A Pursuit of Madness: A Twisted Princess Collection

Rate this book
Some say I was driven to madness. Others say I'm a stone-cold killer.

The truth is . . . I'm just ridding this world of its most depraved souls, one surgery at a time.

Banished from Wonderland as a child, I have searched for years to find a way back to the twisted realm that took everything from me.

But for years, I failed.

Until now.

And if there's one thing I crave more than poetic justice, it's revenge on the Queen who banished me.

When the looking glass reappears, I'm thrust back into Wonderland, right into the hands of the Black Spade brothers.

They're monsters with a knack for taking what they want, and an insatiable taste for blood and vengeance.

They've vowed to break me, but what they don't know is . . . I won't break easily.

I've managed to escape their clutches—for now—but how long can I run until I'm captured by the Queen's executioners? Or, worse, back in the deadly grip of the Black Spade brothers?

Alice in wonderland is my absolute favorite fairy tale. And for the first 70ish% this book had nailed it! Plot twists, dark depravity, different angles I'd never read before......and then everything just unraveled. I feel like this could have easily ended on a cliffhanger at the 70ish% and book 2 could have been so much more with the same conclusion. This is a why choose but I feel like the last member was just randomly thrown into it without the development and relationship the previous members had built. The ending felt very rushed and could have been expanded into fantastical imaginings. This author showed some amazing potential and I will absolutely read more by her.

Loved it

I couldn't figure out where it was going with Rose and Alice as the main character. I made up different plots in my mind so it was a surprise. I like the spice I wanted a little more but the build up was good. Highly recommend

As I said on other social media's, this book had me on page 3. Knowing I had to finish it. Amber blended the characters well. I didn't know how they all would meet, but they did. It wasn't awkward. The twists...the 🌶🌶🌶 was amazing. She made Alice a strong person but yet fragile .

Great read!!

This book was great. Amber did a fantastic job giving it an Alice in wonderland feel. The characters were great and it was a quick easy read. I absolutly loved all the main characters. Dom and Dean were great brothers who share well and Hatter...wish he had a few more scenes as I loved him to. But Alice and the Princess!!! I was so excited all of that happened. And the ending. OMG!!! The best!!

‘Pursuit of Madness’ is an action-packed why choose romance that is an interesting spin on ‘Alice in ‘Wonderland.’ Bear with me here – it sounds a bit different, but it all works!

Alice is a bad@ss, a fighter – she's had to be in order to survive… She works to save others in an unconventional way… but then she gets a chance to go back to the place she was was forced to leave - Wonderland. Not long after she gets there, she meets 3 men, Dom, Dean, and Hatter… 3 flawed beings who each are drawn to her in different ways and capture her. Wow, is it deliciously dark and yummy. I really enjoyed the spiciness and wow is this book carnal to the point my Kindle almost melted in my hands. The pain in these characters, the cracks in their souls - it's beautiful to watch them begin to mend together. The suspense in every part of this story was exquisite. This is Book 1 of ‘A Twisted Princess Collection.’ I can hardly wait to find out what happens next!!

Alice endures some extreme träuma in childhood. But, that makes her who she is. She exacts justice on those who get away with unspeakable crimes. When Alice stumbles into Wonderland, she meets Dean, Dom, and Hatter, and learns the horrors that are happening there as well.

I knew from the first paragraph that I was hooked on this book.
I loved the multi POV. Every character had an interesting side of the story to tell and I was excited to read from each characters perspective.
I also loved ALL the fairytale references scattered throughout the book.
I really enjoyed this original and dark re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland.

Some themes you'll find in this book:
Poly Why Chöose
Magic Mafiä
Serial Unaliver
Morally Grey FMC
Found Family

This Alice in Wonderland why choose dark romance was executed perfectly. I can’t even choose which brother I love the most! Dom and Hatter are definitely tied for first. I love Alice being a vigilante serial killer, with all her past trauma it works wonderfully. Rose fell a little flat for me, I feel like her character could’ve had more growth and development. That would really be my only complaint about this book.
I really enjoyed the little details of Pan, his lost boys, and Neverland. It was such a small introduction but it made me wonder where else this series will go. The spice was so delicious and burning hot. That epilogue, just god damn!! If you love the why choose troupe with lots of darkness this is the perfect book for you!

Looking for a new twist on Alice in Wonderland? Well, then A Pursuit of Madness is the book for you. This book brings together a familiar fairytale and deep dips it in fantasy and a whole lot of darkness.
A Pursuit of Madness gives readers multiple POV throughout this book. The story focuses heavily on Alice, and the three men that she’s later going to cross paths with. One thing is for sure and that is that the author makes sure that Alice stands out as a character. She’s engaging, interesting, you get to see just how dark of a character she is. Of course, there is a method to her madness.
While the story focuses heavily on Alice and the guys it misses out on the opportunity to allow Rose, the princess of the story, to truly stand out and shine. We get a few chapters with Rose, but it’s not enough.
Alice is a deliciously dark character and that is showcased throughout this book. Alice is not one to let anyone dictate anything to her. She’s a feisty character with a deliciously dark side. She draws you in with her seemingly sweetness and false innocence only to show you just how dangerous she truly is. Alice as a dark past that has shaped her into who she is now.
This story, for a time, is split between the world that we know, and the world that is Wonderland. Alice has crossed over into Wonderland before, but...something happens that drives her from there. So, now she’s looking for her chance at revenge. Sounds pretty interesting, right?
This book is packed with twists, surprises, and more than a few steamy scenes that will have you begging for some of what they’re having. LOL! A Pursuit of Madness can be read as a standalone with a complete storyline and a HEA that takes place a number of months after the “primary” storyline ends.
Would we have liked more drama to unfold in the final chapters? Yes. Is this book an overall good read? Yes.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Thank you to the author and Bound By Mischief for sharing a copy of this book with me!!

“Hello, little rabbit."

“She's like an angel who traded in her halo for horns. There's something wild and untamable about her, a walking hurricane that can bring both destruction and beauty.”

An unexpectedly good twisted version of Alice in wonderland with a polyamory twist. I think I liked it more than I thought I would have !!! Alice was originally banished from Wonderland and now she is a little unaliver for all those men thinking they can take what they want from anyone (especially women) but she wants back to seek revenge on the Queen, responsible for her pain and suffering. Then we have Rose, trying to free herself from the Queen’s chains but she is oh so sweet and kinda innocent but she knows what she wants. And then we have my favs : the Black Spade’s men, Dom, Dean and Hatter !!!! I love them !!! All of them unhinged, obsessed, kinda twisted and morally grey but they love Alice with a passion and I loved every spicy and steamy but somehow romantic scene between them!! And I have to admit the action and the violence happening in this book intrigued me and engaged me a lot more than I was expecting!! And they all deserved an HEA , even though it is an unconventional one!!!

“She's our poison. Our plague. And she's just as broken as we are.”

“What trauma can do to a person, and I guess mine has given me two really fucked up sides—the submissive one and the depraved one and he seems to bring out both.”

“You're mine, trouble. And I never stop fighting for what belongs to me.”

I struggled to rate this one, it was so close to a 5⭐️ for me, so I’m going to give it 4.5.

Spoilers ahead:

I LOVED this Alice retelling, the main reason for removing 0.5 stars is that I craved more character development and world building. I also wanted more time to build the relationships between the characters. They all claim that they complete each other and trust each other but Alice’s relationships with everyone go very quickly from “I don’t know you” to “I can’t live without you”….with “oh wait I’m also going to try and escape from you” mixed in. I also didn’t love that Alice and Rose didn’t immediately recognize one another. The relationships between the characters were clearly complex and robust, but we missed out on seeing all of that.

I would have loved to see this book either extended by at least a third, or split into two books of this length. Give me more of Rose at the castle so we understand her plight, more of Alice getting to know the trio so we understand why they love her so much, more Hatter so we can understand his special love for her, more of rose and Alice in the cave getting to know each other, more of the guys learning to trust Rose, and much much more of the final flamingo/castle/rebellion.

That being said, the story was compelling, the characters were likeable, the spice was very spicy, and the tropes were abundant. I LOVED everything about this book, I just wanted MORE. I will definitely be checking out the next book in the series!

I always feel like I need to make a disclaimer about Alice in Wonderland being my favorite of all time. Because honestly, I think my review is pretty biased 😂 I haven’t found an Alice in Wonderland retelling that I wasn’t absolutely obsessed with.

AND Y’ALL, let me freakin tell you, this book is going to live rent free in my head for a very long time. SO FREAKIN GOOD. I could just fall into this book and live a totally happy life.

While the spice was definitely spicin, the plot was so binge worthy. I couldn’t put this book down. AND, don’t even get me started on the characters 🥵🥵 I’ve always been a Hatter girl and damn, this book did not disappoint on his character 🔥🔥🔥

I am SO excited about book 2. I hope Amber Bunch does a lot more than just the two retellings because I NEED MORE from her 😍

𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬:
"You're per-fect, little rabbit. Every little thing about you drives me insane.”

"That's right. Run, little rabbit." I hear Doms's voice call out, and his husky laugh follows. "Because when we catch you, we're going to devour every stunning little inch of you. And once we're finished, you'll be left weeping for our cocks."

"Do you like being chained up? Does it make your pussy wet knowing you belong to me? To know that you're our little slur to do with as we please?"

𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲:
• Alice in Wonderland
• RH
• Dark Romance
• “Who did this to you”
• Feisty FMC

⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

“Watching people bleed is probably one of my favorite things to do to pass the time.”
“Hello, little rabbit.”

A Pursuit of Madness is a dark and twisted retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Please read the trigger warnings before reading the book.

I liked the concept of the book, and I believe it had a lot of potential. However, I found myself a bit confused during the first few chapters due to the multiple POV. Thankfully, after those initial chapters, things became easier to understand.

I liked this dark and unhinged version of Alice and I think that she was a really interesting character with a dark and difficult background. At the beginning of the book she reminded me a bit of Sloane from Butcher and Blackbird.

While I liked the why choose element, I wasn't a fan of how Rose was introduced into the mix. Since she only knew Alice and not the other characters. I would have preferred to see more relationship development before she was thrown into the mix.

Plot-wise, the ending of the book showed promise but unfortunately felt rushed. I would have preferred the pacing to remain consistent throughout the book, rather than being slower at the beginning and a bit too fast towards the end.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

UPDATE:
I finished the book! The spice was…SPICEYYY!🌶️🌶️🌶️
The slow burn to spice, the Alice In Wonderland retelling 👏🏼 👏🏼👏🏼 then Ch. 43 to the end…holy crap! 🥵
AND I just knew they were all going to intertwine somehow!!! 😅 I do wish there had been more relationship building with Rose and the others and more of a face off at the end. I felt it was a tiny bit rushed, but still doesn’t take away from the story itself.
I’m literally about to start Taste of Revenge as soon as I done posting!

I'm 50% through and I'm loving it! It's getting to all the good stuff! 🌶️
I just know the build up will be so worth it! I'm definitely looking forward to the main story unfolding and seeing all POVs come to a head because I just know they're all going to intertwine (I'm just guessing) but l'm a smut girly who loves the spice! Give me a good RH/why choose and I'm HOOKED! 🎣

"She's the embodiment of contradictions-the storm and the sun, her soul a swirling mix of light and dark, calm and chaos all wrapped up into one perfectly imperfect girl." - Dom

“Where I may be his calm, he is my chaos and together, we are a storm of passion and desire, an unrelenting force that cannot be tamed.” - Alice

“Ready to be ruined, Little Rabbit?”
“Destroy me.” - Dom & Alice

Opening with Alice, unaliving a man in her abandoned mental hospital. She is absolutely unhinged, and I loved every second of it. She has been searching for a way back into Wonderland to seek revenge on the Queen. She finally gets there only to be held captive by a group of rebels, the Black Spade Brothers. Dean and Dom, the twin wolf shifters, are animals with all their fun banter and witty comebacks. Hatter, my favorite, is more the dark, brooding type and runs an underground magic mafia. She also meets Rose, who is another of the queens victims, while trying to escape her captors.
This was my first Alice in Wonderland re-telling, and it exceeded my expectations. The plot revealed so many twists and truths that it kept my jaw on the floor in shock. We see some classic characters like the Jabberwocky and daffodil lady. The spice was top notch, Hatter was 🥵 Even the ladies had filthy mouths, and it was delightful hearing what they liked and wanted. Loved the incorporation of other stories like Peter Pan, too!

My red flag (and maybe green depending on who you ask) is that I will read any Alice in Wonderland retelling, especially ones that are also reverse harems (a personal favorite). So yes, I’ve read some really good ones, but also some really really bad ones. This falls somewhere in the middle. The story and characters had a lot of potential, however I felt like the lead up out weighed the actual core of the story itself. I didn’t get enough wonderland. I didn’t get to see enough of what the world itself was like under the Queen’s rule. The characters had solid back stories, but we didn’t get enough depth in their present selves (while the story was going on). The same could be said for the romantic relationship between the characters. Everything just felt very surface and breezed over. I couldn’t get invested. Honestly I would’ve DNFed except I just wanted to get to the inevitable group scene. All in all, it wasn’t bad but definitely not one of my favorite retellings.

When someone has been castrated and impaled with his own genitals before your even 40 minutes into the book, you know your in for a wild ride and what a wild ride this book was. I love Alice in Wonderland so this retelling went down an absolute storm. I love the humour Amber manages to bring to Alice's character even in the moments where you originally think she's not remotely sane.

The character depth, development and world building throughout this story were utterly fantastic and I really enjoyed the fact that there were nods to other stories such as Peter pan and The Princess and the frog. This book comes with an extensive list of trigger warnings, sp if your like me and view that as a buffet menu, dive right in, if not, please consult them before reading.

This story is a why choose but I really loved the fact that whilst the spice was great it didn't overtake the main running plot.

Overall, an utterly brilliant read and I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

"His eyes grow heavy, slowly sinking shut and I place a kiss on his cheek. 'See you soon.'"

First things first. CHECK YOUR TRIGGER WARNINGS. This did not affect me but certain parts of this book could be quite heavy to some.

Amber Bunch does a great job building the characters from the get go. I loved how she included so many different ones, some I didnt expect to see at all!

Possibly one of my favorite parts is the worldly cross-over between Wonderland & Neverland. I didn't expect that either and was pleasantly surprised! I loved how earth was referred to as "the topside". So clever!

The storyline itself was VERY involved. There were a number of characters, and you have to really keep track of their stories as the book continued, until they all intertwined. Told from multiple POVs, this was fairly easy and didn't take away from the overall feel of the book for me.

The smut is SMUTTIN' with this one. It was a bit too sporadic for me but I enjoyed it overall!

If you enjoy reverse harems mixed with dark disney, you will love this book!

I cant wait to dive into the next one!

A few days ago I stumbled across this fanart that blew my mind and basically had to drop everything to read this book!!

This is an Alice in Wonderland retelling with a dark twist. I absolutely loved the romantic relationships that were built in this book and how close this book is to the Tim Burton version of the story which was just so cool!

I must however say that this isn’t for the faint hearted and it’s quite literally a dark romance 😍 but THE SPICE 🥵🌶️ joh it’s been a while since I read something this naughty 😍 definitely 5 chilies for this one 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️😍🥵 whewie! 🙈

I can’t wait to read more of her work!😍

I would truly recommend this to anyone who loves dark romance and fairytale retellings 🖤🎩

At first, I gotta admit, I was a bit lost with all the different points of view flying around. But hey, it kept things interesting, like trying to solve a mystery. And guess what? It all clicks together by the end, making you feel like you've cracked the code. What's cool is it's not your typical story – it goes way beyond Alice in Wonderland, throwing in all these other magical realms and characters that had me totally hooked. And oh boy, let's talk about that spice – it's sprinkled throughout, but man, does it kick into high gear toward the end! Had me flipping pages like crazy, wondering what twist was coming next.Definitely one I'd dive into again, and I'm already itching for book two. Trust me, this one's a wild ride you won't wanna miss!

3.25 stars. This was all over the place. There were so many storylines and I had no idea what was happening until the last 30% of the book. The plot gets so lost towards the end that it just ends up being spicy scenes strung together.

While first portion of the book was great and Alice was delightfully unhinged, she loses all of her personality once she gets to Wonderland. She just argues with everyone and acts like a child and, for some reason, the MMCs are into it. The MMCs have no personality outside of how they flirt with Alice and how they choose to brood.

This story has great potential, but it needed fewer subplots.

I loved this whole new take on Alice in wonderland, a dark and twisted retelling.

You really can’t have wonderland without the hatter.

This book has it all Plot twists, action, adventure, Wolf shifters, magic, darkness, why choose, enemies to lovers, depravity, spice, MFMM, FF, touch her and d!e, Murder, blood, gore and much more more.

The ending felt very rushed. I wish there was more of a battle with details and more about the world around them under the queens ruling. But it was still a great book.

Just when you think you have it figured out she throws another twist with another obstical for our characters to overcome! Absolutely worth every second of this amazing otherworldly experience!

This was a GREAT read, I love the story line of a retelling of Alice and Wonderland. Alice is just a girl trying to find herself after losing everything she knew as a child. I cant believe the spice in this book it was amazing and I wanted to read this book in the matter of hours. But with being an adult other responsibilities had to be put first.
If you are on the fence of reading this I would defiantly read this if you like gore, spice, and action.
