As a mother of three lively and very different kids, I picked up Your Journey to Successful Parenting with equal parts hope and skepticism. Author Alexandra Rogers, Ph.D., drawing from her years as a clinical psychologist, walks readers through common parenting challenges with a blend of heartfelt stories, actionable advice, and real-world strategies. Broken into four parts, the book covers how kids learn, why they misbehave, how to correct behaviors, and when it’s time to seek professional help. Rogers makes a big point that most behaviors come from patterns — both good and bad — and that parents have the power to shape those patterns with consistent, thoughtful attention.

Reading through the chapters, I felt a huge wave of relief. Rogers writes in a way that doesn’t talk down to you. She gets it — the messy mornings, the homework wars, the way one kid turns into an angel at school but a whirlwind at home. I loved her emphasis on simple techniques, like catching your kid being good rather than constantly scolding. It hit me how often I focus on what's wrong instead of what’s right. Her ideas about using behavior charts and storytelling to teach emotional regulation were so practical that I actually started using them the same week. And they worked! But what really touched me was her reminder that kids aren't trying to be "bad" — they're communicating. That thought alone changed my heart.

Parenting stubborn or special-needs children, like my middle one, is messy. Some days, it’s not just a matter of using a behavior chart or changing your tone. Some days it’s just about surviving the storm. Still, the book made me feel less alone. Rogers’ warmth shines through, and it’s clear she respects how hard parenting really is.

If you’re a parent who's tired, overwhelmed, and desperate for a fresh start with your kids, this book is for you. It’s a great guide for parents of toddlers through tweens, especially if you’re looking for easy-to-understand, no-fuss strategies that don’t involve yelling or endless power struggles. I know I’ll be keeping it close by — dog-eared and coffee-stained — for the many messy years of parenting still ahead.

A refreshing approach for happy families!

California author Alexandra J. Rogers PhD is a clinical psychologist who, in addition to her extensive experience focused on coaching parents in family counseling, has contributed significantly to support groups for children, parents, and adults on the autism spectrum. As she so aptly states ion her introduction, ‘This book gives you the keys trough examples, recommendations, and explanations of what works and why. Spme examples will mirror your struggles with your children; others deal with situations you haven’t encountered yet but may in the future.’

Subtitled ‘A Stress-Free Guide to Effective Behavior Change,’ Dr. Rogers provides easily accessible guidelines for examining the interactions between parent and child in understanding behavior patterns and after her astute discussion she offers instructions on parental interventions to change responses – from both parent and child! Additional insights into recognizing OCD, substance abuse, anger and depression that would benefit from referral to a professional complete this extraordinarily wise and valuable book. Very highly recommended

Helping dads

What a great book! It is a super help for all those who are raising children between 2 and 11 years old, in principle, but it will be a help for when the children are older and they will avoid a lot of headaches.
Being a mom and dad is not an easy task, but with this book things will definitely improve and it will become a great help to make parenting easier and more bearable with an easy to understand vocabulary and written in an easy to assimilate way.
This book gives a series of strategies, where parents will learn how to behave in certain situations of their children, such as tantrums, learn to set limits, avoid confrontations, etc., and thus help their children to manage emotions, respect for others, follow rules, among many other things.
This should be a must have book for all first time parents.

Nowadays, parenting has become a bigger challenge. There are many approaches to raising children, and new parents often experience a lot of fear because they don’t want to make mistakes. But one truth remains: no one truly learns how to be a parent until they actually become one.
To support you on this journey, books like this one are essential for parenting, especially when they come from someone with broad experience and deep knowledge, such as Alexandra J. Rogers, Ph.D. I really appreciate that she covers childhood as a whole, not only focusing on the early years but also addressing older stages, recognizing that it is an ongoing process.

I liked the actionable tips and the various approaches she presents, reminding us that one size does not fit all. As caregivers, we can decide what is best for our children based on what works for us.

This is an excellent book for parents with children between 2 and 11 years old.
Here are some takeaways:

Kids "want your love, admiration, and attention."
Problems occur when you stop giving them that.

"Address family members respectfully."

"Have a routine. Young children thrive on structure."

Rogers encourages parents to try Behavior Charts, but discourages tracking chores on such charts.

Storytelling is an effective way to convey a message or a lesson.

Replace negative commands with positive ones: say what you want them to do, not what you don't want them to do.

Share videos of your child doing great things and have others praise them when they see the video.

Separation anxiety is normal between 6 and 36 months.

CONCLUSION: Great parenting tips!

As a parent navigating the amazing experience of raising kids, I was really caught to the promise of this "stress-free guide."  What I appreciated most was the balanced approach the author makes. It’s not about being a pushover, but it’s also not about being overly strict. The book really emphasizes the importance of setting clear boundaries and consistent discipline, but it also focuses on positive communication and building a strong connection with your kids. This changed my life and the way we interact as a family.

This book is for parents looking to create and give a more positive family dynamic. I like that the author emphasizes the importance and the work that needs to be done in understanding and not just managing. I think the read will help a lot of parents who feel lost sometimes regarding parenting. I found the advice given to be clear, realistic and also easy to start working on it.
It has great tips to approach difficult moments putting conversation on a big pedestal. Overall, I think this book is very captivating and also like something to rely on when life as a parent gets a bit blurry.

Improving parents-children relationships.

Being a parent and raising children responsibly is quite a challenge. While there is no manual for being a "right parent," this book comes pretty close to that concept. Your Journey to Successful Parenting offers advice and tools to solve or avoid the most common problems in the relationship between parents and children.
The author Alexandra J. Rogers uses all her experiences as a clinical psychologist specializing in children and families to guide parents through their children's infancy and pre-adolescence. I liked it because she is clear in transmitting her ideas and also it is written in a calm and empathetic tone. It can be hopeful for those who are going through a difficult time.
