This volume lifts the lid on the secret life of soccer. Among the issues, Radio 5 Live's "On The Line" team exposes the ruthless agents who leave players destitute and homeless, the incompetent Premier League physiotherapists, and the hooligans who terrorize tiny non-league clubs.
This book about the darker side of football (hooliganism, wasted money, dodgy deals, cheating, flaws in the management systems etc.) was certainly well-researched and written about in depth and with passion. I didn't enjoy it all that much, however, firstly because it wasn't enjoyable or relaxing (in the same way as a good story would be) and secondly because it all seemed a touch 'sour grapes', sports journalists complaining about the unfairness of what provides their employment - coming over picky and grudging.
