity no matter how well anything is going. He fixed it though after sweet Lizzie ripped him a new one and I am down for it.

2/5 spice.
I would call it cozy, and the spice was spicy but definitely not the main focus of the book.

Pretty great story all around, the main disagreement will throw you for a loop though, no spoilers from me.

Give it a try.

Lizzie has had a crush on the boy next door, who is ten years older than her. He moves back after his father’s death with his two daughters into the house next door and immediately notices how much she has grown up. On a night out with their friends, Lizzie and Cameron see each other and sparks start to fly. The two of them even spend nights stargazing under a tree between the houses while trying to be friends.

There are a few misunderstandings and situations that put them in each other’s path through the story. It starts as something casual but feelings grow and become more especially with the kids involved. Cameron’s ex threatens to ruin it and it’s another challenge for them as a couple.

I liked how the two of them didn’t jump into a relationship. There was hesitation on both sides with them having to actually say what they wanted. I loved the ending. I read the book in one day and it was a great read.

Oh how the tables have turned for these main characters. In the past it was Lizzie having a crush on her neighbor. And now, years later Cameron sees that his younger neighbor is all woman now. And she's not only attractive, but also funny, supportive and loving. Aaand she's amazing with his two little girls. With some angst and drama - will they find their HEA?
I really liked how they managed to talk their issues through. Even though things got difficult and overwhelming at times, they tried to understand each other and fought for each other.
And I loved their friends! They're the best kind - ones that will support and protect you, but aren't afraid to call you out when you're in the wrong.

Now, I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

📚🌶🌶

Under My Skin is Brittany Bennett's debut novel and I am so glad I could be apart! When I first read the description it definitely got me hooked and it delivered!! I can't wait for more to come!

Lizzie has had a little crush on her next door neighbor turned NFL hall of fame, Cameron. Even though he got married and had kids she still felt a little spark towards him. She always thought he would be unattainable, but then he moves back home after his career and marriage fell apart. Now Cameron and his daughters are settling in and he realizes that Lizzie, the girl that used to watch him from her tree house, still lives next door. He is just getting settled with his girls and he doesn't want to complicate that, but when you finally get an opportunity to be with someone that has your heart, you just have to go all in.

This was too sweet and cringey.
I mean cmon, all similar silly traits
Small town, everyone is best friends with each other
Too much philosophical talks…..
h who never left, can earn big bucks without moving anywhere also is not into fashion but still looks attractive unkempt.
Also why do h have to be in love with H who never noticed her before and knew about the crush she has but let it be.
Went ahead and married ow, had kids without sparing any thoughts to her
Also she doesn’t get into relationships with anyone
Still loves H and now that he is a divorced dad of 2 he deems the h worthy of him as who better than her to be a ready made mom happy to live in small town with no expectations and lifelong crush on him.

She is successful and has the best friends a girl could ask for! Ellie and Lia are total girls girls and I love the way they support each other! Addy and Mackenzie are just so adorable and had my heart from the get go! I absolutely loved this book and these characters! I cannot wait for book 2 because now I need Liam and Ellie’s story!! 4.5 stars rolled up to 5.

Under My Skin by Brittany Bennett is a heartwarming small-town romance that delivers all the cozy, feel-good vibes. The story follows Lizzie, the quintessential girl next door, who has harbored a lifelong crush on Cameron—the charming football star who once seemed out of reach. Now, years later, Cameron has returned to Brantley Falls as a single dad, and the chemistry between them is undeniable.

This book beautifully blends the childhood crush trope with an age-gap romance, creating a dynamic that feels both nostalgic and fresh. Lizzie and Cameron’s interactions are filled with warmth, longing, and a touch of angst, making their journey from friendship to love incredibly satisfying. The small-town setting adds an extra layer of charm, making this a perfect comfort read.

If you’re looking for a sweet, swoon-worthy romance with a guaranteed happily ever after, this is it.

When the one you’ve always wanted sees you!

Lizzie has loved her next door neighbor her whole life! He’s older and of course gorgeous. Although when you’re a teenager seeing the boy you want for yourself with everyone but you hurts. But as you watch him grow into a man and he still not see you, that hurts even more.

Cameron has always known Lizzie as the sweet young girl next door. Until he comes home trying to figure where his life is going next. Recently divorced with 2 beautiful daughters and dealing with the loss of his father, he is struggling and can’t seem to get his heart/feelings and mouth to all do the same thing..

I really enjoyed this small town romcom. Lizzie is the girl next door who is in love with the older boy next door. Cameron is a recently divorced single dad of two girls who just moved back home.

Lizzie is no longer the little girl next door Cameron remembers. She is a grown woman who he can not stop fantasizing about. She wants more but he keeps his distance. His wishy washy "should I or shouldn't I" make you root for Lizzie while she shows him what he's missing.

Slow burn with just enough spice to want more. Easy and enjoyable read.

I'm looking forward to reading book 2. :)

This was my first book by Brittany Bennett and it won’t be my last! This one was super cute! Small town, girl next door romance 🥰 Cameron was perfection once he made up his mind lol I felt the same frustration Lizzie did with him 🤣 I loved watching Cameron finally find himself and I love how Lizzie was there to push him into believing in himself. The plot was good, the characters were fun and relatable, and I love me an age gap romance 🤭 The bonus epilogue was adorable 🥰 Overall I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the second one!

Thank you for providing me with an ARC of Under My Skin! It was absolutely a warm and fuzzy read. I loved the characters all so much (except of course the ex wife, but she was minor). The story itself was adorable and the spice was just enough. I do feel like Lizzie deserved to have a bit more confidence, but I’m thrilled that all of her fantasies came true. Some of Cam’s thoughts/worries were a little repetitive but I’m glad I got to hear from both sides. I will of course be reading book 2, especially after what the epilogue revealed!

I Love Lizzie, she’s your almost typical girl next door (except she doesn’t understand how gorgeous she is) Cam is a single dad recently divorced and also 10 years older (love a good age gap) . the book is a slow burn with a spice level of 🌶️🌶️. I will say however I feel like the mmm should have learned a longer lesson ( 2 days wasn’t enough ) lol . overall great book to cozy up with . Thank you for choosing me as one of your Arc Readers

This book was a great single dad/ girl next door read. After a horrid marriage and sports related injury that cost his career, Cameron moves back home with his small daughters. Right next door to Lizzie, the 10 year younger neighbor who's always had a crush on him. Through some funny events and not so funny mishaps, can fate seem to bring them together? I love a good single dad book. I loved how the girls egged on the relationship. plus all the sexual tension.....I am here for it.
