Award-winning author Margaret Moore actually began her career at the age of eight, when she and a friend concocted stories featuring a lovely, spirited damsel and a handsome, misunderstood thief nicknamed "The Red Sheik."
Unknowingly pursuing her destiny, Margaret graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. Margaret sold her first historical romance and the premiere book of her Warrior series, A WARRIOR'S HEART, to Harlequin Historicals® in 1991. A great read.

No one does such amazing medieval knights like Ms. Moore! She crafts a wonderful tale full of lavish details that just bring the era alive!!

When a strange knight comes to her home, Mavis flees fearing the worst: An arranged marriage! She is stopped in her tracks by said knight as she hears his voice talking to his horse, charmed she decides to be meet him properly first. At first sight she is amazed by his handsome face and strong warrior body......and secretly falls in love when she looks into his eyes. His eyes hide a caring side and a yearning for love. Believing they can make a good marriage she excepts him.

Roland can't believe his luck! He gets a nice beautiful lady wife that is well connected and rich plus passionate, so much more than he ever expected considering the damaged rep his dead father and elder brother left behind. As they make their long journey to his castle they slowly learn about one another and their unstoppable passion. His family's bad rep causes a few stumbles but Mavis sees that he is so much more than any of his family. Her defense of him makes Roland feels warm and happy inside. Can Mavis thaw her wounded cold warrior? Yes, she can!!!

A wonderfully written tale....just love these strong cold knights waiting for true love to unleash their warm caring side. Wonderful details jump right off the pages bringing this medieval time of knights and ladies alive.

Is it just me, or do most of Margaret Moore's books seem to feature the same characters, just with different names? 🤣 Especially the men. So two-dimensional!

3.5 stars Not as good as the first book - at least IMO

I personally didn't think this book was as good as the first book - Castle of the Wolf - that is not to say I didn't like this book, because I did. I just liked the first one better.

The blurb for this book doesn't really paint an entirely accurate overview of this book. Mavis and Roland are both insecure and suffer from low self esteem. Together they could have the love of a lifetime - but they both let their insecurities get in the way.

I hope the next book in the series features Gerrard. He was quite the character in this book and I would love to see him get a HEA

While I didn't like this book as much as the first book - it was still a good read and I would recommend it.

An enjoyable read though I didnt enjoy it as much as the first in the series. It was a story where asking a simple question would solve a lot of problems...communicate people. Still I like the characters and was pleased to find out that there was a follow up story involving the 'bad' brother

While the first book in this series nearly bored me to tears, this one, despite some flaws, was cute and sweet. Both the hero and heroine were likable and both were quite refreshing to read about in a genre often plagued with stereotypical character types.

I liked Mavis in the first book much better than her cousin (the heroine of said book), and this book confirmed my liking of her character even more. Mavis was a sweet, sensible and kickass heroine who stood up for the misunderstood man she loved but without the annoying hotheadedness/pridefulness that seems to plague most other heroines in similar stories.

Roland was really not your stereotypical hero at all - he was stoic, didn't like to talk all that much, and even found it annoying when others did talk too much (a rare introvert hero, yay?), but he was honorable, dutiful, loyal and had a kindness that many did not see or comprehend immediately. He was often unfairly judged based on the reputations of his horribly cruel and lecherous father and older brother His kindness/generosity was to a fault when it came to his twin brother, Gerrard. Despite all the pain and belittling he had constantly suffered from his brother (and from so many others too) since their childhood, so much that his self-esteem was to be one of his biggest monsters in this story, Roland refused to turn his brother out or fully give up on him.

Which brings to point that the beef of the drama, and the few fights between Mavis and Roland, tied mostly with Gerrard, who was honestly a real entitled, ungrateful dickwad throughout this book Roland yielded too much to Gerrard, and it was infuriating. But I liked that Roland didn't take Gerrard's insults of his wife lightly at all and got physical to defend her. The brothers finally coming to terms with each other was rather touching, but seemed a bit rushed on Gerrard's end, for all the awfulness he brought on to Roland. It would have made more sense if some of that pompous, ungratefulness continued into Gerrard's part in the next book to really have his character grow, but I guess that would put off anyone (especially me) wanting to read the next book (and can't have that happening, oops).

Still giving 4 stars because Mavis and Roland were still too sweet/cute together and ultimately made this story enjoyable.

I liked it. Twins, family issues, pent up lust, criminals, murder, un-returned love, jealously.

the only thing that bothers me with these 'romance novels' is the lack of communication, seeing something then running with your own conclusions and just over thinking it.

Just ask a frigging questions already..

we're married but does she love me? did that look in his eye mean he now has feelings for me. blah blah blah

Decent historical romance. I felt that if the book had been a bit longer/more stretched out, chapters shorter, more minor character development, this could have been an excellent tale. Sadly, there were too many sub-plots that were distracting from the main story (hence the reason that if the book was longer, the sub-plots more fleshed out, then a decent book would have been upgraded to great).

3 stars, 6.5/10, not Moore's best work but doesn't detract from her other works.

"Fans who adore Moore’s high sexual tension and realistic action will revel in Mavis and Roland’s journey from lust to love. There are powerful lessons underlying this heated love story, and wonderful characters to carry in your heart" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
