Rorik Klaus has spent most of his life in isolation. He’s resigned himself to his solitary existence until one fateful evening when he decides to offer a mysterious shifter a ride into the city. Instantly, Rorik senses their connection and he can’t help but wonder about the fire he sees reflected in the phoenix shifter’s gaze.
Kade Demonte is an Omega with a secret. Forced to leave the only life he’s ever known, Kade sets out for the Blood Moon Kingdom in search of a new life. What he doesn’t expect to find is Rorik Klaus–the man who single handedly turns his world upside down.
When a night of pleasure ends in pregnancy, Kade and Rorik must learn to deal with the consequences of their actions, but that soon becomes the least of their problems as outside forces threaten to end not only their relationship but their lives. After playing with fire, will the two of them get burned?
Jana Downs lives in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina with three cats, one dog, several dozen fish, and a very understanding partner-in-crime who hates to read but makes exceptions for her stories.
You can usually find her either watching bad reality TV, buying way too many books on Amazon, or dreaming up another man or two to occupy her time because life is good but several drop-dead gorgeous nonexistent men is just better.
I'm not sure how I really like this or not. I found the relationship between these two to jump and move too fast without them actually reconciling how they feel.
Then near the very end, we get a (much needed) recap on the vamp brothers relationship. Since I'm vague on the previous book read FIVE months ago, this kind of reminded me that Rorik was kind of the bad guy, sort of, in the first one. And NOW I'm supposed to get behind him and root for his mating? If I'd read these two back to back I would certainly feel MUCH more strongly about it but I can say that the impression I get is more on the lacking side.
Rorik's previous activities aside... I didn't feel like their mating was developed enough. I also would have liked to see more exploration of Kade and his omega abilities. At one time at the beginning it is mentioned that crying makes diamonds that could fuze to the carpet but that was never brought up again although Kade was seen to be crying a few times later. And although we get a glimpse (one time!) of Kade in phoenix form, later on for some reason I get the impression that he is a wolf shifter. Have no clue WHY I got that impression though. Certainly, I would have expected more actual shifting forms than just the once at the beginning.
I am a complete sucker for a good MPreg. This one didn’t disappoint other than I wish there had been more pregnancy issues such as cravings, etc. They always add kind of a comedy aspect that I love.
I thought the storyline was unique. It is interesting to read about shifters that you don’t normally find in books. I also liked the fact that Kade was so close to his brothers. When you start reading, you really feel for him because you know he was close to his family and leaving them hurt. He found another family in Rorik. I really like Rorik and his brother (from the previous book).
I am just wandering who will show up in the next book of the series. Will there be a next book? I hope so. I could see other characters deserving a story of their own.
