Cindy finally thought that she knew everything she needed to about Jeremiah’s past. She was wrong. Now the rabbi is being called back to Israel to once again protect his country from a terrible threat. This time he is not alone. Cindy goes with him. As she sees the true nature of the man she loves and faces her own deepest fears she comes to realize one important truth. Even if they both survive. Nothing will ever be the same.

I really liked this installment in The Psalm 23 Mysteries! So much excitement and so much danger.
Cindy and Jeremiah are still dancing around their relationship with each other. Of course it would be difficult to solidify since he is a rabbi and Cindy is a protestant. Jeremiah's past is finally going to catch up with him in this book.
The Mossad calls Jeremiah back into service and he must go back to Israel. Cindy refuses to allow him to go without her though. Too many times when they have been separated things go bad and Cindy has a dread that if she is not with him something bad will happen.
Of course bad things happen from the minute they get on the plane! Jeremiah and Cindy once again put on the charade of being married in order to have a good cover of why they are in the country.
Meanwhile back in the States Mark and Traci are having some excitement of their own. Mark is still trying to find out the truth of who his former partner is along with solving a murder of a homeless man on Jeremiah's front lawn. It seems that Mark and Traci and Cindy and Jeremiah are destined to always be in the midst of murder. Mark is hoping for some peace before his and Traci's baby is born, but that is not the case in this situation.
Once Jeremiah and Cindy are in Israel and undercover Jeremiah must reveal who he really is to Cindy. He just knows that the love and admiration he sees in Cindy's eyes will never be the same once she knows the truth and sees him in action. Cindy is made of sterner stuff than that though and she helps Jeremiah every step of the way on this dangerous and revealing trip that threatens both of their lives and the future of their relationship.
I devoured this book so quickly! Action scene after action scene kept me in the mode of "Just one more chapter" before I could move on to my responsibilities. I am much relieved to finally have the truth of who Jeremiah was/is revealed. There are definitely going to be hurdles in their future relationship, but at least the blinders are now off of Cindy and she doesn't have to wonder. I'm definitely in stress-mode now wondering if Jeremiah is going to be able to go back to his "normal" life after delving so deeply into his past nightmares. Looking forward to reading the next installment of the series. Soon, very soon!
This book is number 9 in the psalm 23 mysteries series by Debbie Viguie. I was a little late starting this series, but managed to read the first 5 in under 5 days. This is an amazing series which has you hooked from page one of the first book. Debbie has an amazing talented of keeping us readers on the edge of our seats throughout the whole book, keeping our heart racing while wanting more as at the end you are desperately wanting the next book in the series.
DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK!!!! SPOILER ALERT
What can I say about this book in the series, WOW it was breathe taking, I was sat on the edge of my seat the entire time. Well firstly Jeremiah (how we love him), we have all known has a past and it has taken us until 7 books to find out. Well this book give us a deeper insight to Jeremiah's past, really looking forward to the next book and he deals with the events from this story. I must say I have enjoyed having information regarding Jeremiah's past slowly leaking out throughout the first 7 books. He became this mysterious, dangerous character who you could not get enough of. BEST THING GUYS: WE FIND OUT HIS REAL NAME!! We also meet his family and yes once again the secret married couple role is played again between our two most loved characters
Cindy, our favourite female lead. She has had a lot of character development throughout this series. She has know become a strong woman who has started to fight back especially with issues she truly believes in, I do idolise her for facing her deepest fears and all the dead bodies she "stumbles" across - literally! I can not wait to see where we story goes next. She is a lovely character who needs her happily ever after like Traci and Geanie -she deserves it alot more. But go Cindy she has finally bit the bullet and realised her feelings for Jeremiah.
I also love how Debbie has taken us back to book 2, solving the mystery we all wanted to know more about. Everyone remember the homeless guy who Jeremiah found dead on his lawn?? AKA Captain's owner? well yes that is one mystery that was not really solved - this book takes us back to that story.
Around 74% through the book I suffer lots of emotional distress: JEREMIAH WAS SHOT, yes you heard me right in the chest!! Do not stress folks all is ok!!!
I need to also discuss the relationship between our two favourite characters, it has been slowly building since book 1 but finally we can say it is about time! another reason I want book 10 now! I will say I have thoroughly loved the development of this relationship, making it feel more real as a lot of books (usually YA) relationships occur too quickly.
(BIG NEWS: Traci and Mark have twins :D yay!! was so happy.)
This book was amazing, this series just gets better and better. This book was: action packed, fast paced, breathe taking, emotional and heart warming If you ever need a good mystery this is the series for you. It is also very educational, going into this series I had very limited knowledge on jewish religion however I now have a better understand thanks to Mrs Debbie Viguie.
Debbie Viguie is my favourite author, I read and love any material she writes. I love her style of writing, the emotional attachments I get to these characters and how I get a sense of excitement, heart racing and suspense each time I read one of her books. ALWAYS, I can never put her books down!
Few recommendations Debbie: These books need to be longer, we need them to keep coming as fast as you can AND we need a lot more than 12!!!
Jeremiah and Cindy have gone Israel to prevent WWIII and Jeremiah is afraid that Cindy will hate him when she learns what he was. So full of suspense, action and romance, it was wonderful. Could not put it down once I started it. Can't wait for the next book. This is definitely a must read. Best so far in this series, great job.
Wow! This book was so good. It was filled with suspense the whole way through. At one point I was shouting "NO It can't be" and then later on shouting "Yes", and then "It's about time". After reading the first 8 books in this series, I feel connected with in the main characters. I am happy with the way the story went in this book and look forward to the next. So glad the author has continued this series on. Now the wait for the next...
Great story! There was a lot of action! There was so much growth in Cindy. She is not the little naive suburban girl anymore. She will need this maturity to deal with Jeremiah. So glad a lot of questions were answered in this book. I am looking forward to the next installment.
So many lingering questions in this series were answered in this action-packed volume - who Jeremiah is, what his exact role was, his family situation, and even his real name.
This was perhaps the most violent book in the series yet, some of it unnecessary. Some of the use of violence was only considered in a pragmatic light. "The end justifies the means" sort of logic. There was no consideration of whether the quality of the means was worthwhile or whether it was what God would have wanted.
There was, indeed, the murder of an unarmed, defenseless person in addition to the many armed battles.
Considering his line of work, I doubt that Jeremiah's last arrangement would have been chosen or worked.
This was the first book where the differences in Jeremiah's and Cindy's faith was taken seriously and with any depth. But it was never asked of God whether they should continue their relationship, but asked as, since they continue their relationship, how should they approach it?
In other words, they were unwilling to discontinue the relationship if God had said, 'no.' Their only considerations in discontinuing the relationship were based on 1) safety, and 2) what the other person wanted. The fact that they didn't even ask God makes it feel like idolatry to me, that they were placing the other person above God.
Speaking of safety, though, it felt unrealistic to me that Jeremiah would've brought Cindy along, even after the threat that she made. He should have said, "If you hope for my survival, you will not come."
It was chilling to me that after all that necessity for secrecy, Mark ended up telling a family member of a deceased person about the important role a death had played. I wondered if he had been endangering others in the telling, although I do understand the desire to give peace and closure.
I am glad to know "the rest of the story," but there are a lot of dark elements in this one.
Almost all the other reviewers had more positive reviews than mine, and for all of them, the reason they gave was the excitement. But I want a story that means something and that has more depth than just excitement. This book delivered more on that score than most of the rest of the series, and normally, that would raise it to a 4-stars for me. (A 5-star book is one I'd reread, which almost never happens with a mystery once I know whodunit.) However, I felt I had to deduct a point for the pragmatic and gratuitous violence, and for its darker themes.
The sole reviewer who spoke negatively about the book did so because it was "preachy." I think I have a different definition of preachy. Jeremiah and Cindy merely explained their points of view, and did it well, without pushing their ideas or maintaining that everyone should do or feel likewise. To me, that's not being preachy, that's explaining a position or baring their hearts, so to speak. They didn't even agree with each other and they were OK with that.
But then, I don't mind books being truly preachy, if they are challenging me towards the best. I just don't feel like this book fits in that category.
This author is able to make me gasp, hold my breath, yell into the room, and cry from page and chapter to next page and chapter. Even the ending keeps the taut dialog alive until the last sentence of the novel.
This series is for persons liking action packed novels. We have a Rabbi (or is he?) and the next door protestant secretary who first stumbles over a dead body...that was in book one. This novel is book nine and I'm hoping it continues into the forties or more.
Rabbi Silverman, and Cindy are two crime fighters. One is trained and the other is learning in the field from being accidentally thrown in the deep end of a middle eastern conflict, some would refer to as a war. Both are true believers of their individual faiths. The attraction is strong between them but the fact that there seems to be a constant flow of dead bodies puts their lives in jeopardy.
Living in California should be an oasis from crime as deadly as the CIA etc. deals in, should be...rhe Rabbi is torn from his retirement and Cindy refuses to stay behind. We are suddenly in Iran, then Israel, then...well, I'm still suffering from jet lag so I suggest you, as an interested reader, should find out for yourself.
All I can tell you is that I'm still hearing the words penned by Ms. Viguie. They stay with you even at 3 a.m.
Jeremiahs worst fear has come true: his past is calling him back, and he doubts that they'll let him come back. Instead of having a tearful good bye however, Cindy refuses to let him out of her and instead joins him in Israel, saving his life in the process. While there they discover a plot to blow up one of the most sacred spots in Jerusalem, the Dome of the Rock. And when the terrorist plot seems to be linked to a cold case Mark has been investigating for 2 years, everything seems to become a whole lot more dangerous. The only way Jeremiah can keep Cindy with him and safe is tell everyone she's his wife, but his feelings for her may make everything more complicated. Can he survive this blast from his past, and keep his feelings for Cindy in check? This was one of the more exciting books, and once again was nice to find a lot more out about Jeremiah. There was one section, which I won't say to avoid spoilers, that was a bit unbelievable but it might just have been the romantic in me that was wishing it.
I have really enjoyed this series!! This one is darker and more violent than previous installments, and at one point my heart totally stopped, but that's what happens when Jerimah and Cindy get involved in...anything together. I can only say I would want them on my side of any dangerous situation. Can't wait to read the next one.
Another chapter in Cindy and Jeremiahs story. This one lets Cindy see into his past and him to see how much she cares for him. Throw in the CIA and a few terrorists and it makes for an exciting story.
I've missed reading this series. This book was something else. To see into Jeremiah's past was intense to say the least. It was fun to watch Cindy grow stronger as a person.
I'm half surprised I survived reading this latest installment of the Psalm 23 series. The angst, the fast paced action, the rapidly changing tide of foe vs. Friend was incredible. Did I say tears? I was hooked from the first sentence!
Jeremiah is being recalled as a former Mossad agent, a side of him he has always kept hidden from Cindy, afraid of her rejection. "In fact, his whole carefully constructed house of cards was threatening to fall down around him." What will happen to their relationship as Cindy begins to see Jeremiah for who he really is?
And I love the phrase Debbie uses :"plausible deniability" in referring to Detective Mark Walters. The ironic meaning of the phrase? "What he didn't know couldn't hurt any of them."
An incredible race to stop WW III from beginning as we see whether or not Cindy and Jeremiah may have a future together. Hurry October and book 10!!
Finally Cindy learns Jeremiah's real name, and learns first hand what he had been trying to hide from her... and everyone else... for so long. Only she is not running away like he thought she would. She handles so many things far better than she herself thought possible. I liked so much about this book, but this is the first in the series that I thought required a bit more suspension of disbelief. And there were statements made that I thought Cindy never would have said. However, I still enjoyed this book.
Merged review:
I thought I had reviewed this book already. I felt like some of the scenes didn't keep with the characters I had learned to love in this series, but overall I enjoyed the book.
Cindy is a church secretary secretly in love with the rabbi at the synagogue next door. They have been thrown in each other’s company while investigating murders. This is the ninth book in the series, so they have been throwing longing glances at each other for a while. But Jeremiah, the rabbi, has a secret—he was formerly in the Mossad. He is called back to Israel, and Cindy insists on going along to help. There’s a lot of suspension of disbelief going on here, and the tone is preachier than in previous books.I wouldn’t recommend this as a gentle Christian mystery for those reader who like the Amish series, as it has some violent scenes, but the characters have enough depth to keep them interesting.
She's done it again! I was on the edge of my seat! I had to keep telling myself that of corse Cindy and Jeremiah would be fine as the series isn't over.
This installment takes them to Jerusalem to stop a terrorist plot. Back at home Mark and Traci have an unexpected event they have to work through. There is never a dull moment with these people!
This book is by far the very best, most joyful, scary. The descriptions of the land, people, and action were, at times, overwhelming, but amazing. The box of tissues was never far away. This is by far the best book of the series, so far. I applaud Mrs. Viguie 's research and her ability to put it call into a real ""pageturner"" . Thank you!
I am loving this series, but it is not the usual cozy mystery. Each book has gotten a little more dark and intense. This one ramps up the action and the body count as well. The different cultures brought out are interesting and add a nice element.
This one is a bit of a departure from the previous books in the series. It's getting more intense. They travel to Israel and Iran. Cindy learns much more about Jeremiah's past role in the Mossad. Big changes afoot in their relationship.
I thought this would just be a pleasant little feel good read and it was but it sucked me in almost like it was a mystery, even though there really wasn't a mystery to speak of.
