But soon the Seaworths face a bigger A deadly enemy has been unleashed, and it’s unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. As Linney and Gray work together to stop it, the attraction brewing between them just might be the most powerful magic of all.

Story 4 stars. Narration 5 stars
This was a sort of spinoff of the previous series, Starfall Point, by this author. They both take place on a touristy island in the middle of Lake Huron. They involve two separate witch covens, probably only due to lack of proximity as this latest coven are just three sisters that live off the grid on the other side of the island. They rarely go to town. Their magic mainly concerns water magic as they are descended from water fae from Scotland that they no longer have ties to. Their side of the island is full of ghosts-mostly of the friendly sort but of course not all.

Main character Lennie meets a man(Gray)on one of her sneak visits to town. It was a bit of a meet cute of the ghostly sort. They pretty much fall into extreme like. Gray just inherited his grandfather’s ghost tour business and is trying to make a go of it. Meanwhile the ghost energy of the bad sort in her part of the island has ramped up. Strangers are trying to come to their part of the island too. Monster ghosts are hanging out causing all sorts of problems. I’m going to stop there.

As with all the books in these two series, they are cute reads and what I consider rom-coms. Molly Harper is the best paranormal rom-com author out there as far as I’m concerned. I’ve read more than my share and have always liked them. Narrators Amanda Ronconi and Teddy Hamilton were perfect for this audio. They are favorites of mine so I really enjoyed the listen. Recommended!

4.5 ⭐️, Molly Harper perfectly captures the coziness of northern lower Michigan again, moving around the island over to Moonshadow Cove. This was such a fun listen, and the narration by Amanda Ronconi and Teddy Hamilton was spot on. At 2.5x speed, I burned through this book so quickly as I ate up all the new world-building in what is sure to be another new favorite series. While I’ve read the first two Starfall Point books (waiting for 3 to come out this year in print!), I think readers who haven’t would be able to jump into this easily without spoiling themselves too much if they go back to the very beginning after. I appreciated the fast pace of the plot while it also balanced downloading a significant amount of new information that will be important in future installments. The Seaworth sisters are each so clearly defined, I can’t wait to see who features next. Thanks to Molly Harper for the gifted copy!

Solid start to the starfall continuation series but I felt the characters didn't have as much depth as I'm used to, even in Molly's silly little paranormal novellas.

I am an unabashed fan of anything Molly Harper publishes. Her books are instant mood lifters for me. I frequently call Ms. Harper and her audiobook narrator, Amanda Ronconi, as one of the best partnerships you will find. There isn't a story Ms. Harper released that I haven't read or listened to. So, when she announced the release of the first book in a new series, THE WRONG WITCH TO HEX WITH, I had it on my wish list within minutes, downloaded it the day it became available, and managed to wait three entire days before starting it.

To say that I have high expectations for Ms. Harper is an understatement. I recognize and acknowledge this and know that in the case of THE WRONG WITCH TO HEX WITH, those expectations may be a little too high. There is nothing wrong with this latest story. It takes place on Starfall Point, the charming and esoteric little Michigan island in Lake Huron. There is the usual banter alongside sexual tension that exists in all her novels, and her main characters are full of the little quirks and foibles that make her characters so much fun.

My problem is that THE WRONG WITCH TO HEX WITH feels more like an info dump than a fully fleshed story. Ms. Harper hasn't really written about Fin Folk before, and she spends a lot of time explaining their family dynamics, the Seaworth family history, and their magic. Plus, she has to establish the Big Bad and the main conflict that will obtain resolution in the third book. It's a lot, and the story suffers.

Thankfully, the sheer awkwardness of her characters makes up for the lack of an extensive plot because awkwardness means perfectly normal and endearing. Ms. Harper excels at capturing what it is like to be an adult, pretending to be more mature and more composed than you are, constantly hiding the fact that you have no idea what you are doing or how you got to this point. I started reading Ms. Harper because of her vampire series. I continue to read Ms. Harper because she understands and portrays the absurdity of adulthood through her characters, some of whom happen to be witches.

While THE WRONG WITCH TO HEX WITH is not Ms. Harper's best novel, even what I consider to be a fairly mediocre book by Ms. Harper is still a good time. Gray is hilarious as he stumbles his way through accepting the existence of ghosts and witches. Linney is endearing in her naivete and desire to get her sisters to treat her like the adult she is. Plus, now that we know the Seaworth back story and what the sisters are trying to prevent, the next two novels in the series should have plenty more action and adventure. And I'll be there, eagerly waiting to devour those novels as they become available.

A fun new spinoff of Starfall Point witches. I do like the concept of sea witches and could have been a more fun and complex idea steeped in more folklore than was given for plot but this isn’t the genre of book for that. Also love interest was meh and was a carbon copy of the love interests in the first trilogy but worked well enough.
Also felt like we needed more on all three of the sisters even though this was just in Linney’s POV besides the opening and ending chapter. I imagine the next books will cover that but still we need more like Charmed with the sisterly bond being shown while navigating family hardship and ghosts.
Will be continuing on since I do enjoy having a fast and light listen in between more intense and longer listens and to be honest it definitely helps it’s free to listen for audible members since I don’t think I would use an actual credit for this.

I’ve always wanted to read one of those clichéd romantasy novels you see on sale for £3 in the “beach reads” section at The Works with covers that look like they were generated by AI and titles like “A vampire’s guide to dating” and “Love at the full moon” - and finally I have. To be honest, there was really very little that surprised me - it’s kinda exactly what you would expect from a book fulfilling all of the above criteria. I can’t really say I’m disappointed, but I was rather hoping to uncover a world of irresistible intrigue so that I, too, might one day feel able to learn the secrets of Colleen Hoover. Perhaps I’ll keep looking…

Predictable but cute! Not a huge fan of insta love. It was free with my audible subscription so I wasn’t expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. Pretty excited for book 2 tho because I know that Perry and James are gonna be perfect enemies to lovers and I can’t wait!

I’ll admit I liked the Starfall point books more, but this has me intrigued enough! Just felt more rushed compared to the first series. I loved that Mina played a role though!

Linney and her sisters are fin-folk and sea witches. Their family has lived in the secret Moonshadow Cove for years, protecting the human population from the ghosts which inhabit their island. Linney is tired of living in isolation and forms a friendship with (and attraction to) local ghost tour guide, Gray. Gray is trying to revive his grandfather’s tour business, much to the disappointment of his family.

Overall, The Wrong Witch to Hex With is a great start to a series from Harper. The book introduces a new coven and adventure located in a familiar setting. The series is tied to the Starfall Point series, set in the same location and picking up a few years after the conclusion of that trilogy. I liked how the author used Mira to bridge the two series. Newcomers to the world won’t be confused, but will miss out on some of the connecting ties.

With this being the first book in the series, a lot of information is thrown at the listener in order to establish the new characters, setting, and additional magical rules. At times, like the climatic villain monologue, the info dump went on too long. But generally, the story has a good balance of world building and story. I enjoyed the new aspects of magic and paranormal as the author expands her world; however, I was put off by the fact that ghosts are able to easily (and often) hurt humans. I feel like that would have been happening more (or at least mentioned) in the first series.

I liked the sweet romance - it’s a bit quick, but the author implies a bit of a fated match situation. Plus, it’s an HFN, which is very fitting. Linney and Gray both need time and space to figure out how to be themselves, so I’m glad it didn’t end with them living together or all “I LOVE YOU.”

Narration: Other than the prologue and epilogue, the story is shared via the alternating third person POVs of Linney and Gray. Hamilton voices Gray’s POVs. His voice is pleasantly deep and fitting. He adjusts for gender. Ronconi brings her usual, upbeat enthusiasm to the role of Linney. She also adjusts appropriately for gender, accent, and age. Both narrators don’t make a huge distinction between characters of the same gender, but their performances are entertaining.

Discovering why there is an unease in the land and cove is part detective work and part emotional journey as the three sisters need to face their past and the secrets. I like how it all ties together, and look forward to more stories in the series.

My Ratings:
Story: B
Narration: B+

Molly Harper does it again!

I absolutely loved The Wrong Witch to Hex With! I was so sad when the Starfall Point series “ended,” and didn’t want to say goodbye to those characters. The Wrong Witch to Hex With moves to the other side of the Starfall Point island, and introduces us to the heretofore unknown Moonshadow Cove area. The three sisters continue the legacy of magic on Starfall Point, but in a refreshing and revamped way. However, Harper seamlessly intertwines the Moonshadow Cove sea witches with the previously known and loved Shadow House Coven. We get to continue to learn and grow with the Shadow House Coven (although, with some of the lesser known characters, which is amazing - HELLO SASSY MINA!), but without exhausting that storyline, and introducing us to new magics, ghosties, and more.

As a Michigan native, this book felt the most comfortable. Molly Harper seemed to capture the “Michigan-ness” of our state beautifully, more so than she has done in any other Michigan-based installment. It felt like shrugging on one’s most comfortable sweater. Maybe that familiarity or the way I could truly envision our state, even in this fictionalized version of it, leant to my enjoyment. However, I feel as though anyone who reads this book would instantly feel the Michigan spirit (hehe pun intended).

I consumed this book in under 12 hours. Currently, it is only out in audiobook, and the narrator, Amanda Ronconi, is brilliant. Ronconi is Harper’s long-time narrator and she is amazing, as always. Her “meow” for Nicodemus was hysterical. When you listen, you’ll know. TEDDY HAMILTON ALSO NARRATES THIS BOOK. The book girlies will understand this. No words needed.

Overall, if you liked the Starfall Point trilogy, if you like witches, the sea, Michigan, fantasy - you’ll love this book :)

Unnecessarily complicated backstory. The whole Water Witches are not mermaids explanation was just 🙄. This worldbuilding was just not developed well. It was unbelievable and took me out of the story. Not what I expect from this author at all.

In addition, these "water witches" know hardly anything about the real word but are literally a 10 minute walk away... 🙄 They know real-world lingo and pop culture but don't have the internet or cell phones.

Last but not least, the Bad guy gives a literally 10-minute speech about nothing at the end of the book. Seriously, even the characters say, "... and he is still talking. " So maybe that was supposed to be a joke, but the reader/listener actually has to sit through his speech about nothing.

When you find out the real reason behind the drama and final conflict of this book, it's ridiculous. Oh, oh, oh... let me not forget to mention that these were the weakest witches in all of Harper's books.

Basically, this was boring and too unbelievable to allow you to fall into the fantasy of the story.

The narrator, Amanda Ronconi, was the only gem of this book.

I did enjoy being in starfall again but the writing didn’t seem as polished as usual like, it all happens in a short period of time and you’re given lots of exposition and information like “hey I had a fight with my sisters so I’m at your house now” “ok let me tell you all about my childhood to explain my character” and the sea witch magic and what the fin folk are was a little confusing to me and the bad guy went on for ages and giving context about why he was the bad guy and his whole backstory

But i appreciated some of the humour and starfall cameos

This was a very pleasant journey to a magical small town and its residents.
We travel to Starfall Point, a small town full of ghosts and where magic is alive (even if hidden).
Linney is a witch, part of the Moonshadow Cove, who with the help of her sisters helps to control dangerous ghosts by capturing them and locking them in the Cove.
She and her sisters avoid the outsiders and leave a more secluded life. But Linney is curious and a little bit of a rebel and in secret goes to Starfall Point and mingles with the people there.
On one excursion she meets Gray, a human man who is trying to get is grandfather's business (a ghost tour on the island) even when he never believed in ghosts.
When she is entangled on one of his tours they are drawn to each other. And while gettinv to know each other, some secrets and dangerous perils are experienced by both and but conquering them they learn about their legacies, their families and themselves.
Both main characters are extremely likeable and relatable and we can get easily lost in this story. The side characters give such a major and essencial boost to the story, mainly Mina! Its cozy, funny and inviting.

I really enjoyed this book especially because I enjoyed the other books I’ve listened on audible of this small island town in Michigan. I’m not sure if this is considered a part of that series or that this is a spin off series but either way I really enjoyed it. It might not of been as good if I just read it but having Teddy Hamilton do the male voice was perfection 👌

I loved the other books of Shadow house and the witch who inherited it. This series is set on the same island but about 3 sisters who live on a hidden cove that no one can see or get to but them. These sisters aren’t normal witches their father was a sea witch and their mother a human sadly both died when they were younger, leaving the elder sister who was only 13 to raise them.

The sisters now are in their 30’s and hardly ever venture out of their cove, until some strange things start happening. There’s a love story, new friendships, action & murder. They found out why their pod of sea witches left hundreds of years ago (and there’s a rival pod out to get revenge)

These sisters are not Mermaids but kinda like sirens yet they also try to control the ghost population 😆

The book was really interesting and I can’t wait for the next one in the fall to see what happens next!

Obviously another sister will fall in love, my money is on her elder sister and James but we will see

This was such a fun & quirky paranormal audible original adventure romance!!! It was a fast listen and you can’t help but love Gray’s totally nerdy vibe paired with the socially awkward sea witch Linney 🫶🏼

All of the minor characters totally stood out and were so unique 🥰 if you’re looking for a nice, cozy adventure with ghosts, sea creatures & witches that includes a slow burn ending with a lovely little spicy scene described by Teddy Hamilton ( 🥵 ) than this is for you!

This was a fun start to a new series by the author. This series takes place in the same Michigan island as her last series (the Starfall Point series). This time, we have as our main characters three sea witch sisters, who live a very isolated life in Moonshadow Cove, where they have a lot of secrets.

In this first book the heroine is the youngest sister, Linney, who periodically escapes to the town. On her first escape in the book, she encounters Gray, the owner of a ghost tour company on the island. It took me a bit of time to warm to the sisters, but once I did, I was completely caught up in the story. I liked that Gray's assistant for the summer is Mena, a young witch from the first series.

I look forward to the next book in the series, and am curious to see which sister is featured in it.

The Wrong Witch to Hex was an absolutely charming magical tale that gave me all the cozy, coastal vibes I didn’t know I needed. Linney and her sisters have grown up under a cloud of secrets, with quiet threats just beneath the surface of the ocean cove they’re destined to protect — and when those secrets start to bubble up, things get witchy.

This was such a fun, low-stakes read that worked perfectly as a palate cleanser. Molly Harper blends lighthearted humor, sweet sisterly dynamics, and just the right touch of magic into a story that doesn’t take itself too seriously — in the best way. If you’re looking for a witchy escape without the emotional rollercoaster, Linney’s story is the perfect breezy pick. 🧙‍♀️🌊💫

This author and this series (spinoff series) are always an enjoyable read. I will say this one is spicier 🌶️ than the original series which was unexpected. The reader follows a new set of witches from Moonshadow cove as they delve into their maturing dynamics as sisters and a lonely coven. They discover themselves as witches and young women as they unravel the mysteries of their magic and the cove they have called home all their lives. It’s a wonderful mix of magic, romance, and action with a connection to the original series. Always a good time.
