Avery Shaw finds trouble wherever she goes. That’s why, when two rival biker gangs start throwing threats at one another after one member is found dead, she can’t help but insert herself into the situation.
Avery lives by the motto “trust no one” but it’s especially hard to figure out who she should be looking at when she’s convinced everybody is lying to her. The threats are flying fast and furious, and absolutely nobody wants Avery involved in any aspect of this case.
That only excites her more.
When Avery finds out a secret about the dead man that she’s absolutely not supposed to know, she finds herself holding a lot of cards. She just can’t figure out what game she’s playing.
Her husband Eliot wants her to admit defeat—he knows this world better than she ever could, and he’s afraid for his mouthy wife—but Avery Shaw doesn’t lose to anybody.
She’s determined to find answers. When the danger strikes close to home, targeting a member of her family, she knows she’s in too deep. Unfortunately for everybody, it’s too late for her to get out.
Engines will be revving, bullets will be flying, and Avery Shaw will be mouthing off. Will she survive to find the answers she so desperately wants?
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
There is no better reporter. She takes all the risks and uses her powers for good. Her family is crazy and that's where she learned how to think on her toes. She owns who she is and some respect her for it. Never who you might expect but that's reality.
Even the titles of the books in this series are really neat. The theme this time is biker gangs and of all people to be covering one of them it's Duncan!
There's a murder, of course, and Avery is on the case by checking out two biker gangs, one black and one white and learns a great deal about how the gangs work. There's another murder, she finds out something very interesting about Eliot's background and while all of this is going on Lexie has a new sort-of boyfriend who is areal major thug loser and Avery is trying to get Lexie to realize just what is going on.
As usual the characters are all well done, the things that happen seem to be rather realistic and the outcome is as good as always.
I like Avery. I couldn’t live with how brash she is but perhaps she reminds me a bit of myself when I was a lot younger. Avery always sniffs out great stories and manages to find out the scoops before most anyone. She knows a lot of people and talks to everyone necessary to solve the crimes she needs to break the story. This time involves an undercover Fed in a Motorcycle club. He is found stabbed to death. Avery figures out pretty quickly who must have killed the agent but then must find proof. The bonus, her article overshadowing her rival reporters article in their newspaper. I look forward to reading the next book.
I love Avery. She is my spirit animal. I really like the way she, Elliot, and Jake have evolved. She still has to be right, get her story, and drive Jake crazy, but she’s a little less reckless about it. I don’t want to say much about the story and give anything away, so I’m sticking with it’s another great Avery adventure worthy of reading. One of the funniest parts was Duncan telling some of the awful things Avery has done to him. I was full on laughing.
I love her snark, I love her attitude. Every Avery Shaw book I read I think is the best so far. Well this one is the bestest! It was exciting, a bit dangerous, & a few times I laughed so hard I had tears running down my face. Only Avery can do this to me. The only thing I missed were the pool ducks & Tad, but I did get Duncan the tool. Well gotta go & get me a coney dog! Can’t wait for the next book.
I love Avery Shaw!! She is manipulating, snarky, sarcastic and intelligent! I love her relentless pursuit of finding the answers to the big stories she is working on. This book was a great addition to the series. This story highlighted Avery's fearlessness and her winning attitude, at all costs to get what she wants. Add the series to your must reads but I strongly urge everyone to read the books in order to see all the relationships on how they have been created.
This one was funny and smart. As Avery character books usually are. Not going to lie I feel bad about her cousin Lexie character. You can see the character of Avery growing, as are the people around her mostly. Except Lexie. Poor Lexie is stuck. I don't want to suggest to author, but it seems as though she needs a push to grow. Or sad ending, because real life it would go that way. This isn't real life though so she needs a change, or a sad end.
I love this series. Avery is one of my favorite characters from this author. Each character in this series brings unique and usually funny banter. I love the snark. Avery has really grown over the course of the series. I hope it continues for many more adventures.
As always the author hit a new standard with her skills. This series is one of my favorites and I truly hope this one is never retired. Avery and Eliot never fail to amaze and entertain! For those that need to know this is absolutely family friendly and most definitely collection worthy!
How does one snarky women find herself working two bike gangs for information? By being Avery Shaw. With a knack for being in the right place at the right time and the right place at the wrong time, she still manages to pull off a huge information grab. When Duncan is also trying for the same territory, does it mean he will be able to finally push her out?
I absolutely adore Amanda M. Lee and I will read her Avery Shaw books forever and forever. But I'm sorry to say, I just wasn't feeling good about this one. I'm not sure what was wrong or what was missing, but I didn't finish the last chapter thinking I had just read the best Avery book ever. Maybe it was me. Anyway, I still can't wait for the next book!!!!
Avery got her big story, but with the price of having a family member mad at her. Was it worth it? She had good intentions towards her cousin, but where they for her benefit or for Lexies? Well have to see in the next story. This one had a lot of heart! On to the next adventure!😉💚💙
If you had any doubts that Avery Shaw would get her way, this book would convince you otherwise. This book was funny, a little sad, and full of sarcasm. I loved Melba’s comments, Mario’s sense of humor, and even Andre’s appreciation for Avery. I read this in one sitting, and can’t wait for the next in series.
Wow. Avery is so good, sneaky, ambitious, wonderfully funny. I don't know how Elliot doesn't go crazy. Her reporting or snooping skills are remarkable.
This book was hard to put down once I started. Avery is a unique character and you never know what she is going to do or say next. Lots of laughs, oh my's, and suspense throughout.
Oh Avery how I missed you and your snarkiness! in true Amanda M. Lee fashion, Avery and her "gut" feelings led her on an exciting story lead that ended with a truly fantabulous(yes it's a word!) ending.
There is never a dull moment in this series of stories and this is no exception. The characters are entertaining in the way they interact with one another as mystery plot thickens.
I really love this series. I wish the new books would come out faster. This is the only series I read by this author. I am so ready to read the next one!
Avery is such a hero. This book will keep you smiling and laughing out loud. Avery get the scoop and solves the mystery. I can’t wait to see what she gets into next.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
