Adrian Lessons

Rate this book
If there’s one thing Cleo Reynolds knows, it’s that she’s not into Adrian King.

The son of a model with the looks to prove it, the experienced author of her school newspaper’s sex advice column, the cocky playboy with a hint of darkness. That Adrian King.

Nope. Nuh-uh. No way.

The problem is, he’s very into her.

After accidentally flashing him, and slightly-less-accidentally-but-still-totally-unintentionally making out with him in front of the whole class, she expects to be called crazy. Instead, he asks her out.

Cleo’s determined not to end up as another notch on his bedpost. Except she hasn’t done…you know…it in a while. (Read: ever.) And as a girl who pays her tuition by writing all the sex scenes in her roommate’s bestselling romance series, the lack of inspiration has served up a fat slice of writer’s block.

Until her roommate proposes that Cleo and Adrian act out all the steamy scenes in her book.

It’s just research. No feelings involved.

Nope. Nuh-uh.

No way.

L.A Rose recently made it out of college alive and with an English degree. She's a habitual beach bum and a not-exactly-recovered romance addict. She's also plucked up the courage to become an indie author! ADRIAN LESSONS, a New Adult contemporary romance to be released on August 25th, is her first book - if you don't count the ones she wrote before she finally came up with something publishable. (She prefers not to.)

'I've known the guy for literally five minutes. He saw my boobs, I volunteered to let him taste me in Psych Lab, I proceeded to taste him, and suddenly it's his holy mission to get me to go on a date with him. He's probably on crack. I'm probably on crack. We're all on crack, because there's no way this is real.'

Sex-scene-writer-extrodanaire Cleo starts suffering from writers block and her bestie enlists the help of desperate-for-a-date-with-Cleo Sex King Adrian.

If you're easily amused, love dry wit, silly humour and dick jokes, 'Adrian Lessons' is for you.

It's not without a few dodgy lines...
'I want to explain to her that I’ve slept with lost of girls, but never because I didn't respect them – because when I saw her again, I wanted to do the kinds of things to her that she deserved to have done.'

It's an easy, silly read, with no depth, lots of far fetched-ness and stereotypical characters but a bat-shit crazy heroine, the latter was my favourite thing about the book. Will try more from the author.

Trama:

Me hizo sonreír bastante.

Pues no. Ella mira.

This book was hilarious - laugh out loud funny. It was also very sexy with a good amount of steam and sexual tension. I absolutely loved this one!! Cleo is so funny and you just can't help but love her. She is strong, witty and hilarious. Adrian is hot, funny, and a sex king. I love that there is a dual pov in this book - it made it even better! There are some parts in this book that are a little far-fetched and it may not be for everyone but if you are looking for a sexy, lighthearted romance with a swoon-worthy male and lots of laughs, this is the book for you. I can't wait to read more by this author! Highly recommend!!!

Manwhore Hero and virgin heroine! H's sexual exploits are legendary and described in some detail. I found it icky , esp. when they were talking about how he made random girls 'squirt', gave them hours long orgasms and his policy of at least four Os for a girl every single time. His nickname is Sex King bcos he actually has a column answering questions for readers who write in and he himself says he has earned the title - sex is his favourite thing in the world. I don't know whether to laugh or cry with a hero like this.
The only things that make the book bearable are the heroine who's real and hilarious and sweet, though she is bit of a wuss, the witty n funny situations, dialogue and how much the H clearly adores the h - makes you wonder though why he didn't make an effort to find her, introduce himself, befriend her if he was so crazy about her all these years instead of f*cking his way, with great enjoyment, across the female coed population, plus random models, for years.
H pursues the h once he comes across her again, now they are in the same college. He's always sweet and respectful, though.
Books with manwhore heroes like these are so easily accepted and liked by many , I wonder if the same author wrote about a heroine who loved sex, was so experienced that she had her own sex column, whether it would be accepted without judgement, or even popular.
Waiting for the double standards to crash and soon!

Reading Adrian Lessons definitely made my day or should I say, night, rather. I just devoured the whole book for a whole night. Even for a quick read, I have to this book is definitely one of the best I've ever read.

Cleo is on a dry spell. She's stuck and can't get her head properly to write erotic romance for her best friend/roommate. Meanwhile, Marie, her author best friend, thinks Cleo needs all the help she can get, even if it means anonymously writing the Sex King for advice on her behalf.

Adrian King is the Sex King and runs an sex advice column on the campus paper. What more could he wish for when he finds out his long time high school crush is in campus and was the anonymous sender who happens to be an erotica writer, asking for sex advice? Okay, well the letter wasn't exactly sent by Cleo, but it could count as the same thing.

Enter a matchmaking author roommate (who writes great romance novels but can't write smut), Cleo and Adrian are forced to act out the hook ups in order to trigger Cleo's creative juice.

I love everything about this book; the humor, the context, and the author's writing style. The whole story is written in first person, and not just simply flat out narration, but a genuine welcome to what most girls and guys think of. I enjoyed Cleo's narrative, especially the fact that she thinks hilariously. Definitely relatable. Her character is just lovable and absolutely fun to read. She's random with over the top hilarity and definitely does not register the meaning of "filter", because she's got none of it.

Adrian, on the other hand, was cute and creepy at the same time, especially when his sudden "obsession" (as Cleo would put it) with her suddenly went out in the open, up to the point of him ending his sex advice column as the sex king. Now, I'd say that was definitely sweet. I love how Adrian is a truly passionate character, and not the type to mess around hearts despite his promiscuity.

The only thing I disliked about this book was that it was too predictable. However, despite my comment, I loved this book from beginning to end. Can't wait to read more of L.A. Rose.

(P.S. I already had this review written since Sept. 16, and it was until now that I realized I hadn't shared it here on Goodreads yet)

The conversation between Uterus and Brain, with a little incentive from Heart is probably some of the best and funniest dialogue I’ve read – especially in this new world we call New Adult Genre. I swear it had me laughing so hard I was gasping for breath. Once again the setting is a college campus and as always a sexual campus god, along with another heartbroken coed as the main characters, but the "sameness" to so many others stops there! Rose delivers a truly unique and hilariously outstanding read. From start to finish, I adored every word.

The characters are devilishly captivating and absolutely addictive. I’m saying nothing else – the blurb gives readers enough temptation. But I will add a suggestion, “GO READ IT NOW.” This book will bring laughter into your day with over-the-top wit and zaniness, just the right amount of sexual chemistry and screaming with steam!

Only one teeny tiny oops for some readers might be the pieces of cheesiness that are scattered among the pages. I just laughed at them and continued on with a smile. So, yes there are a few blemishes, but I've yet to read one without them!

This is my first book by L.A. Rose – it won’t be my last!

It's a sad sad day for my NA books...

This one has been on my "on-hold" shelf for months and as much as I want to finish it, (I've been dying to read this one) I just can't.

It's that NA thing again and I really can't get past the consistent description of the MC's hotness and the irrepressible sexual urges between the H and H.

Please, enough.

I won't stop you from reading this though. A lot of my friends like this and the author is really great..

“Your genius plan to revitalize my writer spirit fell through. I’ll just have to go to India to discover myself like that chick in Eat, Pray, Love, Sleep, Masturbate and whatever else.”

Sometimes you need a fun laugh out loud while falling in love with the characters book. Adrian Lessons was PERFECT for that. I was constantly texting my book BFF quotes because someone else needed to see the craziness and awesomeness that was this book.

“Sometimes I want to write her Catholic parents a strongly worded letter. And by ‘strongly worded’ I mean I want to send them a piece of paper with the word ‘COCK” typed fifty times in a row. Just to watch them detonate.”

Cleo has a secret . . . she loves to write smut. Not sweet romances but make your panties disappear because it is so HOT smut. Her best friend and roommate has a secret too, she is a best selling romance author who is so repressed she cannot write her own sex scenes in her books. So this is a partnership made in dirty heaven, her roommate gets to be a bestselling author and Cleo gets a third of trhe money to pay for school. So where is the problem you ask . . . Cleo has writers block ever since breaking up with her boyfriend of three years. This all lead to her BFF sending in a letter to the campus SEX KING who also happens to be the boy desperately pursuing Cleo, Adrian! While all this sounds great “The Sex King” on paper and email is a bit of a douche and rubs Cleo the wrong way, while Adrian the man is actually sweet and has had a crush on Cleo for a long time. All of this crazy and intricate plot leads along with a lot more craziness I do not even have time to go into lead to Adrian and Cleo acting out some of the scenes in the book she is working on to inspire her all because she owes her partner/BFF BIG TIME!

“We all have unrealistic dreams, okay? I want to streak across Fenway Park. You want to go out with me. Both will never happen.”

You know those books you just cannot shut up about and annoy all your friends with non stop quotes from (come on you know you do) this was that kind of book for me! I am a NA lover and a romantic comedy lover and this book blended all that with a sweet romance and a touch of drama and angst into a great read! I was literally laughing out loud on something on almost every page and I could not put the book down. Cleo is witty and smart and doesn’t take shit. Adrian is model sexy and charming and can have any girl he wants. You just desperately want them together and watching the lengths Adrian will go to prove they are right for each other makes for a great read. Ok, I need to stop I could go on and on but honestly just trust me and go buy this book and start it now!

Istyria book blog ~ B's world of enchanted books

4.5 stars

I love it when books end up surprising me! I didn't expect much when I accepted the author's review request for this book to be honest. But she was so nice and I agreed to help her out with her blog tour too. So when I was making this blog post, I read the excerpt she gave me. And I was curious. So I started the book. And I loved it!

Cleo pays most of her college tuition by writing the sex scenes in her room mate/best friend's books and she's pretty good too. But lately it hasn't been going so well. That is, until Adrian King comes into her life. So after accidentally flashing him and then kissing him in class in front of everyone a few days later, her room mate decides that he is the perfect candidate to help her out of her writer's block. By playing out all the scenes she has to write. But there's more to Adrian then meets the eye. He has an hidden darkness inside of him and a connection to Cleo that nobody knows about.

As for the story, it's not really that original. It's hard to be original these days so it all depends on the way it's written. As for this book, it surprised me, like I said! There's an alternating POV between Cleo and Adrian and both have unique voices. Cleo is so hilarious. I laughed a lot in this book! There was so much humor I haven't really seen in this kind of book. But Cleo is also very self-consious. She's coming out of a serious relationship of three years with a guy who never wanted to have sex with her (for very obvious reasons too... Obvious to everyone but Cleo). She thinks very lowly of herself and I could relate to her a lot!

On the other side we have Adrian. He's not the guy he makes himself out to be at all. He's very sensitive and sweet and has been crazy about Cleo for years. Of course he's also delicious and very hot. I don't blame Cleo for how she acts around him in the beginning. I'd be the same I think. I loved their chemistry and how they grew throughout this book. It's not very long though so I read it pretty quick. The ending was very sweet! The only bad thing about this novel was that there were a few minor typos. It didn't bother me that much but I think this book would gain a lot of an editor went over it again.

Adrian Lessons was surprisingly good! The main characters have great chemistry and there's a lot of humor in this book which I loved! If you're a fan of new adult contemporary, I'd definitely recommend this one!

I expected this to be a read where I would laugh my ass off, and it was. I burst out laughing more then once, from both Cleo's and Adrian's PoV. Sadly, as fun as thoughts and dialogue were most of the time, it was hard to take the whole story serious. Even more so since Adrian was all shades of Christian Grey's money-careless, horny, and a few other things, but without any of the jaded parts -- too good to be true, even for a fictional story. I would've liked just a little of that darkness from his past, to make him actually human and not like some fairy tale prince. Cleo was okay for the most part, but then there came the point where she revealed she was even more naive than a five-year-old, and had no fight at all. I'm not saying superficial or spineless, but... a princess. So they actually made the perfect couple, it was positively all pink fluffy hearts.

You can't expect much from the plot, either. Even for a story that short, it was just once too often the same sexual up and down, and it just grew more absurd each time. Without plot, it just gets boring after a while, you know? This wasn't properly balanced at all. BUT it was fun, lots of wit and fun. At least.

Area Scan: Flow: 5/5 -- Vocab: 3/5 -- Plot: 2/5 -- Heroes: 2/5 -- Sidekicks: 2/5 -- Romance: 3/5 -- Drama: 3/5 -- Action: 2/5 -- Suspense: 2/5 -- Idea: 2/5
Overall: 2.5/5

Okay, so I wasn't sure on this book and spent a lot of time debating whether I should buy it or skip it. The teaser on the Kobo site was what finally got me to cave (that and the fact that no local library I could find had the book on their shelves). Very happy that I did cave. Adrian and Cleo were a hoot, and I enjoyed their relationship and how it evolved. Yes, the situation in which they found themselves was orchestrated for the book. But it's fiction, so suspend diselief folks and dive on in. Now, I just have to decide whether the James Games will be as good and worth the investment.

How many more times does he have to say he's hot or sexy in this book for him to shut up ? I don't really need him telling me 30 times. Other than that the book was kinda okay?

When I finished Adrian Lessons last night, I knew exactly what I was going to type. I had all my thoughts together, and as soon as I fired up my laptop to begin, BAM, all of my thoughts scattered like scared mice. So after 10 minutes of brainstorming how I was going to describe this story, I came up with one word . . .
Crazy!

Saying this book was good just isn't enough. It was fun, entertaining, and beyond Hilarious. I haven't laughed that hard while reading a book in ages.

Warning, Do NOT Drink Any Beverages While Reading This Book. Choking And Coughing May Occur.

Adrian Lessons is centered around our two main characters Cleo and of course, Adrian. Let's get to know Cleo first.

Cleo is the roommate that you cross your fingers and hope to god that you end up with in college. She's so freaking funny, that any conversation with her would be an experience in itself. Her dialogue is that good. What makes this book so interesting is that Cleo is actually a writer. Well, sort of. Her best friend and roommate Marie, has a three-book romance deal with HarperCollins. (cool right?) But since Marie can't bring herself to write "smut" as they call it, she get's her experienced friend, or so we thought, to write all the "steamy" scenes. So they make a deal. Cleo is to write all the sex scenes for Marie, and use the advance money to pay for her upcoming semester. While Marie meets the deadlines and doesn't get dropped from her deal with HC. It's a win, win situation for everyone . . . until Cleo suddenly runs into writers block. The worst situation for an author under a deadline. Afraid that Cleo won't be able to continue, Marie suggests that she has a one night stand with a random guy just to get some inspiration to write. She feels her friend has been a little "high & dry" lately, and may need some loving to get those creative juices flowing, if you know what I mean. *Wink, Wink*

"It's friday night, I'm a little drunk, and I took Marie's advice and hooked up with a rando ..."

Okay okay, so she didn't exactly hook up with the guy. Next option Marie!

Still concerned that Cleo will continue to slack on her story, Marie seeks advice from the "Sex King", an anonymous guy who writes for a sex column in the school's newspaper. You email him your questions, anonymously of course, and he answers them.

" Dear Sex King,

I write erotic fiction for a living, but recently I've been unable to come up with anything. Writer's block. I think it has something to do with the fact that I got out of a long relationship recently, and haven't had sex since. I'd love to rediscover my sexual side and hopefully stimulate my muse in the process. Any ideas for how I should go about doing this?

Sincerely,
High and Dry "

" Dear High and Dry,

It sounds like you need a serious wake up call. So you dates some loser for three years and now you're free? Don't talk about this like it's some difficult thing for you- when you're forty and miserably married to some other loser, these will be the days that you look back in when you please yourself at night (because your husband definitely won't). Take advantage of this, full throttle. My advice? Fuck the nearest thing with legs. You need a good time.

Best of luck. "

Cleo was a little bothered by the fact that Marie went to such an extreme to get her back on track, but nothing prepared her for when she found out exactly who the Sex King was. Now on to our second character.

Adrian is one of those really cute popular boys that you think is self-centered, shallow, and just an all around ass. But surprisingly he was much different.

" There's something about growing up that means understanding cliche's. Life isn't fair, etc- lines you hear all the time as a kid but never get, until that one moment when you understand why they're embedded in the lexicon of humanity. So I hope you can forgive me if I tell you that she takes me breath away."

Adrian, Oh Adrian.
Insert Heart Eyes Emoji Here.

He has a bit of a dark past, which weirdly involves Cleo, (unbeknownst to her though) and that kind of plays a huge part in his storyline. The lack of commitment, the refusal to settle down, both issues effect his life in negative ways until he meets Cleo again. That's right I said AGAIN. It turns out that Adrian had a big crush on Cleo back when they were in high school. She never knew Adrian, but he vowed that if he ever seen her again, he wouldn't let her go. Let's just say he stays true to his word. But things really start to unravel once the story begins to shift into high gear.

What I loved the most about this book besides the humor, was Adrian and Cleo's "friendship". They had so much fun together, a little too much damn fun if you ask me lol, but it was such a great experience to see Adrian bring Cleo out of her comfort zone. He introduced her to things that were far from what she was used to, and seeing her character develop over time into someone that was sexy, confident, and self-assured was definitely a pleasure. Anyone that has read Adrian Lessons, will agree with me when I say another favorite was the re-enactment of the scenes between "Amelia and Johnathon." What makes Ms.Rose such a brilliant author, is her ability to pull you into the story. We get the chance to actually read some of the "steamy" scenes in Marie's book, demonstrated by Cleo and Adrian.

(Just think of an actor and actress rehearsing their lines for a movie if you're confused.)

" He touches me like a violin master touches his favorite instrument . . . Keep talking, I order her. Tell me about this."

That was just a taste of what the re-enactment scenes have to offer. Actually the sex scenes in this book get so intense, I thought my eyes were forever going to be bulged out of my head. Now I'm a 25 year old mother, so I know all about the bird dipping into the bee's honey, but CHILE, I was not ready for this!

"His tongue moves around the edge of my slit as his fingers pump into me, fast and then slow. He licks the grooves around my . . . "
Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

As I state in all of my reviews, I like to keep a good balance between what I liked about the book, and what I disliked. Sort of like a Venn Diagram. Without the middle section of course.

Anywho, one of the main things I didn't like about Adrian Lessons, was that the supporting characters were a bit underdeveloped. They felt like extras in a movie you'd never notice, and I was quite disappointed that I didn't learn more about them. In the story, Cleo actually has a class with Adrian, Psych Lab. There she meets a group of girls who are also in her Psychology Club. Tanisha, Elise, and June-Ann, reminded me of my friends and I when we're chilling, talking about boys. Their dialogue was so entertaining, that I actually called one of my female friends and said, "Omg doesn't this sound like us?" I really enjoyed these three girls and their crazy personalities, I just wish they made more of an appearance in the story. Secondly, I was hoping we would touch basis on Adrian's dark past. I don't want to spoil anyone, so I won't go into actual detail, but I was hoping to find out what exactly led to that night. I guess I was looking to read more narrative on the moments leading up to his decision, after, and maybe even the moment where he thought to seek after Cleo again. I sound so nosey lol. My last dislike would have to be that the story was really predictable, atleast for me. I found myself already knowing what was going to happen within the chapters, and that kind of ruined some moments for me. But thank goodness none of these small flaws took away from my reading experience.

I wish I could sit here and chit chat all about this book, but you know Tika only gives SPOILER FREE reviews. So if you're looking for a quick, hilarious, scorching hot story, that will have you cranking up your AC because it's so steamy, then pick up this book! You will not be disappointed.

It was...okay. Okay, it was funny as hell in the first few chapters and it just spiraled downward after their first date. The spiraling was so sudden, I thought the book was written by two people. The sappiness was too much sometimes. I gave this two stars because there are only a few books that have made me laugh out loud. The sense of humor of this heroine deserves a rotfl moment.

Sadly, the momentum was not sustained. The sex scenes were hot but kind of over the top. Realistically speaking, I just can't imagine ANY guy waiting for the girl to have at least four orgasms before getting off. Really? Who has the time?

This had soooo much potential. Honestly, after approximately 13 chapters of back and forth between the characters I was just tired of their story and I skipped some pages.
Buuut, the writing was quite entertaining?

Cleo’s always written the sex scenes in her roommate’s successful romance novels, but it seems her muse has flown the coop, and everything she tries to write now morphs into something entirely unromantic. But when her roommate coerces her into using the hottest guy on campus to spark the heat back into her writing, specifically by acting out some of the foreplay until her muse takes residence again, Cleo finds herself in over her very chaotic head.

Judging Covers: I do like the clean, rather lighthearted look of it, but I’ve got to ask, why is Adrian upside down?

The Verdict: Once you get used to Cleo’s rather spastic narrative, this book is a lot of fun. Cleo is adorably awkward, often saying exactly what’s on her mind, no matter how odd or out of place her words may sound. But instead of it resulting in utterly mortifying scenes, it’s simply hilarious — with a side of slight embarrassment, I suppose. But she handles it well, cruising right through everything with wit and sarcasm that kept me laughing.

Adrian… Well, I wasn’t so sure about him at first. He pretty much explains that he’s God’s gift to women as soon as he gets his own POV, and it’s really hard to like a guy that thinks that way, no matter how much you want him to be the perfect guy. In fact, I almost put the book down at his “practice makes perfect” rationale. Fortunately, though, he ‘s pretty funny in his own right, and he’s clearly interested in more than simply sleeping with Cleo. He not only puts up with her crazy, but he plays along and enjoys it, so he redeemed himself enough that I was actually looking forward to the happily ever after instead of wondering just what Cleo saw in him.

However, there were several things in the book that simply didn’t make sense to me, and I think perhaps if it had been longer, there would have been ample time to explain. For one, Cleo’s roommate is supposed to be so shy about sex that she can’t write her own sex scenes in her novels, and she can barely say the word without blushing. Yet she had no issue standing by and practically directing as Adrian and Cleo got pretty close to naked and engaged in some heavy foreplay. Also, Adrian was the college campus hottie, yet he was practically invisible in high school. Was he gangly and pimply faced? Ten inches shorter than he is now? Overweight? I don’t recall him mentioning some major transformation, so just how is it that the girls weren’t pouncing on him in high school?

The situation that brings Cleo and Adrian together, while fun, isn’t exactly believable. Not that romances are entirely realistic, but for a while there, I was wondering why Cleo, who had no trouble speaking her mind at the most inopportune times, didn’t simply tell Marie off. While the whole “act out your scenes with Adrian” bit led to some incredible chemistry and was an easy excuse for Cleo to act on her attraction to him, it was a little too much of that typical romance novel thing. You know, where the otherwise independent heroine gets bullied into some uncomfortable situation by her best friends, and in the end she’s actually grateful for their harassment/coercion/blackmail because… Well, I don’t know why. Because she’s fictional, and that makes unrelenting peer pressure okay, I guess.

But despite all that, I still really enjoyed the book, mostly because Cleo was the kind of heroine that so many try to write and just get wrong. She’s random and weird, often hilarious, and while not the most confident girl in the world, she’s not a mess of insecurity. Her taco addiction, her odd tendency to turn fictional men into lizards, her strange commitment to a promise she made to her sister when they were barely in puberty… It’s a pretty awesome combination that makes her wonderfully different than most girls you read about in new adult romance stories. The fact that Adrian enjoyed Cleo’s special brand of crazy ended up making him very likable, despite my initial reservations, and toward the end, I was just dying for them to finally get their alone time — uninterrupted.

So yeah, I obviously had a lot of thoughts and a good number of questions as I was reading the book, but don’t start thinking I didn’t like it. I’m pretty sure I would have just written it off as boring or typical instead of wondering about every little detail if it had actually been a mediocre read. The truth is that I thoroughly enjoyed it and would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for something a little steamy, a lot funny, and wonderfully lighthearted. Adrian Lessons is a step above other debut novels, and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for more from this author.

Amazing

Funny, witty and very charming. Great character development (some of the plot was a little ridiculous) but it was amazing.
I enjoyed every single word.

Note: I was provided a copy of this book for review.

Adrian Lessons is a new adult contemporary romance and after finishing this book I can certainly say it is definitely more adult than not. The story revolves around Cleo, writer of erotic fanfiction and ghost writer for the sex scenes in her friend’s romance novels, who soon finds herself infatuated by a guy in her class, Adonis-like Adrian King. Conflicted and lustful she tries to fight her feelings but is soon drawn into those green eyes.

Cleo thinks Adrian is only there for the sex, but he proves her wrong and it is quite sweet and thoughtful, though he does have desires of his own they aren’t the sole focus of his courtship. Being inside his mind and knowing this from that start gives us an advantage and only helps our opinion of him, we are on his side from early on, hoping he’ll succeed.

I liked Cleo; she is self conscious, always doubting herself and her looks, but is also a little wild and crazy at the same time. She talks to her organs, gives herself pep talks, and she has a relationship and conversations with inanimate objects. This I understand. She also has enough sense to be cautious and wary, but not so much that she won’t take chances and have fun.

Adrian is also not the jovial character he seems with his dark side being uncovered and with secrets he’s reluctant to share. Even though we are given a deeper, darker side to Adrian that only added to his character, I wanted more. I could sense there was more hiding behind that smile and charm, something Cleo picks up on and I knew there was more to be revealed, but nothing else came. I know it wouldn’t have added to the story any more than it had already, but it would have been nice to explore it more deeply, not to make him dark and broody, but to show another depth to him, but this was already done well so I may just be greedy.

The story Rose has written is real and feels natural to a point. Yes it is mostly about a college girl helping to write sex scenes for her roommate’s novels, sometimes by acting them out to a point for inspiration, but there is greater reality in the narrative as well with character emotions and the relationships feel natural and suit the characters well.

With a story like this you can’t ignore the romance and the desire but it isn’t the flowery romance, at least not initially and what comes later is less flowery, more passion, lust, and desire. With things like that Cleo has the advantage given that she writes erotic fanfiction and the scenes for her roommate but it doesn’t take over her life and she doesn’t speak or think like that. The focus on desire and sex may be ongoing to varying degrees but it fits well with the story and if you don’t mind a few sex scenes that are detailed but not too crass then it is easy to get caught up in the romance side and the connection and affection between Cleo and Adrian.

Overall I enjoyed the book. It was what I was expecting while not at the same time. With an interesting narrative concept it focuses on the characters with Rose using the plot well to highlight each of them, even if only momentarily. The characters have depth and are unique, bringing something of themselves into many moments making it light and humorous, while also grounding it and showing the complexities of relationships and the people involved. Adrian’s Lessons is a novel for those who want a touching story filled with adoration and the joys and complications of young love, but one that is also filled with the passion and desires that go with it.

Giveaway provided by the author! Thanks again for this! I love it! Review to come!!!

**************************************************************************

From the beginning, i totally get the mood of this book: hilarious, sexy, hot and some romantic moments who make me swoon!

This book is told from a dual POV : Cleo and Adrian.
I love this writing style when the characters put all their thoughts and interact with the readers.

Back the story : Cleo is a student who writes sexy scenes for her roomate, a promising erotica writer. Her friend writes the plot, settling, characters and Cleo is in charge of the sex scenes. But she's got no inspiration and a little pressured by the deadline.
Then comes, sexy, greek hot Adrian. Their "first meeting" is kind of memorable: he saw her topless, living his apartment !

After, they saw each other again and becomes his lab partner; this quote is priceless : « Care to examine my tongue? » ,very smooth!

Cleo seemed so tough outside but her past relationship kind of destructing her confidence when it comes to intimacy. Her private pep talk is so hilarious : "No, Cleo, you are stronger than free tacos and bedroom eyes,.." . She goes to Psychology Club, have no filther, but she's kind of shy when it comes to hot guys!! This girl rocks!!

Adrian don't hide and don't play games.
From this moment, nothing stops Adrian to chase her. Behind all this behavior, we understand how he couldn't stop to be around her: he's smitten for years!! (you have to read it because i don't want to spoil). They've met in high school but Cleo didn't remember him.
They both have some secrets in their sleeves!

I love their interactions and their sudden chemistry. Adrian is such an old soul hidden behind his good looks, friendly sociable personality. Seeing Cleo again after years is a sign to go for what he wants.
He uses every pretext to be with her and it was kind of sweet! Especially the parts where he helped Cleo to write some steamy, sensual, hot sex scenes; and guess what: this guy is very talented and gifted! But Cleo is protecting herself by trying to be friends with him! (it's not a joke guys!!)

I liked reading this book and this story was very entertainning. I laughed so many times that i lost count!! I want to warn you: don't read this book in a public place because Adrian can make you blush a lot!!!it's getting hot in here!
Adrian lessons definitely put you in a good mood! Just to answer Adrian last question at the end of the story :i say YES!!!!
I give 4.5 stars because i wanted more!!!( Adrian of course!! LOL)

I received this book for free from a publisher in exchange for an honest review.

How It Made Me Feel:
Oh. My. Gosh. I don't even know where to start. This book was something that kept me laughing from the beginning to the end and by the fifth chapter, I, myself, was in love with Adrian King. It's been a long time since I've been able to visit a story and characters that were real and honest and horribly dorky, like myself. I immediately connected with Cleo and felt as if I was here. I can't even begin to tell you how much of the book I spent uproarisouly laughing because of something she did, or more often, said. Being able to read a character with as much strength, wit, and humor was a relief, and quite honestly, a pleasure.

I loved the camaraderie between Cleo, Adrian, and Marie. Their witty repartee and honest reactions really helped bring the story together for me. It was a great contemporary romance with the right amount of sexual tension, a fabulously written plot, and laugh out loud funny. The steamy sex scenes were just enough to get your blood going without being over the top. Overall, just perfect.

What I Thought Worked:
I can't iterate how perfect the character of Cleo was to me. She was a great example of a human girl in college with some relationship issues. She has a sense of humor, she says stupid things, and has conversations with parts of her body through out the story. What a way to add a personal touch to the book. L.A. Rose did a fabulous job making Adrian Lessons a book that is seen as it's own.

What I Thought Didn't Work:
Honestly, there wasn't very much I didn't like. I was a big heartbroken to read the line where Adrian admitted that a fact of life was that Fords suck. Being a country girl, I live for Ford, but that was more of a personal issue, instead of one with her writing, book, or characters.

Why It Got That Rating:
This was a book that I connected deeply to. Parts of Cleo are so similar to myself that I was drawn to her thoughts and actions as if they were mine. I enjoyed reading how someone so similar could have such a different outcome in their life. I loved how L.A. Rose put her personal touch into the book, used humor, romance, and amxiety, and gave us a great story we could enjoy over and over.

Who Would I Recommend To:
I would recommend to anyone who is looking for a New Adult romance that isn't like the rest. This book throws caution to the wind and breaks out of the NA mold, landing with a brilliant splash of success.

Last Impressions/Remarks:
Reading this book has literally raised my spirits and I laughed more than I have in quite a long time. It was a wonderful read and I can't wait to share it.

Adrian Lesson's was a new adult book that felt fresh and different. I thought it was going to be a girl and popular playing guy dancing around each, leading to an inevitable romance. But there was a whole other element that took me completely by surprise. I loved the added depth from Adrian where Cleo was concerned. It made the story feel fresh and so endearing. But don't worry there is still the URST (unresolved sexual tension) and romance build up that I love in my new adult contemporaries.

Adrian is his college's "sex King". He has a column in the newspaper and he earns his reputation. Cleo is a quiet girl that just so happens to writer her newly signed roommate/author's sex scenes in her books. I think that would be a really fun collaboration by the way. But Cleo is out of inspiration, and in a writing funk. I loved not only Cleo and Adrian, but her roommate is a hoot and a half. I want her to get her own book! I loved how meddling she was with Cleo, and how she pushed Adrian to help her act out some of her scenes- kind of. She didn't make them so the dirty or anything like that, but she did get them pretty close to each other. It was pretty hot and a whole lot of fun. I thought it was a great method of driving the story forward.

But this was not just a fluff read. You really got to know Cleo and Adrian so well. Especially Adrian. The deeper he went in revealing his past, the more I liked him. It is hard not to like him. He seems so genuine and nice, and I thought Cleo gave him way too hard of a time. Even when she realized that he wasn't the shallow guy she thought he was, she sill didn't really let up on him. But Adrian was a gem through it all. They don't make a ton of guys like him. I really enjoyed Adrian Lessons. The writing is sexy, fun and the pacing of the story is great. It felt like a well thought out read, but I easily read it in one setting. I just didn't want to put the book down. I really enjoyed L.A. Rose's characters and romance so I am excited to read her other books. I have James Games sitting in my to be read pile right now, in fact. I think Adrian Lessons is a standalone read, but I am kind of hoping that Cleo's roommate gets her own companion book. If you like fun and steamy college romances, Adrian Lessons is a great book for you to check out.

I absolutely adore this book. I was taken by surprise by how much I ended up smiling and laughing while reading this wonderful story. This book made me realize this is all I ever wanted from a new adult book. I've been so disappointed in the new adult genre this year, so it takes a lot for me to be impressed. But I can now say I'm officially impressed by Adrian Lessons! At first, I stopped reading because the beginning didn’t intrigue me but up until recently, I started reading it again and I questioned why the hell I ever stopped reading this book? IT'S SO GOOD.

Anyways, I adore. Cleo. She's so quirky and funny. She reminded me of Isis, from the lovely vicious series), who I adore so much. I like that Cleo is portrayed as a realistic character. I saw her as someone who is confident, but deep down she still had insecurities to overcome. I think many young teenagers could relate to not feeling good about themselves because of the expectations of beauty. So I think the author portrayed that aspect very well because I found myself relating to Cleo a lot. Now moving onto Adrian, I just love him. I was a bit wary because it's said that he's a playboy. Playboys are a no-no in my book, but looking past that, Adrian is such a good guy. I like good guys and Adrian is a love interest that I want to see more in new adult books. He's respectful, caring, lovable, and undeniably sweet. He does have that alpha side but it’s not too much. I like that. I think the one quote he said that sucked me in was “I’m not one of those hypocritical assholes who thinks a woman shouldn’t have her own sex life even as I try to get with her.” This was the point where I said to myself that I like this guy. And I ended up appreciating him more when his past was revealed.

I love the relationship between Cleo and Adrian. I felt that there was a genuine connection between them. I adore how Adrian showed how much he wanted to be with Cleo. * SWOON * Also, I really like that Cleo prioritize her sister and roommate before him as well. It’s important to not let being with someone interfere with friendships and family. I love the banter between Cleo and Adrian. It’s so hilarious. Adrian says A LOT of corny lines, but I love corny so I just loved it. I just these two characters so much.

Overall, this book had just the perfect amount of steamy scenes and I’m glad it didn’t go too overboard. It had lots of humor. The storyline isn’t heavy with anything dark or depressing, it’s a light and fun read. This was the perfect book that got me out of my reading slump. :) I really can’t wait to read more from this author :)

Adrian Lessons is a funny, sexy New Adult read that took me on a roller coaster of emotions. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean I enjoyed the whole thing.

I came in with low expectations. I knew it was going to be a light and quick read and I was right. But I didn't know it was going to be super funny. It started so good. I was giggling uncontrollably at Cleo's failed attempts at writing erotic scenes for Marie's romance book. Looking back, the self-deprecating humor reminded me of Sophie Kinsella's stand-alone novels and I thought, this is going to be so good and I'll probably give this 5 stars. And for a while it was really good. Cleo was laugh-out-loud funny, Adrian's a smart, sexy Greek god and the sexual tension is palpable. For a while there, I had fun.

Then it became too much. I found Cleo's humor to be inappropriate sometimes. It felt like her default reaction to anything is to laugh or to make a joke out of things and it became annoying after a while. Plus, Adrian is not only smart and eloquent and sweet and sexy and handsome as hell -- he's also filthy rich! And he's been obsessed with Cleo since high school. It was so convenient that it felt too good to be true.

I should also point out that Cleo has a secret, which was pretty obvious since the early parts of the book. And oh, she has an annoying sister.

How about the sex, you ask? This book's all about a terribly long foreplay, literally and figuratively. Cleo and Adrian only had actual sex in the last parts of the book and by that time it already felt, at least for me, forced and more of a necessity, something to appease readers like me who got bored with all the foreplay. All the back and forth, especially from Cleo's end, affected the overall tempo of the book, from rushing to dragging to rushing and back again. It's exhausting.

And there's too much sex! Think Fifty Shades-frequency of sex, except this has more foreplay than actual sex. At least with Fifty Shades we know that Christian did it just for sex's sake but here, Adrian's lust for Cleo was disguised as love. Ugh.

Can you feel my frustration? I had high hopes for Adrian Lessons because the first few chapters were really good. It's a real shame that it wasn't able to sustain the momentum. But hey, if you're looking for something funny and sexy, this is it.

Title: Adrian Lessons
Author: L.A. Rose
Source: e-copy from author in exchange for an honest review
My Rating: 4 stars

Cleo is our main character in Adrian Lessons and she is a riot. As the blurb above says, she writes the sex scenes for her best friend's books but lately hasn't been feeling too inspired. Then Adrian King, a.k.a. the Sex King, comes in and sparks start flying off the page (er... Kindle screen). The attraction between them is instantaneous.

The whole story in Adrian Lessons was awesome. It's a light NA contemporary romance and the plot is fairly basic, but combined with the characters, this book is so, so good. Cleo and Adrian are stuck working together so there's no way she can avoid him, and as they spend more time together it becomes clear that their connection is more than just chemistry. Then there's the fact that they went to high school together, although Cleo doesn't remember that. I loved how the two had some sort of past (as vague as it is) and that Adrian actually had feelings for Cleo before they met up in college again. L.A. Rose created two very realistic characters who bypass all the stereotypes and are just themselves.

Cleo is fantastic and hilarious, always speaking her mind. Not in a rude way, more like she's so crazy and just shares her craziness with the whole world. She has her insecurities like everybody else does but nothing major and life-changing. Mainly I just loved her because she had me laughing my head off while reading this book but she's also loyal and caring.

Then there's Adrian. *sigh*. I am crushing on this guy so hard right now! Beside all the stuff about him being unbelievably hot (which he definitely is), Adrian is also super sweet. He cares about Cleo a lot and always puts her first. He is arrogant at times but only in a teasing way and never, ever crosses the line into asshole territory. Adrian is pretty much the perfect combination of alpha male guy and caring boyfriend!

All in all, the characters in Adrian Lessons are definitely loveable and I would really recommend reading this book. It's not too long or heavy and I guarantee that the dialogue will make your day better :)
