Katarina Lebedev is a cybersecurity prodigy trying to keep her tech company squeaky-clean despite her father being the notorious Russian mobster Igor Lebedev. When her father’s feud with the Ivanov family explodes, Erik Ivanov kidnaps her as leverage.
What starts as a high-stakes hostage situation quickly becomes something else. By the midway point, the dynamic moves from captor/captive to something much more complicated. Erik starts protecting her, confiding in her, and breaking all his own rules for her. But when Igor kidnaps Natasha Blackwood—Dmitri’s girlfriend—the Ivanovs are forced to arrange a hostage exchange: Katarina for Natasha. Erik is ordered to prepare Katarina to go home, even though he’s already half in love with her.
The exchange at the warehouse is absolute chaos. Igor betrays the terms, gunfire erupts, and Katarina is forced into a getaway car. Erik believes she’s safely back with her father, but both of them are wrecked by the separation. Back home, Katarina finds out that her father wants her to marry Anton and close her business.
Erik, meanwhile, is breaking orders left and right trying to figure out a way to get her back without igniting a full-scale war and he rescues her after she decides that she trusts him and wants to leave with him.
Erik proposes telling her he wants her for her, not for strategy and Katarina says yes, not because it ends the war, but because she’d marry him even if it started ten more. They choose each other, fully aware of what that means and in the end Igor gives them his blessing.
