Julie Walker and Jase Gibson have been in love since they were just kids. They had starting dating when they were in high school. They moved in together shortly after Julie’s graduation and they were on their way to their happily ever after. They had it all, until Jase broke her heart in the worse possible way. Julie runs away for nine long years.
During their time apart, Jase takes to the bottle and women. He knows he will never find the happiness he had with Julie again and the guilt of his mistake eats at him everyday. Julie’s life, unfortunately, goes from bad to worse and because of circumstances out of her control must return back home. Nine years apart has done nothing to dissolve the love these two have for each other. However, they do have a boatload of issues to work through if they are ever going to be together again.
I loved reading this story, the authors took some very touchy and disturbing issues and turned it into a very emotional read where you are find yourselves routing for everyone involved. You will be hoping that Jase can prove he is a changed man and that he can forgive Julie for her secret. You will be hoping that Julie can forgive Jase for his indiscretions.
Along the way you are introduced to so many others that are involved and that have also been hurt. All of these side characters are likeable and you just can’t help but hope for a happily ever after for all of them.
Broken
Bethany Daniels is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She is truly a good -natured person and someone everyone would like to call a BFF. Unfortunately, for her, she has had a horrific life and has endured abuse no one should even have to have nightmares about let alone live through.
Brandon Walker is a decelerated war hero that returns home after being injured and is honorably discharged. Brandon and his sister did not have the best of childhoods until his uncle and aunt took them in and gave them a real family. Brandon harbors an extreme amount of guilt for not having been there for his sister and niece when they needed him most.
When Bethany and Brandon first come together, I was thinking no way are these authors going to be able to turn this around and give them a happily ever after. Bethany is so broken and Brandon just has too much guilt.
I’m not sure if I can be put back together, Brandon.” He gently wraps his arms around me and pulls me onto his lap. Instead of feeling trapped, I feel protected. “If that’s true, we’ll be broken together”.
I have to say I was amazed at how they were brought together and made to believe that true love can conquer all. I loved reading their story.
I Hope you Dance
If you are a romantic sap like me you will love this last story. It is the perfect closure to the box set, short and sweet and brings together all the characters in the first two books. I loved being able to see where everyone wound up and how it all turned out.
“Love isn’t all about the good times; it’s not about being perfect all the time. If you look for perfection in the people you love, you’re going to constantly be disappointed. When you love someone, you have to do so unconditionally.”
These stories have just enough of everything to hold your interest…. love, betrayal, danger, swoon worthy alphas, angst and happily ever after. You will not be disappointed.
Love Song Series Box Set by Emily Minton and Dawn Martens
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the authors…
Whisky Lullaby – Book 1 Series: Yes Cliffhanger: No POV: Dual (Julie and Jase)
What can I saw about this book? I both wanted to kick the shit out of Jase and hug him…until he stopped breathing then revive him and give him a big kiss. For those who have read the synopsis know Jase did a no-no, a BIG no-no and now he wants to rectify what he did and win back his true love Julie.
Now Julie she was a very strong character (I like the female leads to be strong), she lived through having her heart ripped by the two people she loved the most, was a young single parent and unfortunately ended up in an abusive marriage. But through all this, she found a true sister in her sister-in-law, Bethany, and she had her beautiful little girl, Jenny.
This book is about healing, forgiveness, moving forward and not letting the past dictate your future. Jase and Julie are both slightly damaged people who make each other whole. Can they overcome their past and create a beautiful future? Or will Julie’s past comeback and destroy everyone and everything in its past?
Broken – Book 2 Series: Yes Cliffhanger: No POV: Dual (Bethany and Brandon)
This book made me want to kick some ass! Sweet, sweet Bethany deserved so much more than she got from her parents and her f***** of a brother. In Whiskey Lullaby, we get a glimpse into the physical and mental abuse she suffered at the hands of Dean (I have another name for him, but I’m trying to keep this clean as possible). But Broken is Bethany’s story and we learn everything that happened to her starting from when she was a little girl.
I warn you now Broken gives a look into all the abuse Bethany suffered through, without going into any disturbing details, but it still could be difficult for some to read.
But Bethany’s story takes a turn when she finally meets her best friend’s brother, Brandon. Now I would love to say Brandon was great guy from the beginning, but I can’t because he’s a guy and they rarely get anything right the first time.
But I will once he got his head out of his ass he was swoon worthy and lived up to my expectations for Bethany, she deserved the best and that is what she got.
I Hope You Dance – Book 2.5 Series: Yes Cliffhanger: No POV: Multiple
Now instead of giving a big review because there are too many spoilers I will give a brief statement.
I LOVED THIS STORY. I wouldn’t call it novella, but I would say it is the ULTIMATE epilogue and they end the stories so beautifully I couldn’t ask for more.
I finished Love Song Series Box Set and I just loved it. This box set includes Whiskey Lullaby (Jase and Julie) Broken (Brandon and Bethany) and I Hope you Dance (a final story with the Gibson and Walker family).
WL - Jase and Julie were high school sweethearts. Certain things happen in Jase's life that causes him to make mistakes, ruining his relationship with Julie. She leaves brokenhearted and ends up staying away for 9 years. Here is the thing. She ends up having a baby. Jase has no clue and when she finally comes back home, he is in for a rude awakening. Will he be able to forgive her for leaving and keeping his daughter away? Will she be able to forgive Jase for his mistakes? I really enjoyed this story. I thought that they were a good couple and that they grew up together really well. They learned from their mistakes because yes, they both made them but that is what makes them real to me. I loved the story line and like and loved their chemistry.
Broken - Brandon and Bethany have known each other through pictures/letters but never met face to face until Jase and Julie's wedding. If you read WL, then you know that Brandon is Julie's brother and Bethany's is Julie's ex sister in law. Bethany is a broken girl that has had to deal with alot in her life. She has to overcome some obstacles that no one should ever have to deal with. Brandon is having a hard time with Bethany. He wants her but he thinks about stuff in her past and tries to understand that it wasnt her fault but because he is so damn stubborn, he cant help it. Will he be able to get past that to have a future with Bethany? Will Bethany be able to let things go to move forward? I really enjoyed this story too. It had sadness that just broke my heart but with sadness comes happiness. Things happen for a reason and if they didnt they wouldnt have gotten to where they are now. I loved their chemistry and their banter.
I Hope You Dance ~ This is a follow up with all the couples in the story but it is based around Jenny's wedding (Jase and Julie's daughter). This story for me just put things into perceptive with the couples. It brings them into now so you get to see what they are doing now. Love how that happens. I just think that it was done in a smart way and it just makes my heart fill with such gladness but it is bittersweet because we will not be reading them anymore. This was a beautiful journey and I am so glad that I was able to be apart of it.

☆ I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. ☆
WL was the first book of Dawn and Emily's I ever read so it was like things were coming full circle. The changes made to WL were definitely noticeable and made the story tons better. I fell back in love with Jase and Julie's story.
After waiting what seems like forever for Broken, I can definitely say I was NOT disappointed with it's outcome. Bethany's story lead me on an emotional roller coaster. She was so broken and torn because of everything she had been through and it amazed me how strong she stood.
I Hope You Dance was very hard for me to read because I'm thoroughly sadden by the idea that this series is over. The ending left no unanswered questions and I was very pleased by this box set. It's definitely a must read series.
I received an arc copy for my honest review so here it is. This set is so great I can't even tell how good, once I started I really couldn't put it down. In Whiskey Lullaby Jase makes a mistake and loses the one thing that means the most to him, Julie the love of his life. Time passes and she come home, but has kept a huge secret from Jase. They have to forgive each other to move forward, but they keep running into obstacles.I kept rooting for them, cause they so belong together. In Broken you will fall in love with Bethany and Brandon it was a sweet love story. It really made me hate Dean more then I already did.it was very short, but sweet. In I Hope You Dance it was a nice surprise I loved it. Excellent book couldn't wish for a better one. Would highly recommend this. If you read one this should be it, you will not be disappointed that's for sure.
Loved the new edited version and the added novella and short story with the look into the future of all the characters we grow to love and even hate in Whiskey Lullaby. Still breaks my heart to read Julie's story but that's what makes a great story, coming back from the brink of heartbreak to find your HEA. Broken broke my heart and had me ugly crying for a long time but also had its HEA in the end. I Hope you Dance was a great look into where everyone went in the years to follow and what happened next. Dawn Martens and Emily Minton have a wonderful ability to break your heart and give it back to you ten fold in one sitting and I greatly enjoy reading every book I read of theirs whether singular or co authored. Good show ladies!
totally loved these books, I had already read Whiskey Lullaby several times and loved it but the revisions made to it made it even better:), plus reading about all the other characters and getting their HEA's made it even better:) Whiskey Lullaby is in some ways one of those typical stories of boy cheats on girl and she leaves town only to return years later, but, its what happens in between and after her return that keep you reading and wanting to learn more. Broken was in some ways hard to read, it was great but what Bethany went thru was heart wrenching. I hope you dance was a sweet way to end the stories and tie up all the loose ends:) great read....
WOW!!! WOW!!! I was given an ARC of love song series by EMILY MINTON and DAWN MARTENS and I can honestly say it was awesome I just couldn't put it down and had to finish it in one night. The fact she added to Whiskey Lullaby it made the book very enjoyable and a pleasure to read. This box set is a MUST READ... LOVE SONG SERIES will make you laugh cry want to kick the crap out of the idiots scream and yell lol... each page each book will pull you along for an awesome ride that both MS EMILY MINTON and MS DAWN MaRTENS are well known for.. congrats on yet another awesome book and thanks again for the ARC copy it was well worth the sleepless night
5 stars for each book. Absolutely loved this set. I absolutely recommend this 3 book series you won't be disappointed. This is a buy. I cried tears and was so happy at the end of each book. The problems that each character went thru happens every day each story was very touching. I know you will love all the characters just as much as I did.
Fantastic Box Set, love the revised edition of Whiskey Lullaby. Bethany's story Broken is a heartbreaker. Then I Hope You Dance is one of the hottest bonus novellas I've ever read. Find out what happens next for all of your favorite characters in the Love Song Series.
This is an amazing set of books and it is great that they are now available in a collection. Each of these books are great on their own, but together, wow. This is one collection that you must get.
The story line was good, but I just didn't feel that the characters were very deep. The story moved so quickly that I don't think they had time to develop.
This box set consists of the two books in the series and the novella that pretty much round it all up. I have to say before anything else, this is a box set you need to read. The collaboration between these two authors is flawless and they have made a really exceptional series that has some very interesting story lines and characters. Book One Whiskey Lullaby
This book follows Jase and Julie and pretty much introduces the whole family of characters that we meet and follow throughout. After coming across a cheating Jase after 3 years of living together and even more years spent as a couple, Julie packs up and leaves her life behind. Cue 9 years later and Julie returns to her family after escaping an extremely abusive marriage and with a surprise or two in toe!
This story flows really well and although not a lot of time is spent on what has happened in the previous 9 years, the plot really is more about Jase and Julie's relationship and how they go about repairing something that broke them both and led to hurt and anger from both sides. Without giving too much away, there are some really lovely scenes written in this book and Jenny is just such a great character and has such spunk that she lightens up all the angst. My favourite line in the book comes from her an although I can't write it all for fear of spoiling the plot, it ends with, '.....if you kiss anymore girls that aren't Momma, I'll bit your ankles.' She had me in stitches a few times!
A whole range of characters are introduced in this book and I am sure the next book will continue their stories. They include, Matty and Shane - Jase's brothers; Brandon - Julie's brother; Kristen and Will - Julie & Brandon's cousins/siblings and Bethany - Julie's sister-in-law. I know the second book can only get better and I am looking forward to it!
Book Two Broken
'No-one will ever want me. I'm worthless. I'm broken'- Bethany
What can I say, the line says it all.
This book had me in tears and Emily and Dawn handle the recounting of Bethany's life in such a sensitive way that I dare you not to be moved by this part of the story line. Some people have complained it was too fast/short but to be honest I think the way it is dealt with and what is revealed is just enough to allow the readers to understand Bethany's background and allow the future story with Brandon to work without it being all about the past influences. I think if the book had been all about Bethany and Dean, we probably wouldn't have had the story follow the route it did. To be truthful, this worked perfectly for me and the strong, sexy Brandon with the damaged and traumatised Bethany is just such a beautiful. The story also allowed for the strong family bonds created in the first book to be continued and relationships to be developed.
My favourite line in this book was by Brandon when he states to a anguished Bethany, 'You may be broken, Lady Bug, but I swear to God, I'll pick up your pieces and make you better than new' - SWOON!
This book was simply perfect!
Novella - I Hope You Dance
Hot, hot, hot!
It seems ALL the couple in the series have hot, sweaty and sensual sex in this mini book and boy is it sizzling! This generally is a wrap up of all the couples and where they are now which is just such a great thing to do. I hate it when authors leave readers guessing as to where the characters go next and this just wraps it all up neatly for me. Am I sad that this means that the end of this group is pretty much definite, yes but this novella certainly adds the finishing touches to what is a great series and I am so happy that Emily and Dawn ended things this way. What can I say, the way Jenny turns out as an adult....I'm so not totally surprised, her sassiness and cheekiness just shines right on through!
A five star PLUS read for me......certainly worth picking up and reading. A great collaborative series, I only hope Emily and Dawn write more together soon.
Whiskey Lullaby I was a little nervous going into this book. I wasn't sure how it was all going to play out. But I have to say that everything played out great.
Julie hasn't been happy in years. Yes, her daughter Jenny brings joy to her life, but she isn't living the life she wants. She doesn't know how to get away from Dean, her husband. She has tried, but always fails. She needs to find a way and fast. After one night of craziness she finds a way out. She takes Bethany, Dean's sister with her. She can't leave Bethany there to deal with him alone. Julie knows she needs to go home, but she doesn't know if she can face Jase. The one man she loved who broke her. Can she go home? Will she forgive Jase?
Jase will never forgive himself for the night he caused Julie to leave him. He has regretted it and has tried to drown his sorrows in whiskey and woman. He has a different woman every night and never takes them home. He wants Julie back, but she's been gone for nine years and he can't find her. He doesn't even know if she would take him back. Once he learns of her coming home he knows that it will be difficult to win her back. She is going to know about all the woman since she left. Can he convince her he is a changed man? Also how will he react to the secret Julie drops on him? Can they find a happy ever after?
This book was a sad, heartbreaking read. I wanted to cry for Julie in places. I wanted to punch a few people in this book, but they got what was coming to them. I cried for Bethany and everything she went through. I am hoping she can find her own happy ever after. She deserves to be happy.
Broken I was really looking forward to Bethany and Brandon's story. But I needed more. It was too short and moved way to fast.
Bethany has had a really crap life. She was abused from a very young age by her brother. Her dad worked a lot and the mom just acted like it wasn't happening. She always tried to warn her brothers girlfriends that he was bad news, but some wouldn't listen. Her best friend who happened to marry Dean finally got Beth and herself away from Dean. But can she be free to move I with her life. She wants Brandon. She fell in love with him through his letter to his sister Julie. She doesn't know how to go about letting him into her life especially when she thinks he hates her for what her brother did to his sister. Can she let herself love a man? Or will she always be afraid?
Brandon is home from war. He hasn't been home very much in the last nine years and he has missed a lot. He knows he wants Bethany, but he doesn't. He needs someone to blame for what Dean did. He knows it's wrong, but every time Bethany is around he treats her like crap. Can he finally admit his feelings for her? Or will he break her heart?
This was a really good book and I wanted more. I feel like the story was rushed. It's like the authors knew what they wanted to happen, but rushed it. This would have been a five story if there was more to the story.
I Hope You Dance This was a small novella. It was about Jenny, Jase and Julie's daughter. But each of the main characters has their chapter also. We get to know what happens with Matty, Shane, Will, Kristen and Becca.
I loved learning what happened with all these characters since they won't be getting their own books. My only major issue was the fact that some of their chapters left me with more questions.
I am really sad to see this series end and really hope one day they may come back to it.
There is something about Emily Minton and Dawn Martens that just draws me in. I started this book and like their other books, it drew me in and didn’t let go until I was done. I devoured this book in a little over a day, only because life got in the way.
This is a box set that revolves around the lives of the Walker and Gibson families. In each book we get a glimpse at the lives of these two families.
WHISKEY LULLABY - is the story of Jase Gibson and Julie Walker. These two fell in love young and were together until one afternoon when it all blew up. For nine years they were apart. Jase falling further into alcohol and nameless women while Julie thought she rebuild her life. Julie’s life gets turned upside down once again and she finds herself going home. Going home is never an easy feat when somethings never change, but others change drastically. This is the story of second chances and whether or not two people find what they once had when the pain they have caused each other seems insurmountable.
Initially I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this story, Julie seemed very juvenile and Jase seemed like an idiot. But I think that was the point, as they were both young when the story begins. They grew on me as the story continued. Jase seemed really sorry for the choices that he made and Julie seemed to also know that her own mistakes hurt people too. There were still points where one or the other would jump to conclusions and as the reader I would roll my eyes but their story really intrigued me. This story also touches on the deeply disturbing topic of domestic violence and what that can look like.
BROKEN - This is the story of Brandon and Bethany, whom we previously met. This was a heart wrenching tale that dove deeper into Bethany’s past and her terrible life. She believes that she is broken and undeserving of love. She has a tremendous amount of unresolved issues and has no idea what it is like to be in love. Brandon is a decorated war veteran and Julie’s brother. He has his own set of issues because he feels responsible for things he had no control over. This is the story about whether two broken people can once again become whole.
I really liked this story but wish it was longer. I would have also liked to have alternating POV like was in the first book and would have really liked to get an inside view of Brandon’s head. While the reader knew what his issues were the understanding of what else was going with him would have made the story better.
I HOPE YOU DANCE - This was like the “where are they now” story. It a really nice and totally hot way to see how everyone, not just Jase, Julie, Brandon and Bethany were doing. Told at a much later date in the future, you get to follow up on everyone else. While you have a feeling other things are happening during the first two stories, you never really know, until now. This was short, hot (I said that already right) and just a real great way to end a series.

Julie is one happy girlfriend when we meet her in the beginning of Whiskey Lullaby, but that doesn’t last long when she sees first hand what type of guy Jase has become. She knows she has to leave to truly start over with her life and she does so immediately. I liked that she wasn’t going to stay around letting him treat her any way he wanted to.
We get a fast forward 9 years later and Jase is a mess. Julie is struggling to put another relationship behind her and she ends up coming home. To face the music of her decisions and also for us to get another shot at The Jase and Julie love story. It was awesome. Jase definitely had to earn his spot back, but Julie also had some mistakes to atone for. I loved the push pull Julie went through because it understandable. Jase would have done back flips if that was what Julie wanted from him.
Broken- Book 2
Bethany has so much guilt over what Julie went through with her brother. She has an awful thought process on cycle in her head.
Brandon has a ton of guilt about not being able to protect his little sister Julie from Dean too. He takes somethings out on Bethany and my heart breaks for her. She internalized everything her threw at her and it broke her heart into pieces because she has felt a connection to him for years through his letters to Julie.
Brandon feels the same way, but he has to learn to accept people for who they are not who they are related too. Bethany has suffered so much. It was nice to read their story once Brandon got over himself. I loved him having to work for her. She deserved every bit of happiness she got. There is a little twist in their story but nothing major. Broken was another great read from Emily Minton
I Hope You Dance- Book 2.5
This was a great read! We got to read little snippets of all the people in The Love Song Series. All the Walker’s and Gibsons. It was nice to see Will and Becca 10 years later. Becca was lost but I’m so glad she found her way and Shane got his forever. That was the only thing I didn’t like about broken. Shane was so awesome. I’m so glad he got his happily ever after.
I have to say this a great read and the characters where brilliant I loved every one and some not so the it left me wanting more Julie and Jace life's wasn't easy and they went through a lot but I think it made them stronger Bethany life was horrible and gruesome and she needs a hug but Brandon did one better and I'm glad she needs a strong man the hold her Kristen and Matty I loved them what secret you held about them you Devil writers Shane ahhh I loved him he was so funny and I'm glad he got a good woman Becca will I hated her for what she did but she redeemed herself a thousand times over and I'm glad she her man Jenny what a wee witch she is a good witch tho she made me laugh so hard at times and she was the glue to all these lives I give this 4 stars I wanted more from the authors cause I love all they write I loved Whiskey Lullaby but the other 2 books felt rushed to me I loved and I know something's has happened in their lives and I would in no way blame for maybe it's just me but I would wait years for the next one if its right and I know pressure can be put on series sorry Dawn and Emily it no way would stop me reading any more form you 2
I liked this box set it was a good read. The first story is a full length tale about Julie and Jace, way back they were together till she caught him cheating, she left town, but she's got a secret. When she returns it all comes out. The story is angsty and a bit of a roller coaster emotionally. I'm not keen on cheating heroes, so their path is rocky. The second story about Brandon and Bethany contained so many difficult issues I just felt as a novella it didn't do it justice. I liked both Brandon and Bethany though, they were sympathetically written. The final novella is basically a round up of the other characters very enjoyable to read.
Book one about Jace and Julie was just awesome!!! Angsty and some darkness to it.
Book 2 was about Brandon and Bethany. This one was my favorite. Bethany went through some sick stuff with her brother. This one definitely had darkness to it.
Then book 3 was a Novella! It brings you up to date with everyone and how their future turned out! They even threw Jenny in it. :)
These books were a great read and well worth your time and money to read them. All 3 books in the series are boxed together for easy reading at a great price. You get Whiskey Lullaby, Broken and I Hope You Can Dance. They all were great reads. They all had great characters and wonderful story lines. I really would like to read more in this series about the other brothers. Rated very good
Enjoyable series but let down by the final book happy endings which just didn't do anything for me. In my opinion it was rushed and dealt with everyone mentioned in the series and was just page after page of steamy sex at a wedding where Jenny went from a 9 year in a blink of an eye to an adult.
