Kentarou Miura (三浦建太郎) was born in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, in 1966. He is left-handed. In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first Manga, entitled "Miuranger", that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. In 1977, Miura created his second manga called Ken e no michi (剣への道 The Way to the Sword), using Indian ink for the first time. When he was in middle school in 1979, Miura's drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. His first dōjinshi was published, with the help of friends, in a magazine in 1982.

That same year, in 1982, Miura enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he and his classmates started publishing their works in school booklets, as well as having his first dōjinshi published in a fan-produced magazine. In 1985, Miura applied for the entrance examination of an art college in Nihon University. He submitted Futanabi for examination and was granted admission. This project was later nominated Best New Author work in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Another Miura manga Noa was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine the very same year. Due to a disagreement with one of the editors, the manga was stalled and eventually dropped altogether. This is approximately where Miura's career hit a slump.

In 1988, Miura bounced back with a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, as an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves (王狼, ōrō?) based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken. It was published in the monthly Japanese Animal House magazine in issues 5 and 7 of that year.

In 1990, a sequel is made to Ourou entitled Ourou Den (王狼伝 ōrō den, The Legend of the Wolf King) that was published as a prequel to the original in Young Animal Magazine. In the same year, the 10th issue of Animal House witnesses the first volume of the solo project Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga titled Japan, that was published in Young Animal House from the 1st issue to the 8th of 1992, and was later released as a stand-alone tankōbon. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas. At this time Miura dedicates himself solely to be working on Berserk. He has indicated, however, that he intends to publish more manga in the future.

In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. Various art books and supplemental materials by Miura based on Berserk are also released. In 1999, Miura made minor contributions to the Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. 2004 saw the release of yet another video game adaptation entitled Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Record of the Holy Demon War.

Since that time, the Berserk manga has spanned 34 tankōbon with no end in sight. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan-made, ranging from statues, action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award of Excellence for Berserk.[1]

Miura provided the design for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo, whose voice is taken from the Japanese singer and actor, Gackt.

Miura passed away on May 6, 2021 at 2:48 p.m. due to acute aortic dissection.

More addictive then the last two volumes.
Problem is i am working these days not much time for reading anymore, and such is the way of life.
anyway...
Next volume will be absolute fireworks, its so promising.
It looks like the inquisitor is really a human, and it looks like from the final page, that he is going to be turned into one of the demons.
Casca is so out of it even though, she proved she is still athletic with that stunt she made, when she dropped her self from the ropes, and jumped from rock to rock to the ground
The girl with the puffy hair is so miserable, she is so fragile, and weak, and she is doing terrible things by Casca, but at the same time she can't do anything else, she is just too fucking terrified.
Isidiro is one of the characters that joined the manga, to make it more light to the reader, less depressing, i like him! his rock throwing powers are amazing lol.
I also like the other courtesan, their leader i didn't memorize her name, but she is amazing even though, they are the weakest layer of the society, she is strong, and she sets a great example for her comrades, she stands up for them, and helps them be more of a group, that stand up for each other.
Serpico has been revealed to be the bodyguard of lady Farnesse, appointed by her family, and that explains why he is the most skilled in the holy iron chain knights so far, And his cunning is like no other, we have ever seen so fa,r he is smarter then Griffith! its amazing! i like him but i don't like where he stands, on the opposite side of the hero of the story.
And lastly i will talk about Farnese, she is weird we can't tell if she is wicked or not, its just so hard with her sometimes, she is ruthless but against the weak, if you think about it, and sometimes she is extremely terrified, and can't deal with the situation she is in, and its evident she fears our black swords man, i think next volume will be very satisfying for us, and will reveal a lot of new things about each character, and where they stand.

Casca & Guts reunion! A brief one at that. I mean, C’MON. Can’t the fate give them a break for once? 😩 They haven’t seen each other in two years yet when they meet again he gotta save her from being raped. *sigh* Some things never change. 😪 Serpico is getting more and more interesting 👀 I bet he’s about to play a big part in the future events. I LOVE MY BOY ISIDRO. Him and Puck provide a much needed comic relief and I’m VERY thankful for that.
Anyways, something HUGE is coming and I am not ready at all. 😶
P.S. Nina, you selfish whiny bitch. Please, die.

This is where the Conviction arc begins to lose me a little. All the fights are great and the bloodshed memorable and amazing - as usual - but the plot gets a lot more difficult to follow.

Honestly, if the world goes just as haywire around Casca as it does around Guts, I wonder how she made it this far without his help in the first place. You'd think she would have spread death and dismay everywhere by now. I'm glad she's fine.

Fight with Serpico is a highlight. All the slaughter from before, you'd think a mere human can no longer stand against Guts, yet here we're proven wrong in that regard as well. It's pretty great.

This volume was awesome and its Guts pretty much going on the hunt for Casca as she is first taken by the cultists and then when possessed and fighting them, the Knights come in and Guts is there too dashing and slashing them to look for Casca but then she is taken by the knights, Guts on his journey there to look for her, but the darkness and creatures of the dark follow her and may have consumed her. What will her fate be and can Guts save her? Also interesting things with Nina and her rescue and the belief of Farnese and the others is challenged here. Its testing their faith and its so dark. The art is just on another level especially when the sudden scary panels come in, its becoming more horror like and its perfect.

Miura seems to have something very large set up for Casca and Gatts raids the Vatican strong hold and it becomes clear both the pagans and the faith had demonic influences and apostle involvement. Putting Casca in constant peril seems like an unfortunate trope but the further development and introduction of side-characters is welcome.

Guts is right on the tail of Casca, but he is so close yet still so far away. Everytime he is just about to meet her, something happena. Miura definitely knows how to build up tension. So much happened in this particular volume from the regular action, violence to some really wtf up moments.

Capra Demon filters another one... Eh? Wait, wrong series.

I don't believe I mentioned before, but I enjoy how Dark Horse's summaries on the back of these volumes read like some overly-dramatic, "cool" late-'90s/early-'00s English-dubbed anime shit. "But Hell hath no fury like the Black Swordsman!" Feels like some "Next time on Dragon Ball Z" shit.

I also neglected to mention for the past three volumes, but the reason I resumed the series at this point was actually because the Koei Tecmo Omega Force game is on sale on PSN right now, and I was thinking of getting it with Pirate Warriors 4, even though I've heard the game is a new nadir of kusoge for the musou genre. And I guess also I've been finally getting around to House of the Dragon, which has been making me roll my eyes with some of the "totally obligatory 'badass' graphic violence" scenes, and Aemond's stupid fucking eyepatch. So I guess I was in the mood for some "edgier" fantasy.

Serpico is fast becoming one of my favorite characters. Isidro is still great as well. And Puck.

I am in dire need of re-reading the Golden Age. I do believe I've said this before (but it's been ages since my pre-Vol. 16 reviews), but when I read that esteemed arc it was during a time when I had an immense bias against the fantasy genre, so I underappreciated it as a consequence. I've been enjoying Conviction quite a lot more, especially this Birth Ceremony Chapter lasting as long as it has.

Gosh, I can't imagine why the guy who reluctantly accompanied you to an orgy at a witches' sabbath... whom you told everyone at the orgy to murder when he wouldn't swear himself to demon-worship after he discovered that you and your friends were eating & feeding him murdered-baby stew... who managed to escape and survive after you thought you'd successfully helped push him off a cliff to his death... would lead the witch hunters to rout your "congregation" and then want absolutely nothing to do with you when you ran into each other later. It's truly baffling.

Honestly, that curly-haired blonde prostitute/devil-worshipper is the most insufferably stupid character. And I hate even more that she makes sense in this setting.

Masterpiece ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The art at its top, father Mozgus is mad, and represents the church perfectly, the feelings the art provoke are indiscerptible, only pure art can achieve this. I love how all the feelings a human being can feel are showed in here, specially fear, selfishness, power and madness

Guts kills some Holy Knights in St. Albion and Luca tells him about "Elaine" (Casca) but Casca has ran off with Nina. So everyone is searching for Casca once again. They end up back at that pagan cave (the orgy-loving cannibals). There's a huge battle including demons summoned by Guts and Casca's brand - that transforms the Goat guy into a monster.

Serpico and Guts have a pretty epic fight on a cliff-side. Guts almost gets killed in it.

Casca eventually is captured along with Nina and sent to the dungeons of the Tower of Conviction.

A very consumable volume! It’s as dark as ever, like usual, but the story is developing in an interesting direction. I always like things with creepy religious cults and their eventual take down.
