This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Colby Agency: The Next Generation Book series. I have not read the first book in this series before picking up this book. I read this book by listening to the audiobook, and I liked the narrator. This book was fast paced with suspense and action with a little of romance. I enjoyed reading this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.
Thanks to Netgally and the publisher for an advanced copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review! This story opens when Allie is presented with a video that shows her outside the hospital door of a patient right before he gets murdered. Allie worked at the hospital a decade ago, and since she knows she was at home during the time the murder was committed, she assumes the video is old. The FBI agents at her door are not so sure. When I read the blurb for this book, I thought it would be something I would enjoy. Unfortunately it fell flat for me. I kept waiting for something to happen or get my heart rate up, but that never happened. I thought the story was a little boring, and I didn't really care for either of the main characters. Their blossoming romance seemed forced and just uninteresting. I will say that there was a twist at the end that was unexpected, and I'm unsure if I had reas this instead of listening to the audio whether I may have enjoyed it more. That's why I'm rounding up from 2.5 stars to 3.. if you normally enjoy books by Debra Webb, you'll probably enjoy this one too. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
I love all things "Debra Webb'. This book was wonderful, and as a nurse who also prefers home to being out in the world, I could relate.
Allie has had a difficult life, but her grandparents made it as good as possible. She doesn't know her past has secrets until it's too late and she is plunged into finding the answers to save her own skin. The only person she can trust is someone from her past.
Steve hasn't kept up with Allie but he doesn't hesitate to jump in and help when she calls. The Colby Agency where he works is top notch and he knows he will have there full support in helping Allie out this mess.
Can they find the answers together before she ends up in jail, or worse, dead?
So, this was sweet! And twisted... and scary... and makes you really think about all that can happen to a normal, average person if someone wants to put an end to life as you know it... Then add in a little factor of AI... and well, the whole thing goes into a tailspin!
Allie lives a very quiet life. As a matter of fact, she doesn't really leave home much anymore. In the past, she worked as a nurse, and had a pretty good life. But since the loss of her parents and her grandma, well, things just have never been the same...
So when she is accused of killing a man in the hospital, when she herself has not been IN the hospital for many years now, well, she realizes that she is going to need some help. And so she reaches out to an old HS friend, Steve, who is an attorney, and promises to help in any way he can.
Steve has no idea what he is getting himself into though, and neither does Allie.
This was so sweeet in its own way, and I really enjoyed the parts that were not miserable! LOL! But the scheming and double crossing ways of some of the players was just not nice! And lets just say...the boy... well, my heart was just breaking!
4 1/2 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💫 for me, happily rounded up to 5!!
#AlibiForMurder by @DebraWebb and narrated very nicely by @MeganTusing.

The latest Colby Agency book has so many head-spinning twists and turns that it had me wondering what would happen next, and I loved playing the guessing game as I read. Allie Foster becomes a suspect in the murder of a man she never met before, but he does have a past relationship with her deceased parents. She calls on her friend, Steve Durham who is an attorney with the Colby Agency and he rushes to assist her. In the investigation that the two of them pursue, they discover secrets that have remained hidden for decades and someone wants them to remain hidden. Thus their lives are in danger from an unknown assailant who seems to know where they will be and the clues that they are following. The assailant was a total surprise to me when revealed, even though I will admit that there were numerous clues pointing to him/her hidden among the red herrings that the author masterfully included. The plot is fast-paces, intricately woven together with the past playing an important part in the current problems that Allie is facing. The romance is a part of the story, but the main thrust of the book is the mystery and solving Allie’s dilemma before she is arrested by the FBI. This is part of a series, but it can easily be read and enjoyed as a standalone. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, but I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Allie foster must prove she didn't do it. She didn't murder, anyone proving her innocence will be a challenge. evidence leads to places no one could even imagine.

Alibi for Murder is the second title in the Colby Agency: The Next Generation series and brings us Allie’s and Steve’s intense, danger-filled romance.
The world, the life Allie thought she knew was shattered by a knock on her door by FBI agents accusing her of murder. Evidence of her standing outside of the deceased man’s hospital room seems to be convincing. Yet. She hadn’t been at that hospital for a very long time, and she knew that she was home alone when the murder took place. No alibi. So, she called the one man who could help her now, Steve, a lawyer with the Colby Investigation Agency. They are about to embark on a dangerous journey where almost everything in her life she was sure of comes into question. And if they cannot find answers soon, she’s going down for a murder she did not commit… if she can stay alive to prove herself innocent.
The tension, the suspense ratchets up from the opening page of Alibi for Murder and rarely lets up throughout the search for answers by Allie and Steve. I was fully engaged in their story, as lies pile up, red herrings are tossed, and unexpected twists kept me on my toes from the start to the finish of their story. If you love a good murder mystery, or watching a couple fall in love while trying desperately to solve that puzzle then you’d love Alibi for Murder by Debra Webb. It’s well-written, emotional, gripping, and ultimately satisfying as the bad guys are revealed.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Allie lost her parents in a car accident when she was four years old and was raised by her grandparents. They passed several years ago, leaving Allie alone in the world. She works from home and rarely leaves, which makes the FBI's visit even more unexpected. They have a video showing her outside the hospital room of a murdered man, a hospital she hasn't been in for five years. Allie realizes she'll need help clearing her name and reaches out to a high school friend.
Steve works as an attorney for the Colby Agency. He remembers Allie fondly as the tutor who got him through precal. He immediately offers to drive the hour to her home and hear what the issue is. I liked how he gave her his undivided attention and listened thoughtfully to her concerns. It was fortunate he was still there when the FBI agents returned.
The suspense of the story was very good. The victim was her father's coworker, and their investigation began by looking at her parents' lives before they died. The deeper they dig, the more questions they have. As they close in on some answers, someone is determined to keep their secrets buried. The twists and turns kept me hooked, while the escalating danger ramped up the intensity. The final confrontation, precipitated by a stupid decision by Allie, was a nail-biter. I had begun to suspect the identity of the perpetrator, but there was a creepy twist that I did not see coming.
The development of Allie and Steve's relationship was pretty laid back. They had good memories of each other, and being thrown together as they were gave them a chance to get to know each other as adults. The sparks of attraction were evident, but they put them on hold during the investigation. I liked the realistic ending instead of the more common "insta-love."
Allie Foster lost her parents in a car crash when she was four years old and was raised by her grandparents. Both deceased as well. She lives a solitary life until her life is turned upside down. The FBI turns up at her doorstep since she is considered a prime suspect to a crime. How could this be?? Desperate, Allie contacts an old childhood friend, who nowadays is a lawyer with the prestigious Colby Agency. Steve Durham is determined to help Allie. Why is she being targeted not only by the FBI but also by whomever has ransacked her home and wants to harm her? What are they after? As these two start investigating they unravel one mystery after another. Some starting during the time her parents were alive. As they try to figure out the what and why, the danger increases. This was an action packed story with a well developed plot and likable main characters. A true whodunit that will keep you guessing up to the end. Though part of a series , this is truly a stand alone worth your time. Lastly, Megan Tusing did a good job with the narration of the story. I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook by Netgalley and Harlequin Audio. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
What would you do if you’re home alone , you’re a bit of a recluse, and there’s a knock at the door and it’s the FBI? That’s what happened to Allie Foster. All is alone in the world. Her parents died in a car accident when she was four she was taken by her grandparents and they are gone now also. What is she to do? She has no family and no friends. She’s scared! She calls the only person that she can think of to help her. She went to school with Steve Durham. He is a lawyer with the Colby Investigation Agency. When Allie tells Steve, what is happening she is shocked when he says I’ll be right there! This is a mystery that definitely caught my interest from page one. My heart really went out to Allie. She has lived her whole life, thinking that her parents had a terrible accident to find out that they were actually murdered! This is the book that you’re gonna want to read. There is so much going on that you just cannot put it down. I was extremely stumped as to how it was gonna end. Great job Debra Webb!
Thank you to Debra Webb for this ARC in return for my honest review.
A current murder unearths secrets that were long ago buried, and has shattered everything Allie believed about her life.
When the FBI comes knocking on Allie's door, she is shocked to learn they are there because they have some pretty damning video evidence that she is responsible for a murder. Allie knows this is not true, but she also realizes that her knowing that she is innocent and proving her innocence will be a tall order. Enter an old friend, Steve Durham, of the Colby Agency. If anyone can help, the Colby Agency can do it.
From Steve and Allie's first meeting everything snowballed from that point forward with more questions than answers. The story intensified and the mystery got even more complex with every secret that was uncovered. Danger lurked around every corner as it seems someone will stop at nothing to keep the past buried.
The conclusion was red hot and beyond shocking, while also being more a little disturbing. Kudos to the author for mixing it up and leaving me wondering what just happened.
Thank you to Harlequin and the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I enjoyed the majority of this book, but the ending got a bit beyond imagination for me. I liked Allie's character, she's been through a lot in her life, losing her parents at age 4, raised by grandparents who have recently died, still living in the house. She stays at home most of the time, like many of us after the pandemic, very little contact with the outside world. But all that changes when one evening a knock at her door reveals 2 FBI agents!
Unsure of what to do with the FBI accusations, she turns to a high school friend now an attorney working for the Colby Agency. (While this story is part of the Colby series, it is also a standalone.) Steve remembers Allie and is happy to help. The two of them start investigating and are led down some very dangerous paths.
This was a quick read, great for a rainy day or beachside. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
The second installment of the Colby Agency is another captivating story not to be missed. Although it is part of a series, this definitely can be read as a stand-alone.
Allie Foster is being investigated for the murder of a man she never met. She has been very much alone and isolated from the town she lives but has found she badly needs some help navigating the situation she has been forced into. An old school friend from years ago who is a lawyer for the Colby agency, Steve Durham, is called upon to help clear her of wrongdoing. The two seem to have an attraction, but the case at hand must come first. The cat and mouse investigations is fast moving which keeps the pages turning to find out who is the real killer. Will they figure out the connection to her past or will the real killer catch up to Allie first?
Debra Webb knows how to write a story. From the very first page, she grabs your attention and never let's go until the very end. I highly recommend this book and any book she writes. Thank you to the author for this fantastic Arc for my honest review.
Allie Foster is struggling with the fact that she has become the prime suspect in a murder. Not sure why, and with relentless pressure from the police, she is desperate. This leads her to hire the Colby Agency to help her. Steve Durham is the investigating attorney that takes her case and, with clue after clue, the two discover striking similarities to something tragic from Allie’s past. However, all clues point to Allie being guilty of murder. While Allie will do anything to prove her innocence, right from the outset Steve is also certain of her innocence.
While the Colby Agency series ran over twenty years ago, I hadn’t read any of those books. I loved jumping into the offshoot of this series with A Colby Christmas Rescue, and I plan on staying with this series, especially if it becomes another long-running series like its predecessor. When you factor in the great narration by Megan Tusing, this was a very enjoyable read.
Many thanks to Harlequin Intrigue and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Rating: 4/5 Allie Foster was raised by her grandparents after her parents were killed in a car accident when she was young. Well.... at least she grew up believing it was an ACCIDENT. Allie's life turns upside down when the FBI turns up at her door one day with the warrant for her arrest for the murder of man who worked at the same company her father once worked at. They claim that she murdered him in revenge to her parents' deaths. When this happens, Allie calls up the only lawyer she knew, Steve Durham. The two of them must find a way to prove Allie's innocence AND find out the truth about who killed Allie's parents and why?!
This was an entertaining, short thriller. I enjoyed the character development and the twists in the plot! It was a pretty quick audiobook, so it's good for anyone wanting a fast-paced thriller. I just found out this is book #2 of eventually 4 books?? So, I would probably like the book even better if I had read the first one.
Alibi for murder is the second book in the Colby Agency: The Next Generation #2. This is the first book in the series I have read.
This story opens when Allie is presented with a video that shows her outside the hospital door of a patient right before he gets murdered. Allie worked at the hospital a decade ago, and since she knows she was at home during the time the murder was committed, she assumes the video is old. The FBI agents at her door have what appears to be the truth in their hands.
Allie was smart enough to keep them out of the house, since she recognizes she is being set up for a crime she didn't commit. She reaches out to Steve Durham, a lawyer from the Colby Agency and someone she used to know. Steve hasn't forgotten Allie and offers to come to her aid.
This is a fast-paced mystery that grabbed me from the first few pages. The conclusion was a bit fast for me. I thought it could have been delved into a little longer, but that is my opinion. I will certainly look for the next book in the series.
I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.
Alibi for Murder by Debra Webb is a fast-paced and well-crafted suspense mystery that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Allie’s quiet life is shattered when the FBI shows up at her door, accusing her of being involved in a murder. With nowhere else to turn, she reaches out to Steve, a childhood friend she hasn’t spoken to in years. Now an attorney with the elite Colby Agency, Steve steps in to help unravel the truth.
What follows is a tense and thrilling journey filled with buried secrets, hidden agendas, and unexpected twists. The mystery unfolds with just the right balance of action, emotion, and intrigue, building up to a final set of chapters that are full of surprises. If you enjoy strong characters and a gripping storyline, this book is a must-read!
Thank you to the author, NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book for review consideration. I am voluntarily leaving this review which is my honest, unbiased opinion.
When Allie Foster becomes the prime suspect in a murder, the small-town loner reaches out to the one person she can trust. Convinced Allie’s innocent, Colby Agency investigating attorney Steve Durham uncovers a shocking connection to a decades-old cold case in her past.
I enjoy Debra Webb’s books. They are quick reads and full of mystery. And this one is no different. I enjoyed the intensity and everything surrounding Allie and her dilemma. And trust me, she has some major issues she is dealing with.
However, one part of this story had me rolling my eyes…Allie had a “dumb character” moment. I actually posted a TikTok about it. Just know, if your house is on fire, you break the window. You do not try to find a pocket knife, figure out how to open it, while the smoke is swirling around you, and cut the paint on the window to open the window. Yes, I know this adds to the drama, but I swear I stopped my car at the end of my driveway and just put my head down.
But really, this story is full of intensity and it has great characters. There is also a lot of chemistry between the characters and this just keeps you reading.
The narrator, Megan Tusing, really kept the energy high. Plus her voices for the characters were distinct. This always makes the characters real!
Need a quick mystery…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.
I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.
Alibi for murder is another great addition to the Colby Agency Next Generation series by Debra Webb. Perfectly readable as a stand alone. When Allie Foster was only four years old she lost her parents in a car accident and is raised by her grandparents. Now with her grandparents also gone she has no one left. She is shocked when the FBI comes and it turns out that she is suspect to murder of a man she never met. She decides to ask her childhood friend Steve Durham, a lawyer working for the Colby Afency to help her. Together they start to investigate and have to dig into the past to find out what happend and why Allie became a suspect. Old secrets, cover ups and a lot of red herrings ! The plot is very intriguing and I loved Aliie and Steve and how they fell for each other. Lovely romance! I read it in one sitting and look forward to the next book in the Colby Agency series! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
“Alibi for murder” is another instalment in Colby Agency Next Generation. The series is always entertaining but this also works as a standalone. She was just a child of four when Allie Foster lost her parents in a car accident. As a result she was raised by her grandparents. Her grandparents have also now passed so Allie is on her own. Soon the FBI comes knocking and she’s shocked to find herself a suspect in a murder investigation. She doesn’t know the victim and has nowhere to turn to for help. Steve Durham was a childhood friend and is now a lawyer working for the Colby Agency. Allie decides to get in contact with him and asks for his help.
Steve is happy to help out his childhood friend and soon they begin to dig into Allie’s past for the answers. Debra Webb always takes you on plot twisting ride and this book does not disappoint. It’s great read that reveal cover ups, secrets and misdirection A quick and very enjoyable read. Search term: book in the Colby Agency series
I enjoyed the intensity and everything surrounding Allie and her past and present drama. The budding romance between Allie and her old friend Steve, was an added bonus.
This was not my first Debra Webb book, however, it was my first in this series. I didn't find myself connecting with the characters in the way that I have done with other series that she has written. I think that Allie was a little boring, and her insecurities made her seem like a weak character.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Audio, and Debra Webb for providing me with this ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Allie Foster’s parents die in a car accident when she was 4. She’s then raised by her grandparents. Allie went to college & became a nurse & One evening 2 FBI agents knock on her door & accuses her of murdering an older man Thomas Madison (he used to work at Ledwell with her deceased father)…they have a video of her entering the room,in the hospital she worked at a decade earlier! She swears she didn’t do it,she pretty much rarely leaves the house & works from home. She then reaches out to her high school friend Steve Durham, who’s a lawyer for the Colby Investigation Agency. They then unearth a whole bunch of hidden secrets & AI craziness! This is book #2 in the Colby Agency: The Next Generation, but it can easily be read as a stand-alone book. Do yourself a favor & grab a copy, release day is 8-26. Thank you Debra Elaine Webb for entertaining us.
Allie is surprised when the FBI show up at her house and accuse her of murder. The only person she can think of for help is Steve, a friend from high school, who now works for the Colby Agency. He agrees to come and help her figure out what is going on. They start by looking back at her parent's lives before they were killed when she was four. The more they dig into the past, the more questions and problems they encounter. Things take a drastic turn when he is arrested and her house is set on fire. They have obviously stumbled into something that someone is willing to go to great lengths to hide. The action and twists and turns in the story are excellent. The culprit and reason are ones I did not see coming and that makes it a really good read in my book. Highly recommend for anyone who likes a really good mystery.
Allie Foster starts vacation when she gets a knock on her door from the FBI accusing her for murder. She calls an old friend from school for help to clear her name. Steve Durham takes the call being the only one left at the office. When Allie tells him what is going on. She asked him if he will help her and if he can come right over. He tells her yes. They are looking into a cold case of her parent accident. They are put on a chase to find out what really happens and there finding new things. Will they find out what really happen? What happens between Allie and Steve? Debra is a fantastic writer! She writes stories that keeps you intrigued from the first page to the end of the story.
Allie Foster is looking forward to a quiet stay-cation when she's suddenly confronted by the FBI. She reaches out to a former friend for help who happens to work at the Colby Agency. This story represents a second generation of stories based around this private investigative agency.
There are a lot of question for Allie, such as how could the FBI have a video of her when she was never at that hospital? Current technologies come into play as Allie tries to not only save herself, but she also wants to find out what really happened to her parents, who seem to be involved as the case unfolds.
This was an easy-to-read, suspenseful story with romantic elements. While it was a bit predictable, it's the type of book I like to read between as an intermezzo between heavier stories. Debra Webb does not disappoint.
I actually figured out the “big twist” early on, but that didn’t make the story any less gripping. A murder mystery tangled with corporate intrigue propels the plot at a thrilling pace as the main characters race to uncover the truth behind her parents’ death and a shocking murder accusation. The tension is relentless, and the suspenseful details and character interactions make every chapter engaging.
While the outcome was a bit predictable, the clever plotting and dynamic characters kept me hooked from start to finish. It’s the kind of book that makes a rainy afternoon fly by—you’re turning pages, holding your breath, and eagerly watching the mystery unravel. I’d happily continue this series to see what comes next; overall, it’s a satisfying, suspense-filled read that keeps you guessing just enough.
An intriguing thriller! When the FBI show up on Allie Foster's doorstep, questioning her as their primary suspect in a murder investigation, she realizes she needs a lawyer, fast. Allie reaches out to an old friend, Steve Durham, who is an investigating attorney at the Colby Agency in Chicago. The victim was a colleague of Allie's father, but Allie's parents died 30 years ago, when she was four years old, so she doesn't even remember the man, let alone have any reason to kill him. As she and Steve dig into the victim's history, they realize there may be more of a connection to Allie's parents, and their accident decades ago may not have been an accident after all. This is a relatively short, quick read, with a twisty and fast-paced plot and likeable main characters.
Allie suspect in the murder that she had nothing to do with and with the help of Steve from Colby agency they will try to work together to figure out what's going on and how to prove her innocence but also finding out it also has to do with the death of her parents.
I really enjoyed this book there was so much going on that it kept me hooked from beginning to end. I loved watching as they tried to piece things together and clearly something bigger is going on and as closer as they got you can tell that the person I had of it was not happy about it. Then there was a whole thing about her parents in connection to what's going on so there was just so much going on that I had a hard time putting this book down I just wanted to know more. Overall pretty good book really enjoyed it.
