Paul Smith, BSN, is a former registered nurse turned author whose journey through PTSD has shaped both his life and his creative voice. Born in 1982 and raised in British Columbia, he now resides in Newfoundland and Labrador, where the rugged coastlines mirror the resilience found in his work.

A proud graduate of Vancouver Island University, Paul holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Though his nursing career was cut short due to trauma sustained in the ICU, his love of storytelling and deep empathy for others led him to write as a form of healing.

Paul is an avid dog lover and a passionate advocate for mental health awareness. His books—including The Zoo Collection—invite readers of all ages into whimsical worlds that reflect human emotion through animal encounters. He writes with the belief that imagination can be a place of recovery, and that everyone belongs at the Zoo.
