Sin Eater: An Arcadia Sinners Novel

Rate this book
"If I kill one murderer, the number of murderers stays the same. If I kill more than one, it lowers."

Life should be better on the city island of New Arcadia, but the underworld is very much alive and ruled by self-interest and sin.

Roselin, an eager art student, feels lost and alone when she meets the hardened crime boss Ryu, who uses his Mageía powers to benefit his needs. With every kill he makes, he gains more control over the shadows of the city, literally and figuratively.

Although their morals clash, Roselin can't help falling for him — captivated by his shadows, while Ryu is mesmerised by Roselin and her art. But with secrets surrounding them and an enemy out for revenge, they need to find common ground to survive together.

Sin Eater is part of Arcadia Sinners, a dark and steamy romance series with fantasy sprinkled in.

Thank you so much to Talle Fey for giving me the opportunity to be part of her ARC readers 🖤

Overall I’ve very much enjoyed Ryu and Rose’s story 🥀 It was well written, fast paced and action packed. No yearning or slow burn here, we get right into the nitty gritty of the whole situation and even though it took a minute for my brain to adjust to this different pace, I found it refreshing.
I love how raw and direct all of it was, the way she writes her characters, flawed and traumatized, looking for something to hold on to in there painful lives.

I want to address something that definitely crossed my mind and that I’ve seen repeatedly mentioned in other reviews : the feelings that it has great potential but is lacking.
Would I have wanted a bit more buildup and development in the relationship between Ryu and Rose, more background about them, and Arcadia, and the magic system, more drawn out moments of the stories, and even more in terms of spice, etc.?
Sure, I would have LOVED that, because I genuinely enjoyed these characters and the story.

HOWEVER, at the end of the day this a very short story, under 250 pages if memory serves, and so it would be unfair of me to expect from it to give me as much detail as my usual dark fantasy romances that are at least twice as long if not more.
For how short this book was I think we got a genuinely well rounded story (though I am a little heartbroken by how abrupt the ending was, as I would have really liked for a little bit more joy after all the heartache).

Ultimately what this tells me is, as everyone else has pointed out, that there is indeed so much potential there for the future! And I know that if Talle Fey ever decides to write longer books, we will get beautiful stories, full of raw and complex characters, with intricate magic systems and world building (and some really fun spice).
And that makes me excited for any future stories she will publish 🖤

I signed up to Talle's E-ARC request for this copy as the story sounded like my kind of thing. 3 stars is a round up. Honest review incoming:

The concept is great - there's a sprinkle of magic, a morally questionable shadow wielder, questions of ethics and a bit of romance.
Unfortunately, although the world is interesting we only get fragments of it - it's a utopian city with areas inspired by different countries from our world (of which we have two mentioned) but why? And where is it? How? When?
The folks with magic - How? Why?

As for our MCs: besides being a student artist I didn't really learn anything about the FMC as a character. Nor the MMC except the fact he wields shadows and the whole mafia thing - which is the blurb description of him. They have personality the depth of a thimble between them, and their relationship is no better.

I can't tell who the intended audience is, the style is very simple which leads me to think YA but then there is frequent sex scenes which would suggest higher? Is it a romance? If that's the case some more development between them would have been nice. If it's meant as a sexy smut novel where the plot is secondary then I would have liked more from those scenes, too.

The story also ended incredibly abruptly.

TLDR; The pacing is weird and the characters, world and relationships are underdeveloped. A huge shame but not a total dumpster fire and would love to see more of it if we are given the chance.

My first dark romance in a contemporary-ish world and I really enjoyed it! Lots of chemistry between the two MCs and I love that Rose is an art student!

Thank you so much to the author for a free ARC!

Sin Eater is a fast-paced, action-packed dark romance that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Rose and Ryu are alluring characters that I got addicted to instantly, especially Ryu’s mysterious charm.

It was a perfect introduction to the Arcadia world and I can’t wait for the next titles! (I also can’t tell you how much I squealed when I saw the shorter chapters).

The character motivations were a little under-explained and left until the very end, which did get a little confusing and annoying at times, but other than that it was a great read!

I was lucky to be given the chance to review Sin Eater of my own accord through being offered an eARC.

I enjoyed Sin Eater, reading about Roselin and Ryu and the world they live in.
Roselin and Ryu’s relationship dynamic is interesting, and oftentimes dysfunctional and unhealthy. Their morals are at odds and it would be great to see more relationship development between them, especially to see why they really stay together, and also find out more of Ryu’s background and past.
I really wanted to learn more about the Mageia as well. Delve into some of the side characters lives more, and see how they all interact together, and why. Even further explore New Arcadia and the different parts of the city.
I would love to see more of this world.

"If I kill one murderer, the number of murderers stays the same. If I kill more than one, it lowers."

When I saw Talle Fey post about Sin Eater on Tome, I was immediately interested! The concept caught my attention right away, and I was thrilled to be chosen as an ARC reader in exchange for my honest review.

The story kept me interested! The pacing was fast—sometimes a little too fast. I would have loved more world-building and deeper development of character relationships. There were moments that felt rushed, where it could have been stretched out just a little longer to let the emotions sink in.

I loved Rose and her self-awareness. She knew her limits and didn't recklessly throw herself into situations she couldn't handle. She had a plan, usually involving calling Ryu. I also loved Ryu and how he always had her back. I'm looking forward to see their relationship develop further, I hope he begins to trust Roselin more. He's clearly holding a lot back, and I want to learn more! I also would have liked more time with Roselin’s friends. We got to know Nadia fairly well, but the others felt a bit underdeveloped.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read with a lot of potential for the series, and I’m excited to see where it goes next! Thank you again to Talle Fey for choosing me as one of the ARC readers, I highly recommend this book!

Not my personal cup of tea (not a dark romance reader), but Talle is my friends, so read it anyway and throwing it five stars because supporting friends is what we do 😌

Now if only I can go find a man who would spend thousands of dollars on one of my projects...

3.5-4 stars!

Ryu and Roselin had a meet-cute that led them to be more than a one night stand. Roselin was faced with moral dilemma about Ryu and herself that made her question her choices in life. This book explores the way Roselin went through that dilemma and doubt.

Storyline - it was pretty good with the revenge and betrayal, but it may be going too fast like some things happened to fast and sudden. I wish there were more background on what magic they have in that world and how it works, like what elements, why one can obtain it. I also want to see what happens after it ends, it feels like there is more.

Ryu & Roselin - they are very romanticccc like omg 😞 I wished we can see more of the reason they became obsessed with each other and sometimes I don’t understand the sudden sec scenes 😭
Roselin is a very good artist and knows what she deserves in a relationship. She’s a strong character and willing to do anything for her loved ones. Ryu needs to trust her more and believe that she can handle her problems. But the way he brought her to the art exhibition and touch her you die 😍

Side characters - I really love The Driver! I’m curious about his real name tho 👀 also the people who work for Ryu!

Overall, I had a pretty good experience reading this because it was a fast paced book and the characters can also be more explored as well as the magic system. Thank you Talle Fey for choosing me for this ARC!

*I was given this book as an eArc but my review is based solely on my own thoughts and opinions*

I give this book a 3.5-4. I was hooked from the beginning. One of my favorite tropes is bad boy who falls in love with good girl and worships her. It doesn’t seem right and/or ethical to like a bad boy right away after just murdering someone but damn, I did it anyway lol.

There were a couple things I would have liked to change or tweak to make it a 5 star read. I don’t like that you don’t get much information about Ryu, she falls in love with him yet knows nothing about him. I also wish Rose had more backbone, I didn’t like that Ryu was always forgiven because he kissed her or did sexual things to make her forget, it’s starting to lean more into a toxic relationship than romantic, it’s teetering and I don’t know how I feel about it. The book is in 3rd person which is not my favorite personally, it was hard to understand and follow at times, especially if there were multiple people trying to speak or involved. I also would have loved rose and ryu spending more time together, growing their relationship, a lot of the times it seemed purely sexual.. who has that much stamina? lol. While I liked Ryu, I would have loved some chapters from his point of view. Also, Rose was hard to like at times, she whined a lot and acted like a victim. The ending was interesting, it’s kind of a cliffhanger but not really. It’s leaves you guessing and going wtf just happened haha. I kinda like that but then also I don’t cause I’m like I didn’t get a conclusion, closure! Tricky tricky lol.

This is all just feedback of how I felt personally. I still really enjoyed the book and the author should be really proud of themselves! It really makes you think, what is moral, what is ethical, what is right and wrong? I normally don’t think about these things when I read romance so I appreciated the different take. I couldn’t put it down and it gave me butterflies in the tummy so that’s always a good sign!

In the glittering facade of New Arcadia, darkness runs deeper than the shadows. Roselin, a lonely art student searching for purpose, finds herself drawn into the dangerous world of Ryu—a ruthless crime boss who wields deadly Mageía powers. With every life he takes, the shadows bend more to his will, making him both feared and unstoppable. Their worlds couldn’t be more different, yet something magnetic pulls them together. As Roselin paints light, Ryu sinks deeper into the dark. But when revenge creeps in, threatening to destroy everything, the question isn't just whether love can survive—but whether they can.
Sin Eater by Talle Fey is a fast-paced, dark fantasy romance that had me hooked from the start. I genuinely loved both characters. Ryu is that morally grey, shadow-wielding mafia boss who holds terrifying power but would go to any lengths to protect Roselin. And Roselin? She’s this vulnerable yet fierce artist—afraid of his world, yes, but never weak.
Their connection felt intense and real. I loved watching their relationship develop, the way they clashed yet gravitated toward each other. It wasn’t a slow burn—it hits fast and hard—but it worked. You could feel the obsession building on both sides. The push and pull between them was intense.
I love the world the author has built and all the characters in it. I’m so excited to read her other books—can’t wait to see what she creates next!

I received this as an ARC. No slow burn here, it jumps right into the spice. Morally grey MMC (best quote from the book is his and it’s “if I kill one murder, the number of murderers stays the same. If I kill more than one, it lowers.” and FMC who is certain there is only one correct way. MMC falls first and worships MFC, but of course there are miscommunications. Also the use of Glucose Guardian had me laughing so hard. MMC also has magic and so do the people around him. 2 roommates involved with men on opposite sides of each other and the girls trying to navigate their concerns for each other along with their feelings for their boyfriends. A society of wealth and secret societies and a girl from the outside brought in. I liked this book, I would read more in the series. We need a bit more information about the two groups and the founders, but this was a good start. I think the characters could develop and grow more and I’m guessing that comes in following books. I liked the concept and I hope the author doesn’t leave us hanging for more.

***ARC Review***

My rating of this read would have to be between 2.5-3 stars, I rounded up to 3 stars due to the range. First, let me say that this is not a bad book. I overall enjoyed the read quite a bit, but there are certain issues with how this book was written/laid out, that I regrettably can not give it a higher rating.

My biggest issue with Sin Eater was that it was all very surface level. Many parts were rushed, there was barely any world building, character development, any insight to character relationships, etc. The pacing was overall inconsistent, and the parts I really wish the author spent more time laying the groundwork and taking time with the story, it was rushed and often left me confused or guessing. It also had a very abrupt ending.

The overall concept is good, and it has a lot of potential. I just really wish the author spent more time developing this story and translating it to the pages. I would love to learn more about this world, the magic system, etc. If more books were released in the same world, I would be open to reading them.

I had to think about this one for a while. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it.
It delivered what I signed up for and what was expected of the book:

Touch her and die
Morally grey
Magic powers

I liked the characters, they had some depth. I would have love to get more insights on the city, some secondary characters - but maybe this will come in another book. The book explores some moral and ethic dilemmas.

The insta love between Rose and Ryu was not what I expected. It was a bit quick for me, but what the heart wants...

This novel starts with a bang (pun intended) so if you don't mind open door spice, pick it up.
This is defined has a dark romance novel by the author, it explores some dark themes but it still seriously mild, considering what's in the market right now. It could be a nice intro to the genre.

Thank you to the author who provided me with an ARC to this book. This review is my own entirely.

Rosalin, sweet artistic Rosalin has no idea what the underbelly of her city holds, or the shadow daddy that waits for her in that underbelly. (I am YEARNING for fanfic art)
Ryu is a typical broody man, with the weight of the world on his shoulders and a cold heart that is BEGGING for a kind, sweet and gentle soul to break it wide open.
The spice in this book is a solid 3🌶️ and it’s at the start of the book! Got to love a steamy jump to a book I could hardly put down.
The book has the romantsy push and pull between good and evil and plenty of grey areas that the characters have to wade through, or screw through. Rosalin and Ryu are by no means perfect, and that’s what makes them so easy to bond with.

Overall this book had everything I want in a good book- steamy sexy scenes, conflict, a bit of a bad boy shadow daddy, a woman who can’t walk away and plenty of emotional rollercoasters to keep you on your toes.

— Thank you so much for the ARC 💕

۶ৎ Sin Eater totally surprised me. I picked it up expecting some dark mafia romance spice — and yes, I got that in full — but I didn’t expect the emotional weight behind it.

۶ৎ Roselin is a relatable, flawed art student just trying to survive (and paint through her trauma), and Ryu? Well… he’s a sexy shadow-wielding mafia boss with killer vibes — literally.

۶ৎ Their connection is intense and complicated. Like, “I saw you murder someone but I still kinda want to kiss you” complicated. And somehow, it works.

۶ৎ The writing is vivid, the world of New Arcadia feels real, and the whole “art as emotion” thread? Loved it. A few scenes were a bit too long or spicy for plot’s sake, but overall I couldn’t put it down.

۶ৎ If you like dark romance with fantasy vibes and characters who are a beautiful mess, this one’s for you.

This book had my emotions all over the place — in the best way! Sin Eater was a quick read with a solid flow that kept me engaged from start to finish. The world-building was well done, and I felt like I really got to know the characters. Oh, and the spice? Absolutely fantastic!

This story has it all: he falls first, magic, secrets, morally grey characters, steamy romance, “touch her and die” energy, and even underground crime. It’s packed with all the tropes I love.

If I had one gripe, it’d be that Roselin leaned a bit too much into self-pity. She tends to blame herself for everything, and there were a lot of secrets and misunderstandings throughout. (Not necessarily a bad thing — just something that stood out to me.)

All in all, this was a great book, and I’d totally recommend it!

4.25 stars 2.75 🌶️

This one is interesting. It’s a super great read with complex characters. Start to finish, the story is fast paced and creates a lot of push and pull.

The emotional instability of the FMC has me screaming. I found my self saying multiple times, “Jesus Christ, go to fucking therapy!” She definitely has zero healthy coping mechanisms. Honestly, it made me crazy. But at the same time, that’s some phenomenal writing to be able to portray that exact type of person. Bravo!

The MMC is Brody, and mysterious. Sometimes his mysteriousness borders on intentional misdirection and subterfuge. His growth and care is shown a lot as well.

Overall, this is a very character driven, emotional firestorm and ends with more questions than answers. But not in a bad way.

I really enjoyed Rose and Ryu’s story. REALLY enjoyed it. The heat and the action deserve the stars I gave, I think there could have been a bit more character development. I would absolutely love to know more about Ryu, more about Rose’s backstory (iykyk), and I’m hoping that will come later down the line! I’d also like to see her grow some, although she was much more of a typical college kid that you would see irl, which was actually refreshing. The world building and the politics set the series up for success, though, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where things go! Thank you for the ARC!

I got this book as an ARC read - connected with the author on socials and was really intrigued by the blurbs. Starts of hot and heavy - this is open door spicy! Good girl, artist, student FMC Rose meets bad boy, MMC Ryu one night outside a club. Both are broken by their pasts and trying to do right in the world. I could have used some more background into the world they live in - we got bits and pieces through the story. There's magic and secret societies, good side characters - just could have used some more details. I really liked Ryu - but Rose was hit and miss for me. Overall, I think it's a great start to a series and I'll be interested to see more from this author.

I devoured this book. And boy oh boy did I enjoy it!!!
I’m already itching for more!!!!
Spice in the early in thru me for a pleasant loop and had me seriously hooked.
The way the story progressed was a nice pace for me.
The only thing that could have made it better was a peak inside the mmc head. Just so I could better understand him and his actions but that is just a personal preference and in no way diminishes the story not to have it.
Thank you so much for the ability to gobble this story up as an arc reader. You have yourself a new fan !!

When Talle Fey announced sign ups for this book, I knew I had to read it. I mean, who doesn’t like shadow daddy MMCs?! I’m glad I picked this book because the characters were great but I felt like it was a bit rushed at some points and there was not enough world building to give readers background of New Arcadia. I will say that this book did deliver with the spicy scenes and overall plot of the book. It was very interesting and kept me at the edge of my seat!

⭐️ 3/5 | 🌶️ 4/5

Shadow-wielding MMCs usually own my heart—but these shadows? Let’s just say they had me questioning my morals and maybe even my soul 👀🖤

I wanted more: more worldbuilding, more background on Ryu, Rose, Arcadia, and that dark magic system... and yes, even more spice 🌶️😈 This book needed a few extra chapters to really let me sink my teeth in.

My first mafia romance read and honestly? I think I just unlocked a whole new obsession. 💋🖤

This book had such an interesting concept. I’d love to see the world explored more in future books as I can see a lot of potential.
Ryu and Rose were an interesting couple - constantly drawn to each other despite the differences in their lives, their connection grows steadily even if they will not admit it. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more from this author.

This book is pretty good! I wish there was a little more world building, like I need more background information. I feel like we don’t know enough about ryu but maybe we will know more through out the series. There were some points that I wished rose wasn’t so easily forgiving but it was still a good read over all. Definitely a good introduction into fantasy.

I’m sorry but what? The MFC and MMC are both annoying af. I’m unsure of why this is rated so high. It started pretty good, a nice smutty adventure. That was quickly ruined by the MFC being whiny and just pathetic. No communication between the main characters and the villain is all over the place. A very juvenile book.

I have no idea if there will be more, but I hope there is, cause I would so want to see more of Roselin and Ryu. And if I had a nickel for every time a guy in a piece of fiction media named Gale had killed someone close to the FMC, I'd have 2 nickels. It isn't a lot, but I'm honestly kinda concerned that it's happened twice lmao. Anyway, I absolutely loved this book! The characters were likeable(mostly... I'm looking at you Gale lol) and I was sucked into the story from the start. If I'm being completely honest, I wasn't entirely sure where the story was going to go, but it was certainly an interesting time throughout the whole thing.

The only negative thing I have to say, though, is that the smut seemed to get a bit repetitive... Now I'm all for smut, but it felt like the plot was being a bit overshadowed by the smut for a good portion of the book(even though there was some fade to black). However, this doesn't change my overall opinion about this book at all. I feel like there was still enough plot to keep me hooked, and I'm honored to have been able to read this as an ARC tbh.
