When bestselling mystery author Eloise "Ellie" Whitaker is found strangled with a typewriter ribbon during the Brentwood Falls Library's Murder Mystery Night, librarian Lucy Blackstone is horrified. What was supposed to be an evening of fictional suspense has become all too real—and the irony isn't lost on Lucy that Ellie died by the very tools of her trade.
As Lucy searches for answers, she discovers Ellie wasn't just in town for a book event—she was investigating a decades-old mystery involving a young writer named Katherine Wells, whose apparent suicide and mysteriously destroyed manuscript have haunted Brentwood Falls for twenty-five years.
When Ellie's own manuscript goes missing, Lucy realizes the two deaths might be connected. With the help of her best friend Hazel and Ellie's dedicated assistant Emma, Lucy follows a trail of literary breadcrumbs through early drafts, hidden codes, and suspicious revisions. The truth seems to lie in Ellie's early novels co-written with her ex-partner Wade Pennington—novels that might contain secrets someone would kill to keep buried.
As Lucy gets closer to the truth, the killer strikes again. Now she must set a trap of her own design to catch a murderer who knows how to craft the perfect ending—one where Lucy doesn't live to tell the tale.

Join Lucy Blackstone in this final installment of her beloved mystery series as she proves once again that sometimes the most dangerous plots aren't found in books, but in the hearts of those who write them.
First off, as much as I really enjoyed this book, toward the end it was pretty confusing because I read the perp basically confessing…the next chapter was kinda a repeat of what just happened, only in more detail. That was chapter 9 and it makes me wonder if the previous chapter was the draft and nine was the actual thing? Seemed like another edit might be in order.
Lucy and her pal Hazel tackled the possibly most difficult case yet, although this time Hank didn’t really get as upset. Maybe he knew the importance of what was gonna be revealed, who knows. He’s a good and fair sheriff though and always acknowledged Lucy’s input and work. The ending was nice, just two good friends and the author’s personal assistant talking over something new in Lucy’s career. I liked this quote from Lucy: “The best stories always leave room for a sequel.”
Lucy is hosting a mystery book event at the library. All goes well until the author takes a15 minute break but does not come back. When Lucy goes looking for her she finds her murdered. Lucy dives into the case to find the murderer and from there it takes many twists and turns with a surprise ending. A fun read.
An author, who had been working to expose a long-ago murder in town, is found dead. Lucy pieces together clues, old and new, to find the evildoers, old and new, and finish what the author started.
I read this series in order. I really liked it a lot. I was hoping there would be more, but the way it ended it seems there won't be. I highly recommend reading the series.
Each book contains well written narratives about the extent persons are willing to take to cover misdeeds and avoid consequences. Hopefully sequels might emerge!!
