Bounced from one foster home to another, Sarah Churchill learned early that love is conditional and nothing is free. Not even the homeless dog she accidentally runs over.
Veterinarian Grant Morrison is a sucker for strays, both the four-legged kind and the two-legged kind. So when a blonde walks into his office with an injured dog, he does the only thing he knows how to do and stitches up the dog for free.
But Sarah has her pride. Determined never to be a charity case again, she won't accept the service and insists on working at the clinic to pay for the bill.
Can one man and one big, furry dog break down the wall of hurt and distrust and show Sarah the true meaning of happiness and unconditional love?
Healing Hearts by Kim Watters was free on Kindle, so I decided to read it. I'm also a sucker for any story that has animals involved, especially when it comes to puppies or kittens. As a self-published book, I was impressed because Kim’s writing has an endearing quality to it.
Sarah Churchill can barely makes end meet. As a former foster child, she has major trust issues, and feels unloved and unworthy. While riding her bike, she hits a stray puppy. She takes the puppy to the local vet even though she won’t be able to pay for any of the bills. There she meets the very kind and handsome, doctor Grant Morrison who allows Sarah to pay off the bill by working for him. Grant isn’t sure what to think of Sarah because she seems a bit ditzy and not at all comfortable around people. Plus, she doesn’t have room in her life for a dog. But Grant is able to convince her to take in the stray, which she names Rocky, after her dream man, Rocky Balboa.
Rocky is a handful and drives Sarah crazy, but Grant helps Sarah, to her surprise. Soon Grant and Sarah become good friends. Sarah is falling in love with Grant but she can’t allow her feelings to get anymore involved than they are because of her criminal past. Grant has this idea that Sarah is wholesome and everything innocent and good, but his nosy aunt and sister thinks Sarah is using him. Grant doesn't care and slowly courts her so she’ll never think of leaving him even when the going gets really tough.
Healing Hearts was a pleasant story and Sarah and Grant have great chemistry. This is more of a G-rated romance teens would enjoy as well. There’s a lot of animal love here, including the adorable antics of Rocky that brings Sarah and Grant together. If you’re a fan of the heroine who has had a rough life and finds love with the honorable and handsome hero, I would give this one a try.
Healing Hearts by Kim Watters Sarah Churchill has lived in Greer for three months now, it's actually beginning to feel like home. If her past don’t' catch up to her, she can stay. After hitting a pup and rushing him to the local Veterinarian, Grant Morrison, her life begins to change. Going from foster home to foster home she learned to put up walls and not trust anyone but Grant talks her into keeping the pup, and having a dog cracks those walls open a bit. Being around Grant opens them even further. Sarah can't abandon Rocky, the dog, no matter what he does because she relates it to the many times she herself felt abandoned.
Grant quickly realizes that Sarah needs this pup as much as it needs a home. She is as skittish as the wild cat outside he's trying to catch. Being the softy he is, not does he only have a house full of dogs, cats, rabbits and a pregnant ferret but now he wants to rescue Sarah too, if only he can get her to open up about what has hurt her so badly.
This is such a touching story in so many ways. Definitely a 'might need those Kleenex nearby' story. Healing Hearts is in ebook only. Previously published as Home at Last. http://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com/...
This is one of the cutest stories I'he ever read. I'm not used to read this type of books, but it intriguied me. The plot was really sweet and nice, she found an abandoned dog and he was a vet so they met in a very casual way.
I must admit that there were plenty of moments in which the story felt too unreal, too perfect and ethereal. Its hard for me to accept pefect happy endings, and this book has too much of invented not-real parts, which could have been better.
I loved how she describes her unconditional love towards the dog and how he, despite the fact that he's an animal, played an important role in the story. He is a nice lovable character.
I hated how easily they fell for each other, right from the start, without anything to stop them but a not-so-good-looking police report. I loved his family from the start, and I think it was really cute their relationship.
I recommend this book if you'be ever given or received love of any kind.
The book was out of my usual genre, but then that's my goal, to read more types of books! The story was cutesy, and sweet. Girl has tough childhood, can't depend on anyone, this toughens her. She meet vet through stray dog she hits and sparks fly. I liked the book, really did. Was an easy read that distracts from your own mundane day or problems. Whichever you need distraction from! I would recommend it for anyone. Even young girls who are into reading love stories. I got this book free from Amazon.com, on my ipad.
This was a really cute story and Grant sound like a man every woman would love to meet and the price was excellent. But even if this is a self published book, someone should proof read the darned thing! The gramar and typos got to me in areas, in that I had to re-read some of the sentences twice. I was able to over look this due to the fact that is was a free book and the story line was excellent.
This book is super cute.It really makes your heart squeeze when you read about Poor Sarahs childhood.Grant is just like the perfect guy as well. Its really a great read!
Cute story, loved the premise. It was only 184 pages so it could have been developed more to give it some depth. Characters as written were enjoyable and the book a fun read.
