Review: The Qur’an Code by Hamzah Abdul-Malik
The Qur’an Code offers a concise yet meaningful guide to understanding the core messages behind verses about the Hereafter, Paradise, and Hell. Many of us may have completed the Qur’an multiple times, especially the shorter surahs in Juz Amma, but this book encourages us to go deeper — to truly understand what those powerful, warning-filled verses are communicating.
The author focuses on Juz Amma (Juz 30), presenting it as a compact yet profound message for those who may struggle to absorb or memorise the longer surahs of the Qur’an. Indeed, Juz Amma feels like a special gift from Allah SWT to Rasulullah SAW and his ummah — short surahs, but rich with reminders, warnings, and hope.
Each surah is thoughtfully broken down into:
✅️The main theme of the surah
✅️The connection between the surah before and after
✅️The historical situation faced by Rasulullah SAW and the early Muslims
✅️A concise explanation of the surah’s core message.
To truly get the “juicy” essence of each chapter, the key often lies in the thematic introduction at the beginning of every surah. That is where much of the decoding begins. Of course, each reader may discover different insights in different sections — it depends on your own pace and reflection.
For me, the reading process was a bit slow because some English terms required me to check the dictionary. But that effort was worth it. Without understanding the vocabulary, it would be difficult to grasp the depth of what the author is trying to convey.
Overall, it is a thin yet intellectually enriching book — a meaningful Ramadan read. It invites reflection, especially through its emphasis on reminders and warnings about the Hereafter.
