Twenty-one-year-old Serena Thomas is faced with a tough decision. Unable to get ahead of debt and loneliness since her grandmother’s death she finds a new job, placing the sheltered virgin in an underground escort business. She tells herself it’s just a temporary life choice, but destiny has a different plan. She meets a mysterious and gorgeous man, who happens to be her new boss. Will Serena fit in or will she be left all alone again?
Lincoln (aka: Linc) Jefferson has an unusual life. He established The Lounge, an exclusive escort club for very personal reasons. A place where the women say who, when, and what type of sex they’re willing to have. The escorts possess all the power and the money. It’s a business Linc guards at all costs. Trying to maintain the secrecy is a constant challenge and one that’s tested when he enters into a relationship with Serena. She tempts him unlike any woman, even though he’s surrounded by beauty on a daily basis. The more time they spend together the harder it is for him to keep his secrets. Will Serena stand by his side or will she abandon him?
Sparks and passion fly, taking these two on a journey neither could have expected.
BOOK 1= INTENSITY BOOK 2= SERENITY, release fall 2015.
C.C. Koen writes contemporary romance with a twist. An avid reader who enjoys mystery and suspense, her stories will never be what you expect. Determined to find adventure in her dreams and life, she enjoys skydiving, sailing and any activity that challenges her. Teacher by day, romance writer at night produce an active imagination that comes to life in her writing.
While I liked this book, the story wasn't quite what I expected. Somewhat understandable why Serena chose to go the route that she did in order to deal with the financial calamity that she's had to endure with her grandmother's health and subsequent death. I would have thought the story would be focused more on Serena's experience after gaining employment with the escort service, but there's actually very little mention of that in the book. She interviews with the owner and he immediately declares her to be exclusive. Which wasn't made clear for Serena tells Mylaynee and is then told exactly what being exclusive means. Even more unusual, they sleep together, but that's all they do: sleep. None of the bed gymnastics takes place between them, although the sexual tension between them is hot enough to set a pile of snow on fire.
Then there are the questions: is Linc really with B.B.? Where does he go every Sunday? What other businesses are he and Jax involved with? Why didn't Serena actually confront Linc over the crap B.B. was spouting? How is it that Serena didn't put two and two together and come up how she was suddenly getting requests for her accounting services? Will she ever actually tell Linc about her mother?
I have to admit I am not sure really how to review this book. I have a love/hate feeling towards it. I was intrigued by this book because of the blurb. I love a good escort storyline.
What I really enjoyed about this book was that the storyline was different from other escort stories I have read. This wasn't the typical escort love story with a lot of sex in the book. Although I was a little disappointed with the lack of sex in this story. I thought the character development and writing style was really good and flowed smoothly. I will definitely read more books by this author and I will continue on with the next book in this series. I also liked the majority of the characters we are introduced to in this book, but there were a few I really couldn't stand (BB, Tanya, and Jax).
What I did have a problem with in this book was that the drama of the story (BB's storyline) was dragged on for way too long. I understood Serena wanting to handle things on her own but at a certain point she should've brought Linc into the equation since it was about him anyway. I also think had that plot development happened sooner then the suspense side of the story could've been developed more. I loved the direction she went with Mylaynee and Jax's storyline but that was just a blip compared to BB's. I would've liked to see more along the other line for this story. I also think that Linc's past should've come out a little sooner because without that I found it a little difficult to connect with him and his feelings for Serena. I will also warn you this book ended with a Happy For Now ending. There is another book being released later in 2015. I will be interested to see where she takes Linc and Serena's story. She really only left one thing unsolved in this book that I can remember.
I don't want to dwell on the negative so I will end this review on a positive. I really did enjoy this story and characters. Serena was a strong willed girl who had some seriously bad things happen in her past and was pretty much on her own at the age of 21 and left with a mountain of debt. Which inevitably led her to Linc's club. Linc was also a great character that had a tragic past. He carried a lot of guilt because of a past tragic event, but with the help of Serena I think he will overcome some of that. I thought these two characters were good for each other. What I found interesting with how the author built their connection was that even though Linc "claims" Serena right away, this isn't a insta-love story at all. Things developed slowly and at a believable rate.
So if you're looking for a quick read with drama, suspense and some romance but isn't loaded down with a lot of sex, then this is a book you should give a try. If you aren't a fan of cliffhangers, I don't think you would need to wait for the next one. To me I felt like we got a complete story but you know there is more that could happen. If that makes any sense ;)
Intensity by C.C. Koen is a fast pace read. The author gives us a deep and intense love story that is filled with secrets, passion, difficult pasts and finding love. I loved that although this was a short read (for me anyway) the author did not leave any details out at all.
Serena Thomas is 24 years old. She has lost her grandmother to Cancer and because of the increased medical bills she was not able to pay the mortgage. As a result has lost the house. She works so many odd jobs but she cannot seem to get on top of everything. While drinking coffee she is told about a job as an escort that will cover her living arrangements. Although Serena is inexperienced, she really has nowhere else to go. Her mother left her when she was young and she has no friends that she can get help from.
Lincoln aka Linc is the owner of the Lounge. Linc’ approach to the sex trade industry is different. He lets the girls decide who, when and where they take clients. When Serena walked into his office he saw her innocence, her need for help and protection. He also saw she was different. Serena was instantly turned on by Linc. There was something about him that tugged deep within her. Linc normally does not do exclusive but one look at Serena and he wanted no one else to have her. She would be in his bed every night and no one else would ever touch her.
“I need a job that pays well, pays a lot, this job.”
“You’ll be exclusive”
“I want to make something very clear, Serena, when you’re done each night, you come to me. My bed, no one else’s. Is that clear?”
What I liked about the story line was that, although she was in Linc’ bed every night, it was not an instant love connection and sexual relationship. Yes we get the build-up but the author gives us a story. Linc wants to know why Serena has to do so many jobs and needs to work in this business. The more he learns about the tough, independent strong woman the more deep he falls.
“Do you like accounting? Why’d you quit school? I told you, don’t be embarrassed or afraid to tell me anything.”
“Yeah it’s what I’d like to do full time. My gram had cancer. Things didn’t go well.”
Linc and Serena’s love is intense. I think the author does a great job with that build up because when they finally do come together it is really explosive, meaningful and deep.
“Take off my pants. You want this? Want me? What do you want? Tell me?”
“Give me you. All of you.”
Linc has not been completely honest with Serena about all his business dealings. When his secret is revealed will he lose Serena? Serena has finally found love, friends and a place where she belongs, will she walk away? I am really anxious to see how there story continues in their next book.
Wow what a breath of fresh air. You know that one novel you read and your sad that you came to a end ? Thats how I'm feeling right now :-(
Serena's Gram was diagnosed with cancer and thats when her roller coaster started. She quit college to stay by her side, then when her gram passed she was left alone and on her own. At twenty-one she was a hundred thousand dollars in debt. Costs for treatments and in-home nursing care, loans, and other money problems. She never told Gram about how her finances were a mess. Her friend Mylaynee offered her a job which was about to turn her whole life upside down. But was she ready to jump on another roller coaster which included a hot sexy Lincon, he owned the Lounge, an exclusive escort club. A place where the women say who, when, and what type of sex they’re willing to have. The escorts possess all the power and the money. Serena was a pure virgin and didn't think she had the qualifications. But that was the least of her problems as the plot gets thicker and thicker !
This girl started out so naive, i loved the way the author really changed her around into the sassy lady she became, she could whip ass to, she really is a character you will come to love. As is her friend Mylaynee, they were a pair i would love to spend time with in real life. Lincon was a hard business man but she turned something in his head and he was putty in her hands, he is also someone i would love to spend time with in real life mmmmm he was supper hot, deliciously irresistible that every woman wanted a piece of. This book made me laugh, cry and took my breath away, i couldn't put it down. I was a little sad that there was no hot sex scenes but with the one liners like
~ Oh my God. I couldn't speak, even if Id wanted to. My chin dropped down and when I scraped it back up off the floor, it snapped shut so fast, my tongue vibrated along every nerve.
This novel is something else, i think this is one of the best I've read, the way the author wrote, the plot, the characters and the way she changed who they were through out the novel was class, pure class and i cant believe I've got to wait until 2015 for the next instalment !
The blurb to this book hooked me right away. I was so excited to jump into this book. And the cover, well who doesn’t like a martini?
What would you do to improve your life?
Serena Thomas is a twenty-one year old who has been through so many hurdles that she just wants to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Her grandmother has lost her battle with cancer leaving behind a long list of medical bills. No matter what she does she can’t seem to make end meets. The bills just keep coming in faster than her paycheck. When push comes to shove she loses the only home that she knows and is pushed to the brink of her ledge.
“You want me to be an escort?” I stood with such force my chair skidded across the tile floor, making an eerie screeching noise.
What a question. Right, I mean you’re having a coffee and then boom that question comes out of nowhere. What’s funny is that it just might be something she can do, or can she? You see Serena isn’t experienced. And what I mean by that is that she’s a virgin. That’s right, you read it correctly -a virgin. Enter Lincoln (aka: Linc) Jefferson, you see he is the owner of the Lounge. He started the Lounge, for personal reasons. He wants the women to decide when and where. It important to him to have them be their own boss. Oh, and he’s hot, like super hot.
When Serena meets him for the first time, let just say this is where things begin.
Smack dab in the middle, behind an antique mahogany desk, stood the tallest, most impressive man I’d ever seen. The black suit he wore matched the surroundings, professional and sleek. The top three buttons on his white shirt undone, dark sprigs of hair peeked through and begged for my attention. As I got closer, his eyes scanned me from head, to chest, to hips and up and down my long legs at least three times, resting on my ruby-red tiptoes. Ha! Two could play at that game. Using the exact pace he did, I snapped mental pictures of ever God given, Mr. Universe muscle. A wavy black ponytail, pulled tight at the nape, crested his wide shoulders and dipped to mid chest, bringing my journey to a momentary pause. A taut dress shirt molded to his pecs became an instant favorite and preference I didn't know I had. As I gravitated lower, the desk impeded my view, coming to rest at his wait and a nondescript silver belt buckle. My eyes drifted back up, wishing I could see more, but his tailored jacket without a hint of lint on it kept him hidden. Still, from what I could take in, the man had sin engraved all over him.
UMMM seriously the only thing that I would change would be the ponytail, somehow I just can’t do it. I want to put my hand in his hair and pull, but that’s just a little to much hair for me, but maybe just maybe I can be convinced otherwise.
His face was stunning, but not perfect. A long and slightly crooked nose might’ve been broken a time or toe. The contrast and part that stole my attention though, his high cheekbones framing succulent red lips that blew slow, and even breaths and flowed over my face, heating me all over. His chiseled chin and jaw, which enhanced an already striking face, added to his magnetism. The cologne he wore, or maybe his natural scent, reminded me of woods after a refreshing spring rain blended with a few drops of fruity, citrus aroma.
Well, maybe he can keep his hair. When they first meet, he is just as taken with Serena as she is with him and he makes it known they will be ‘exclusive’. Which means she will be a bartender in the Lounge, but she will end up with him each and every night. What is a girl to do? She accepts his offer. What she doesn’t know is that with being Linc’s ‘exclusive’ girl, comes many enemies, namely some hooches who want him for themselves.
All in all I liked this story line, my only concern is that things felt too ruched between Linc and Serena. Things happened too quickly; in one day they were already sharing a bed, not sexually, but just together. From then on he can’t be without her. Just a little forced for my taste. But I would love to see the continuation of their story. Regardless of what happens with Linc and Serena, I’m sure their love story is going to intensify!

Intensity by C.C. Koen is the first part of Lincoln and Serena's story. Their story will continue in a second book set to release in the fall 2015. While their story is not over yet, the reader is not left with a huge cliffhanger at the end of Intensity. I liked that we are left wanting more, but that it wasn't the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers. I really enjoyed the first part of Linc and Serena's story though, and I am looking forward to more. I did have a few issues throughout this book, and I am hoping that some of them will be resolved with the second book Serenity.
After losing her grandmother, Serena Thomas is struggling to make ends meet. Even with three jobs, she still is barely scraping by. When she meets the beautiful and sweet Mylaynee, the promise of a job making thousands of dollars right away comes off as too good to be true especially considering the fact that it would be as an escort. Serena is a virgin and doesn't plan to have sex for money, but Mylaynee ensures her that some guys just want dates rather than sex. When Serena decides to see about the job, she meets with the sexy owner Linc. They immediately hit it off and he makes her an exclusive for his use only. The more time together, the closer they get. But Linc still holds secrets that he isn't telling Serena, and she begins to wonder where that leaves them. The deeper that Serena gets, the more she finds out. Will she stay and fight for a future with Linc, or will the secrets and other women vying for Linc's attention drive her away before they ever have a chance?
I liked Linc. He was sweet and playful with Serena and I loved that he took care of her. He was sexy and alpha as well, but he was never a jerk about it with her. He was always looking out for her, and I really enjoyed seeing him ease her into his world. I felt bad for him as his past was revealed, but I did admire him for wanting to make things better for those in his world. His motivation for running his business was very personal for him, and I liked that he opened up to Serena and shared that with her. Serena was a bit feisty at times and I loved that she wanted to handle things herself. But then at other times I lost some respect for her because of how she acted or didn't act. I wanted her to confront things with Linc the way she was able to Tanya and B.B. It irritated me that she wasn't able to let him know how she was feeling and try to get answers from him when she deserved the truth. I thought that their connection and chemistry was real though, even if it was pretty instant. They were great together, and I enjoyed seeing them begin their relationship.
My biggest complaint of this book was how Serena dealt with everything about B.B. She started to believe everything that B.B. was telling her, and I wanted her to go to Linc for answers. It was clear that B.B. had ulterior motives, which is why it frustrated me so much. Then not only does she start to believe her, but she decided not to go to Linc because she was afraid it would ruin things between them. It just didn't make sense to me, and made her come off as a bit desperate. There was also one specific event that happened that Serena never asked Linc about. Even after the truth about where Linc was and what he was doing, Serena never talked to him about the one she witnessed with her own eyes and that bothered me. I wanted answers, and I hope that we will get some in the next book. Despite those criticisms though, I really enjoyed the book. I loved Serena's friendship with Mylaynee and the girls and I thought that they were all such a great support system for her. I look forward to seeing more about them in the next book, and I am excited that C.C. Koen has said Mylaynee will be getting her own book. I have to admit that I am curious about how she ended up where she did, and if she will wind up with Jax. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series, and I am excited to see where C.C. Koen takes Linc and Serena next.
"My soul's first embrace, cradled you with tender loving care, My heart entwined to yours, enlivened from beat one. My love transcends eternity, a guiding star enlightening the darkness. May your soul nurture. May your heart treasure. May your love transpire
Twenty-one year old Serena Thomas has been dealing with more than any twenty-one year old should have to deal with. Abandoned by her mother, she's been raised by her gram. By Serena's own admission, even though they didn't have a lot, she never felt alone.
Sadly, after going into huge debt during Gram's battle with cancer, Serena unfortunately finds herself alone, with no way to pay the massive bills that have piled up during this time.
Enter Mylaynee Johanson who discovers the very attractive Serena and offers her an opportunity that sounds too good to be true. Working as an escort at The Lounge, a very exclusive members only club. The escorts are given the power and the money in this business. They decide how far to go with their dates, they keep all of their money and are even given some very swanky apartments to live in.
Who's the man behind the lounge? Lincoln "Linc" Jefferson. Linc is incredibly sexy and very mysterious. Dark hair, pulled back, eyes the color of corn flowers and a body that the very inexperienced Serena doesn't want to keep her hands off of.
The instant Linc and Serena meet you can feel their attraction crackle in the room. During her interview, Linc pulls her to him and they share a kiss that sets Serena's earth spinning out from under her. I've never seen such a believable love at first sight, but Linc knew what he wanted the second he laid eyes on Serena. Not only does he hire her, but he makes her "exclusive" to him only. Basically, no one can ask her to be an escort. She's Linc's property. And I know I should be stronger, but when Linc told her at the end of the day you come to my bed...I swooned.
So Serena's got this new life where she's making money to pay off her debts, she's got a great place to live and her boss is madly in love with her. Oh but it's not all rosy. There's B.B. the troll who never got the memo Linc didn't want her. Then there's Jax. Linc's friend who is dying to get Serena in bed. And let's not forget Linc, he's got some pretty big demons of his own to deal with.
There are two hinky plot twists that I didn't see coming and one of them I have a feeling might have a considerable impact in book two Serenity that comes out this year (hurry please). There's also an icky encounter with a gross, sweaty club member and some really girly fun between the fab 5 as Serena and her girls call themselves.
As much as I think that Linc is a hotty, to me his personality and mannerisms made him even more desirable. Sleeping nude with Serena through much of the book, Linc just holds her close every night. Even when she asks him to make love to her, he waits until he thinks she's ready. When they finally do it's one of those Ahhhhhhh moments. Linc is just incredibly enamored with Serena. He watches her whenever they're in the same room, he can't keep his hands off of her. But it's not in that creepy, get a room way, it's always sweet and loving.
I really enjoyed Intensity. I liked the storyline and I'm definitely looking forward to reading Serenity. As hopeful romantic, I'm cheering for Linc and Serena to get their happily ever after. I'm also hopeful that someone will knock B.B. on her ass. She's such a witch.
A 3.5 lip smack review, rounded up to four. You'll definitely enjoy Linc and Serena's story and you'll also be thinking of all the naughty things you'd like to do to Linc if you had the chance.
The blurb to this book is exactly the sort of book I like to read. I was very excited to read this book just from reading the blurb. OMG then I saw the cover of the book and it was perfect. It was stunning, if I hadn't already read the blurb I would of been drawn in just by the cover. It's got to be one of my favourite covers ive seen this year. When I got the book, I read it the following day, as I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I was drawn straight in to the book. It was a very good book, with a few flaws, but altogether a very good read. Serena Thomas is 21 years old virgin. Her grans has just passed away and her life just starts to go up and down on minute to the next ever since then. She's completly alone and in a huge amount of debt because she moved to live with her grans who has cancer. Serena didn't realise that all the medical bills, loans, treatments have cost so much leaving her life in a absolute mess. SHe manages to find a job, in a underground escort agency, temporarly until she can find another job to start paying her bills off. That is until she meets a gorgeous, mysterious man, Linc, who is her new boss at the lounge. The lounge is a place where all the women say when, who and what type of sex your willing to have. The escorts in the lounge have all the power, but considering Serena's a virgin what will she do? Serena starts off so naive. She is only young and in her short life she has had so much so cope with. Watching Serena change from the start of the book until the end was amazing. Watching her go from the niave, lost, scared little girl to the sexy, confident, sexual women was a great journey. Lincoln was swoon worthy. He's everything I love in a main man character in books. He was a gorgeous, smoking hot, irritable man. He works very hard running his business and the man everybody wants to be with with. His life is his job. That's all he focuses on, but as soon as Serena starts working for him, he changes completly. He's completly putty in her hands. serena felt the connection too. Linc made it known instantly and I mean instantly that Serena is his. She will only work behind the bar at night, but be in his bed every night....(at first not having sex, just cuddling). I found this extremely odd and put me off the book slightly. It was so unrealistic and unbelievable. You don't act like that with your employer or employee. It just felt wrong to me. Unfortunatly for Serena being Linc's number 1 girl, she doesn't realise it's not a easy job and there's people fighting to get her out the way.
I did enjoy the book, but not as much as I thought I would when I first read the blurb and the saw the cover. I felt it was quite rushed. I didn't like that Linc and Serena were in bed with each other pretty much instantly. It was just all to rushed and because of that we didn't really get to the see the characters personalities separated from each other and get to know them apart.
First off, when I signed up to review this book there wasn’t anything stating that it was the first book in the series. Fortunately Ms. Koen has written Intensity without ending it with a cliffhanger, but rather she ended it in such a way that although Serena and Linc’s story is not finished I was left feeling satisfied with this chapter in their lives. The author left me wanting the next book in the series so that I can see how their relationship continues to play out and the unresolved plotlines play out, but without leaving me anxious about an unexpected ending. I enjoy series in which the books play out over years and show how the characters’ lives and relationships develop.
My other issue is that I really don’t understand why Linc is so enamored with Serena. I know that sounds awful, as if to say she’s not good enough for him, but that’s not what I’m saying because I really like Serena’s character. Maybe it’s because the book is told strictly from Serena’s point of view and/or maybe I lapsed into a bit of speed reading, but I don’t recall anything revealed within the book that explains why he is the way he is with her. Unless we’re expected to chalk it up to love at first sight because when Serena first meets Linc at her interview he takes a measuring look at her, makes a move on her – which she rebuffs – then kisses her and declares her exclusive to him. This would leave one to believe that it may be lust at first sight, but we are well past the halfway point of the book before they have sex despite several opportunities previously. All that said, I loved the way that Linc treated Serena – his protectiveness and possessiveness. It’s apparent by his actions that he cherishes her and he clearly comes to love her, but I missed out on the forming of that connection.
Regardless of my seemingly complaint-filled review, I really did enjoy Intensity. I like Ms. Koen’s style of writing as it keeps the flow of the story moving and makes for a quick and easy read. Despite being about an escort club, there is actually very little sex in the book. But there is plenty of sexual tension and a few cat fights that left me cheering for Serena. The author also gives us an unexpected bit of action and adventure that had me on the edge of my seat as I waited to find out how it would play out. As mentioned, this is the first book in the series and Ms. Koen does an excellent job of introducing story threads for the next book but doing it in such a way that I want to know what happens next but I wasn’t left hanging. I am looking forward to the release of Serenity so that I can join Serena and Linc on the next part of their journey.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Angela at Crystal's Many Reviewers!
This is C.C. Koen debut book and I really enjoyed it. It moved pretty quickly. There were parts that were definitely far fetched for me. But, that didn't make me not like it.
Serena is 21yrs old and her grandma her only family just lost her battle with cancer. Serena is working a bunch of jobs to try and pay off all her grandmothers medical bills. Unfortunately, she couldn't catch up and she lost her grandmothers house. Her childhood home. She doesn't have any friends. Her grandma and her friends were the only friends she had. Now, she's all alone.
Serena becomes friends with Mylaynee and she offers Serena a chance at a job. One that makes a lot of money. As an escort. There's only one big problem. Serena is a virgin. She doesn't think she can do it. But, agrees to go to the interview anyway. Serena would do anything to get her grams house back.
When she gets to the interview she meets Lincoln AKA Linc. He owns the Lounge. Linc owns it for her own personal reasons. He lets all the girls pick and choose what they will and will not do. Linc gives them a place to live. He wants them to feel comfortable and safe at all times.
Linc sees something in Serena. Their connection is instant. Linc can see she is naive, quiet and a virgin. He can also see she is desperate. Linc offers her a job. She will be an exclusive. Serena will work at the Lounge as a bartender and is expected in his bed at night.
Serena does just that. Though it's not what you'd think. Linc is hot, sexy, very much an alpha and strong. But, he only sleeps next to her. Never crosses a line with her. Not that she wouldn't do it. Serena gets attached to Linc very quickly. Monday through Saturday she sleeps next to Linc.
Serena has become best of friends with Mylaynee and a few other of the girls. And, because she is exclusive to Linc she's also made some enemies with the girls. Serena handles everything pretty good. Her friends, Linc, her jobs and the money is great. For the 1st time in awhile maybe ever she's alive. She's finding herself. She's growing. It's nice to see.
Linc has a of secrets. Serena has secrets of her own. Mylaynee working with Jax on the side was weird. That had a lot of unanswered questions. I wish some of the stories had some sort of closure. Hopefully, in the next book I'll get some answers and Linc POV. I'd love that. Hahaha
There were times I was dying with laughter and other times holding my breath. It was nice seeing Linc so protective of Serena. Serena changed Linc. And, in a very good way. Can't wait for book 2!
This is a debut novel from C.C. Koen and what a debut it was. I picked this book up because of the interesting synopsis and for the most part I was not disappointed. Koen creates a world that you can get lost in. Characters that you can’t help but care for and love.
Serena is a woman that is trying to find her way after her grandmother dies from cancer. She is in an insane amount of debt and is working three jobs to try and fix it. During her catering job she meets Mylaynee who tells her about an escort job that will help her financially. That is when she meets Linc. Lincoln is a mystery. When they first meet he knows there is something different about her. Linc has his secrets and he is willing to do just about anything to keep them. Until he meets Serena.
Their connection is immediate. There is a pull and a tension between them that you can feel through the pages. But their connection is also honest and real despite their secrets. Serena gives him everything and eventually Linc will too. I did have some problems with the actual story line. One, we see Linc kissing B.B but it is never addressed. The make-out session between the man that she “loves” and the harlot is totally glossed over. That brings me to number Two. The whole B.B situation isn’t ever really addressed. In the end Serena sticks up to her but before that she is pretty much a doormat for parts of this book. It bothered me. Three, the stuff with Serena’s mom. I’m not going to tell you much because it’s a spoiler but it seems like it was just forgotten. There is no cliffhanger and until a few days ago I thought this was going to be the only book. So that info was given to us and then just forgotten.
Other than the things listed above I really liked this book. The characters were genuine and really cared about each other. The flow of the story was done well. It wasn’t too fast and it wasn’t too abrupt of an ending either. I would have liked more from the scene at the end but other than that I was happy with the ending. The writing was done well. It was beautiful and poetic at times. This book was a joy to read and I am really happy to hear she is writing another one. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
The synopsis on this grabbed me.... I mean a virgin working in an escort service?? How does that work?? So I dove in.. needing to find out how this was going to play out.... I figured she would get sold to the highest bidder.... but Im not going to tell you... you'll have to read to find out ;)
I didn't love this one. I didnt hate this one. I just felt it kind of drug and then BOOM everything happened at the end and it made it feel rushed. I liked the plot, I like the writing style, I just felt things were drawn out and as I wondered if there would ever be any action, I was overloaded with it in the last few chapters. The last few chapters were amazing. And I wish the entire book was more like they were. Does that make sense??
Now, dont get me wrong, the book was NOT a snooze fest. I enjoyed it. I liked the characters. There was good friction between Serena and some of the other girls she was working with. I loved Serena's character. She was strong, and feisty, and independent. She had a brain and a thought process and she wasn't afraid to use it. She said what she thought and she meant what she said. I adored her.
Linc was lush... I adored him. He was a bit broody, and he his his emotions. I couldn't get a read on him, and he remained a mystery right up to the end. And I loved the way it played out. He was a tortured soul, and when his secret was revealed, his live driving force, I actually cried a bit.... one word --- heartbreaking.
I loved the two characters together. I thought they worked well together. They balanced each other out, and Serena had a good "handle" on "handling" the moody, secretive Alpha Male. And he protected her and every turn. I love the dynamic they had.
I hope there is a follow up. I want to know more and I really hope a book is written about Serena's best friend, Mylaynee. I loved that woman. Wait until you meet her. I want to know all of her secrets. And how she ended up working in an escort service. I want to know about Jax as well. The secondary characters in this book were fabulous. And Im hoping a few of them get their story told.
This a sweet no angst romance. From the beginning you know that Linc Andersen have a attraction and connection. She walks in the door and both are drawn to each other. Only she is their to be a escort to pay bills and get her house back and he’s not only the boss but has guilt over something from his past that isn’t his fault. To keep Serena;s virginity in tact and allow him to get close to her, Linc makes her exclusive to him. Something never done before. So after bartending she goes on to him but they aren’t doing anything but sleeping and getting to know each other. This arrangement does get one of the escorts to be aggressive and cruel to Serena but she handles it. It’s a fun addition to the book because it shows us that Serena is strong but also feels insecure about herself as well. As they get closer they reveal more of themselves and he opens up to her. So so sweet. There is a moment where we really see his devotion and love for Serena when he won’t leave her side.
Serena is kind, hard working and strong. She truly can take care of herself and yet is insecure. Linc is kind gentle and full of guilt.
All the characters are strong and the ones meant to be antagonistic are written in a way that you know they will be trouble and it keeps you intrigued to see what they will do. The friendship between Serena and sage, Paulette, Fallon and mylannee is precious. All the things they do together shows you the type of people they really are. This group helps Serena feel she isn’t alone and has found a family after her gram died. The romance is nicely placed. Attraction instant but the trust and love is slowly built as they get close and know each other. When they finally come together for intimacy it is beautiful and special where their feelings are seen and the action isn’t done to relieve tension but bring them closer to one another. A beautifully tender moment.
A beautiful sweet romance that shows us love can help release someone from guilt and the tethers from the past. That love is supportive and kind. Friendship is forever and can help you feel safe and as if their are people out there for you.

Serena Thomas is a twenty-year old virgin. Feeling backed into a corner, Serena finds herself working at an escort business. Serena is already working two jobs just to get ahead of thousands of dollars in debt. Serena's grandma has lost her battle with cancer leaving behind a long list of medical bills for treatments and her other needs. She also had to quit college to get these jobs, because she was getting so far behind in payments. When Serena's friend Mylaynee offers her a job it will literally turn her life upside and down.
When Mylaynee tells Serena about being an escort she has no clue what she is getting herself into. At the first day on the job she meets Linc the owner. Right off the bat he told her that she will be exclusive to him and only him. The last thing that Serena expected was to be attracted to the man who is in charge of the business, yet alone be exclusive to him. As time goes by she starts develop feelings for Linc. Serena is a strong selfless heroine. She had put her life on hold to be with her grandma through her dying days. And we have Linc who is a sexy, mysterious, and a little broken from his past. The two of them have a bond from an instant connection. I really thought the first night they were together he was going to take her virginity and it wasn't. When they finally did it, it was perfect. Overall, this was an enjoyable story and was a super fast read for me. Since the story was about an escort business I was expecting the story to have a little more steam to the story. Even though it didn't, the story was still great and I would rate it FOUR LEAVES! I enjoyed the secondary characters as well and looking for the next installment in this series.
This is a straight forward hot read about two very unfortunate people who find each other in a really umm.. unconventional situation.
I say straight forward because when they meet, sparks INSTANTLY fly. Now I know what most of you would say.. RED FLAG, RED FLAG... Like at first sight doesn't really work well! I would say that too, but having the chance to read this, I would definitely say that it's not as bad as it sounds.
I also say unconventional because they don't meet the normal way. They meet in a very... hmmmmm... unbelievable circumstance. Let's just say that I'm glad Linc saw Serena first. :)
Now about the characters...
Serena needs help. She's slowly falling apart. Her finances are burnt to cinders and she needs to find a way to make ends meet. She gets offered a job that she absolutely cannot resist. Of course she grabs it, thinking that this could be the solution to all of her problems. She would not get distracted by it all. She wants peace. At least that's what she told herself a few minutes at least before Linc comes into the picture.
Linc is a man with demons. I won't reveal what. Just enjoy unraveling it! I'm telling you, whatever you're thinking right now, THAT'S NOT IT!!! You'll be surprised! :) I like him because he's attentive and even though they have the oddest jobs, he acts like everything is normal and doesn't really make a big deal out of it.
Arrrgghh it's so hard not to put spoilers! hahaha!
They other characters are also essential to this book. Without B.B. (the antagonist), this book would have been kind of boring. Hahaha!
This story is about these two finding the right balance to their relationship. It has mysteries and it's truly hot!
Anyway, this book is good for a first in the series. I almost got pissed when I found out that there's another book. However, a wise man once said... THE WAITING IS SWEETER. :)
An ARC was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.
Intensity was a story of a girl trying to fight her way out of debt and loneliness, but what she will discovers will surpass anything she ever expected. I would give this book a 4 stars. The passion that ignites with this couple will steam up your kindles, and the mystery and angst will have you flipping pages quickly to get the answer your looking for. I will definitely recommend this book to others.
Serena has lost a lot in life and now she finds her self in serious debt because of medical bills from taking care of her grandma. She has multiple jobs to try and pay for her debt and keep her head afloat. One day she is propositioned to work for an escort service.. at first she isn't sure this is something she could even do she's a virgin and men don't want a that, but in the end she gives in to the enticement of the money. Her world will change in an instant when she meets the owner Linc.
Linc is the owner of the Lounge and he made this business for his own personal reason, a demon from his past. But the business gives woman the power to say no if what they are asked to do is too much. He doesn't do relationships his business is his life. But when Serena walks into his club everything will change.
There chemistry and passion will ignite and they will find themselves believing there is more to life than loneliness and misery, but when tragedy strikes and secrets are told will they stick together or will they fall apart? Can the Intensity of there relationship keep them together?
This is the first book I have read by C.C. Koen, I look forward to much more in the future. This book doesn't end in a cliff hanger just ends with many questions to be had...but no worries the second book Serenity will continue their journey and hopefully all of my questions will get answers! Go one-click now!
I loved this book! Holy crap! I love it when a book grabs a hold of me and doesn't let go, offering me an experience that will leave me with a book hangover and let me tell you.... this is that book! This book is full of twists and turns that are totally unexpected. This book was nothing like I expected it to be and I am so glad I gave it a chance.! It was daring, edgy, suspenseful, sexy, naughty, and had one alpha male who knows and takes what he wants.
This is Lincoln (Linc) and Serena's story. Serena is innocent and kind, a total contradiction to the way her life is about to turn. Looking for a job, she has no idea that her life will forever change when she meets Lincoln. Lincoln is an alpha male and takes what he wants, when he wants it. What he wants, he gets and he wants Serena. Their story was beautifully written and held me until the very end. Their relationship is one of intense passion and undeniable chemistry. Neither expected the other but neither can deny what they feel for each other. I loved it when they unleashed their desires.
Linc. Linc. Linc. Perfection of the alpha male. I loved how he was bossy, controlling, possessive, and dominant but in a way that makes you shiver and get your panties wet. These two had chemistry that just sizzled off of the pages. And Serena.... loved her! She grew in this book from an innocent girl to one who could give it as good as she could take it.
That ending... I need book two now! I highly recommend this book! One click it today! You won't be disappointed!
Intensity is very special book, since its story is so different than any other and so damn unpredictable!
Every twist and every turn the story takes is unexpected and brilliantly developed. The characters take us in one helluva ride and we love every second of it!
I couldn’t put it down!!
Serena is such a lovely character! She has a good heart, but she isn’t naive or crying her heart out over men. She is a good and loyal friend. She isn’t fearless; she has fears that she deal with every single day. She is a good girl, but isn’t judgemental regarding others who aren’t.
Linc is well..a good man / alpha male. He has this ‘You’re mine - No one touches you’ thing, but he isn’t overbearing. He protects with elegance, should I say. He’s quite the gentleman for an alpha male, too.
I have to say that everyone should have one Serena as a friend and definitely a Linc as a man!
It’s beautifully written and everything fits perfectly!!
Intensity is a great book and I loved it!
I strongly recommend it!!
However, I would like to say that it’s the FIRST BOOK!! The story continues to the next book or books.
Personally, I strongly dislike when I don’t know this fact before I read the book. I don’t have an issue if it’s a 2 book story or a trilogy. But I do want to know beforehand. Unfortunately, it does not happen.
In conclusion, Intensity is a great book that you MUST READ!!
So, Intensity receives 5 Huge Sparkling Golden Stars!!
3.5 stars out of 5 It was more than trying to improve her life. She was hardly surviving after losing her Grandma, losing the house to foreclosure, and still barely making ends meet while holding three jobs.
Serena was looking for a solution and Linc's offer was a godsend. Being an escort was not an easy decision for her to make. Linc recognized this and he was not about to let anyone touch her.
This was an entertaining story. It shows potential and plot line possibilities for the sequel scheduled for 2015. At times, I was a little lost and had to reread sections. Unfortunately this happened during the peak of excitement int he story. Some sections were not clear as to what was happening to the characters. Like for instance, what was Mylaynee doing in that warehouse with Rick? Who is Rick? If Jax has a team working for him, why conduct the rescue of Mylaynee with only Sal, Linc and Jax? What caused Rick to abduct Mylayney? What is going on with Serena's mother? Why all of a sudden bring her in to the plot line? Then, if she is important to the plot, why drop her altogether after bringing her into the plot?
Overall, the writing and story show much promise. I believe this is the first book written by our author. I would love to read her novels in the future, and watch as her writing continues to perfect. Her storyline is imaginative and sensitive. Looking forward to 2015 publications!
“Often, the unplanned, spontaneous deeds were the type that brought immeasurable joy and in some instances, instilled hope.
“Five weeks from now, April first, I’d be twenty-two. If the date didn’t speak volumes about my life, I didn’t know what did.”
“Double Damn. This man needed his own freaking calendar.”
My Review:
This book is not what I expected after reading the synopsis – it was considerably better. This is the only book I found listed for C.C. Koen, so my expectations were nonexistent. I have learned that reading indie authors can be a crap shoot – some are actual crap, some are diamonds the rough, Intensity is a polished sapphire. Ms. Koen held my interest and kept me guessing. The story is actually rather tame, considering it is about a grieving and financially strapped young woman who is also a virginal wallflower and bookworm, who takes employment as a bartender at a sex club to pull herself out of debt. The story was interesting and unique, the writing flowed smoothly, and the characters were varied and likable, well most of them anyway. It ended rather abruptly, although thankfully, without a dreaded cliffhanger - hate those! But there is apparently more to come in the series, which seems to be the trend these days.
This is a fast pace story, upon reading the blurb I was hooked right away.
Lincoln is a male alpha that most readers will truly love. He is so sweet, caring and loving. I can't read his mind,he have so many secrets that I'm dying to know like what other business he have and I hope the author will also make a sequel using Lincoln's POV.
Serena loves her gram so much, she is very witty and smart. She will do everything for her grandmother.
Author should atleast give some hint who is B.B,what is her relationship with Linc. When Serena saw B.B and Linc kissing,it was not tackle in the story what happens next, did Serena ask Linc about it,did she confront him.
Hopefully all this questions will be answer on Book 2 and I'm dying to read it.
I hope C.C Koen will write a story of Jax and Mylaynee love story. They have chemistry and I think Mylaynee likes Jax.
It's a well written story, full on intrigue and the characters of the story are very unique on their own way.
I can’t wait to see more from C.C Koen and I’m excited to see where else she takes us.
Serena is down on her luck. When her friend Mylaynee tells her about her job as an escort, Serena is skeptical at first. But being in debt doesn’t give you a lot of choices. She takes her friend up on the job offer and becomes a bartender working for Linc.
Everything is smooth sailing, but when the boss starts to show interest in Serena, some of the girls don’t like her to much, but what they don’t know is she can hold her own.
This story is fast paced and jealousy packed. The drama in it is good and had me rooting for Serena. She didn’t take any crap from nobody. There were a few times I wanted to slap her because she let certain things slide with Linc that you just do not let slide. There was no confrontation what so ever. She’s loyal to a fault and was a hard worker.
I really enjoyed this book, but I also think there is a conspiracy going on. This is the third book I read in a row that had a cliff hanger. What the heck is going on? I have to wait for fall, I don’t have that much patience.
I really need to know what is going to happen next with Serena and Linc. I don’t think that’s to much to ask for.
The story starts off with Serena; she gives up so much to be by the side of her sick grandmother. Then when her Gram passes away she is left to pick up the pieces and is left with a huge debt. She is lonely and left alone in this world. Poor thing is only twenty one and left with those responsibilities. She was too prideful to let her Gram know how much debt there was. Her friend Mylaynee was her God send, I guess you could say and offered her a job. What was the job? An escort service and Serena was a virgin. That could be a huge problem…
Serena meets Lincoln, the owner of the Lounge. The Lounge lets the girls pick and choose their clients. When she meets Linc, there is an instant attraction. Linc loves her being innocent and feels the need to protect her. Linc was a player, but boy does he change his ways. He wants Serena and no one else can have her.
Their relationship is fierce, they have an instant connection, and holy cow those love scenes are beautiful.
I loved their story and hope the issues that Linc have will not destroy the relationship. Can’t wait for the next installment and what happens in their adventure.
All I can say is WOW! If this is an idea of a debut novel then I can't wait to see what will follow. This book was refreshingly different. Serena is trying to keep her head above water working three jobs and struggling to pay her grandmother's left over medical expenses. Mylaynee presents her with an option to make more money in a week than she makes with all of her jobs. This opportunity however may be more than she can handle since she does not have the needed experience.
Linc is the the man she sees about her interview. The immediate chemistry between these two is starting. Linc gives her the job with some unexpected duties. I am not going to spoil the amazing story by giving away details about the history or the job because that is one of the things that really make this book.
Both of these characters have secrets ones that are unexpected. This story keeps you interested and unsure what to expect. It has it all drama, suspense, intrigue, and lets not forget passion.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series I have been blown away by this one.
I would love for Linc and Serena's book to have ended with this book but I'm still looking forward to their conclusion.
Linc was hard to get a read on. He was secretive for most of the book but was affectionate with Serena pretty much all the time.
What I did like was that since the first meeting it was set that she was to be "his and only his" which I liked. No games no bullshit, he straight up told her that he wanted her and did everything he could to make her comfortable and happy.
B.B was on my last last nerve I wanted to pull her hair out every time she spoke. When it came to B.B, Serena pretty much became weak not in the sense of she couldn't stand up for herself but in the sense of she let her get into her head and doubt Linc. which pissed me off.
I loved Linc character and I liked Serena. She isn't my favorite for most of the book she's just there but I grew to like her more at the end.
Hopefully we wont have to wait too long in 2015 for the new book.
I read the blurb for this book and received it long before I decided to read it and I am glad I did because I believe the blurb gives a little too much away. But whether or not you agree with me on that, this book was amazing. The characterization is just done so spectacularly you are thrown into the middle of a situation with two people who are extremely independent and honorable.
Lincoln and Serena are two people who are meant for each other and you can tell it from the first time they meet, however, they both have so much emotional baggage and responsibilities holding them back they are not ready to commit to a relationship. Throughout the book the two have to battle their personal insecurities and the ever escalating drama to find the love they are both looking for.
I loved these two characters and the ending to this book was SO sweet but this is by no means the ending to their story. I am very excited to read the next book in this series so I can read more of their love story.
Definitely a mix of sexy and sweet, INTENSITY is an exciting Debut from C.C. Koen.
I honestly wasn't sure where the story was going, but from the first page, just the fantastic descriptions of the surroundings and smells, I felt like I was a part of the story, and that was what kept me reading, page after page, after page!
This contemporary romance with a hint of heat will have you frustrated with Linc, our hero, and wanting the answers to a zillion questions I still have running through my head, which lucky for me, there is the next book (and YES, there is a cliffhanger..NOOOOOO). I still need to know what is up with Linc and B.B....someone PLEASE tell me?!?
I really enjoyed C.C.'s writing style. The story was descriptive without being too wordy, and the chapters didn't drag and the pace was perfect.
Excited for the next in the series, but again be warned...Cliffhanger....WHY?!?
I received a copy of this book from the author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. For some unknown reason when I first started reading this book, I had trouble getting into it. I put it down for a few days, picked it up today and haven't been able to put it down since. At first "sight" Simon and Serena are such interesting and diverse characters. But, when you begin to read and truly understand their characters, there is a parallel in their feelings and emotions that is deep. Mylaynee, Serena's now best friend, is an awesome sidekick. She is smart, funny, and intuitive. Just exactly what Serena needs. Then there's B.B. aka "The Witch", a manipulative and vindictive character. She added to the spiciness of this read in a way that only she could. Other characters were present, and each added their own unique presence to spin this into a great story full of surprises. I'm glad I came back to "Intensity", and look forward to the next book in this series.
I don't want to ruin the story here but......I totally did not expect a story about escorts to be so clean!! The little bit of sex that was there was a little underwhelming to say the least. If you prefer your books to be more PG then for the most part this one is perfect. That being said this is definitely not a YA novel. I would not recommend this book to anyone less than 18 years because of the subject matter.
The other thing I found surprising with this book was it seemed almost spiritual. The protagonists of the story seemed a tad philosophical in their thoughts and with each other. Not that there is anything wrong with that. It's just not something one would expect from this type of book.
Then there was the random bit of action as well. Totally came out of nowhere.
I would give this book a 3 star because the characters were likable, the premise was alright and, there were hardly any grammatical errors.
