My first read of this Author and the Character Adam Black. Loved from chapter one and now I have started something and will have to hunt them all down from the beginning. This was a good read. Ended with obviously another book to come. Had me sort of intrigued as had other stories within a story. Came together amazingly well at the end. How do you survive such a gut-wrenching punch learning of a major betrayal in the business he is in. This is a busy book, and I love the Authors way of writing as he makes it interesting and intriguing. Black is cool with logical thinking but a very violent and dangerous man when called for. Who doesn't love some really good bad guys. Don't go past this one as although I have not read the other books it was easy to understand Black's past.

I received a free copy of this book via Bernard's Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a very, very good read that I really enjoyed. Karl Hill has excelled with his writing and delivers a story full of tension, suspense, atmosphere and lots of action. I love the intricate plot line that is so well thought out with lots of separate threads that had me wondering several times how everything would tie up.
Events from previous books return which I certainly didn't expect and, in my opinion, really complement the story and give it so much more depth. Black is asked by a former colleague to find his daughter - but is all as it seems though? I really liked Blacks character development in this book and think the ending is very good, and sets up the next book perfectly. If you like action packed books, good versus bad, with a strong and likeable character who you just root for from the beginning then this is for you.

Adam Black, a former Captain in the SAS, is a trained killer a job he does well. Where he is involved you are guaranteed to have a high death count and that is certainly the case in this book.
Living a nomadic lifestyle in the Scottish Highlands he answers a call from his former boss in the SAS who is in need of his help and his skills. This takes him from Thurso to California and on to Kansas. While away things are kicking off at home with threats made against an innocent couple and elsewhere debts are called in. All intrinsically linked which the author describes perfectly.
This is a high octave thriller and one you will not want to put down until finished.

I loved this. It was full of the usual action that I have come to expect from this author but there's also some interesting plots here, seemingly spurious but nonetheless riveting, which are ultimately tied together in what was an incredible finale.

The characters felt very real to me, particularly Richard and his wife and I felt every minute of the terror and confusion they were experiencing which made the final outcome even more satisfying. The ending has me wishing I had the next book lined up as it promises to be another fantastic experience.

I just love Adam Black, what a brilliant character he really is! This is an excellent thriller which is filled with action and kept me engrossed right until the last page. The plotting was interesting, it all became evident at the end and the characterisation was good. I had empathy for Richard and his wife but none for the bad guys! Looking forward to seeing what's next for Adam, I hope we don't have long to wait. Fans of Reacher will love this read and I highly recommend it to thriller fans.

The main character Adam Black is the Scottish equivalent of Jack Reacher so this book will be enjoyed by all Reacher fans. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish, the plot is good and works well. The characters are nicely built into real people with a good storyline which toggles between two intertwined veins with Adam Black at their core. Can't wait for part two!
