All her life, Jordi Hemphill was told that she needed to change to fit in and be accepted. She talked too much, laughed too loud, and most definitely, indisputably and inexcusably weighed too much. In fact, she wore her size-20+ clothes without so much as an apology. She didn’t care to fit in. She didn’t want to be beautiful. Instead, she wanted to wear her hair in funky colors, she itched for tattoos and piercings, and dreamed of a life much bigger than working at the local Burger Palace for minimum wage. She had been born with the voice of a superstar, and something inside her told her it was OK to dream big, even if she had to do it in secret.
On her eighteenth birthday, she takes every last cent she has and buys a one-way ticket for Los Angeles. She is sure her talent will get her noticed by those more open-minded to see it. Then and only then will she show all the naysayers in her hometown that she was a somebody no matter what they thought.
Unfortunately Los Angeles wasn't any more welcoming. Jordi didn't fit into their pop machine no matter how well she sang. Other pop princess had the "full package," whereas Jordi still needed to change if she wanted her dreams to come true. It took a plus-size TV producer to take a chance on her, casting her for a reality talent show called "Fierce," which put attitude and talent far above the traditional pop star image.
Thanks to Giovanni Carnevale, the lead singer of "Dreaming in Blue" and “Fierce’s” rock star judge, Jordi gets a chance to fight for her place on a national stage.
But will America embrace this alternative diva? Or will they too expect her to conform in order to be accepted... to be loved? Despite the acceptance of new friends and supporters, old ghosts continue to haunt Jordi on her new journey. It will take handsome fellow contestant, Jace Riga, to finally help expose and exorcise the demons that drive her self-destruction.
"Fierce" continues the story introduced in the Ginger Voight novel, "Mogul," where Jordi joins a hodge-podge of other contestants to battle for the championship that dares every single hopeful to live large, to be FIERCE.
Ginger Voight, the author of the best-selling "Groupie" series, brings fame once again to the forefront with her new adult story, "Fierce." The characters you grew to love in the "Groupie" trilogy and "Love Plus One" are back to help the incomparable Jordi Hemphill carve a place for herself as a pop princess despite the odds in this coming-of-age Rubenesque romance.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER
If you need a warning label to read a book, whether for language, sex, emotional trigger topics, the presence of cliffhangers, cheaters or triangles or the absence of a HEA, then this author's books are not the books for you.
Ginger Voight is a screenwriter and bestselling author with over twenty published titles in fiction and nonfiction. She covers everything from travel to politics in nonfiction, as well as romance, paranormal, and dark, “ripped from the headlines” topics like Dirty Little Secrets.
Ginger discovered her love for writing in sixth grade, courtesy of a Halloween assignment. From then on, writing became a place of solace, reflection, and security. This was never more true than when she found herself homeless in L.A. at the age of nineteen. There, she wrote her first novel, longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car.
In 1995, after she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.
In 2011, she embarked on a new journey—to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like the average American woman. These "Rubenesque" romances have developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles, such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the "reality-TV" preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.
Known for writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish, gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they'll never forget.
I'm a mess. I devoured this book only because I'm a masochist & I desperately wanted to find out where all this was headed. I have a very strong love/hate thing going on right now. I'm so pissed off at what transpired, but beyond happy to know that Jace, who is the epitome of a true Hero, is sticking by Jordi...even after what that snake Eddie did. Ugh!! I desperately want more. Thanks again, Gin, for making a character so vile, that he made me want to bitch slap my Kindle every time he appeared. LOL. It's all talent on your part, chick =) Full review to come.
Fierce is the first book in the Fierce series. I will be honest, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy the book. By the synopsis I was worried it was going to be a “poor me” story and some silly story about a girl finding fame & fortune. It was so much more than that and I was captivated by the story of 18 year-old Jordi and all the characters that surround her & her incredible journey of strength, love, and lessons learned, okay and a lot of heartbreak too.
Jordi is a female character I think ANY girl can relate to no matter what size she is or where she comes from. Jordi comes from a small town in Iowa, raised by a cold mother, and has dreams of becoming a star someday with her powerful voice. She is invisible to everyone around her including boys. Sadly she is known more for her weight then her voice. She has incredibly low self-esteem and gives herself to the high school quarterback stud, Eddie who uses her for sex when no one is around; he wouldn’t dare be seen with her in public but uses her 10 year long crush on him to get what he wants.
Finally Jordi can’t take her life any longer and leaves town to follow her dreams as a famous singer in Los Angeles. Jordi gets her big break on a singing competition show similar to American Idol called Fierce. The entire book reminded me of American Idol, The Bachelorette, and Biggest Loser all rolled up into one. Jordi makes it to the final rounds and now that she is making a name for herself Eddie comes back into her life. He controls everything she does and is emotionally abusive to her; he is constantly putting her down about her weight, using everything he possibly can against her. At the same time Jordi is finally seeing the real Eddie she starts to fall for Jace, another contestant on the show. Jace is a war Veteran who served his country in Iraq to lose his leg and come home to his high school sweetheart dumping him. Jace is the sweetest guy in the world ladies. He is nice to everyone he meets and cares for Jordi no matter what she looks like. Jordi is struggling with the new fame, her weight, her “relationship” with Eddie, and feelings for Jace all while trying to win Fierce and have her dreams come true.
Fierce was so much more than I ever thought it was going to be. Jordi is such a broken character in so many ways and we learn a lot about her towards the end that just shattered my heart for her. She is such a relatable character for us girls to read because she isn’t the “perfect body”, with the “perfect hair”, that all the boys’ fall for we are use to reading in books. She is a real woman who struggles with her appearance. I can’t believe how cruel people were to Jordi about her weight, especially her mother and her so called boyfriend Eddie. I wanted so badly for Jordi to kick Eddie in the balls and break up with him but I understood why she didn’t. The hottest guy in school she has been in love with since she was 8 is finally with her and she couldn’t let him go. But once Jace and Jordin began a relationship I wanted Eddie to stop controlling her but he only got worse. I felt all of her struggles throughout the book.
At the end we find out who wins the show Fierce and what a true a-hole Eddie really is. What he does to Jordi to control her and keep her his is disgusting and made me so upset. The book does not end on a cliff hanger but you will want to read the next book right away and continue the story of Jordi, Jace, and even Eddie as much as I hate to say that! God I hate that man! He is the worst of the worst!
Fierce turned out to be completely different then I thought it would. It had a heart, it had soul, and I fell in love with Jordi & Jace. I hope they eventually get their happy ending. They both deserve it so much.
I have never read a Ginger Voight book before but I plan to do so in the future. She has a talent for connecting the reader to her characters and wrote a completely original story that I loved.
I give Fierce (Fierce #1) 4 Stars.
Book provided by the author in return for an honest review.
FIERCE IS FIERCE! Lord Ginger can write a book like no other. Man I was so engrossed by Fierce that I tuned out everyone and everything. I needed my time and by that I wanted to be able to sit and enjoy what Ginger wrote. Boy oh boy what a treat I received because Fierce is a story about a girl who is not your average girl. No she is a fire cracker and she is setting out to let her town know she has what it takes to be a star.
Lord I love Jordi. She is hilarious because she is heavy set and dies her hair different colors. She wants tattoos and piercings and just wants to live her own life. She does not want to change like everyone tells her she needs to. She wants more out of her life and she can have it because lord knows when she opens her mouth and sings she blows people out the water with her voice. So she decides when she turns 18 years old she will take off and never look back.
On Jordi's 18th birthday she does just that. She takes all her money she has saved and leaves for Los Angeles. When she gets to Los Angeles she is discouraged and disappointed to see that things have not changed. Yes it is a different place but people look at the outside and the inside. You need to have a face to sell in order to get noticed. But the Jordi hears from a friend about as show Fierce.
The director for fierce is looking for someone who has talent. No matter what they look like. So Jordi tries out and gets a spot on the show. But is everything cracked up to be what it really is? Or are things still the same? Jordi meets Jace on the show and they get close but Jordi thinks Jace does not like her because she is not a skinny minny but Jace really does care about her and he intends to show her just how much he cares for her.
Will that be enough for Jordi? Because Eddie oh yeah you have to read about my friend here Eddie is back in the picture acting like the greatest...... ever and he wants everyone to know she belongs to him. Lord what a tool! This is such a must read book I need it in print so I can read it over and over again! Thank You Ginger for this spin off series!
When Vanni takes that job as a judge on a reality show in the Groupie trilogy, this is not what I was expecting to happen behind the scenes. But I certainly loved it! Ginger Voight takes us on a journey in Fierce that I am not soon to forget. Jordi never fit in, but I believe it is true, she was born to stand out. Jordi abandons her life in her small little Iowa town to pursue her dreams of making it. On her 18th birthday she leaves home without as much as a goodbye. She heads out to LA and tries to work the circuit. Audition after audition and not so much as a second chance. She didn’t fit in the “mold.” But the big question is was she ever going to? One final audition for a reality show and Jordi’s life is changed forever. She auditions and gets called back. Suddenly she is thrown into a whole new world. But the big question is will it chew her up and spit her out or will it embrace her? It really doesn’t matter. To me this book was so much more than the reality show. This book for me was about acceptance and love. Not even necessarily that of those around you, but the acceptance and love for yourself. Embracing who you are and learning to believe in yourself. That’s not to say this book was a total emotional breakdown, it was fast and exciting and I fell in love with each character in this story. Well… almost. I wanted to smack that smug look off of the “fiancé’s” face on more than one occasion and I was mortified at the mother’s behavior. But I fell head over hills in love with Jordi’s fellow contestant, Jace. Everybody in this competition had demons that they were facing, but an unmistakable talent to go along with it. Jace lost one of his legs in the war and that’s when he discovered he could sing. He was Jordi’s biggest competition on the show. But he was so much more than that. He was the one person that could make her see how truly special she was exactly the way she was. I got lost in Jace’s character, wishing I could root him on as well. I cringed every time I heard him called a name and it just wanted me to embrace this hero. This book was well written and the characters, though not without flaws, were flawlessly written in this book. Ginger Voight blew me out of the water with this one as she did with each book in the Groupie trilogy. I loved each and every moment of this book and once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. Throw in the cameos of Vanni from Dreaming In Blue and this book couldn’t have more perfect. This book tugged at my heart and I was so torn up by how Jordi’s “family” had treated her and made her feel her entire life like she was never going to amount to anything. I wanted to scream at the people in that small town she was from. This book proved that with the right kind of love, Jordi could indeed stand out and be “Fierce.”
A*M*A*Z*I*N*G I had the absolute pleasure and honor to read this book before it comes out and I am completely and utterly fascinated by it!!!! After reading the Groupie Trilogy with Mogul being epic I didn't doubt the amazing brilliance of Ginger Voight but after reading the spin off Fierce I must say she is in a class of her own!!! Literary Genius!! It's a real story that captivates you, I was enthralled I cried I laugh I almost threw my iPad against the wall a few times I fell in love with the characters I hurt for Jordi what a tough journey and I hated with my all some of those vicious characters... Jace is beyond amazing!!! Wonderful story and the best news for me it's a trilogy!!! As long as Ginger Voight keeps writing I will keep reading I love the roller coaster of emotions where happy endings are never easy but I believe eventually with enough tears and enough emotional torture we can get there!!!!!! 5 stars will not do it justice seriously read it ladies make your own opinion but I absofuckenlutely loved it excuse my language I'm still reeling!!!!
I didn't hate this book but I also didn't love it either. It started out with a strong heroine that takes off at 18 to find her way. However, instead of her remaining a strong heroine I could get behind, she became a weak doormat of a heroine. She ended up ruining the last 60% of the book for me. Why keep reading?? Well I thought that she'd find her back bone, but sadly she never does. When this book ends, she is still no better off and frankly I don't care what happens to her...Sorry but I just don't.
A few years ago I was at my sons’ elementary school Olympic Day. A group of boys started to "cheer" on a girl as she slowly made her way around a makeshift running track. "Go fatty go" they chanted as she passed by. I was horrified that these savages thought it was ok to say this. I remember looking at her face knowing this poor girl will remember this shitty moment in time. WTF? Ginger Voight’s latest book Fierce resurrected that day for me. Jordi Hemphill is overweight and has a larger than life singing voice (I picture her as Adele). Not a day goes by that Jordi is reminded that she is tipping the scales. After years of obese abuse she picks up and leaves her depressing life in Iowa to try and make it as a singer in Hollywood. Jordi is picked to be a contestant on a new reality TV show called Fierce. Fierce is “American Idol” for contestants who don’t look like your typical pop princess or rock God. Jordi meets and slowly falls for Jace Riga, one of her fellow contestants. Jace is an Iraq war veteran who lost his leg to a roadside bomb. Jordi's opportunist mom and her “boyfriend” Eddie thrust themselves back into her life to use her new found stardom as their own fat meal ticket. Eddie earned a top spot on my list of “Uber Sadist Douche Bags” with comments that include:
“Who do you think they’re going to vote for, Jordi? And who are they going to laugh at?”
“Look at you, Jordi. Really look at yourself. You have all these people telling you how wonderful you are when you’re nothing more than a fat, disgusting pig. And you know that deep down.”
While trying to juggle the stress of appearing on a TV reality show, her mom, Eddie, a witch diet coach and Jace… her anxiety levels rise as well as the numbers on her scale. Jordi continues to self-medicate by eating and falls ill on stage. Will she make it to next week? American tunes in to watch. Fierce is filled with so many sweet and sour emotional moments. I felt myself wanting to devour a bag of chips, a few chocolate bars and a gallon of soda along with Jordi. Her story is heartbreaking and such an emotional journey. Ginger Voight is rock star of a writer and story teller. I felt every ounce of pain and the dietetic pieces of happiness Jordi felt while reading this book. Four and half fat loving stars. Fierce can be read as a stand-alone even though it picks up from Mogul (book #3 in the Groupie series). The Groupie series is a MUST READ on its own. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series (please tell me you will Make it Happen GV).
**4.5 Stars** Fierce is a reality talent show similar to American Idol. However, instead of trying to pick someone who fits a cookie cutter image of a popstar, Fierce champions those talents whom society would more than likely overlook. I really like this element of the book.
Jordi Hemphill is an 18 year old high school dropout who happens to have a voice that can move people to tears...in a good way. But Jordi doesn't fit the typical mold for a recording industry star. She weighs in at over 250 pounds and until Fierce, her talents have been overlooked due to her size.
"This business is full of people who will beat you up for not being this enough or that enough. The only way they succeed is if you agree. Don't agree." -Vanni Carnevale
Jordi has spent her life dreaming big...dreaming of that perfect singing career and the perfect guy. Landing a spot on Fierce has not only brought her dream of singing closer to fruition, but has brought her the attention of Eddie, that perfect boy she's spent so long fantasizing about. But Jordi finds his attention isn't quite the fantasy she envisioned.
Jace Riga is a young war veteran who lost his leg. He only discovered his voice during recovery and physical therapy following his injury. He's handsome and a hero. He becomes one of Jordi's most avid supporters.
Both Jordi and Jace, as well as the other contestants we're introduced to, are in this competition to prove something...to their families, their friends, themselves. I delighted in watching Jordi and Jace learn about themselves, face their fears, become more confident...more fierce! Anyone who has ever felt held back because they didn't fit a certain image will have an immediate connection with Jordi...and will become a big fan!
"I was a thousand other things aside from my dress size. The only reason others could define me based on that very limited criteria was because I let them. The reason I never fit into the small box other people created for me was because I was never meant to. I was meant to stand out. I was born to be different. And it was okay." -- Jordi Hemphill
There are so many powerful moments in Fierce. And many profound and enlightening epiphanies as the characters make their way on this journey. I wasn't sure I could love Fierce as much as the Groupie books, but I needn't have worried. Ginger knows how to create substantive characters and engaging stories. And Fierce is her next star studded hit!
5 Amazing, but this book is Pissing me off Stars!!!
Once again, I'm totally Wowed and speechless at the depth of characters Ginger Voight has created in the first book of this amazing series. I also LOVE how all of her leading female characters in her books aren't little stick girls, but BBW (GO GINGER).
YEAH, there's more Vanni and Jace is AMAZING, I'm totally loving him!
BUT......
I wanted to punch Jordi's mother in the face about the first 20 minutes into this book.
And the Boyfriend Eddie is a complete ASS!
The ending of this book is exactly what you can expect from a Ginger Voight series, there's a HUGE Cliff Hanger...
As a big girl I desperately wanted to love this book. I actually have the one with the cover of the amazing looking tattooed girl, and it was the cover that drew me in. That girl was just so amazing to see and I wanted to connect with her in the book. Just did not happen at all. Even if it was a rough start I wanted to see some character growth from Jordi. She started out being walked all over, and she ended up being walked all over. I realize that there's a sequel, but I honestly don't know if I can bring myself to read it, and continue with this whole "Woe is me". Seriously, by the time I got done with it, I felt fat shamed.
I'm sorry...The only saving grace in this book is Jace, I'd contemplate reading the next just to see him get his happy ending. I wanted to like Jordi...truely I did. I triee, and some parts are redeemable but there is soooo much thats super exasperating🙄
The characters were almost intolerable. The main character has too much insight and ability and still made these blatantly cringe worthy decisions. The first few times, Ok. Beyond that...I can't even deal. I actually skipped a lot to focus in in her and Jace Eddie and her mother are so cringeworthy the fact that no one got smacked is beyond me.
I loved the Rock Star series and I knew this one should be just as good. The only thing I am not to sure of is, is the story still going to continue on? If you liked the Rock Star series, I would read this as well.
Jordi was never a small-town girl in her mind, she just didn't fit into their usual stereotypes. She was a big girl fitting in Size 20+ clothes, she loved to sing and when she turned 18, she hightailed into the land of singing and celebrities in LA. Here she meets her new GBF and moved in with him and soon had gigs singing at Drag clubs. She wanted more, but all these cattle calls were looking for someone skinny, blonde and perfect, not someone who is a big woman and loves to dye her hair funky colors and someone who stands out. That is until she sees a casting call for a new reality show similar to American Idol but this show is wanting those contestants who are considered "freaks of the world", those who stand out and don't fit into the cookie-cutter world. When Jordi tries out for the show, she gets in of course with her amazing and powerful voice. Everything is going well until they have to do home visits. Now that Jordi has gotten famous, her mother and her booty call Eddie to want to be part of her life. I have to admit, this part frustrated me and how Jordi let them dictate her life for so long. It's like Jordi open your eyes and tell them to f-- off as you don't need them, you never did and some people love you and want you for you in your life. This was a great coming out of her shell start to a good series and shows females that you don't have to be a super skinny bottle-blond to be successful and that sometimes just by being yourself, you can be just as awesome and fierce.
Great read. I love Jordie and Jace and all of the castmates.
This book is a reality check for those of us who are different. To be whose were meant to be. The pitfalls that befall us as we strive to be our best selves. Enjoyed it immensely.
Boy when u talk about a good book then u talk about fierce it made me cry with the heroine cheer them on and feel their hope.its was truely real grate job voight made me hunger to read the next step in the story
I rated this book a solid 5 stars for its creative subject matter, well written, and unique twist of a romance book. I was first introduced to this author’s work from her trilogy Groupie! That trilogy too was very different and had great entertaining aspects. Fierce is a spinoff of Groupie, but note that you do not have to read the Groupie series to understand what is going on, even though the book series is well worth reading.
Fierce is about a plus-size woman named Jordi who has a dream of becoming a singer. When I read that she was a ‘plus-size woman’ right there it had me stop and smile, and think, ‘now here is something different’, not the same old perfect looking character with perfect body and personal issues. No, Jordi has issues with her size among other things that she works through in the book. You read about her relationship with her mother and why it is so strained is not revealed until the end, but the buildup has you wanting more. Jordi is from a small town with big dreams, and most of the people in that town stay and raise families there. Not Jordi, she wants to go to L.A. and make it as a singer but when you read it you will see that this decision was not really well thought out. I do not want to give away the book, so I will just say that Jordi gets a break in her career in an unusual way, and that’s where her journey of self-discovery and self-love and hate starts.
I really had a hard time reading Eddie’s fake and hateful words throughout the book; he is the cliché of a good looks football star, and of course Jordi dreams of him, but how he treats her… uhhh, how he treats her is just, just wrong. Enter her mother, another person who made me cringe when she entered into the book – I did not like her at all either. This book had me talking to it, saying ‘No!!! Jordi don’t do that!’, but she does and the story keeps building and building until I just could not take it anymore and I had to tweet the author to vent my feelings about her book. Letting her know how much I could not stand these people, I had to do something just to carry me through this journey.
Here are some the conversations in the book that got me so upset!
“Yeah, and look at you, Jordi. You’ve packed on at least twenty pounds since you left. You wear your hair in weird colors. You’ve tattooed and pierced yourself like a freak. And you think you can honestly win a nationwide popularity contest?”
“Why do you want me if I’m so fat? said Jordi.
Because I see how you could be.” said Eddie.”
I also really didn’t like Pilar; see what she had to say:
“No good man wants a fattie.”
This statement was made by a fan of Jordi’s which made me smile and cheer!
“I get made fun of a lot in school. Most days I don’t even want to go. But then I saw you on the show and I thought maybe I’m not so bad. Maybe someday I’ll grow up and be somebody too.”<— This made we weep a little
Spoiler Alert for the Groupie Series book: There were a lot of references of food in this book that made me hungry, so just a warning that you may want to be chewing gum or something while reading, or you may snack too much while reading. Jordi obsesses over food which gets me wanting to eat the food she eats in the book.
For those who have read Ginger Voight’s Groupie Series, you will love that she had Vanni, Andy, Graham, and Maggie in the book, where they fit perfectly. You see life after Vanni and Andy’s married, and Graham and Maggie are really involved in the contest that is held too.
Overall, the book was well-written; I felt it was a very original New Adult book. But yet I am surprised no one that I know of has written a New Adult fiction book based on American Idol or reality shows. I know at times I am curious to the behind-the-scenes world on some of these reality shows, and this book lets you take a look at that, but of course it’s only fiction so your imagination can go wild.
The author will be coming out with a sequel sometime in September, and I will be on the lookout. At the end, the author did have me wondering:
What is Jordi going to do with Eddie? What’s going to be Jordi’s best way to live a happy life and learn to love herself? Will she ever close the chapter on her feelings for Jace (I hope for a happy ending)? When will she tell people to take a hike and let her live her life?
Absolutely AMAZING ~ Fierce picks up where Mogul left off with the reality show that Jordi Hemphill entered ~ This book was about so much more than the "star" aspect but making your dream a reality and standing up for yourself.
Jordi has always been put down but the ones who are supposed to love her for who she is not what she can become. She was ridiculed because of her weight and always harbored a crush for hometown boy Eddie who every girl had a crush on ~ but one night everything changes for her and after another Birthday forgotten by those she loves she decides she has nothing left for her in Iowa and heads out to LA to make her dreams of becoming a singer a reality ~
After numerous rejections and no call backs with a help of a great friend and roommate Corey Jordi lands a spot on a one of a kind reality show called Fierce ~ yep Vanni is the judge on that show ~ and Jordi never imagined she would meet someone like Jace Riga ~ An Iraqi war veteran that lost a limb ~ Jace is the epitome of good looking and the boy can sing but beyond that is someone who defines good guy all around.
Be prepared to have your heart shredded and your tears flowing with this beautiful read that teaches us that it's who you are on the inside that counts the most and be prepared for wanting more when you finish cause there is NO way Jace's & Jordi's story is over.
This book will have you....
I guarantee it ~ from what happened to Jace coupled with Jordi's back story and the continued pain Jordi lives with you will be in tears. I had a few ......
Jordi really did find a circle of true friends and most importantly family when she came to LA and you will LOVE Corey to death. Now Eddie oh Eddie had me thinking ........
if ever I had the opportunity to jump into a book and kick a characters ass this is one book I wish I could and I don't think we are rid of him ladies nope you will want to ........
now there were some definite
worthy moments between Jace & Jordi and this book is much steamier than Ginger's Rock Star series so ladies you will want to be Jordi ~ and I guarantee you will
for Jace & Jordi to become a couple and then when you get to the end you can.....
cause you realize you have to WAIT to find out what happens and I'm not a patient person when I really love a book.
Totally 5 +++ star beautiful coming of age story that is just starting and I promise you will love this one and I highly recommend this one to be moved to the top of everyone's TBR! It's that freaking emotional, angtsy it's all around AWESOME!!!!
556 Book Chicks instantly fall in love... I totally loved this book from the start. I think after the first chapter I was totally engrossed in Fierce and everything it had to offer. No second guessing it - I was all in...
What did I love...every damn thing! But I especially loved that Jordi was far from perfect. Not blonde, not blue eyed, not a size 4, not dropped dead gorgeous...Jordi was in a battle with her weight every day since she was 6 years old. As a woman I can totally relate to Jordi! It made her real and who the hell doesn't love real? #FanGirl #TeamJordi #JordiRocks! You get the point I'm sure! LOL!
The Characters...are written so freaking well in this book. You will love them all, well some of them you will hate! You could actually visualize the characters - that's how well they were written. I don't know the last time I read a book where I loved so many of the characters. I have to say besides Jordi - Corey and Jace were two of my absolute favorites. And even though I hated Eddie and Jordi's mom, I have to give Ginger Voight kudos for writing their selfish asses so well. Anytime you get a hand clap for writing a hated main character so well - you know you have written one hell of a book!
One of My Favorite Moments...was when Jordi sang the National Anthem at her live audition for the Fierce television show. She was inspired by Jace's story and she just let them have it. This scene was so powerful you could feel it and see her singing...'There was no one else on stage I had to worry about overshadowing with my big, booming voice; this was truly my first time to really shine. I blasted down the rafters in ways that would have made my mother scowl with disdain all the way from Iowa. I got teary as I finished, and didn't even realize the people in the auditorium had sprung to their feet. I had given only myself, and was encouraged and rewarded with the applause of my equally talented peers. Even in this group of budding superstars, there was room for me. It was the first time that I felt there had been room for me anywhere. Finally I had been Jordi...and it had been enough.' (Tears)
I am watching for...Shelby in Book #2. Why? Because I don't know if she is playing both sides of the fence. Someone is trying to help Eddie bring Jordi down, and I want to know who the hell it is. And I could totally be wrong about Shelby, but for right now I am watching her.
If you haven't figured it out by now this book gave me life honey! Life with two snaps and a neck roll! I freaking loved this book!
HOLY SMOKES!!!!For every girl that has thought she wasn’t good enough or was told she wasn’t good enough this is the book for you!! It’s heart wrenching and empowering all at the same time. This story is a spin off of Ginger Voights Groupie Series and unfortunately I have not read that series but after reading Fierce I’m going to definitely go back and read them.
Jordie Hemphill is a beautiful character that I aspire to be like. Every girl feels inadequate at one time or another and it always feels nice to share that experience with another person who has shared that experience. I felt every emotion Jordie went through, I’m not gonna lie I cried quite a few times reading this book. Jordie’s story starts with big dreams of being a star and even has the voice to back that huge dream but growing up in a small town, being over weight and having her mother tell her everyday that she isn’t good enough her dream doesn’t seem like it will ever happen. Till her 18th birthday when everything seems lost she runs away to LA with nothing but a bag and all the money she has. LA brings her everything she ever hoped for friends, a chance to be a star and most importantly a family to care for her that she never had back home. After being turned down at audition after audition she finally gets that break and receives a call back for a new reality singing show, “Fierce”. The only thing I wish was different was instead of reading her journey on “Fierce” was I wish I could have watched all the performances since I cried just reading about them.
The cast of characters in this story are all amazing from the war hero Jace that you can’t help but fall in love with to even Eddie (Jordie’s secret crush since she was a child) who basically is the worst human being alive (well next to Jordie’s mother- YUCK). You need villains to make the heroine that much stronger and Jordie’s villains did just that.
I give this book a very strong 4.5 stars!!!! It just amazed me and I can’t recommend it enough.
Fierce by Ginger Voight was a great start o her spin off from the Groupie Trilogy. It was a bit of a different take on breaking into show business. I liked that the characters were flawed. The premise was addicting to say the least. A singing contest reality show. Who doesn't love those? It was amazing to see one girl who has bee battling with weight issues to see her dreams come true. This woman is strong.talented. and filled with emotion. She definitely wore her heart on her sleeve. She was such an appealing and relate able character. One who I rooted for through the entire book.
Jordi leaves home and moves to California. She wants to follow her dreams. She has had enough of being the fat girl that no one cares about. She finds some really great friend who believe in her in California. When she is offered a chance of a lifetime, she is determined to give it her all. She becomes enamored with Jace another contestant. He thinks she is perfect just the way she is. Then there is a shift and she loses control, her mother and high school crush decide to support her. What they are offering is the opposite of what she needs.
During the first half of the book I was so mad at her so called family. These people treated her so badly. I really wanted her to tell them to go to hell. She had the strength to control her life, but years of being told she wasn't good enough really did a number on her. Once she took control of her happiness was the best part of the book for me. We do get a little interaction with Vanni which was pretty nice. He was one of her biggest supporters. Even more of a reason to love him!
This isn't a love story, it is a story of inspiration, and hope. To believe in your dreams and make them happen. To be valued for who you are. Well maybe it is a love story too. She loves with her whole heart and you are guaranteed to fall in love with this fierce women.
If you are looking for a story that is truly inspiring, then you have found it in Fierce.
Jordi is a big girl with a great singing voice, she has never really fitted in and has low self esteem. She has loved Eddie since she was 8 years old, He would never show her affection in public but would take her in his car to have sex in the back seat. When Jordi suspects that he is seeing her best friend as well she runs away and starts a new life for herself. After being turned down by music producers time after time because she doesn't fit in Jordi is approached to take part in a talent reality show called FIERCE for people that don't fit in.
Jace Riga is a war hero that lost his leg during serving in the army. Jordi and Jace are attracted to each other but then Eddie comes back on the scene declaring his love for her.
Giovanni Carnevale is one of the judges so this book ties in with the Groupie series.
This is a real emotional read that had me crying a few times, I hate Eddie and Jordi's mother I want to bitch slap the both of them. I love Jace, he is a great character and is so good for Jordi. I also really liked how the story unfolded and getting to the root of Jordi's problem is heartbreaking. I feel that we got right into her head but hated how Eddie and her mother played on her insecurities and were really quite nasty. They both had there own benefits to the out come of the Fierce.
I must admit that I have only read GROUPIE out of the series and even though I really enjoyed FIERCE I feel that I was missing a bit of the story so I would probably recommend reading them all before starting on FIERCE.
I loved it, FIERCE had me going through all the emotions....
Thank you to Ginger Voight for allowing me to read and review this ARC copy and I will look forward to the next book in the series because I believe there is so much more to the story and the characters.
I'm giving it 5 stars for Amazon and 4 stars for Goodreads.

“Fierce” by Ginger Voight I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was sooo excited when I received an ARC of “Fierce.” I absolutely loved the “Groupie” trilogy and I just knew I would love this spin-off. I wasn’t sure where the author was going to take the book and how the spin-off would work out...but I loved it. It definitely worked! Ginger Voight has a way with words and she knows what her readers want. She can pull us in immediately and keep us there until the books ends...and even after the book ends! Her books stay with me for a while. I get so connected to the characters she creates that they become real people to me. And I really enjoyed seeing a few characters from the “Groupie” trilogy in “Fierce.” It was great.
I fell in love with Jordi and Jace. They are both amazingly talented but never got the respect they deserved because they didn’t fit into the physical mold the entertainment industry wanted. Finally, they got their chance to show the world their talent through a talent show called Fierce. Think of American Idol meets The Voice, but only so much better. Jordi and Jace met on this show and they were each other’s biggest competition, but also each other’s biggest supporters.
I definitely would recommend “Fierce” by Ginger Voight to anyone who enjoys New Adult Contemporary Romance. If you like New Adult books filled were the perfect amount of angst and romance, as well as self-acceptance and love...then I would absolutely tell you to read this book. If you read the “Groupie” trilogy, I definitely suggest reading “Fierce,” but you also can read this book without having read the “Groupie” trilogy first.
4.5 stars That was intense. The one thing I really enjoy about the authors books are her female leads aren't the supermodel type like Adam Levine likes (btw his marriage devastated me :)) they are normal everyday women, big boned women. They are flawed and not perfect. They aren't a size 2 or 4 and I really like that. Makes it so much more real.
Now this story was even more enjoyable because we get to see more if Vanni. ( the hot rocker from the other story) The plot went a lot like American idol but it was a assortment of people. They were not all beautiful or perfect. They were different. They stood out. Made a statement.mi really enjoyed that. They were judged on their talent not appearance.
Now let's get started on Eddie. OMG!! I despise him. He is weak, sick and twisted. He makes me grind my teeth and want to reach in the book and just junk punch him over and over, he is so pathetic and he makes my skin crawl. Jordi's mom is a real piece of work too. She shouldn't even be allowed to be a mother, she is the poorest excuse for one I have ever witnessed.
Now Jace. Oh mercy. He has me so happy, excited and swooning. He fell in love with jordi for her not her outward appearance and even so he knows she is beautiful and makes sure she knows it. He is a definite hero.
Now onto the next book to see what other scams stupid Eddie can conjure up and hope that jordi is fierce enough to stand up to him.
This book really made me feel so many things. It was a struggle to continue reading with Eddie in the story. I swear, he made my blood boil. I hate him, with all my guts, I hate him. He is a vile, vile man. And Jordi's mother, Oh My Sweet Jesus, I will not get started on her mother. Being a mom myself, I could never imagine saying things like the ones she says to my child - MY CHILD!
Jordi was such a sweet heroine, even if at times she was so hard on herself and so gullible. But I guess that's the point of the story. I absolutely loved Jace - how tender he was, how supportive and encouraging and sexy and ohhh I totally fell for him.
The icing on the cake was getting glimpses of my Vanni (from the Groupie Series).
All in all, I really liked this book. Living through the singing competition from the other side, seeing how things are really done from behind the camera and experiencing how the contestants bonded was a real treat. Looking forward to reading Unstoppable and getting more of Jordi & Jace's sweet story. I'm sure there will be a killer revenge in there for asshole Eddie.
Jordi Hemphill grew up in a small town in Iowa. She always felt like an outcast due to her plus size, and her mother never missed a beat in reminding her of that. Jordi loved to sing, and it was her dream to one day conquer the stereotypes, and become a famous singer. Her other love, was her long-time crush Eddie Nix. Eddie is the star football player, and also enjoys Jordi on the side (away from all eyes). On her eighteenth birthday, she leaves home to get away from that small town, her verbally-abusive mother, and Eddie. Jordi makes her way to LA, and ultimately lands a spot on the hit-reality show "FIERCE". The show opens the door to 'misfits' or people who break the stereotypical mold of a rock star. During the show, she meets Jace. Jace is a war veteran, who also lost his leg. Jordi and Jace form this relationship throughout the show's progression. Not ones to miss their opportunities, Jordi's mother and Eddie pack up from Iowa, and head to LA "to support Jordi". The book revolves around the verbally abusive mother/Eddie, Jordi's over-eating as an escape, the reality show, and Jordi and Jace's budding relationship. Great idea for a story, but the ongoing attack on Jordi's weight became exhausting. I LOVE where things went with the Eddie/Jordi/Jace triangle.
