Make a bargain—or let the shadows consume you. Which will it be?
In the frostbitten kingdom of Elvir, Anelize Yarrow has spent her life as an apothecary in her father’s shop tending to those struggling with an ever-growing, unexplained malady. Determined to find a cure in the hopes of putting a stop to it once and for all.
That all changes one night after she rescues a mysterious, wounded stranger with eyes the color of starlight. A decision that will have consequences when she’s hunted down and the wicked threads of dark magic wind tightly around her very soul. Stealing the one thing she cares about most.
With time slipping from her fingers, Anelize will have no choice but to set off in search of answers if she wants to lift the curse cast upon her. Even if that means allying herself with the one responsible for plunging her into darkness in the first place.

A few months ago, I saw a reel about this book and immediately added it to my TBR — and WOW, I’m so glad I did because this book was AMAZING! A brand-new world, a unique magic system, an intriguing plot, and a cast of characters you instantly fall in love with… all from a debut author?! Simply perfect.
Anya, our FMC, is such a strong, resilient, fierce woman, but she’s also willing to open her heart — and I adored that about her. The bond she has with her sister was so beautiful, and it reminded me so much of my older sister 🥺 Aaric, our MMC, completely stole my heart. His resilience, the way he keeps smiling and finding light even when the world tries to destroy him… ugh, I LOVED his heart. And the way he loves Anya? Perfection. The romance may be a subplot, but it’s beautiful, and I cherished those sweet and romantic moments. And let me tell you, the slow burn was worth every second. You can feel the yearning and the love pouring out from this man. Also, the found family in this book is chef’s kiss. I loved Idris, Adan, and Castian and can't wait to read more of them.
The plot had me hooked, especially in those last few chapters. The tension, the reveals, THE CLIFFHANGER?! I’m still not okay 😭🔥I’ll be honest, it took me a bit to fully settle into the story at the beginning, but I also had a lot going on personally. I kept going because it sounded so good, and THANK GOODNESS I did because it absolutely delivered.
I’m itching to dive into book two — I just KNOW it’s going to get even better from here 😭🖤
Thank you so much Rose Marie for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
4✨ I loved this!!! This is one of those books that felt like a movie in my head with vivid scenes, thrilling action, and palpable tension. With the way Rose Marie wrote some of the moments in the book, I felt myself sliding to the edge of my seat and holding by breath in anticipation. It truly had me sucked in and I didn’t want to stop reading.
It had a classic romantasy feel with a lot of the elements we know and love but they still felt like they were their own.
One of the strongest points of this book was how much it made me feel, which is one of the most important things to me as a reader. There were times I was sweating, wanting to scream, and I definitely shed some tears. Along with some very heartwarming and utterly romantic moments. Truly a whole rollercoaster of emotion!
I surprisingly think Adan and Castian were my favorite characters - like I LOVED them - even though they are side characters and I think it’s because they were the most complex to me. They really drew me in and made me invested and hungry to learn more about them. The found family element was so good.
Some of my critiques: •The romance - for me, I thought the slow burn and building up of tension between them was extremely effective until suddenly it went like 25 to 100 emotionally. I think it would’ve benefitted from being a bit more gradual with more time to build the chemistry and some more push and pull. because after that point it lost its believability for me. I do understand why it wasn’t though so I think this is also probably just more of a personal preference. Most people will probably be fine with it but it was just *almost* there for me.
•The structuring of some sentences felt a bit off at times - I would have to go back and re-read in order to ground myself and figure out where we were or who was saying what. how the sequence of events was structured in the sentences made it confusing sometimes if that makes sense
•I could also tell when we were in moments the author loved writing where there was so much care and passion poured into them but then others felt a little rushed and skated over, so there was just a bit of notable inconsistency for me
That ending though. I need book two so bad and I can’t wait to continue on with this series! ✨
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read and review this ARC ✨
Do you know that feeling when you finally read your anticipated book and it delivers? uGh I can’t even begin to explain how much I love this book.
If I’m being honest, the first 50 pages had me questioning a lot of things, but I’m glad I stuck with it because the revelations started unfolding as the story progressed, and I literally couldn’t put it down 🙂↕️🙌🏻 (I really need to work on my patience though)
This book is pure perfection‼️ The author captured the gothic vibe so well, and the pacing was just right that I didn’t even peek at the next chapters to see what would happen next 😌 The intricate magic system and the well-woven backstory had me in awe every time I learned something new. I love how smoothly the story flowed, and I swear the last three chapters were so intense I couldn’t sit still while reading the ending 😮💨
The twist unfolded in a way I never saw coming, like HOW COULD THE ONES I’VE COME TO CARE ABOUT DID THAT?? AGGHH 😖 I can’t even imagine how devastated Anya must have felt when all of that happened, especially since it was so unexpected. I genuinely can’t predict what will happen in the next book, and I’m really looking forward to it! 🤩
And despite being just a subplot, the romance had me screaming, grinning, giggling, and kicking my feet AHHH 💖 I love Anelize and Aeric sm!! Their dynamic, paired with the slow burn and the forced proximity, is just *chef’s kiss* Even thinking about them makes me feel giddy 😆 The hair-braiding scene and the moment Aeric dropped to his knee to tend to Anya are forever engraved in the back of my mind ✍️
Aeric literally held himself back from being too forward with Anya, but the moment their hearts finally leaned toward each other?? 😮💨❤️🔥 You can feel his overflowing affection for her, and he was so ready to sacrifice everything for her 😖💘
I admit I don’t have one specific fav character, I just love all of them equally. They found safety and solace in each other, and eventually became a family. And even though Anya and Adan bicker nonstop, I still really love their relationship 🥺
That being said, if you’re looking for a gothic fantasy with just the right pinch of romance, consider this your sign to pick up this book! Thank you, Rose Marie, for giving me the chance to devour this amazing work 😋
Wicked Thieves completely swept me away from the very first page. The gothic atmosphere is so richly done that it seeps into every scene, and the pacing is immaculate—I was so immersed that I never once felt the urge to skip ahead. The magic system is layered and fascinating, and each reveal about the world and its history only pulled me deeper into the story. By the final chapters, the tension was so intense I physically couldn’t sit still, and the twist left me genuinely stunned in the best way possible. I was heartbroken right alongside Anya, especially knowing how deeply she trusted those around her.
What truly made this story shine, though, was the characters. Anya is strong, fiercely protective, and emotionally compelling, and watching her grow into her power with the support of her found family was incredibly rewarding. The found family dynamic itself was executed beautifully—messy, heartfelt, and real. Even the constant bickering between Anya and Adan added so much depth and warmth to their evolving bond.
And then there’s the romance. Though it’s a subplot, it absolutely stole my heart. The slow burn, the forced proximity, the quiet yearning—it was all perfection. Aeric is officially a top-tier book boyfriend, and the way he holds back, only to completely unravel when his feelings for Anya become undeniable, had me melting. Every tender moment between them, from small acts of care to deeply emotional confessions, is etched into my mind.
Wicked Thieves is dark, atmospheric, emotional, and addictive—especially impressive as a debut. If you love gothic fantasy with intricate magic, devastating twists, found family, and just the right touch of romance, this book deserves a spot at the top of your TBR.
It was pretty good! I went in knowing basically nothing and since the synopsis is also pretty vague I wasn’t sure what to expect but overall I liked it.
I absolutely loved Anelize’s powers. It brought in elements of blood bending but also pain illusion (it wasn’t illusion obviously it was real but I got kinda those vibes) which I feel is so rare in fantasy books with magic so i absolutely loved it. I also liked the concept of Enid’s powers and thought that those two were very original and interesting. The magic system is definitely unique but I found it a little confusing at times but hopefully there is more development as the series goes on.
I loved the sister bond and thought they were both so lovely. I liked the found family aspect that is developing and hope to see more of that as the series goes on as well. I thought the characters were all written well and I liked most of them a lot and really hope there is more of them.
The romance was well developed as well and I loved anytime Aeric and Anelize were in the page together. It was very clear from the moment they met that they cared for each other immensely (even when they were “enemies”. This was advertised as “slow burn” which it was at the beginning but then sped up pretty quickly which I didn’t really mind but if it was advertised as slow burn I could see how some may not like it. They definitely need some kind of conflict as the series goes on though so hopefully we see some angst or something. The one thing I really didn’t like was Aeric’s nickname for Anelize. It was just kinda cringe I’m sorry it needs to go.
I was not expecting the twist at all so that was a nice surprise and kept the book feeling fresh.
This was a solid 4 star read for me!! I found the start of the book pretty slow and it took me a minute to fully settle into the world building but what a fun read this was! I enjoyed the writing of this book but did feel like I needed to re-read sentences sometimes just because the wording didn’t sit right. Other than those two things, this was an absolute delight to read. I love gothic fantasies and this has definitely joined my list of favorites.
I thought the magic system in this book was super interesting! Using the usual magic types we always see in fantasy novels but making it fresh by it being blood magic is so cool! Following Anelize (aka Anya) as an apothecary and learning that her power is the complete opposite of what she’s spent her life doing was a fun thing to learn! And that she doesn’t just throw being an apothecary away and continues to heal people while training her magic. Anya’s sister Enid was such a light on the pages, I wish there was more of her throughout the book but when she was on page she was a delight to read! I really enjoyed all the side characters but truly my fav was Adan, I think because we spend so much time with him while Anya does her training, it really endeared me to him. That being said I really think Aeric is such a good counterpart to Anya! I loved their banter, I just wish they had more time together to really develop their chemistry!
I would definitely recommend picking up this book, especially after that ending!! Thank you again to Rose Marie for the arc of this book!
I will admit, I thought the pacing of the story was a little slow at times, but still easy to read and get into. While the prose was beautiful, there were moments where the writing style and grammar issues did clash, and I would have to restart the sentence to make sure I was following along correctly. That was the only time I was pulled away and confused. Nevertheless, I was always sucked back into the world. This book is a gothic fantasy with slow burn, found family, and cursed blood magic! The premise was so interesting!
Our badass FMC Anelize (Anya) was amazing. She’s strong, mature, and independent! Her abilities as an apothecary were highlighted, which I enjoyed because I felt like FMCs that start to use their magic decide to throw away whatever skills they previously had. Instead, Anya continues to use her medicinal skills (so we get some "let me treat your wounds" moments) while also training her magic and becoming stronger. I love her relationship with her sister, which remains consistent throughout the book.
Now whyyyy do I kinda like Adan more than Aeric (maybe for myself hehe). That isn’t to say our MMC Aeric isn’t swoon worthy!! Their banter is so cute and funny, and yeah this man YEARNS.
Overall, a solid book, and I just think that cliffhanger at the end was ILLEGAL! I'll be here to pick up everyone's dropped jaws!
Thank you to the author for a copy of this eARC! All honest thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wicked Thieves was absolute PERFECTION!❤️🔥❤️🔥 I love Rose Marie and her writing so much, and when I saw she was releasing a fantasy book, I knew I HAD to have an arc, and I am so grateful to have gotten one.🥹
I enjoyed this book from page one! Anya is so strong and I love how she protects those she cares for.🥹 Her sister, Enid, is pure sunshine and their sibling bond is so special.❤️ I loved seeing Anya’s growth as she learns to grow and control her powers, becoming more and more comfortable with who she is, with the help of Aeric and her found family.🤭
AERIC!! He is my new book boyfriend!🔥🔥 The yearning this man has for Anya.😮💨 Their banter and tension was EVERYTHING and I did a happy dance when they finally kissed!❤️ Aeric has a lot of layers to him at first but when he shared his story with Anya, my heart broke for him.🥺
The found family trope is one of my favourites and Rose Marie executed it so well. Adan and Anya did not like each other one bit, but as Adan trained her, they grew on each other.😂 I love Castian and it warmed my heart when Anya helped him with his sickness and he has been gentle with Anya since the moment they met.🥹 I love Idris, Adan’s brother, too! I love how funny he is and how he and Anya formed a friendship immediately after they met.❤️
The plot was so gooooood! I did not want to put this book down.🤭 I truly had the BEST time reading this book and can’t wait for Rose Marie’s next one!❤️
ARC review - thank you to Rose Marie for the early access!
There is nothing I love more than a well-executed fantasy, but knowing that this is a debut is even more remarkable. Wicked Thieves is dark, twisted, and wickedly good in all the best ways possible. The best way I can describe this book is genuinely like how a Rachel Gillig book reads - in a fantasy world that is completely unique to the author and feels genuinely independent of any other fantasy storyline, trope, etc., that exists elsewhere in the genre.
The characters were vibrant, especially the main two - Analize and Aeric - but there were so many twists and turns that you weren't sure which others within the story were trustworthy. I truly loved every facet of Wicked Thieves and cannot WAIT for the next installment. It's truly one of the best fantasies I've read in 2025 and will definitely have a lasting impression on me going into the new year.
This is the type of story that makes you remember why you love fantasy. I was captivated by the world of Elvir from the first chapter alone, the world building so articulate and easy to find oneself lost within. It would be impossible for me to encapsulate the many reasons why this book is so special to me as it checks off so many attributes I look for in such stories. But if you are a reader who loves yearning, found family, heists—and even micro tropes such as tending to one’s wounds, MEN WHO BRAID HAIR, this one is definitely for you. Don’t let me forget to add this will have you finding a new favorite MMC to fawn over, Aeric is perfection personified. The twist at the end I NEVER saw coming, I still can’t believe what transpired within the last 5% of this book. I may need emotional support honestly. All I know for sure is I need book two as soon as humanly possible!
Okay so here’s the thing, this book was good, it just needs some more TLC.
It’s 80% done but it’s that 20% that’s getting to me. The 80% is: - good and clear characters - world building framework in a mature phase - definitely was edited - clear author voice - unique/new concept - the books written
The 20% that needs some work: - fleshing out the characters more. I didn’t connect with them as much as I wanted. - flesh out the world building. More details, paint a clearer picture. It’s so close to being there. - another editing pass to catch repeated words and phrases.
Again, this is a very good book, but it needs some work.
Also, that ending! It felt like that was the author’s starting point. It was the best written and sort of my favorite part.
Hello dear reader, thank you so much for choosing to read Wicked Thieves! It means the world to me. I have been working on this book for four years, and now that it is finally out and people are reading it, it feels so surreal. Thank you ❤️
I'm really glad I discovered this book. Lately, so many hyped-up books just don't live up to the buzz. This one isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but it brings a fresh breath of air. The plot won't feel flat or clichéd, and it'll make for a couple of genuinely enjoyable evenings.
"You think of yourself as ruination. But you are the furthest thing from it. You are my salvation, and you don’t even see it. The way I’d gladly fall to my knees before you. Let you ruin me if you so wished."
I was lucky to receive an ARC of Rose Marie's newest book, Wicked Thieves (book one in the Weaver’s Reckoning Series). It follows the story of Anelize and Aeric.
I was nervous and excited to try something different from Rose with her adult fantasy debut, but let me tell you, she does not disappoint.
Rose is an amazing storyteller, and I completely lost myself in Anelize and Aeric's story. I could not put it down!
I loved everything about Anelize and Aeric's story and thought they were perfect together.
I do not want to give too much away about Anelize and Aeric's story because you need to read and experience it yourself.
I can not wait to read the next book in the Weaver’s Reckoning Series!
