Rate this book
The fifth book in an award-winning, easy-to-read series about a boy and his pet fly, each book in the series has a fun foil cover!

Mom and Dad won't let Fly Guy go along on the family road trip. They're afraid he'll get lost. But when Dad accidentally shuts him in the trunk, Fly Guy goes along for the ride! First, Fly Guy gets lost at the picnic site--but he shows up in the garbage can. Then he gets lost at the art museum, but he shows up as part of a modern painting. At the beach, he turns up in a shell, and at the amusement park, on Buzz's hot dog (yuck!). Zany illustrations and easy-to-read text make this a fun reading adventure for the beginner. Tedd grew up with three brothers. His family lived on a farm in Pennsylvania for several years then returned to Elmira until Tedd was ten years old. His father's work then required that they move to Gainesville, Florida. There, Tedd's first art lessons in an abandoned dentist's office over the Happy Hour pool hall eventually led to a fine arts degree from the University of Florida.

He and his wife, Carol, started their family in Tallahassee where Tedd worked as a commercial illustrator. Carol, a kindergarten teacher, drew Tedd's attention to children's books. Their first son, Walter, inspired his breakthrough picture book, NO JUMPING ON THE BED!.

He and his family now live in Elmira. His second son, William, now stars in NO MORE WATER IN THE TUB!, a sequel to his first book. He has now published over 50 books as author and illustrator.

It's time for a road trip with Buzz and Fly Guy. When Buzz and his family decide to go on a road trip, they think Fly Guy might not be well suited to the experience. Slipping into the trunk, Fly Guy makes his way along the journey with them, only to experience wonderful adventures. After an art gallery, picnic, and amusement park, it's time to go home. Alas, Buzz's parents seem to be lost. Will Fly Guy be able to assist? Neo remembers our recent road trip and how much fun it might have been to have another friend along for the ride. I encourage him to bring some books and discover what adventures await him there. The new reader will likely enjoy this piece for all its colourful and descriptive pictures to accompany easy phrasing.

Proud mom moment: At story time tonight my 6yo son read this book to me (instead of me reading to him). It's the first book he's read by himself! 😁💖👏

My son got a few of the Fly Guy books for Christmas and he loves them. We'll definitely be getting more. These books are fun, filled with humor, and there's always a lesson to learn.

I think I love Fly Guy as much as Frank. I hope he writes many more of these books. They are so cool, delightful, funny, etc...

This one was especially cool. I can probably only say that because it's the one we most recently had. Anyhow, this one had two pages in particular that both Frank and I loved, the page that had the map of the city they drove through, and the page with all the cars ("They drove and drove and drove and drove....") Frank was laughing his little head off...

Fly Guy has become a favorite in our house. I enjoyed reading this one with my six year old son. This book is perfect for new readers. The author utilizes shorter sentences and repetitive words. When I got this from the library at work I did not realize there were so many other books in this series. Perhaps I will read more of them this semester with my son!
Fly Guy is a winner in my eyes.

I think Wolfie enjoys these as a reasonable substitute after finishing all the elephant and piggie books. He finishes these in one sitting.

Fly guy was a great book. I loved it because it was a simple fun and easy read. It has changed me because it was probably one of the first books i've ever read.

Text to teaching connection; I had my third grade group read this book with me. Easy reading, once they were finish they were to write a timeline of all the adventures that the fly guy had gone on. Then we would read it back and compare our stories and timeline it the book. We then will discuss all the different places that they had visited. This could be your share time.
My only complaint was something’s i think the illustration was to busy and distracted my readers.

Fly High, Fly Guy! by Tedd Arnold is a story about a boy and his family road trip, and how his fly tags along on the trip with his disapproving parents. I thought that the illustrations were fun, especially the one of the city, but the plot was not too great. I felt like the book was extremely boring and the plot didn't give Arnold much to work with. I feel like a book about how a fly saves the day is going to be really boring and cringy, which this book definitely lived up to. But this book did have a pretty good ending, so it did somewhat redeem itself at the end.

I rated this book 2 stars because it was really bland and didn't have any unique qualities that made the book exciting or interesting like all of the other children's books did. This book was upsetting because I had high expectations for it.

I would not recommend this book to a child who is looking for a great children's book. There are much better options out there for children.

This was such a cute and fun book with amazing illustrations! It is so refreshing to see some beautiful illustrations break up the constant words contained in books. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. I've forgotten this recently in strictly reading books with zero pictures, and I'm glad that this book helped me remember the power pictures have to really make a story. Repetition was very clear in this book, and I think this is an excellent strategy to emphasize important words and themes to kids. This book would serve as a great material for teaching children to read while taking them on an exciting literary adventure. This book took me back to my younger years and I can only imagine how much a young child would love reading this book.

I think this book is really good for young children ages 6-7 to be able to read. The bright pictures give them something fun to look at while they are reading. It also has a cute story behind it. After reading it, it is not a hard read and many children seem to enjoy this book as a whole. There are not many words on each page and they are bigger words which is also a convenience. It has a cute meaning behind the story to get the kids thinking. They say in the beginning that fly guy can't come because he is too small but then in the end they relied on him to get them back because they were lost. This shows the children that no one is ever too small to be able to do something, if you want to do it, you can do it.

Fly Guy isn't supposed to come on the family road trip. Buzz's parents are worried he'll get lost, he's so small after all. But Fly Guy sneaks into the trunk and comes along anyway. When mom and dad get lost, it's Fly Guy to the rescue as he uses his super fly eyes to fly high and spy the way home.

This is a fun series for any beginning reader.

This story follows the life of Buzz and his best friend, Fly Guy, as they go on a family road trip to visit an art museum, beach, and amusement park. I thought that the illustrations were great but the overall story was rather dull. There was no message to take away from the story but I don’t think a child would get the understand the meaning anyways. One aspect I really liked was that the drawings looked like they were taken from a cartoon show that would’ve been on TV. When I saw the pictures, I felt very nostalgic for my childhood years.

One of my favorite books growing up as a kid. This book is about a little boy and his pet fly and he wants to take him on vacation but his parents say no because he is too small. It turns out that Fly Guy snuck into the car and went on vacation and at the end of the story, fly guy ended up leading the way and saving the day. I loved this story because it teaches kids that no matter how small you are, you can accomplish anything. I enjoyed reading it again as an adult and seeing what message this silly little children's book actually brings out. Great read.

Fly High, Fly Guy! is an inspirational masterpiece. The work Tedd Arnold does make me understand that there really is a God. The themes in this particular edition of Fly Guy has Fly Guy flying high. His adventures up high make the reader immersed in their own ability to fly high. This helped me especially as I was going through a divorce and lost custody of both of my children. Thank you, Fly Guy, thank you.

This easy to read story is about a boy, Buzz and his pet fly, Fly Guy. Buzz's parents didn't want Fly Guy to go on an upcoming road trip because he was small and might get lost. Fly Guy gets stuck in the trunk. The book is about the adventures that Fly Guy gets to experience. In the end, Fly Guy is a hero and Buzz's parents are very happy he came along on the trip.

In the short story by Tedd Arnold, Fly Guy accidentally comes along for the road trip. They make many stops and whenever the parents thought he was lost, he would reappear. When the family is in trouble Fly Guy flies high, and leads the family to safety. The story was simple, but the pictures helped to add to the story.

Hombre Mosca must help the family on a car trip in this riveting book. The story reminds me of "National Lampoon's Vacation" movie, except with a fly as the protagonist. Can a "National Lampoon's Vuela Alto, Hombre Mosca!" motion picture be far behind? Will Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo reprise the roles of the Griswolds in this latest "Vacation" sequel?

cute book. Great for my son to work on his reading. They are considered chapter books, but they are short chapter books. So, my son is excited that he read a chapter book! :) But overall, they are good books!

Asha really likes these fly books. I find flies rather disgusting, but hey, horses for courses. The book's illustrations are amusing which is enough to get a thumbs up from me. Also the idea of having a fly for a pet is inherently funny

I'm not necessarily opposed to befriending a pest and Fly Guy seems a convivial enough fellow to chum around with but I found the story here aimless and lacking. Underdeveloped characters aside from a fly with unusually good eyesight isn't a recipe for re-reads.

Not the best of the series so far but a cute addition. The family is off to have some summer fun and don't bring Fly Guy because he might get lost. But Fly Guy is taken accidentally and gets to have some fun with Buzz. Fly Guy even gets to save the day :)

Buzz and Fly Guy save the day! Another cute, humorous story that beginning readers will enjoy. I liked this one the best of the series. It was fun finding Fly Guy in each picture to see how he was enjoying the vacation.
