About the author

Katie Kirby is a writer and illustrator who lives by the sea in Hove with her husband, two sons and dog Sasha.

She has a degree in Advertising and Marketing and after spending several years working in London media agencies, which basically involved hanging out in fancy restaurants and pretending to know what she was talking about, she had some children and decided to start a blog called 'Hurrah for Gin' about the gross injustice of it all.

Many people said her sense of humour was silly and immature so she is now having a bash at writing children's fiction. The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks is her first novel.

Katie likes gin, rabbits, over-thinking things, the smell of launderettes and Monster Munch. She does not like losing at board games or writing about herself in the third person.

Kocham Lottie całym sercem

Mam wrażenie, że ten tom jest dużo poważniejszy od poprzednich. Jasne, Lottie wciąż jest sobą, czyli pakuje sie z jednego przypału w drugi, ale śmiałam się dużo rzadziej. Częściej za to byłam pod wrażeniem, w jaki sposób autorka zwraca uwagę na różne problemy spotykające niestolatki w tym wieku i jak sobie z nimi radzić. I za to tę część kocham całym sercem. Jest o prześladowaniu i jak się mu nie dać, jest o okresie, który potrafi zaskoczyć i jak nie dać się zawstydzić chłopcom, kiedy trafi się „wpadka”. Lottie robi się dojrzalsza i chociaż to postać fikcyjna, jestem z niej bardzo dumna.

Uważam, że ta seria to „Pamiętnik księżniczki” generacji Alfa.

We loved this book! In this fourth Lottie Brooks adventure, Lottie starts a new school year, navigates friendships, deals with boy dilemmas, and even goes on her first school trip. It’s funny, relatable, and full of those cringey-but-charming Lottie moments we adore.

My daughter devoured it in just two days — always a great sign! And I really appreciated many underlying messages, but this one that I know is something my daughter and friends are experiencing at the moment: even when your friends make new friends, it doesn’t mean you’re “less” or that the friendship is over. It’s such an important reminder for kids (and honestly, for adults too).

Light, engaging, and full of heart. Highly recommended for young readers who enjoy humour, drama, and a very real look at growing up.

Ten tom podobał mi się mniej od poprzednich części, ale i tak zabawa była przednia. Może moja niechęć wynika z tłumaczenia? Nie zrozumcie mnie źle, było bardzo dobre, jednakże po angielsku więcej rzeczy jesteśmy w stanie wybaczyć, niektóre dziwactwa są całkowicie normalne. Ja np. nie cierpię, kiedy ktoś wplata angielskie terminy, które mają odpowiednik w języku polskim, do konwersacji PO POLSKU. A w tej pozycji taka stylistyka jest normą, co oczywiście ma sens, mowa potoczna cały czas idzie do przodu, no ale jednak, wolę gdy język w powieści jest bardziej spójny, o ile mogę to tak określić. Tym bardziej, gdy tak zwany slang ciągle się zmienia i to co jest modne teraz, za miesiąc będzie kompletną żenadą. Aktualnie wykręca mnie słowo ,,cringe" użyte w zdaniu po polsku. I wielu moich (wciąż młodych) znajomych również.

Co do samej treści. Kilka razy pojawiły się moralizatorskie wstawki wypowiedziane przez bohaterów, ale nie były one wrzucone na siłę, wręcz przeciwnie. Zostały naturalnie wplecione w dialogi z osobami, które w jakiś sposób postanowiły uderzyć w Lottie albo jej ,,gang".

Na dodatek, poruszały naprawdę ważne kwestie społeczne, jak zawstydzanie dziewczynek, tylko dlatego, ponieważ mają czelność dojrzewać (jak one tak mogą? wstydu nie mają?), czy używanie czyjejś orientacji jako obrazy, nawet jeśli ktoś jest hetero, ale nie boi się przytulić przyjaciela tej samej płci. No bo wiadomo, tylko geje i lesby okazują empatię. Oczywiste.

No miód na moje serce. Okres jest naturalny, tak samo jak przytulenie przyjaciela, miłość – niezależnie od płci – czy łzy smutku, szczęścia oraz wzruszenia. I tego właśnie powinny być uczone młode główki.

Raamatu esimene pool mõtlesin, et pidin ma ikka selle lugeda võtma :D No ikka nii minust mööda raamat. Aga siis läks kas paremaks või ma lihtsalt leppisin sellega, et on ka sellised raamatud ja ilmselt oma peamisele sihtgrupile on ta just õige raamat.
Kõikidest teismeliste raskustest hoolimata läks kõik siiski hästi. Vahel ma mõtlesin, et kas ma olin ka teismelisena selline?!? :D
Kohati jäi mulje, et sõbrad tal käitusid ka temaga veidi intetult. Samas, kui vaja, siis ka seisid tema eest.
Ühes asjas pean nõustuma, et Amber ei pruugi olla parim versioon või ettekujutus sõbrast, aga üks selline kulub tõesti ära.

to była świetna przygoda, uwielbiam ten format pamiętnika Lottie i na pewno przeczytam pozostałe 2 tomy🙌🏼🔥 Może ta książka nie zmieniła mojego życia ale w niektórych momentach totalnie relowałam z Lottie i było to świetne odcięcie się od rzeczywistości + to moja pierwsza (tak długa) książka po angielsku, jestem z siebie dumna🤝🏼😜

Good book
I expected a bit better though.

I don't have much to say really
other than
Lottie goes on a school trip doesn't get put with jess or poppy,
she gets put in a cabin with Amber and Molly.
Not much is good with her and daniel after what happened in france.
Other than that just jess gets her period

Not the best Lottie brooks book
and could change some parts.
