Septagenarians to the fore! This is the third book in Simon McCleave's Marshall of Snowdon series. As usual with this author, the scenes he creates come over almost as a screenplay, and his descriptions of the North Wales countryside could almost be a travelogue. Frank Marshall and his friend Annie can't help getting involved in investigating serious crimes occurring in their normally very peaceful surroundings, and this time, it's literally very close to home for Frank. This is a very enjoyable read.
Love Frank and Annie's friendship and how they work together solving crime. Frank is a retired DCI in his early 70s and Annie a retired Judge also in her early 70s. They dice with danger when solving cases under cover so to speak. Luckily Frank and Annie have many contacts from when they both worked who pull strings for them. Add Ethan, Annie's grandson who is an expert on the Internet and we have a winning team. I won't give away any spoilers but if you want a dare devil crime fighting duo in their 70s who always get their man you won't go far wrong. I have read all 3 of the Frank and Annie series and I can't wait for book 4 out soon, and after you delve into these 3 crackers you will be gagging for more..
Brilliant, the way that Simon keeps the one continuous story involving Frank's daughter and wife evolving whilst Frank retired DCI and Annie retired Crown Court Judge are busy solving another case which starts with Annie witnessing a shooting. So must intrigue with twists and turns along way before unearthing the culprit. Then to end with the cliffhanger that does. Would recommend to be read in sequence for best understanding but could be read alone. Bring on number 4.
Number 3 in the series and Frank & Annie are at it again, out policing the police. Again I really enjoyed this. It's a very quick read which I read in one sitting. As before you and the characters are lead down lots of blind alleys, presented with lots of possible culprits only to be completely wrong-footed and stunned who the real villain turns out to be. The subplot continues to delight with an explosive cliff hanger of an ending.
The characters keep developing so nicely and you think you know where it’s headed but it’s too early. Feeding information little by little you say,” ha, I know who it is!” Nope wrong again. I could not put this book done! Simon, you have another great read out there! Thank you for continuing to create magic with your writing!
As usual with your books,Simon, it ended too soon. Or is that the whole idea! Make it flow quickly and leave readers wanting the next installment. Of course it is. I wasn't sure about Frank at first but I've come to enjoy each page and storyline. This had a great story and ended with a new twist making me pre-order the next one. Brilliant as usual.
Another excellent book in the Frank Marshal series. Frank and Annie make a great detective team and work well with the regular police, well most of them anyway. Plenty of twists, turns and blind alleys in this one. Leads nicely onto Book 4, Fatal Love, that will be released at the end of the year.
Excellent book as always. Very tense and great dialogue between the characters with plenty of references to the wonderful areas in North Wales where you can picture the scenery and lose yourself and a few hours. Very difficult to put down any of Simon’s books as usual and can’t wait for the next book in the series
I finished this second book by the author and I must say that I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it almost as much as the first book. I was not as thrilled with the storyline, it was maybe a bit too easy to figure out but enjoyable nonetheless. I look forward to discovering more of this author's books. I like his style.
Another excellent story by Simon in the Marshal of Snowdonia series. All the usual characters and an excellent storyline. Plenty of action with lots of twists and turns and an ending that leaves you wanting to read the next one immediately.Looking forward to reading more.
Can't put these books down so I can get some sleep! Many nights I read till way past midnight. Good thing I'm retired.I'm trying to catch up and read all the books I had no time to read during my on call 24/7 career. Mr McCleave 's books are especially captivating!
As well as his relationships with his wife (who has dementia), his daughter (fleeing from an abusive relationship), and the judge, I really love the relationship that Frank is building with his grandson.
Very enjoyable read I hadn't a clue that Ian was the killer Fhd ending left you on a knife edge after Sam was taken .looking forward to the ext episode
Loved the twisted & turns of this story following Frank & Annie journey to help find the killer. Also the story of Rachel, Catlin & Sam. What a cliff hanger!!!
I once again enjoyed the Frank Marshal crime story.Annie and Frank are a determined and talented pair in solving the crime. It was ingenious that the murderer was in fact a trusted policeman.I hope Simon has a follow up tale.I am sure there is more to come from TJ.
